    After losing 200 pounds with VGS, my A1C is now 5.4. Haven't used any injections or pills in over a year. Your work saves lives.

    Hi John. I must thank you. By watching your videos, starting 2 years ago, I decided to have my gastric bypass. I have lost 170 lbs so far and I have been taken off my blood pressure and diabetes medications as well. Thanks again for your information. Lon

    Doctor where have you been? I've followed you since my surgery and I love your information ❤️
    I'm just over a year out and 80 pounds down! I'm able to eat more and am scared I my start to go backwards.😢
    Can you please make a video on what foods we should be eating now. Kind of like a typical day of what are food intake and water should be. I have always been horrible getting water down even before my surgery. And I'm still awful to no fault, but my own. I sure hope you can make more videos because I definitely love them!❤

      You are so kind! And yes, I had a bit of a break for the summer related to some travel.
      To be honest, I don't have one easy solution that will make you successful with hydration. Seems like buying a fancy water bottle is one of the most useful interventions.
      For your other question about maintaining long-term success, I will link you to the small package of RUclips videos that I send to my patients at your stage. My A1c is 6.4. Had gastric bypass almost 6 months ago and am no longer on the insulin pump. However, I inject 12-14 units of Tresiba daily to keep my blood sugars under control. (Insulin resistant 31 years)

    wondering if you can comment on D2 with Bariatric surgery + using a GL1-2/P drug to help accelerate the weight loss. And if you can comment on performing bariatric AND a TIF or Nissen at the same time (Which do you prefer) for Hatial Hernia options.

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your question. In fact, I'm working on a couple of videos about the beneficial uses of GLP-1's before/after surgery. Stand by for a few weeks on that.
      About the combination of bariatric surgery with anti-reflux procedures, my experience is that the gastric bypass is the king of reflux operations. While it's not practical to combine that with either a Nissen or a TIF, the reflux benefits should be better than either of those. It is fairly straightforward to repair the hiatal hernia at the time of gastric bypass.

    I've begun exploring my options with a bariatric surgeon (41F with 40BMI). I experienced gestational diabetes in both of my pregnancies and I know that greatly increases my chances of developing the disease, but I have not yet personally been diagnosed with diabetes (at least not yet). Would you ever recommend the RNY over the VGS to potentially *prevent* developing diabetes? Or would the effects of weight loss in either RNY or VGS be about equal in their potential to prevent diabetes?

    • @sallygene

      Also, thank you so very much for all of your videos. They've been an invaluable source of information!

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  8 месяцев назад

      @sallygene you're asking a pretty intelligent question about preventing diabetes before it even sets in. There might be a slight statistical difference in favor of gastric bypass, but on a practical level I think these are both great options that are essentially equivalent.

      @@1017JS you may opt for staying for 1 even 2 weeks longer in mexico after the surgery and if there are any complictions ( which are very rare in experienced hands and well equiped hospitals) they can take care and do the neccesary corrections or treatments needed to you in those 1-2 weeks. The serious complications like bleeding or leakage are very very rare after 1st week .
      I’m sure it will still be a lot cheaper like this than doing it in the USA.
      Turkey is also a cheap but very professional place in bariatric surgery…

    Is this surgery for type 1 diabetes?

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  28 дней назад

      Bariatric surgery can definitely help stabilize type 1 diabetes. To be clear, type 1 means the pancreas is not making sufficient insulin, and a person with type 1 who is also overweight suffers from the addition problem of insulin resistance so the (insufficient) insulin made by the pancreas is less effective than it could be.
      Type 1 diabetics who have bariatric surgery:
      -need to be more closely monitored around the time of surgery
      -will usually achieve better glucose stability and lower long term complications
      -almost always still need some supplemental insulin
