Good video. I bought the first generation in 2000 and sold in 2015. Though it was a cost effective SUV, Nissan reliability was sub par. As a mechanically inclined owner, I take meticulous car of all my vehicles. Head gaskets blew at 100K, cracked exhaust manifolds, antilock brake issues, radiator failed at 80K. I chocked it up to first year production growing pains. Bought a second generation 2006 in 2015 with 100k miles. Knew the retired owner and knew the Xterra was well cared for. Many issues over the next 30k miles. Failed spark plug coils, window motor and side mirror motors failed as did the radio. Catalytic converter failed at 115k miles. Transmission began to fail (no issues of milkshake of death. Also installed a stand alone trans cooler). Oil pressure began dropping with oil light coming on periodically at 130k miles. I knew the timing chain cover gaskets were going resulting in low oil pressure. Glad I got the Xterra off my hands. I really wanted to like my Xterras but Nissan reliability went into the crapper. Hope my Toyota fairs better.
Thanks for the video, I've got a 2006 Xterra and I leared some stuff aboutt Xterras I didnt know! Very cool set up Im getting a sleeping bag in mine soon!
I'm 74, love my '07 Xterra and four wheeling. I already boondock in it, but want to set it up better, thanks for the Ideas:) How do you keep the drawer from pulling too far out?
your video was awesome keeping it simple and independent man....loved it and i am 66 years young. I use a bellow pump sleeping bag.....just a bit more informal. love the design...of you younger guys.....its about you all caught on the good life.....without wifi ....jrs
Bout to buy an xterra and was YouTubing around for some easy mod ideas and clicked bc ur too cute. Video did not disappoint. Cool ideas and I learned alot. Thanks man. Happy Trails✌
Hey I love the setup. Especially the drawers/bed. I have a 2006 xterra and was thinking about doing something like that. Did you have any specs you went by? And materials used? I appreciate the advice. Thanks
Your set up looks cool. We modified oursso we can have a camping fridge in the back for long trips and just use padding for sleeping in the back for short or 4x4 trips. We love our Xterra for camping. We took it on the Mojave road and hopefully we will take it again in February. For longer trips it tows our teardrop trailer we made and then we can do some off roading but we can pack a lot of stuff in the Xterra. It really is a great vehicle for camping.
@@AdamRyanA we carry a lot of stuff too and we have to reorganize it when we go to bed so making a cabinet system for us to sleep on top of might make that a little bit faster and easier. when we take the trailer it's not a problem at all we just shove everything in the Xterra but we can't exactly bring the trailer on say the Mojave road. We have to take only the Xterra for that.
I’ve been trying to figure out another way to keep my bike stable in the back of my xterra, I have the Mustang wheels with thru axle, thanks for the idea.....I hadn’t thought of using pvc.
Great looking setup. Enjoy your trip to Palo Duro Canyon. Post some vids of your adventure for us. I hope to get up there and do a little hiking this year myself.
@@gregtravels233 my husband is 6'1" and we have to push the front seat fully forward and collapsed to give him extra head room. We don't have a box set up, just foam pads so we have to fill the space between the back and front seats to support our heads.
Xterra can tow more than Jeep Wrangler. And during those era, it also was stronger, faster and more reliable. Proven. But when they discontinued it. The Jeeps Wrangler and Rubicon started having more Torque and Horse power. Not much but even till this day. The Xterra is performing like it was way far out ahead of it's time. But the Pro 4X is what you should of gotton.
@@Agent.K. Oh really? Well then my research is wrong. haha Last I checked it had just a little more. But it's still not as fast as the Xterra. 'Cause I've raced my friends a few times. But if you said it has more torque still, that's awesome. But if you can help me out with proof. I'll love to learn from you.
khmerbraveheart You can google the numbers. The standard and most popular wrangler engine is the 3.6 pentastar which was the only engine until late 2018. It has 285 hp and 260 tq since it came out in 2012. Xterra VQ40 has 261-270 hp (most common number is 261) and 281-285 tq. (same engine in pathfinder with premium fuel has 288 hp, in Nissan Patrol 275). So no matter what it still has more torque than wrangler 3.6, both gen v6 FJ cruiser and 4Runner (vvti and dual vvti). New wrangler has 2 new engines: 2.0 4 cylinder turbo 275 hp 295 tq, and eco diesel 3.0 turbo 260 hp 442 tq. Plus the old-ish 3.6. Don’t forget that Xterra had same engine since 2005 when TJ wrangler had 4.0 I6, then JK from 07 to 11 had minivan 3.8 with 202 hp and 237 tq.
khmerbraveheart From my experience, 2 door wrangler vs Xterra is drivers race. But Xterra will beat 4 door wrangler everywhere but rocky terrain. Rubicon is the best out of factory.
John hendrickson i got about 120K, only issues I had was a rear axle shaft was making noise. that was replaced by the dealer (Free) then 10 years later an AC resistor which I replaced myself (there’s a DIY RUclips video) here’s the reason I traded it was, if I was at a stand still and I stepped on the gas and took off I started hearing a transmission grinding. Could of been a 1st gear going bad who knows what it was. I didn’t want to deal with it so I traded it for a 2015 pathfinder. My lease on omy 2017 Rogue midnight edition is up in June and I find myself still looking for a XTerra. I had the 2000 Xterra as well and traded for the 05 and it was the best truck/car I ever had. Good luck 👍

The front passenger seat folds down all the way. Lever is on the upper rear. It may help with sleeping space.

Nice setup! Just got me an XTerra to turn into an overlander. This was very helpful
I’m glad I could help, you will love it! 🤙
pretty slick set up. can ya give us the measurements for the box?
I love BOX too. Best thing to sleep on and eat on in the morning.
Loving the whole box ideal.
Thank you Michael ❤️

I know Im quite off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released series online?
@Casen Anson Flixportal :D
@Cassius Juan Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it!
@Casen Anson Happy to help xD
Nice setup man! Can I get the measurements on your box?
Dude thank you so much for this video! Super helpful. Can’t wait to camp out in my Nissan Xterra soon!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and glad I could help out, and I love camping in mine! Just made a updated camper set up a few weeks ago

This set up is awesome! How did you make the box? I want this!
Did I miss something? On part 1 didn't you have a stove on a slide out shelf with glides?
You watched two different build outs lol
Love your video about the karens at the boat dock!! Question. I have a 05 Escape. I think it looks like an xterra. What's your opinion??
Awesome setup try taking out front seat I did mine it's awesome i use as a lawn care truk pull trailer also
I would love to do that but I usually have someone with me
How long is the sleeping platform?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm 6ft and don't know of this will be long enough. I'm in the market for a 4x4 with room enough to sleep in
Awesome setup!! Fast and easy!

The one thing I love about my 14 xterras rear seats is the ability to remove the bottom cushions easily.
Yes!! I love that too!

Great video thank you

What is it about white you like?
Good job bro
So what kind of light bar is on there? I been lookin for one since like yours its not a pro 4x. I just got my xterra less than a month ago.
It was just a straight bar I got off eBay, I don’t think it was branded
I believe I got gorilla mounts for it tho which are made for the Xterra, this was a few years ago so I’m not sure if they are still around
Great job!
And how much did it cost for supplies to build this box! Thanks man 🙏🏼
great video i have a 2014 xterra
They are the best!
Wen I need seat I just grab out of storage and passenger just rolls with unconnectedseat
Excelent!! Congratulacions!!!
Nice setup!
If you turn that sleeping bag inside out so the cotton side is on the outside you won’t slip and slide everywhere
@adamryan how tall are you bro? I'm looking at xterras to do this with but I am 6'1 and Im not sure I will fit. Let me know!
@admryan I have the same question Pete posed, because I'm 6' tall. Also what average fuel mileage do you get on the Xtrerra?
Whay year is this Xterra?
how tall are you? what kind of head room do you have in between your noggin and the passenger seat? thanks!!
I’m 5”9 and there is plenty of room, I’m assuming you mean sitting in the seat? And not on the sleeping plate form
@@AdamRyanA I was wondering, when you're laying on the sleeping platform, how much room you have. I'm 6'3" and I'm thinking it might be a little snug.
