How Rachael Gunn Qualified For The 2024 Olympics.
Rachael Gunn is not your average Olympian. A seasoned academic with a PhD in Cultural Studies, she’s also a world-class breakdancer who recently secured her spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This unique blend of intellect and athleticism has made her a standout figure in the world of sports and academia.
Gunn's journey to the Olympic stage began with her victory at the 2023 Oceania Breaking Championships. Her impressive performance earned her a coveted spot on the Australian Olympic team, making history as a trailblazing figure in the newly recognized Olympic sport of breaking.
As a lecturer at Macquarie University, Gunn's research focuses on the "cultural politics of breaking." Her academic pursuits have undoubtedly enriched her understanding of the art form, allowing her to bring a fresh perspective to the dance floor. Gunn's ability to seamlessly transition between the classroom and the competitive stage is a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication.
Her participation in the Paris Olympics is not only a personal triumph but also a significant step forward for breaking as a recognized sport. Gunn's story inspires athletes and academics alike, demonstrating that it's possible to excel in both intellectual and physical pursuits.

Ýeah, even the breakdancing kills you.
The performance was trash but still 10x better than what she did at the Olympics
She did good for a female hobbiest, but absolutely nothing special, and Yes 10x better than the olympics. Breakdancing as a sport is a young person's game. She sucked!
At least she is consistently terrible. I thought she was purposely trying to throw the event at the Olympics. She performed like she owed money to the mafia. Now we know that she truly is a bad dancer and Australia doesn’t have any females that can breakdance.
Well, Australia is an island with only few whites who do breakdance. Among them, shes tthe best..
And it feels like her energy aged 30 years since this routine
Yeah but 0 x 10 is still 0
HOW CAN SHE NOT SEE HERSELF
She is trying to take woke politics to an Olympic level. She's had some things to say against "meritocracy" inthat it isn't fair to treat people like they are bad or good at something just because they are bad or good at something. For example, I can't swim, but I deserve a gold medal in swimming as much as anyone does because meritocracy is unfair.
Probably dunning Kruger

She admitted in an interview that she typically doesn't go back and watch her performances.

The Dunning Kruger Effect, which is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities.
No look at the crowd and the HISTORY of Australia. This happens when you shut out other groups of people from competing and believe you are the creme de la creme. The world is so much better when you give everyone equal opportunities.
She's like that drunk aunt at a wedding that takes over the dance floor.

@@johnnightingale7680 that too, but she’s obviously surrounded by yes ppl. Supposedly she’s been breakdancing for years and no one’s not told her maybe she’s not that good. 😅 especially to go to the Olympics
As an Australian we are wondering how she got there too
yeh something smells fishy . i feel its all govt spyops. they really trying to get us to believe this is real . i saw her judging 10 people better than her in another video .
I'm guessing the good break dancers don't want to sell out going to the Olympics.
@@johnnzissou Apparently she started the Australian break dancing federation and is the in charge of it. Her husband is the Austaralian break dancing coach. There was a ton of corruption. I’m Australian and this performance is absolutely embarrassing I have seen tons of amazing breakdancers in Aus, some I even have seen in person! It’s shameful that this woman got picked over actually talented break dancers and the worst part is that no one will remember how well other Aussie athletes did. We can 4th one of our best performances (at least that I have seen) but we have been labelled with the one person that has in no way Olympic talent of break dancing. My wish is pls don’t assume all Australians can breakdance this one though… Ye it wasn’t good
Not being mean but this looks more like interpretive dance than break dancing.
No it’s not mean. It’s what it actually is, because that’s not breaking!!!
@@Nda54Gem Nah, it's breaking. Are you talking about this video? In this one she did six step, some spins, threading, double legged swipes and did not stick her freeze. All at a basic level. However, I don't believe, even for a second, most of the people mocking her could do that much.
Try it! Record yourself and compare, unless you've been diligently practicing for at least a month or two, you won't be able to do the six step or the threading motions.
@lucidjar there's multiple videos of people who have never break danced doing her entire routine from the Olympics. She's definitely not a Olympics level athlete.
@@snoop4470 That is why I specifically mentioned that I am talking about this performance and not the Olympics.
For the videos on her olympic routine, I've seen from both dancers and non-dancers. There's a very clear difference in fluidity and connecting smoothness between dancers and people who aren't dancers.
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this
When I was that age that performance wasn’t called dancing it was called walking home from the pub
Shut up!🤣🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂❤❤❤❤❤

THAT was a winning routine? Is Australia just that bad at breaking? How did this happen?
Corruption, she's a judge of other competitions
@exploreohio1735 you mean her husband
@CTN798 no the person she beat in the qualifying event is named molly, she judged her to send her there.
There's no video however of her competing to go to the qualifying event, might just been qualified because she's apart ofva organization that sends people to the Olympics
Her husband is her coach and on the selection committee, I see better dancers on the street in Australia.
Here is the thing: Olympics mean nothing, it's a private company. Olympics does not create breakdancing fame. Breakdancing does not need the olympics. She put Australia on the map as a tongue-in-cheek fun place. Taking Olympics seriously is just silly. Also breakdancing will not be in the Olympics anymore.
The qualification routine was better than what she did at the Olympics. But 45 seconds into it you can tell she was tired and losing momentum. Not surprised she scored all zeros:
I think this is what happened. She started too late and is far too old, not just to compete, but to even pull off the moves that veteran break dancers are capable of, not to mention the required stamina. She also lacks the specific muscle development acquired when break dancing as a teenager.
That’s because she’s old
She is the best Australia had? 2028 be ready I am working on my scooby doo moves 😂😂😂

Am I the only confused Gen-Xer that remembers what breakdancing actually is? What in the Grandmaster Flash is even happening?
You're not the only one... 🤔😂😅
Many of us. I never liked breakdancing much but there were obvious choreographed moves that made me think, "Dang, must have taken years of practice without breaking one's neck". It was much more than jerky moves and flailing arms and legs. Spinning about on the floor? My 57 year old body can do that too, right now, without any practice. So yes, it's an insult to Olympic athletes sharing the spotlight with THAT.
Nope. I'm an American who grew up alongside break dancing. It was not something I followed, but I saw people doing it in real life on the streets.
I'm in favor of everyone being allowed to try different things like dancing no matter where they are from.
But geez, did that Olympic performance make it hard to stick to my beliefs when the people talking about cultural appropriation showed up.
In this specific case, I can feel their pain.
It's really worse that she has a Ph.D in cultural studies specializing in break dancing and understands so little.
Sad thing is her praise of teaching this subject and sport at a university makes breakdancing a laughing joke. 😢 Several friends of mine in high school use to breakdance, this is disgraceful and disrespectful to those that actually care about this sport.
To be honest you don't even have to be a Gen-Xer to understand that this is not breakdancing. This was beyond the understanding of any generation. Looked like a honeybee stung her and she was just feeling the uneasy effects of it. Such a disgrace to Olympics on a whole.
If you scored zero at an olympic event, did you really make it to the olympics at all?
She got a free vacation to France payed for by the Olympic Committee
Well, she shouldn't have scored zeros, 2-4 maybe, but no one should score a zero unless you just don't show up.

You'd think a PhD would give her insight into how dance moves need to be incorporated into a coherent routine.
This HAS to be a cultural thing. How Australia defines breakdancing and most of the rest of the world defines it are epically different.

I've seen Molly's dance. It was better. Should've won over Raygun.
I’ve heard this called “Princess Syndrome”, and it’s a good title for it from what I see. We see it with some Swifties as well… people that can only see themselves as a “hero” or a “victim”. She truly believes that she is “good”, because she decided to change the standard to be what she wants it to be(and one that favors her) instead of adhering to the existing standard… but then if you don’t like it, “well, you must be a misogynist!” (Which then fuels the social movements to further support her)
This mentality is scary and it comes from having an abundance of privileged opportunity, but with no accountability or expectations. We can’t sit a tell young girls that they can “do or be anything they want”, but at the same time, have no expectations for how they then participate. (In fact, this is called “prejudice of lowered expectations”)
She has subsided in delusion, and only surrounds herself with those whom will validate her delusions(its mind blowing how many will do this)… and then they all protect her from ever having to face reality. It’s really pretty scary actually(even for her sake)!!! Especially when people like this gain a place of “power”, and then gatekeep opportunity with and for their own delusions…
None of her enablers were able to protect her from a ZERO score after THREE 'rounds'...😂

@grahamfisher5436 the other way around rather, the public needs her not to quit so so that they cam keep laughing hard 😂
Audience: Just wait!! You haven't seen **NOTHING**

I still don't understand how she won the 2023 oceana breakdancing either. It was a better routine but somehow still rubbish. How do you look stiff and have no rhythm like there's no flow no actual moves she seems tired it's just a No from me a Hell No. What is going on with the music as well 👎🏿
I guess the others were even worst 😂😂😂😂
@nad0862 the oceana breakdance competition looked rubbish. There was not much breakdancing, really. But apparently the Paris competition apparently got better. 😂
@@nad0862 no, they were better, just negative selection moment
Place looks empty, let's see the other contestants dance... Or lemme guess, her husband was the judge for that too?
@@nad0862I saw the person she was against, Molly Chapman, who is an excellent break dancer. So I don’t understand how Raygun won.
This is like one of those beerfest movies where they have to break dance to save their favorite corner store or something.
Toxic positivity at its absolute worst. My grandmother was doing things like this once. She was having a stroke.
This better be a troll..or a flagrant display of corruption..
Apparently she started the Australian break dancing federation and is the in charge of it. Her husband is the Austaralian break dancing coach. There was a ton of corruption. During the qualifying process, she faced much better dancers, yet she was awarded the Olympic spot. On top of that she denied funding for an underprivileged group of dancers from the Northern Territory to travel to the qualifiers, presumably because they were too talented. Full on corruption throughout the entire process.
@@javiersilva1577 how does she think she's good at this??? How??? Her husband is not a good person for encouraging any of this. He must hate her.
@@razzle8140 She definitely thinks she’s good. Narcissists place themselves above everybody else.

she should have done this routine at the olympics. it's still bad but it's not as bad as the olympics tragedy.
