Very awesome. Can you give an estimste on material costs for the shelving? Thinking about doing this! Also, im in Colorado too :) if you sell anything let me know
Love this build. I’ve slept many comfortable nights in my xTerra thanks to a custom cut piece of memory foam and a mosquito netting insert for the window. I love the raised platform storage rig. Really impressive. Just recently passed 400,000km on my 2013 (which is about 249,000 of your freedom units).
I appreciate the high praise! Enjoy the X... it's done us well. I just picked up a old Cayenne Turbo that I'm about to try to make a camping vehicle too. Stay tuned
Just got a 2013 Xterra. Really like it alot. Mine is identical. I love the lava red color. Nissan has nice equipment for sure. First one i owned. Litterally just bought 2 days ago. Can wait to go off road and camp in the mountains. I watched some Xterras do some off roading that was mind blowing to say the least. I bought the truck knowing it was bad....but not wicked bad. Haha. Stay safe out there and save up your money. By the time you are my age you could buy a home cash and a nice piece of property to go with it. And 4x4 on your own 100+acres. Wish someone like me told me this at your age. Living frugal pays off huge if you stay disciplined and keep it real. You are on the right track. Don't get discouraged, your young and healthy and have many for feet on those miles, take them slow and smart...
Absolutely brilliant -- just got a 2013 Pro4x and am driving up to Inuvik NWT from Ontario and hope to use it for other road trips -- would love to do some of these modifications! Such well-thought out design
Awesome drawer system!! I Have an 05 4x4 X and I've been trying to think of ways to build something similar. I'll definitely be rewatching for ideas when the time comes to build🤘🏻🤘🏻
Man I’ve got an ‘07 2wd didn’t buy it for camping but I’ve taken it camping all over Colorado last few years. Hard to justify dropping any kind of money into it though, cuz 2wd...
Dude this is awesome! I just moved out here to CO from the East and some old lady blew through a red light and totaled my vehicle. Bright side is I can finally buy an Xterra 😁 Love the stock-looking mods. The foot switch for the brights is awesome, never seen that. Subbed. Take it easy.
Gotta admit, I _like_ that drawer system. Not sure if I could do something similar with my X, as it's an '01 first gen, and I don't remember seeing anything like those rails in my cargo bay. Wouldn't be as easy, but I _do_ like the concept.
You don't need them....there's already removable anchors in the floor behind that back seat that will work. Frankly, it's overkill....once that's loaded up with gear it's not going anywhere.....I have an 02 converted...
Nice mods. The bed and storage looks really cool and the water tank is awesome. Thanks for the ideas. I think we will make those for our trips when we don't take the trailer. We added a bunch of switches and things to our X also.
of course! it's always a challenge between enjoying the serenity and pulling out the camera. Regardless, check out this video ruclips.net/video/TDw4WvFIfj8/видео.html
I believe the old fords 90s and older trucks had the foot clicker up a bit higher, if I would have did the foot clicker I would have moved it closer to the foot rest, that way if you are getting in and out you have chance of dragging your foot across the clicker.
Having to piece through the video but like the water system. Also in Colorado, how does the system hold up with our hot dry summers? Seems like the PVC would degrade a bit.
Really well done! Def enough info here for someone to put this all together themselves. I would give a like but when I saw the last two seconds of the video i cringed so hard I threw my tablet across the room

Im getting ready to purchase a 2010 xterra 4x4. They say its the off road edition but it doesnt say off road on the side. Can it still be an off road edition? How do i know what gen it is? Itll be my first nissan. Thx
I’m here in Colorado. Drive a 2011 pro4x and I may need to pick your brain. This is exactly what I e been planning, but haven’t seen anything like it. I wanted to be able to remove the front part and keep the back in full time. I also wasn’t sure how to tackle keeping the built in storage. Also, how did you attach the water storage on top? Again, I’d love to pick your brain on these things.
water storage is attached with canoe straps or sometimes a ratchet strap. I also use canoe foam blocks that i cut a circle in. Next build video will be on the water container :)
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that? I'm in the market and trying to get a handle on what range I should be looking for. Cheers!
I got a very good deal due to known history on the vehicle, and not opting for the Pro-4X trim. Can't tell the exact amount, but I'd suggest $15k as the upper end for a post 2011 S trim with below 100k miles. Add some $$ if you opt for the Pro-4X.

Hard to say. I think there are posts in this in the 2nd gen xterra forum. If memory serves me right, you'll have to do a slight "melt mod" without the lift. But I'd recommend the lift. It rides much better and the X's stock leaf springs need help, especially as they get old.
Great “Stock+” look, the quality of workmanship really shows through. Thanks for including the sleeping length measurement, how do you find the headroom when sleeping?
It's manageable. I would say 1x12s would make the platform too tall and not leave enough headroom. The 1x10s preserve enough headroom for some movement.
I have recovery tracks, and a shovel mounted to the super struts on the roof. The shovel uses 4 spring nuts, and a couple bungie cords for the recovery tracks at the moment.

Most practical Xterra build I’ve seen yet!
Great setup... you continue the Xterra motto, Everything you need, nothing you don't
Wow, love this! The practicality of the XTerra is unbelievable with the extra roof height in the back for headroom and all of the tie down points.
one of the most quality, DIY builds I have seen. Everything seems thought out and well planned

we have a black bag for water but this is pretty ingenious and cheap!

Andrew Keeton my thoughts as well! No reason to not go out and have some fun with it at least!
I have always wondered how to exit the rear of my Xterra Gen2 once I lay down in the back -- 6:50 now I know!!
I'd be interested in a full DIY/build video/plans for the entire back..drawers/platform/etc.
Will do. I have the drawers video up and I have the front platform filmed... Just need to edit.

cool vid man! my question is how did you mount your light bar? thanks
Some simple bolts and locking nuts from the local hardware store have done the trick for 5 years
My Xterra has a flat-folding passenger front seat. Probably makes sleeping a bit easier

what did you get for your radio/stereo system? i just bought a 2008 and that is the first thing I want to change.
What surface did you mount the brackets for the front light bar to? Hung it from the top or the bottom?
I used the brackets that came with the lightbar and mounted it from the bottom. 4 years and no issues.
Sorry for the late reply. Very busy time.
This is a great build can you put out a detailed video about your drawer system?
Currently in the works. Hoping to have it up withing 2 weeks
Great set up. What size BFG A/T's are those? Did you have them before the lift? IF so, any rubbing? Thanks
They're a size up from stock and yes, they will slightly rub if not lifted a bit.
Neat! Where did you get those U-bolts with the rubber lining on the roof mount?
Vibration Damping U-Bolts on McMaster-Carr
www.mcmaster.com/products/u-bolts/vibration-damping-u-bolts/
Rubber lining was just laying around my garage, and something similar can be found at your local hardware store.
@@Down2Fly Thanks! I have an Xterra I need to mount a big solar panel, so those U-bolts will do the trick!

hey id really appreciate the specs of the water storage pipe!
The water tube on the rack is great! Did you custom make that or can it be purchased somewhere?
Its a custom make. Just some PVC and hardware from your local hardware store. I'll get a video up about the water tank soon.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that? I'm in the market and trying to get a handle on what range I should be looking for.

I made it. It's not pressurized yet, but does surprisingly well just with gravity.

wow
Do you happen to know the model of recessed lights you put in back?
I got them off ebay... unfortunately, they were discontinued, so the link from my purchase history isn't much help
