A pretty fair and knowledgeable review, but a few things: Carrageenan is HIGHLY inflammatory. And gastroparesis is connected to pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, and diabetes, so sugar should be avoided as much as possible. Worse than sugar however is the nasty sugar substitutes (Sucralose, aspartame, etc).

I was recently diagnosed along with a few other things. I was searching for a good meal replacement shakes since liquids are the only thing that doesn't set my symptoms off. Naturade makes a meal replacement powder that I love its called total soy and it doesn't have dairy at all. Tastes good and it doesn't set it off. I can mix fruits and veggies in if I want or just drink the shake. I use almond or soy milk as well.

I have gastroparesis, a Gastrectomy (from when my stomach burst because it could not move the food out) and CIPPO which is a bowel obstruction syndrome. I’ve started juicing every meal and triple straining the juice. I supplement with zero fiber easy to digest foods (in small amounts) like rotisserie chicken I make to control what’s on it, homemade turkey, etc. I appreciated this video very much. What I have found is that the juicing was hard to start, but my doctor insisted, and now on week 4 I’m feeling so much better. I cannot get over how much bloating is gone and how much better I feel. It’s messy and there is lots of cleanup, but getting the vital nutrients straight from the plant is making a big difference in my stamina and energy level. Attitude is everything. If anyone wants to attempt it, I’m happy to share what I’ve done to be successful. I’m past the beginning pitfalls, ha ha. Good luck one and all.

I don' t agree with a lot said here I have a daughter who was diagnosed with gastroparesis at age 18. Supposedly in my part of the country she is the youngest to have it and a very bad case of it. First failed fact is gastroparesis is not cure able. Also, my daughter has the stimulator and it worked for 3 weeks then stopped. The test run with the stimulator worked perfect( it is non surgical to see if the stimulator will help) . Her stimulator nor the drugs helped her. No matter what she eats or drinks within 30 mins it comes back up. There was talk about removing her stomach but I haven't seen or read enough about that. Has anyone had that done?

I am on all liquid diet because solid foods are hell, severe pain and vomiting. I can tolerate liquids a little better, some pain and nausea but tolerable, I have to take it a few sips at a time.

I have IBS and gastritis, and I've been looking for a meal replacement drink that doesn't have gluten or casein (most cow milk sold in the US has a caesomorphin that causes me constipation). Have you managed to find nutritional drinks that are casein free?

I wish that we had Orgain available in my area. I can't find it anywhere and I'm afraid to buy a case of 12 and not be able to tolerate it. I can't do whey protein powder, so i'm afraid this might not do well with me and I'd like to try just one bottle, not a whole 12 of them. It's pretty expensive ordering online as well. Thank you though for creating these FAQ's. They've been so very helpful!

Love the shirt! Where'd you get it?!
I've had gp for a few years, for the NJ tube before the surgery, got the GJ after and i still have it (mic-key button) over a year...
I have the stimulator set at a 4 (the highest allowed by my gastro) and im still having issues with the gp e even though it's set at its limit

I'm new at this and found a drink called Svelte. It is organic, gluten free, lower sugar, decent protein and pretty tasty, cheaper at Sam's Club, Walmart (order on line) and Amazon.

Enu by trovita health science is really good for me when sipped slowly throughout the day. 450 calories, 17 grams of fat, 12 grams of sugar and 23 grams of protein. They use real ingredients such as quinoa, coconut oil and rice. Non gmo, no artificial sweeteners it's naturally sweetened using stevia. Great by themselves or as a way to add calories to smoothies, shakes, purées, cereals etc. They are expensive but that's the price you pay for quality

I am using OWYN (Only What You Need) plant based cookies and creamless protein shakes. They have 5g of fiber and 4g of sugar and no dairy. I think they are a decent option but I am not trained in nutrition or gastroparesis so I’ll be interested to hear your take on them.

I have had Gastroparesis for 13 years. I have personally tried many things and lately the things working for me since I’m both diabetic and lactose sensitive is Daily Harvest smoothies and Soylent replacement drinks. I’m curious if anyone else has tried these.

As others have commented, the drinks you have there have synthetic and chemical additives which actually worsen overall health, including gastroparesis - some of which are carcinogenic. I go for non-GMO organic unfluoridated with no synthetic ingredients. Yes, it IS more expensive, but it pays off so much more in the long run.

Make your own drink. Coconut oil or olive oil, bone broth or collagen protein, salt, organic stevia, take a quality vitamin. If you you need carbs in it blend cooked peeled carrots in it. Cocoa powder works too but you will probably need more sweetener.

I love Orgain but it contains erythritol it causes me great discomfort with gas and cramping. Can you use any of your influence to have them use just a small amount sugar?

    • @TheSeverusSnape

Dolores Melnicoff Unlike the powder, the pre-made Orgain shakes use sugar as a sweetener.

I know it's not a perfect solution since this meal replacement drink is artificial but it is more of a medicine than an over-the-counter prodact. It is called PEPTAMEN (in EU you can get it only in a powder version called PEPTAMEN JUNIOR) and it is dedicated to the pre-Crohn desies patients and anyone who ahs also problem with absorbtion of nutritions through the gut. I found my self suffering from gastroperesis as well as soviere gut problems and very low motility on the intestans and so i do not quolify for a PEG that goes in to the gut since everything will bet stuck in my body anyway. I' ve found that PEPTAMEN was very helpfull for some people I ve been in hospitals in. I guess for me, appart from the sugar, lactose, gluten, fiber content, there is also a metter of the amount of protein I am able to take before blocking my stomach complitly. Also the osmolarity of the product is problematic for my stomach. Peptamen has a relativly low osmolarity though.
I will not discuse the taste since I a am not picky whan it somes to saving life.

I found ensure too hard for me muscle milk for some reason agreed with me better! I do both liquids and solids! I don't really miss food much anymore eating is hard to do yuck to eating lol :) I used to love to eat ha ha to me! I went from a 3x to a 14, starving living off liquid nutrition! Eventually I could eat solids again! Either way no good solutions for GP! I just want a cure I want relief! I check protein sugars n salt and always carbs! Check the products for this very important for all of us not just GP patients! We should pay attention to our foods and what is in them!

Muscle milk is also a good choice because it only has three grams of sugar and they have 220 calories per 14oz!!
