I don't understand how they can mess up Baylan's height that bad when they were conscious enough of size that they decided to use the Malgus blade for him.

This is the result of rushing the product out to have something on shelves as the shows going on. This is the exact reason why it’s better to wait a year on figures than to have them in hand during these shows or movies

Credit collection Marrok in the Mainline. That was great 😂. Big shame on a lot of these recent figures being flawed compared to past figures. We need the EP2 Obi Wan, Clone Wars Obi Wan, Count Dooku level of quality back again.

It’s completely fair to compare other Hasbro lines to each other. Same company, same price range, same isle in the store. Yes GI Joe is a hasbro property but it seems strange to put on blinders to try and justify the Star Wars teams mistakes.

They should have made baylon a deluxe figure like wrecker make him a bit bigger and add a few accessories
I'm sorry but 25 dollars for a figure should already justify an accurate sculpt and proper accessories. Marvel legends releases a brand new miles Morales with an all new sculpt a while back with 6 or 8nhands total, electricity effects, and an alt head for 22 dollars yet black series needs to make releases deluxe just for slightly larger sculpts AND MAYBE alt hands? That's bs I'm sorry. Idk how black series gets away with the lack the accessories and price gouging

@forrestpenrod2294 oh yeah the repaints are stupid when unjustified or not the right sculpt for a chatacter. But at least accessories like alt hands are almost guaranteed (unless your screwball). Harbor as of late has been immensely disappointing. Thr way they pick and choose which spiderman gets toe joints for example is stupid af. Not so popular comic about adult dad Spidey? Why not. One of the most famous origin stories (Amazing Fantasy) for a superhero and one of the most acclaimed sculpts for spidey? NOPE. The meh last stand suit? Yes.
Awesome review Luke, of course the height issues are a bummer, it is nice to see Baylan is pretty great besides being a little small, Shin looks alright, and I have Marrok in hand and with a few layers of black wash he looks absolutely amazing! Can’t wait for the Fleet Commander and R5 as well!

I think there is some leeway in the deco of the armor, potentially if they were going off early concepts. But they knew how tall the actors were so the incorrect height for Baylan is pretty disappointing.

Definitely customize all of them on video. Those are my favorites. I'm a customizer myself (Harker Customs) and I love those videos. I would absolutely peel a little of the green off with some alcohol, it will take more elbow grease compared to acetone, but acetone loves to snack on and discolor that rubber sometimes. Let me know what you think buddy!
Great video, nice to get a closer look at these guys. I'll probably still get them all as I was a big fan of all three and I especially really like Marrok's design but man its dissapointing the scaling on Baylan and the colors on Marrok. I'm not much of a customizer but if there's an easy way to darken up the colors on Marrok I would give it a try.
Wonder if you can do a upper thigh leg swap with Marrok for Baylan.

Marrok's clothes are actually supposed to have "rust" on them, but you can only really see it in promotional photos like his poster and the Advanced Graphics cardboard cutout. The photos also show that the rust is a much lighter color than it appears to be in the show, where it's barely visible most of the time, however the figure's rust is still too light. As for the color of the armor, it does kinda look like it's a light grey in those same photos, but I'm pretty sure that's just due to it having a shiny finish. On the Advanced Graphics cutout, you can see that his leg armor that's being covered by the cape and not reflecting much light appears to be black, so I think Hasbro just made a mistake there or they were using inaccurate concept art.
I don’t know, I might end up cancelling my Baylan and Shin. They just seem a little disappointing.
Not even an Archive re-release could improve Baylan and Shin. There needs to be brand-new figures for both of them, maybe with fabric skirts and capes for better poseability and, of course, the correct height difference and orange blades.

I will gladly wait X amount of time to get a figure if they end up being more accurate. A lot of the Ahsoka series figures seemed "rushed out" to appease that demographic of people who "need" the figures to release with the show for whatever reason. Bummer on some of these for sure! As bad as that Mando Cape is, I've actually used it a few times on custom figures. I made a Beilert Valance and it works perfect.
Pretty disappointed with Baylans height but the others look pretty good, (also hope you’re having a good day Luke) p.s. didn’t realise this at first but rewatching this video at 7:22 when Luke has all the ahsoka figures out standing next to each other you can see Sabine and shin, and considering I am just rewatching ahsoka Shin isn’t all to much taller that Sabine, maybe even the same height as her so, she’s definitely is over sized
Would love to see your fix for these figures. I like the idea of making Baylon taller and it's a must for him as the rest of the figure looks great. Shin I think just needs some good black/grey washes to really bring out the details and maybe some metal dry brushing on the armor. Marrok I would suggest stripping the rust paint off completely, then either heavy dark wash or black repaint and then reapply rust.

Ive stayed away from so many black series figures due to lacklusture releases. Saving heaps and enjoying my collecting more after stepping back and taking heed from reviews like yours.😮
Cant wait for a video customizing them like the grey wash on Shin hair.
Baylan is 6'3" and we have another character in the line who is exactly that size, Paz Vizsla, so he should be as tall as him. Marrok appears to be the correct size. Shin is definitely too tall.
I also don't understand how bad Marrok's armor turned out, considering that they already did a perfect rusted black look on 4-LOM years ago.
@4:52 the “party city” foil (LOL) is actually screen accurate to the A New Hope appearance of R5 (just for those who mainly know him from Mando). I remember that material was popular in the 70’s as it refracted light into pretty colors and probably appealed to the 70’s druggie scene (and I was a little kid so not referring to me). But yeah, check out the Jawa Droid a sale scene (where the little head tool “bad motivator” scene occurs) and check out R2’s Disco Party trippy neck decals! :-) Weird thought, can you imagine a bunch of stoned Jawas shining lights on R5’s neck and speaking Jawa to exclaim at the pretty colors? LOL! :-)
I would love to see you customize these guys on camera. I've held off on pre-ordering because of the issues described. Would be interested to see if they're fixable. I think Shin being so tall is the biggest problem for me. She towers over Sabine, when in the show they're the same height.

Im wondering if they did these off concept art. They came out really fast this time.
Especially as the box art and Shin's face on the figure look nothing like the show characters. Baylan figure looks good, but too short; Shin is too tall.

Nice review and comparison. Maybe 3D print some soles to peg on to Baylan’s boots? I feel like just a tiny boost would be enough, and posing will take care of the rest when next to other characters
Luke - No excuse for the ridiculous scale screwups, but their colorations and deco are based on concept art/costuming well before the show even started filming and changes made. Action Figures based on big properties generally take 3 years to develop
I’m assuming concept arts played a role considering how quickly they all came out, but the heights are inexcusable. I’d rather wait 5 months for a figure if they are gunna be accurate .
The Marrok figure is a nice looking figure, but is let down with over painting of the rust highlights.
I like the weathered look of the original cape, but the plastic cape does work well.
Baylan is pulling a Sephiroph with that alternate lightsaber blade, it looks so goofy! I'm thinking they probably made him small specifically to save on plastic.
Shin's hair looks like it needed some paint. It just looks really flat and cheap, and that's before getting into the likeness.
Side tangent, but I think the "licensing cost" argument barely works tbh. Because the benefit to paying for the license *at all* is that Hasbro will sell more figures thanks to the built-in fanbase. It's the cost of doing business, and while Hasbro exists to make money, that's not the consumer's problem. At the end of the day, they should make a quality product, which consumers should buy because they like them.
But when a higher percentage of your sale goes towards the licensor then it cuts your profit margin, thereby cutting your budget
That would mean less net profits but there would still *be* profits. There’s only so much that licensing costs can justify something like not painting accessories (which would cost pennies) or not making new shins and instead reusing the same ones despite them being inaccurate. This doesn’t all apply to Star Wars, but I’ve seen licensing costs used to defend bad practices and subpar products from them for years. I’m not one of those people who criticises Hasbro to try to be cool, but some of their decisions truly are just the result of trying to absolutely maximise their profits and cut costs. E.g., the recent Black Widow has an entirely new mold and the most accessories of any Marvel Legend in the last 5 years or so… and costs the same as any regular figure. Suddenly, the licensing cost isn’t tying their hands after backlash towards them cutting corners and overcharging for the last few years.
Not trying to come off aggressive or anything and sorry if I did, but seeing the licensing cost defence just bugs me sometimes.

I've got all of these figures preorder, but I have no idea how to fix these figures. Oh well I'll figure something out I guess.

I was really worried about the sizing, I thought that the reason they had the orange on the fabric was to show areas where the metal rubbed against the fabric.

Believe it or not the orange on Marroks pants is actually accurate. Idk why, but he has orange dirt on his pants that’s the same color as the rust
One reason the deco might not be accurate is that they might have been designed based on concept art or promotional shots where the deco might have looked different from the final screened version.
Maybe you can do a video with how you will customize these figures
That is definitely a shame, I was hoping for a little more height. Who do you think will make a good parts swap to boost him up a little? I was leaning toward Malak if I can find two. Might actually be the first time I bust out the tools 😂
Are you planning on modifying the legs or torso of Baylan to make him any taller?
Ordered myself 2 Marroks and not for anything having to do with an Ahsoka display in my shelf; both are gonna be customs. I hate the way that Marrok was colored, however, I do like the overall aesthetic and posing capabilities of the figure so for me, he's getting a custom job. Will likely post on IG when the first project I have in mind is done but yeah...honestly outside of the HK droids, the whole wave was a total miss for me.
My plan is definitely to replace baylans legs. His arms feel slightly long already so i domt think it would look weird. The current front runners that ive been able to think of are dooku or maybe the 5th brother
I'd be up for a video of you fixing these guys. I agree that Shin needs some roots, Baylon needs a height boost (I wonder if a custom torso would work?), and Marrok needs a total repaint. I've been looking at some textured spray paint for the one I've got coming.
Great review Luke!. Was looking forward to Ray, but after seeing how small he actually is & how super large his blade is- I kind of am very disappointed. Man!! I also think they should have made Baylan more taller than the actual size… that big lightsaber make him look rare… in the other hand, I’m gonna repaint Marrok making a some kind of metallic silver and applying the kintsugi technic. Where do you get all that figures before amazon launch them?
I’ve been a Ray Stevenson fan since the HBO series “Rome”. I was looking forward to the Baylan figure as a tribute to his untimely passing. This is pretty disappointing. If you come up with a good fix, please share a video of it.
So the big MacGuffin of the first half of the season was the orb with the map and none of the figures came with it as an accessory? It seems like a lost opportunity.

I to have always been curious about the whole process of production. I guess everyone sees things differently? I'm not sure if I'm going to get Shin or Baylon. The sizing really is hard to get over. I will be doing some washes on Marrok after he arrives.
Even though there are definitely disappointments with the execution of all three, they do all have really good sculpts in my opinion. Still can't wait to get each of them in hand tbh 👀 I just love the characters.

RE Marrok. I POed the fig. Once the character was killed and turned into a gas zombie, I cancelled.
Can we assume a future redeco in correct colors? Or does this character have more story from the past? Only Feloni knows...

rust isn't a part of the metal its the metal shaving off
which if he is a reanimated corpse then it makes sense that the decomposition weathered the armor
I think there's already a problem with Baylan as long as he doesn't seem to have the size of a fridge on his own.

I was thinking of swapping Marrok and Baylan’s thighs or even the pelvis and thighs if they pop out easily enough. It looks like the colour and texture is a match on their pants and with Baylan the skirt piece will cover the “rust” paint effect that Hasbro decided to splatter on the pants
They fixed Boussh Leia's height in the past so I'll probably hold off on tiny Baylan. Such a disgrace.

Tbf to the Black Series, the retro collection Marrok appears to be silver so at least this one is more accurate.
I can't wait for the Vintage Collection to release these 3 as I'm sure they'll be better than the Black Series, but I'll pick these up as god knows when the Vintage Collection will receive these characters
I really wanted to like Marrok as he is my favorite Inquisitor design but man did they mess him up. Both him and Shati would benefit heavily from an actual dirt wash.

I was waiting on this review to see if these were as bad as I thought and they are. I had Marrock pre-ordered but I canceled him. I’m passing on all three and I normally don’t do that. Space and rising cost has made me more selective. Thanks for the video.
I've also changed the way I collect. I only buy the best releases and don't fall for the hype or completing waves due to space. But Hasbro has got on my nerves one to many times lately. I'm enjoying collecting more and saving heaps.
I'm more than disappointed that Baylan and Hati's sabers aren't really that orange at all. It's a major defining characteristic and they've just been lazy and given them red blades

Im pretty sure its not that Baylen is undersized, the other two figures are just oversized, and the lightsaber being oversized as well doesnt help.
What im saying is Baylen is the right height, its Shin that should be smaller, closer to sabines height

Great figures despite the issues. Marroks are easily fixed, just some washes and paint. Shin I'm hoping might be able to have her upper legs swapped or something to make her a tiny bit shorter. Disappointing to have these issues but not a disaster.
Wave is a total let down. Credit collection paint job was a sick burn 😂

Well thank you for this, I’m canceling my preorders. I’ve been out of collecting black series for like a year, didn’t really care for Ahsoka all that much, but really liked shin and baylon. This scale is unforgivably bad. Damn

Baylans height is the stopping block for me. And now that I see him "in hand" his face deco isn't really that good. Very sad about this, as he was the most interesting character from that show. I don't have the skills to improve on it myself and I shouldn't have to either. It's a no go from here. But thanks for the review!

I saw a comparison photo on an Instagram story of Shin and Sabine, and the heights are way off there. The actresses are only an inch apart in real life. Maybe a thigh swap for Shin? Shouldn't have to do this much work to fix a figure though.
Does anyone actually get mad if these figures are not out when the show is coming out? Just based on the show, I'd want all 3 of these, but all 3 have been messed up by Hasbro rushing them out (as was Huyang). The worst bit of all is, we might never get another attempt at these. Marrok isn't going to be appear again, so Hasbro are very unlikely to do another figure of him, while they might just let Baylon and Shin's stories go with the passing of Stevenson. What Baylon was attempted seemed too big, like it would overshadow the whole Thrown thing, and the situation Shin ended up in, willingly staying behind to lead some bandits doesn't sound like a story worth telling.
If they do these in VC i hope they dont fk em up so bad

Id recommend seeing if you can swap out baylan’s feet with a figure that has larger boots with thicker shoe soles, maybe from a spare fifth brother inquisitor etc, i think even a 1/2 cm boost from a larger footed figure would do great to improve his height, especially as it seems his boots are already quite small on the base figure! I think thats what ill probably do when i get mine 👌🏻:)
WTF?! They absolutely MUST make an entirely new Baylan figure. This is unacceptable. Hopefully a 3rd party does him justice, id love a Mafex Baylan with the cloak as well.
