Great book. Got some osage oranges from twisted tree several years ago and they are doing great.
I bet. His trees generally grow incredibly well for folks.
I grafted a lot of bare root fruit trees with grafting tape , after pulling the tape tight I rip the last remaining half inch piece with my thumb and use that to seal of the top end , it stretches enough for a few turns.

If you make the tongue cut in the rootstock at about mid point and the cut in the scion at about 2/3 they seem to fit nicer for me without getting the ends stand out.
Good video on whip and tongue - the camera close up on the cuts were good enough to see everything! He's right about trying to root fruit tree cuttings .. I've played around with them a bit when I have leftovers from pruning, and they really don't do very well; better to get a root system established first, then graft! Beeswax .. hmm. I think I feel better about that than the pruning paint that I have been using to seal cuts. I'll give that a try!
I've tried rooting apple and boy is it not something that wants to root!

My grafts look pretty rough but they generally still work out. Nice to have something to work towards but knowing you won't have a ton of failure on your way!
This year I am going to try something I haven’t before. Instead of cutting scions in winter, I am going to take them right before dormancy break. This is also when I prefer to prune. Idea being wound stays open for shorter duration.
Anyways..Instead if cutting scions early and having to store, I’m thinking of taking them a few days before grafting.
I hope that works well for you, seems reasonable.

The timing of this video is perfect for me- I’m planning to graft some edible fruiting varieties onto an ornamental plum this spring.
Question: would you recommend any variations to this technique when grafting cuttings on to a fully mature tree?

I can offer up that you may want to search 'top working' as a grafting concept. It wouldn't use whip and tongue, but rather 'cleft grafting'. I've done it a bit and can say with novice skills it works pretty well. I plan to document it this spring, but you can watch a few videos and give it a go I bet!

I noticed the name of the author was Akiva which for me is not a common name, so it's easy to remember. I was wondering if the author is the same guy as your friend Akiva. And yes, he is! Question: can u whip and tongue, stock and Scion with fresh stock cuttings? Meaning the stock doesn’t have roots yet?
I think you'd want good quality, nice gauge, rooted root stock to graft onto...
Can apples be successfuly grafted in the fall?
Once you finish your bench grafting and you store the trees, should the sand or sawdust be wetted and kept moist until spring?
You want it moist enough to be keeping things alive, yes. Like a wrung out sponge.
Lovely to see Akiva on your channel. I found your channel true his :) Question: Why does he cut the scions so short after grafting? Wouldnt it work just to leave the scions in full length to get a larger tree fast? Or does it need to be cut to focus energy to heal the grafting? Btw I would also love to see a Q and A with you and Akiva :) My 2 favorite garden/growing channels.
You definitely want to cut them short so they focus all their energy into just one or two buds.
A Q&A with Akiva would be a lot of fun, I'll mention it to him.

Takes scion wood later winter, stored very cool and moist, in sawdust in a root cellar.

You want the scion part to be quite small on the root stock so it can focus its growth on one bud or at most 2
