I do not throw the switch.
From a legal standpoint doing nothing is the best move. Its not your fault that the train is going to kill multiple people and you can get legal help (as a witness)from the person you saved
The fact that the baby painter survived might have stopped a series of events from happening differently over the the last about 100 years to cause the future to be completely altered that it is worse than if he survived. I would know I ranted about it to myself for 20 minutes :)
My favorite: There is 1 person on the track, but if you pull the lever, it will go to another fork in the road with another person at the lever and 2 people on the track. If he pulls it, the trolley goes to another fork with 3 people, etc., on to infinity. Do you pull the lever, indirectly causing a potentially infinite number of deaths that are technically some other guy's fault, or just let the guy die?

Neglect is never a crime, so the correct answer is always to not pull the lever, it can only be sometimes permissable to pull the lever if for instance there are no individuals on where you redirected the train.
Actually, there is no "Secret button" on a track switch to do that. If you really wanna do track drifting, you keep the switch in the same position until half of the trolley has passed over it, THEN you switch.

In the question where the lever broke, I didn't pull it, because I knew there was an invisible puppy in Track 2, so the lever isn't broken in the Hitler question, and now world peace has been achieved!
Him "saving" three people by actively killing one is such an European answer (ie: Napoleonic Code). In the United States it doesn't work that way and the law would much favor you for not being a part of a death, even when you could save more in the process. We call that manslaughter. Trolley problem isn't so easily solved by utilitarianism, which is what you seem to suggest. Under some jurisprudence, you still have responsibilities of mens rea and actus reus to answer for.

For a stoic, the only acceptable reaction to every trolly question is to do absolutely nothing but to calm your emotions.
Also pulling the lever means you’re committing manslaughter whereas if you’re just doing nothing you’re just a witness.
