same, 18 years in the game, it reminded me of the days when RUclips first arrived, the algorithms weren't yet strong enough to silence or remove a video. It's been 10+ years since I've been able to watch a battle with breaks with actual, cultural notability. After the copy-rights came along, the DJ's had to become beat-makers, this was to the point where now, the new generation hardly knows of these cultural staples. Yes, the Olympics had the cash for the copyrights, but that's not what makes me excited, what makes me excited is that someone behind the scenes put forth the effort to acquire those rights for the event. That person is dope.

Rhythmic gymnastic and ice dancing, even bmx fresstyle should also be considered as comparison. The major issue I have with this competition is the judging. For newbies, it is difficult to determine what is a mistake and what is taken into consideration. Although, even to the normal eye, Phil is very skilled, like playdoh the way he moves and Raygun is like us beginners learning to breakdance😂

im shocked RayGun was the best female aus had to offer considering im a rapper/full time rap teacher in australia as an american for the last decade plus and one thing i gotta give the aussies credit for, they rep the 'original FOUR elements of hip hop better than NYC WHERE IT STARTED - obv we got the raps on lock but aussies are way more into respecting bboy culture, there's more focus on graffiti and DJ'ing is prob equally big but its bigger in the HIP HOP scene in aus....
and then they chose RayGun - the unearned swag after the 'Mr.G SUmmer Heights High' skit performance

scoring must be so hard - atleast w skateboarding theres more OBjectivity in grading landing straight/even and pulling off the attempted trick evrn if they need slo mo to check etc - kinda like grading gymnastics but this is so much happening so fast im not surprised it only got one olympics (it wont be in next time)

Breaking is much more than a 1V1 session, if groups of 5 -10 breakers took part to represent their country perhaps this would of been the better approach as I have seen on BattleOfTheYear in europe. Would of been more entertaining to watch the choreography and technicalities combined as a performance. IOC should have changed it to that format.

    • @lawrenceworrell591

Hands down phil wizard is the stronger dancer. He has so much flexibility to bend and curl, and then the strength he has is extraordinary; he did crazy kicks and wow the creativity. You can see at the end of the song that he finished it nicely with his arm in the air. Pure natural talent.
If you want to get gold and be the best you have to go outside the square from the traditional 360 degree spins. I saw alot of that in Danny's routine. Clear winner goes to Phil.
