- An atmospheric river storm has battered California with record amounts of rain, destructive mudslides, and violent winds.

The intense weather caused flooding and triggered mud and debris flows in the Hollywood Hills and the Santa Monica mountains. Nearly 38 million people are under flood alerts across the state and into Arizona, including about 10 million people in Los Angeles county. "This has been a tough day for our city," said Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass.

They talk about damage not being covered by insurance. Long ago unless you CAN buy special coverage : Insurance stopped covering damage by nature. I live in Canada. Lost two homes , 3-4 vehicles, 2 businesses to nature with zero help from insurance. It is really a scam these days and mostly you carry insurance for 3rd party liability by law. So law aided robbery.

An atmospheric river is a common weather phenomenon in the pacific northwest. It happens here in the PNW multiple times every year in the winter. This particular storm was originally forecast to hit us like it usually does, but as we were watching it the storm went south and missed us. No one here was thinking about it until we heard about the floods in California.
But yeah if you're a paranoid schizophrenic then sure, this is a totally made up term that didn't exist until recently. The media just made it up. The government controls the weather and is trying to destroy California. Keep watching tiktok Miriam
Seriously, how bad is the education there? This is grade school learning about weather in Europe, the term has existed for a very very long time. Had one happen last year in Europe too, flooded half of my country, the worst ever recorded.

it's called "clickbait much". this sentence doesn't even make sense. river-fuelled ... so a river can be a fuel to a storm that takes place in atmosphere, which means rivers can exist in atmosphere? do they even think what they write?
a RIVER is large quantity of flowing water or stream of water.

Now everyone knows why you can't build your home anywhere without geological study , special concrete and the house lifted above the ground at least 1 floor, in a zone like this one & all the surrounding land must be terraced than special trees need to be planted that absorb a lot of rain and keep the ground in place!

I grew up in California and lived there for the first 41 years of my life. This most definitely is NOT the California climate I grew up with.

Whatever the weather, it is a climate crisis. Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, etc, etc, etc.
Whatever the weather, it is man made, and needs new taxes and new laws to stop the weather happening again.
Now that rivers have been reported to be environmentally damaging, action must be taken to stop rivers damaging the environment. That will require new taxes and new laws.
Until the next crisis, when they can run the whole schtick again.

I dont know about the USA climate, but here in the UK its not changed since i was a child and im old.
Summers are hotter, winters are milder and there are more extreme weather events in the UK. Global warming does not mean every country will be getting hotter, what it does mean is that the global temperature is escalating, records show this to be the case.
