I did the melt mod and was running 16x8 wheels with 285/75/16 tires. Upgraded to 305/70/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on same wheels. No lift at all and only melt mod. I have a very slight rub on the inner frame when turning to the left only. The right front tire wheel barely contact the frame if I turn it hard left. No contact when turning right. Love the beefier tires on my X. 285's are not a problem at all.
A hairdryer and the head of a hammer worked great for me. Had one side that popped out after a couple of days so I'll need to touch that up. No other rubbing anywhere with 285/75.
In December 2020. I bought 4 285/75R16's Thunderer Mudders, I had already done a 3" lift on it, but it was getting harder to break, but they were great in the Sand & Snow, So in March 2021 I replaced them again with 4 Bridge stone duler factory size.
Hey I bought my X used a few months ago and the brakes were not grabbing... Recent upgraded to ebc yellows and now it stops great! Lol lots of brake dust but I don't mind dirty rims and tires
Good job on the vid! I bought an 06 Pathfinder a couple years ago and have been thumbs upping your vids ever since. With winter coming I'll be taking off my 20" wheels and putting the stocks back on and the time has come for new rubber on them, so I was looking up the meltmod as I wanna go as big as I can on the stockees, so this vid was right on time! Thanks man!
I cut out the section instead of melting it! Can confirm 285/75r16 fit with no lift, no rubbing with this section removed. I did drive it home from the tire shop before doing this mod - the rubbing was a minor annoyance for a short trip.
Good to know. My new grabber atx’s just arrived. I did the melt mod earlier today and have been double checking that they will fit on my 2015 Pro-4x. The lift will come in a few months.
Thanks for demonstrating what melt mod is. Been looking into getting an over landing rig; not to worried about rock crawling but would like to be able to go on most trails. Question: I read that the stock Xterra has ground clearance of 9.5 inches so maybe 2.5 inch lift and 33 tires would work. Or just go to 285/75/16 for a bit of off reading? Thanks for help
Ry, Great video. It's always better seeing the process in video than from the forum photo stills. I run BFGKO2's, 285/75/16 on my 08 X, OR. The melt mod has done me well for several years running Mickey Thompson MTZ 285's and a borrowed set of tall skinny BFG MT, 255's. Just a note, the BFGKO2's on stock wheels have squarer shoulders and rub slightly (enough to polish the frame rails) on the frame at full lock but not too bad.
Good job man well done how are you doing? Would you please, teaching us How to keep fog lights on with high beam in nissan XTERRA please I really need for it and thank you so much

Thanks again! I seem to be right there with your modification videos for my X. Two questions, one: are you also going to “melt-mod” the front bumper well? Two: have you considered installing an off-road bumper?
Thanks for the video. I had 285/75's installed earlier this week. The installer, a Toyota guy, insisted that I would have to do some cutting to keep them from rubbing. LOL
Nope all you need to do it melt lol. Some people do actually cut but I prefer to melt since you are not creating places for dirt and water to get through.
and since then, was the melt enough? Im on 265's right now but would like to put on some 285's for my next set. Stock suspension, currently running Wrangler GTs...pretty aggressive for a daily tread, prob why i have poor fuel mileage. But I'd like to get some 'free' ride height increase and I dont really offroad mine.
i got 285/75/16s with the ADO lift you got plus SPC UCAs recently. i didnt need to do this mod thankfully cause i thought it was the front id have to melt not the back of the fender liner. i was actually a little concerned i didnt get any rubbing i thought i messed something up cause i for sure thought i was gonna have to mod something
Do you have an Xterra or a Frontier? Asking because I have the ADO lift on my 2011 Frontier and would like to get a bigger tire when I get new wheels. Thanks
I crammed 285/70r17 with just a 1.5" spacer lift. Used a hf heat gun. Also kept the oem flaps on which I trimmed just a hair as well. Only rubs when it's at full lock and flexing. Looks good too

I'm still undecided if I want to go 285 because my partner is already complaining about jumping in and out of the car (lol she's short). Maybe this will give me an excuse to get rock sliders??? 🤔
Is not enough, you will need to cut metal. Out from the bottom of the fender about an inch and also If you take the fender liner off you will see that you have a 3 sheet metal joint (glued) you will need to remove about half inch maybe 3/4" of those 3 sheetmetal corners. After that you can have your liner on again and melt to shape to screw on again.
@@edgarinv hey Edgar, thanks for that info! Which 285 tire did you end up getting? I'm thinking I'll just stay 265 and try the falken wildtrack at3w for my next tire. Currently running hankook and it's getting pretty bald.... Lol
