Hey all, glad to see so many people have liked this video. Regarding the leftover bacon.. yes believe it or not, I had some leftover bacon in my fridge..it’s rare, but it does happen hahaha. To that point though- the bacon was cooked so use cooked bacon/ not raw.
Here's a little tip that REALLY improves the apple fritters! Sauté the diced apples in butter with a little added sugar and cinnamon, what this does is pre-cooks the hardness of the Granny Smiths and softens them up nicely. Also, add a small splash of Pure Vanilla Extract into the dough and enjoy! You can thank me later...lol...from BC.
Thank you for adding this ….I’ve looked at a few recipes for Apple fritters, and your suggestion was the first I have seen to “pre-treat” the apples….that addresses one of my concerns (I’d prefer the apples softer, as well). Do you peel the apples first? I love fresh apples, but in deserts (i.e. pies, tarts, etc) I want them cooked to a softer consistency….I only want ‘crunch’ when eating a fresh apple! Thanks again for the suggestion, amigo!
Thanks for sharinG thiS awesome tip as yesterday I tried the receipe as he suggested and my apples remained uncooked in lots of areas so...I am going to redo thiS experiment with presauted apples!!!👍My apples were double the size of his so I am going cut some of the pieces that I don't cook into smaller pieces to see if they will cook all the way through!!!✌🌹🌞🌹☕☕☕
Oh yes this does work, an as soon as they are done drain well / or pat dry I sprinkle brown sugar n cinnamon mixture on my granny Smith apples. Kinda gives them a kick.
Thanks for the video. Just an FYI, you might wanna let subscribers know to fry off a lil longer due to raw dough stretch and snap as you pulled apart 2nd bacon fritter to taste. That fritter was definately raw. Also, if you add honey or clear corn syrup to glaze and either heat or glaze hot fritter, your shine will be amazing. Just thought I'd share.
Thanks Hollie. The one was definitely a bit gooey, but honestly still tasted good. Funnily enough, I under fried that one by accident. I think by like a minute/ minute and a half. All the other ones I fried for 6 minutes (3 per side) and they turned out great. I like the tip about the honey in the glaze. I typically use corn syrup for chocolate glaze but I’m going to try honey next time for simple sugar glazing! So thanks for that
In my family bakery fritters are made with the leftover dough scraps from cutting out the Long Johns and the raised glazed donuts. The scraps are mixed with cinnamon and apple chunks and fried. We'd change it up and put chopped cherries in them or make Hawaiian ones with a little cocanut, pineapple and macadamia nuts.
This video randomly came across my screen, and I clicked on it. I had seven apples that I needed to make some thing with. Your recipe was easy to follow, I had everything on hand, I’m now staring at 10 beautifully browned. Tasty, apple fritters. Thank you.
Love how simply. Thanks for not making us watch all the little details like cutting up all the little pieces of apple. Hope others read this who demonstrate receipts
FYI: When I was in Australia I had apple fritters with ice cream in them. They dip hard frozen ice cream in the apple fritter batter and then deep fry. Unbelievably awesome!
Growing up in the 60’s, my mom found a bakery that made fritters in their store. They always added raisins and apples and other pieces of fruits and sometimes small bits of walnut or pecan. Fritters and fritters surprise.
I made a huge mistake watching this video when I'm at least 3 hours away from making dinner. Then you had to do the bacon apple fritters when I'm a recovering bacon holic. I probably will be in the recovering stage the rest of my life, but I must say, that this is pure genius adding some bacon. You are my kind of people and I can see why your wife gets on your ass to make these.
@@judesmash1596 Hi...yes ready made pancake mix I pour a cup in a bowl. I cut up apples in small squares and add to bowl. I put a lot of cinnamon 😁 But add what ya like. Then just add water a little at a time for the right texture 😁 pot of oil and large spoon a clump into oil and cook each side. The glaze is powdered sugar and a tad of milk mixed real well and drizzle it 😁 You can play with size you make them or how many apple chunks 😁👍💜
When I make icing, I always heat the milk and add a touch of corn starch and butter along with flavorings, stirring in the sugar until the hot milk becomes the consistency I like. Then the icing will drizzle all over while it's warm, but set up hard once it cools. You could probably do it with just a little warm water and enough sugar to thicken and melt, but I think the milk and butter adds nice flavor, and the corn starch helps it stay set at higher temps, so it doesn't get your hands as sticky when you pick one up.
many confectioner sugars already have corn starch added! That helps! But, I actually found the glaze to be rather grainy. Not like I remember my mom making when I was a kid.
A pleasure to listen to you, you don’t go on with a whole lot of irrelevant things that make me turn the channel.. Thank you for this recipe they look mouth watering going to try and introduce them to my friends here in Australia
Hey thanks for the awesome compliment! Glad you liked the video. I’ve been told I’m brief in person so guess that has translated into my videos as well. lol
A good way to enjoy fall apples without all the work of making a pie. And, they're individual, hand held yummies that don't need plates and forks unless you want to serve with ice cream.
I just got this video recommended today (11/03/23), and I am very excited to try the bourbon and bacon apple fritters. I can tell they’re finna be off the chain. New subbie & TFS.
What the hell is "leftover bacon"? Lol! Subscribed! Great recipe, straight to the nitty gritty and no BS with ingredients that most households don't even have. 😋 Thank You!
Nice video with a straight forward recipe. My only suggestion for this is to make the icing before frying. When you glaze while the donut is still hot, the glaze will coat it better and give it a cleaner look. Keep up the good work with the videos!
But if you glaze while fritter is still hot, the glaze will just run off the fritter. Won’t it?? That’s why you have to wait for cakes to cool before icing.
@@karma13612 You want to use a glaze with much thicker consistency... almost like hand cream. The hot fritters will melt the glaze but then harden as it cools. Love it.
These look great. I never cook with veggie oils though, coconut, avocado oils or even pork lard would much more satisfying oils to fry these in. Thanks for sharing!
Not to mention that corn oil, canola, Wesson, etc., are really really bad for you. The ones you mentioned are not, including lard, much to the surprise of most people. With coconut oil, just make sure it’s organic and UNrefined. Really good for you, actually.
Right on! Enjoy making them. One thing I suggest changing based off suggestions and I think it’s a good idea- peel the apples. They’ll still be good if you don’t peel them but I think they’ll be better if you peel the apples
@@IdiotProofCooking Hey, Will. I want to make these fritters for my husband this weekend but all I have is Irish Whiskey. Would that work or should I get some bourbon? Thanks!
Interesting idea! I find that Irish whiskey tends to have a lighter more fruity flavour while Bourbon tends to have a sweeter, warmer, richer flavour. Personally I’d stick with the bourbon, but you could always make a test batch of the glaze with Irish whiskey and see how it tastes.
Hi, just found you here. I do one extra step: I sauté my chopped apples in some butter, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, then let that cool before stirring into the batter. I just like soft apple chunks in my fritters, that's why.
