Great video thanks! Very interesting and delivered in a calm professional way. Focus seemed to be on the background sometimes when it would have been helpful to see more close detail. But in a way, it was perfect!

I ordered a Montry Surprise. It has been in the ground since it arrived as soon as it came available. I am in Sacramento Valley of California. I am looking forward to seeing it grow.

Years in quarantine till a virus in the wood is eliminated? How does that work?

Great video. Do you leave the newly grafted apple trees in the green house for a couple mounts to help the graft union heal? Thanks from Woodinville WA

Thanks! They will leaf out faster in a greenhouse, but it is not required for apples. Some trees like mulberries, walnuts, and chestnuts need a higher temperature (around 70 degrees) for the graft to take. We graft these in May or June in the greenhouse, or even July outdoors.

Curious if you root the cut off piece of rootstock? Does the success rate of a whip or whip and tongue differ? Thank you for this excellent video.

What soil mixture do you use in the pots?

  • @ericrosales9722

For plums, is it quite common for the rootstock to be crooked 45% to one side instead of being vertical? I recently bought a 3/4" caliper potted plum and just noticed the rootstock was crooked when I dug the soil to see "what's below". This won't make the structure weak, will it?

Thank you Michael for this very good video. May I ask you for a little help? on my young, 2 year old cherry tree the nylon thread embedded itself deep into the bark. I made 4 vertical cuts in the bark, 90 degrees apart and1 inch tall where the nylon sank into the bark. I sprayed the wound with graft spray, but I noticed that bellow the ring a single branch flowered, while above the ring the green is taking off, but no flowers. Do you think I should bridge graft also, or should I cut the above the ring part off?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello sir thanks for a great video. I would like to try to grow my own rootstock, can I take a seed from my Fuji apple tree and grow a root stock and then graft a scion from that same tree onto it with success?

The seed will not produce true to type, but yes, you could do that.
