FRIED APPLES / CRACKER BARREL KNOCK-OFF RECIPE
I’ve researched this until I was satisfied with the recipe. Then I made it but I was not totally happy.
I added a few ingredients that made my recipe just like the fried apples I get from Cracker Barrel.
Below you will find what I consider the exact recipe.
    INGREDIENTS
7 small to medium OR 5 Large Golden Delicious apples. It’s not that critical.
    3 cups apple juice
1/2 cup apple juice for making the sauce
    4 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 and 1/2 Tsp. apple pie spice
6 Tbsp. white sugar (brown sugar is ok)
    2 Tbsp. salted butter
    INSTRUCTIONS
    Wash and core the apples.
Cut the apples into 3/4” slices. Cutting them too thin will cause them to break up easily.
Put all the cut up apples in a 12” skillet with high sides and add 2 cups of apple juice and bring to a low boil.
Cover and simmer until the apples get soft. Verify softness by inserting a fork into the side of the apples.
Remove the apples from the skillet leaving the juice. Put the apples in a serving container.
In a mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup apple juice, sugar, spices, cornstarch and whisk until combined.
Add this mixture to the remaining apple juice in the skillet. Heat and whisk until the sauce thickens.
I use a medium to high heat at first, then low to medium while whisking.
Now add the butter and whisk until melted.
Last, pour this over the apples and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.
If you want to preserve the apples, this recipe makes two quarts.

Pretty close to my recipe and you have got it down. I use water rather than apple juice, you really don't need the apple juice for flavor, save yourself some money. I use a fresh lemon for the lemon juice and also use that amazing lemon zest. Once the apples are ready just leave them in the pan and add your sugar, extra butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and corn starch slurry. This truly is one of the most delicious toppings/fillings. Just amazing.

All you need are some apple cut up a little bit of butter brown sugar and cinnamon.

That recipe looks fabulous. Normally I would just saute some apples for my pancakes. BUT I'm gonna try this.

Can this be made with a sugar substitute for those who cannot have sugar, and if it can be done how much would you use?

    • @TheSandersKitchen
      @TheSandersKitchen  Год назад +1

I’m not sure which sugar substitute you would want to use. I would try Monk fruit or Stevia. Something natural. The equivalent to sugar is close but you may need to try a couple of apples to see for yourself. But I really want to say thank you so much for your support. Wishing you a very happy Holiday Season.
