    Playing on the Japanese version of SMB Deluxe is even funnier with context that in Japan the game didn't get a physical release but rather was a Nintendo Power flash cartridge exclusive so it only exists as a digital release

    • @TheBlackSeraph
      @TheBlackSeraph 24 дня назад

      How sure are you of that? A lot of games that were initially released on NP kiosks would get physical releases (typically a SFC/GB Memory cassette with the game preloaded and manual/stickers distinguishing it from a regular flash cart).
      While I've seen a few Super Famicom games released this way, the only GB game I could say for certain got that treatment was Wario Land which got both standard and NP-preloaded releases however, a disproportionate number of boxed GB Memory Cassettes I found browsing eBay had Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and F-1 World Grand Prix without anything to distinguish them as pre-loaded. SMBD could be seen as gamers installing a popular brand-name game from a kiosk but the number of F-1 WGP carts seems too frequent to dismiss as coincidence.

    • @Bro3256
      @Bro3256 24 дня назад +1

      @TheBlackSeraph the Japanese game only exists within those cartridges and as far as I can tell, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was never sold bundled with the GB Memory cartridge, the two had to be bought separately. Nintendo advertised the Japanese release of Deluxe as being an exclusive to Nintendo Power and never got around to releasing a retail physical version. These days you'll find secondhand copies of those GB Memory cartridges with the game preloaded but that's due to people writing the game on those cartridges back then.

  • @SomeGuy712x
    @SomeGuy712x 24 дня назад +3

    One other difference that I don't think you mentioned is that the end-of-level staircases only go 7 blocks high in the GBC version, while they go 8 tiles high in the original game (and that's also why the flagpoles are 1 tile closer in the GBC version).
    As for how 8-3 is beatable faster in the original game, perhaps in the GBC version, they lengthened the level slightly somewhere. Hmm...
    ...Okay, I looked up maps of both the original and GBC versions of 8-3 online, and when I carefully compared them, it appears they lengthened the stretch of land where the final four Hammer Bros. are located by a few tiles. So, that's why the GBC version ends up being slower than expected.

    Coming back to this after a few days it does seem like a fair amount of people are upset over being baited, BUT we're still your fans, Kosmic. We don't want to condemn you for an honest mistake, but going forward please take this into consideration, and please take steps to clarify instead of hoping people might notice the very subtle indicators in the thumbnail, which require knowledge of one or both versions to get the hint you were trying to make. And arguing with your fans in the comments never helps. By all means plead your case, but you can't convince someone out of having already been insulted.

    • @Kosmicd12
      @Kosmicd12  20 дней назад

      I wasn't expecting people to know the details in the thumbnail, just pointing out that nothing said it was nes version and all assets were actually Gameboy version/not indicative of nes any%. Explaining my thought process is taking steps to clarify imo, I feel like there wasn't much acknowledgement of the explained position that the title 4:53 in the title has genuine significance regardless of version and isn't meant to bait or trick people. I don't think it was morally wrong, just an unfortunate number of people made an inaccurate assumption about the video and then also inaccurate assumptions about my intent. I'll try to communicate better that I see and consider the other person's perspective. I think the people who are upset by it can also take accountability on their part for wrong assumptions or not knowing certain things and acknowledge/consider my position. Most insist they're right and I obviously just need to change the title and apologize. At this point one main reason for title change is to try and broaden the reach of the video for people who the numbers 4:51 and 4:53 don't mean anything to yet. Hope some of that makes sense! And ultimately I just think situations and people are more nuanced than will ever come out over text, and it's also easy to jump to conclusions while really not knowing much about the other person at all. Have a nice day wherever you are!

    15:27 In Street Fighter 2, the game has a frame skip in order to make the game run at 60fps. Sometimes this can cause a combo to only work on a certain frame or not at all. This can be refered to as a 0.5 frame combo. There are also 1.5 frame combos too
