That's amazing!!! Gives me hope for my project, mines a lot smaller (trying to create enough space for a 21ft Winnebago and all of my tools lol), but I had budgeted 30k. (I'm in Indiana). Thanks so much for the tips, I'm absolutely going to follow your advice!
Nice shop. I'm not far from you and was fortunate to find someone selling 2.75" thick foam board that came off a roof at Marathon. Got enough to do a 30x48 pole barn for a few hundred dollars.
Hats off to you for your ingenuity and drive. Congratulations for all you've accomplished on a very modest budget...I enjoy your channel and homestead videos...all the best to you and your family...Happy Holidays.
Having had a couple of buildings built in the same timeframe as you, Lucas, I can say you got a DEAL!! Awesome how you and your son put in the effort to be able to have the shop of your dreams. Now clean up that floor!!! 🤣😂🤣
Automotive lifts are required to be able to safely operate picking up 25% more than they are actually rated. So to get an 11,000 lb capacity rating requires actual lifting capacity of 13,750 lbs. (7,000 lb rated: will lift 8,750 lbs; 9,000 rated: will lift 11,250 lbs) I have installed hundreds of lifts of all types. Rotary, Challenger, Gilbarco, Ben Pearson, etc. 4 inches of reinforced concrete, ¾" anchor bolts, holes drilled all the way through, never had an issue.
Fantastic.. Over the years this will certainly pay for itself and probably 10x more "comfortable" than my 2 car garage with the HOA hovering over me. I have to limit my projects to things that can be finished in one or two days time. Looks like you could do a full, custom build from the frame up and work as late as you want into the night. I've been 100x worse off than what you're doing right there because the work absolutely had to get done. I really hope you're enjoying and do some great projects there.
just built a metal building 40x60 which we hired out...in our late 60's ...not as much we do ourselves in these trades anymore Cost 5 times your cost with posh epoxy floor and lift pads but no lift yet. Insulated with vinyl bags full of pink insulation. We also installed 11 6x3 windows to enjoy the light and the views of the farm. 2 larger 10 x 12 doors with power operators and remote controls. Finally 3 large LED lamps make the place like daylight even at night. Bigger budget so more toys.
Thank you for your great videos. That garage wouldn't be allowed in Massachusetts, unfortunately. To build something that size would cost me over 150,000. Enjoy your great garage.
Did you put the post in the ground or did you put a galvanized metal bracket on top of the concrete and then bolt in your post? There is a big difference between a pole barn and a post frame constructed building. One last for about 40 years and the other last generations.
I at 20k for just the structure, no concrete or anything for a structure that's about the same size here in CA. It does have to withstand 100mph winds and the occasional earthquake but it comes with professional installation. The concrete was poured a couple of weeks ago still waiting on install.
i think that was pretty awesome. having that big of a shop completely set up for $22500. i would probably tackle the build now but i would definitely need help with the electrical and the concrete. nice shop
A bit surprised you were nervous of a lift but went with that Triumph after all that concrete work. I went with Bendpak in the end but looked at those Triumphs for months.
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead that’s great to hear! When I was looking at them in in 2019 they could be had for $1800! I really wanted to do it but I got the BendPak Grandprix for $2300. The price is ridiculous now.
I'm on my third replacement of Barrina lights over ~3 years. I will say that Barrina has sent replacements under warranty, but at this point I pretty much always have a few burned out. My plan is to replace them with just LED strip lights hooked up to some power supplies in the future.
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead I had hoped that the first batch I got was just a bad batch, but when the replacements started failing I lost hope. I currently have 4 out of 12 burned out, I purchased them in Feb 2020, so 3 years, I think all of them have failed at least once. But, barrina did stand behind them and send replacements.
They may have some bad and some good models. I've had one set for about 3 years that are now in my girlfriend's metal foundry shop and all 12 work fine. I have another 15 in my shop that are about a year old and also fine. All of them have been infrequently exposed to high humidity and temps between 20 and 150 degrees F. Haven't had a single one fail. All two bulb units with 120v plugs and wrap around housings.
Do you have a video on your annual income and how you finance the land you live in? I'm interested in how I should go about acquiring land with my 60k annual salary.
Yeah we are on the other end of the state. Near Ashland. I believe the lumber comes out of Indiana though. You might search for a Metal Supplier that uses Graber Post Company. That is where ours came from.
You're getting really good deals. 150 bucks for hard creek rock? I just signed an order today for limestone screenings for 225 (with tax) delivered for 14 ton. But creek rock around here would be round stone. Not good for under concrete I would think because it can't really be compacted. It just likes to roll. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You may be right depending on the mix, but this stuff has a mix size that really made it pack well. Then we went over that with limestone crusher run and it made a great base. I’ve been using the creek rock for driveway base under limestone and it works really well!
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead I'd like some of that rock over limestone. Here, the limestone when dry acts like concrete but when wet is just a sticky mess. I'm going to spread some limestone this afternoon and wet it down and try to pack it.
Never did a epoxy floor... we always sweep with a broom ... it makes a nice a non slip floor, not a "finish" you see allot but my dad did it and it worked for 40 years for him so I did it... it makes clean up a mother but its what i know lol...

That seems like a pretty good price really. I’m like you, I don’t think I could build any higher than 12’. You’ll have a great building when that is complete!
I wouldn't want spray on insulation. If you want to make changes later add windows do electrical work fix the building it's just a nightmare. Regular insulation you just pull it down and reuse it.

Well this isn't Sweden it's the US and Kentucky. Treated beems last way longer than 10 years. I have some in the ground ground for 20 years and they are still solid. Plus we have tornados that can rip up concrete and asphalt off a highway so the building would be gone anyway wouldn't it.
Don’t do your own concrete!!! My footers in my garage are over 4/5 feet deep! High and low spots always occur. Cost in CA are ridiculous no apples to apples plus metal has no insulation factor better to stick build!
Oh I would absolutely do my own concrete again! The imperfections are minor compared to the savings of $6-8k. Now that the floor is in use we don’t notice a thing. Also, you can insulate a post frame building just the same as a stick built building. Everybody has to weigh their own factors though. No worries. 🤷🏼♂️
