I grew up in West Virginia and fried apples on top of biscuits, cornbread, or even just white bread with butter was our dessert several times a week. Love them!
My grandma was from Missouri but moved to Oregon and everytime I’d go visit her she’d make these, completely my favorite and every time I’ve tried to make them I have winged it and gotten pie filling so I’m incredibly thankful for this recipe, already sliced up my apples!
I just want to tell you what a delight you are to watch. I love how you explain things and are make things so simple to understand... I wish you and your family nothing but Happiness and Prosperity... God Bless you and yours.
Tried your fried apples tonight and they were a hit. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Been married 52 years and this is the first time I made fried apples :)
My grandma taught me about fried apples. She was from soldier Kentucky and used to make apple stake cake. She said that was their Christmas cake. It was so good.
We had fried apples with vanilla ice cream last night. I hope we have enough left over for fried pies today. I want to thank you for doing videos and your testimony.
I am a private in home caretaker for a 92 yr old woman. She LOVES fried apples....I never knew how to make them until I watched this! I thank you and so does she!
This is very much how my father made them, except: 1. He used honey instead of sugar. 2. About a day before, he'd cut up the apples, add the honey, cinnamon, and ginger [which you don't use], chopped walnuts or pecans (or occasionally almonds), raisens or dried cherries or dried cranberries, and brandy, which he'd put in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and leave in the refrigerator overnight. Then, the next day, he'd cook them about the same way you did. Sometimes he'd mix it with breadcrumbs or wheat germ or cous-cous and stuff it inside a capon and roast it in the oven. After moving the bird to the platter, he'd put the roasting pan on the stovetop and wait until the juices were boiling and smoking, then pour about half a bottle of wine over, and when it got back to a boil would sprinkle cornstarch over while whisking to make gravy. Other times,we'd have it for breakfast with sausages and cheese grits. Basically, my father was a hillbilly who had gotten a college scholarship and gone to the big city and acquired a veneer of sophistication, but didn't forget where he came from.
This is a four-year-old video! But my goodness, what great memories. As kids, we used to go outside and pick the dropped apples in my grandmother’s yard… when my first child was born, I made these all the time, in the microwave, without butter… I hadn’t thought of fried apples in years!
I love your videos and made your friend apples for my breakfast with a stack of pancakes yum, and thank you for your spiritual messages that remind us of the messages of Jesus and his apostles Blessings and kindest Regards from Yorkshire, England
I have a bag of apples that I need to use fast. God must have led me to you. I should have had Faith in Him that he would show me the way. I will fry my apples & have them over waffels! Halleluia Jesus.🙏👍
Thank you for your kindness, Sister in Christ. Fat can be left off, for those who prefer, & I use apple juice concentrate for sweetness. If I have cider or "natural" (unfiltered) apple juice, that works, then you reduce them for more sweetness (reduce by boiling, till it's 1/2 of what you started with. ..doesn't take long. Then add sliced apples, & slowly simmer. We like a few raisins in it, too. At the last I thicken with a little cornstarch (add it to small amt. of cold water first). We use it on pancakes & waffles instead of syrup. Becky, you know you're greatly loved.
I learned about fried apple at that restaurant with the rocking chairs and, as you said, once I made them at home with butter and sugar I never went back! Thanks for explaining the tiny skillet. :)
Because my mom and my grandma taught me to "put by", I'm not having a problem during these virus times. I have enough foods to last a good while. However, I *am* binge watching your "Struggle Food" videos! I love them. Our elders had some wonderful ideas and recipes. So happy they passed them down. REALLY love watching The Hillbilly Kitchen. Please keep the great content coming. Thanks for sharing! Stay safe and be well!! 😍😍😍

I just ordered your cookbook because I have become addicted to your videos. Everything is so well explained and I love your Christian attitude & life. Such a sweet Lady! You would be a cherished neighbor.
Love your videos! Re this one, my beloved great-grandmother was a great country cook originally from Arkansas and her father grew apples. Autumn was not really autumn to me until I smelled the aroma of fried apples wafting from her kitchen. She loved Jonathan apples with their tart flavor which mixed beautifully with plain white castor sugar; she also did NOT peel the apples, therefore creating a particular double-textured, double-flavored (a sweet/tart) dish. The more sugar, almost made them candied apples. Though cinnamon w apples is a classic taste, she also used no cinnamon in these. You tasted just the apples and the butter. Fantastic. Thanks, Becky, for your amazing videos...
I watched this video last month when it first aired. Last Saturday we had our grandchildren here in our home. We decided to make these apples and they were a big hit!! My granddaughter, she's 11, was able to help with the cooking. She loves working in the kitchen with either of her grandmothers. It's special!! They were yummy!! An the amount of four apples was a good amount to feed all 4 of us. Thanks!!
I just tried your fried apple recipe this morning. Oh my, yes they were so visit good. We had them with our fried chicken eggs and peppered bacon and homemade biscuits. My husband loved it. Felt good to send him off to work with a good home cooked breakfast! Those fried apples were awesome. Thank you so much for your helpful videos and the encouraging inspirational time. God bless you abundantly!
Thanks Wanda! My husband has reached a point in his life where he has to have a home cooked breakfast EVERY MORNING, lol. He's a bacon, egg and biscuit guy too. God bless you Wanda!
HILLBILLY KITCHEN VERSES AND VITTLES. This looks sooooo delicious, and I just happen to have some apples getting a little soft! Yum, yum! I think I am going to make this today using up some Granny Smith apples, and add brown sugar instead of white. and maybe also add in some broken up Pecan bits with it in the pan too. Thank you and you have a very blessed day!!!
Still doing what I said before, I added the blackberries a few minutes after, the apples n rhubarb, stirred them in carefully, then switched the heat off and made a simple cake (half fat n sugar to flour). I put the warm fruit mix in the bottom of dish, covered it with the cake and popped it in the oven. One satisfied daughter and a couple of grandkids. God bless 🙂
I love apples. When you’re talking cooked, fried, stewed, or baked apples that really gets my attention. Apples are one food that you can’t go wrong with when cooking.

My Mom made fried apples for us a dessert but she just peeled and cored them, sliced them about 1/4" thick, fried them in butter and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top. This was always a special treat for us and I continued this with my children. She never cut them up as you did, but I think I will give your way a try next time I make them.

Having these for Thanksgiving this year to commemorate the happiest Thanksgiving I ever had growing up. Dirt poor, 4 orphaned kids (dad killed in an auto accident), my mom newly remarried to who would become my much beloved adoptive Dad and us living in another state in what seemed like a foreign land, we had pinto beans (did we have any ham?), fried apples and for dessert hckory nut and maraschino cherry cake. We played Michigan Rummy and in the evening came a knock on the door, a man returning our wayward dachsund, Pip, who had run away 10 days before and was lost to us. I loved Thanksgivings with my late husband, but none come close to this one. Wishing you a glorious Thanksgiving for this difficult year for you.

Oh, yummy. Fried apple pie was a great childhood favorite! We cooked the apples in a medium/small pot to cook the apples, then fried them in a cast iron skillet! Sheer bliss!

During the pandemic, my mom has been coming over every Sunday to watch the church service and then we'll have lunch. She loves fried apples (from the rocking chair restaurant), so I'm going to surprise her with homemade fried apples for dessert this Sunday. Thanks!
These are delicious in fried apple pies too. I had some given to me made from plain sandwich bread made by rolling bread out as thin as possible. You don't even have to remove crust. Add a tablespoon or two of cooked apples to one side of rolled bread slice, fold in half, crimp with fork and fry in butter or oil until brown. I've also had these fried pies with crushed/drained pineapple. Enjoy! Have a blessed day, Becky and family! XOXOX
I made this today, and it waz delicious. I also served the leftover apple cores and peels which still had some apple fruit. My husband ate the peels and the apple from the fruit. Very little wasted and great fiber!
Just subscribed ! Love the simplicity of your recipes and your honest and humble nature. Without all the unnecessary whistles and bells. And of course you seem to be a strong Christian not afraid to share your faith.
Thanks so much for sharing Becky! I like to crank the heat up just before the apples are tender, and finish with some heavy cream. It makes an AMAZING caramel sauce! Paired with vanilla ice cream, it can't be beat!!
I’ve of course heard of baked apples before, but I’ve never seen a recipe like this one or apples cooked quite this way. This recipe does not disappoint! Thank you, Becky, and praise God, we’re going Home!
I love fried apples it's one of my favorite things. We used to have them always at breakfast with biscuits and gravy. And I am guilty of letting apples get too soft and then I put them out back for the raccoons and possums. I think I should take your advice and start using them. This looks so delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe. 😊
for 30 yrs been making these for myself or whoever is here too bc sometimes I want an apple pie but not the hassle of rolling dough. It hits the spot. Born & raised in Calif by a bachelor who could not cook, so I thot of this on my own lol.
Thanks Becky! The apples look so good. I love your cookbook. I received it as a Christmas gift. The verses you added really makes it extra special. "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously and he will give you everything you need" Matthew 6:33

Honey is not meant to be fried. When honey is fried, it becomes sugar and value is lost

I just love watching you... Thank you so much!! God Bless❤
for 30 yrs been making these for myself or whoever is here too bc sometimes I want an apple pie but not the hassle of rolling dough. It hits the spot. Born & raised in Calif by a bachelor who could not cook, so I thot of this on my own lol.
