    This isn't about testing the compressor, it's about testing the compressor clutch. Big difference.

    • @anorsegoddess9797

      Yes and no. A working compressor will turn on when car is running and AC is turned on.

  • @AbstractBandit
    @AbstractBandit Год назад +164

    If the compressor doesn't click while ac is on, it could also be low on refrigerant. If you fill it up the proper way and the clutch still doesn't engage (click) then the compressor is most likely bad.

      Could also be the pressure switch as well. Could also be the electromagnet. (Unless you check the resistance and it measures between 3-5 ohms. Could be a short in the line like the guy said above and it could also be low on refrigerant. Surprised dude in the video didn’t mention any of these, especially when the pressure switch and being low on Freon is the problem A LOT of the time.

      @elemenopi55 8 дней назад

      @@azkc3857 i see. could there still be enough pressure/refrigerant to turn on the compressor even though there isn't enough refrigerant to blow cold air into the car's interior?

    • @azkc3857
      @azkc3857 8 дней назад +1

      @elemenopi55 if anything you might still have some to have the compressor engage BUT while its leaking you might not have enough to keep the inside of your car cold, so when it leaks completely then the compressor won't turn on and you'll only have hot air coming in
      Common leak spots are
      The two Lines High And Low Pressure which have Somthing called O-Rings where it connects to the compressor or the Condenser
      Condenser could also fail but it's very uncommon
      Compressors also have o rings and Oil to run the compressor built in which Is main causes of a compressor failing
      I Recommend flushing your AC system by taking it to a mechanic that can recycle the rest of the refrigerant and then filling it with R134a with UV Dye (Depending what refrigerant your car takes thats the most common one every car takes) once it leaks if it's a high leak then you notice it instantly from letting your car run if it's a small leak you probably have to leave it on or ride it till it leaks the uv Dye and check where in the lines or Compressor it leaked with a UV Light (BlackLight)
      One last thing c9upd be your lines are clogged up and it might need a flush start with the uv Method first I'd say before you go above and beyond
      Quite a long paragraph but I hope It can guide you better to your problem

    I’m 99.9 percent sure that compressor works perfectly fine, why spend 300 dollars on a new compressor when all you have to do is spend about 50 bucks or even less and change out the compressor clutch coil on your existing compressor.
    It’s just held on by a bolt usually 10mm the clutch drive plate slides out , careful no to lose the shims that come out they’re thin pieces of metal that look like washers , then you’ll see a snap ring holding the pulley in place take the snap ring off then if you’re lucky the pulley should slide out by hand if not you’ll need a 2 or 3 jaw extractor to get it off don’t try using a hammer cause you’ll damage the bearing.
    Once you got the pulley off you’ll expose the magnetic clutch coil again it’s just held in place with a snap ring get it off and the coil will come right out.

    That is not testing the compressor.. that is testing the CLUTCH of the compressor.
    The compressor does more things and it could fail in other ways too. The clutch is the first thing to take a look at, but you could easily hear if the clutch is working as it will make a distinctive sound when you press the AC button. What you need to do next is show us how to diagnose a compressor... you guessed it... NOT compressing.

Thinking about hill billying and converting a washing machine motor to do the pulley work for the compressor. I'm an engineer so I was going to bolt them to body where there's room under the hood, run the lines and use the motor instead of the engine pulleys with the switch working with the thermostat for cool down as well. What's the worse thst can happen? And when I say engineer, I do got my degree, just never practiced it as im also going for entrepreneurship

      From what you typed. It sounds like the clutch is stuck and is engaged no matter what. I obviously can’t see your car, so going based off this the clutch may be bad on the compressor unit. Some shops replaced the clutch part or the entire ac compressor depending on the make and model. As another internet stranger who does not know you personally I would recommend going to a different shop to get another quote or inspection. A lot of times shops will half ass the inspections or won’t do all of the tests to root out the exact issue. So if you feel as if their findings don’t sit well. Listen to your gut and move on to another shop.

There's also a switch that signals whether or not there's enough pressure in the AC system lines. Maybe a rock or something hit a line or the condenser and the noise was the refrigerant leaking out. If you want to test that you can either buy some self add refrigerant with a gauge and it will tell you the ammout of pressure in the system. You just want to stay in the green. Or you can unplug the sensor and bridge the wires and if it kicks on you know your switch I bad.

    I discovered today that my garage simply left the connector unplugged after maintenance (scammers or noobs). Saved a lot of money🤑 thanks to your video!

    when i press the a/c button in my car the pulley doesn’t move. I unplugged the wire and connected it to the positive side of the battery, after which i hear the clicking sound and the clutch engages. what does this mean and what should i do to fix the problem. Thanks!

      I believe you stated that if it engages it could be the fuses. My car is a 2012 Accord V6 and I have swapped the horn relay with the magnet clutch relay but that didn’t do anything. are there any other fuses or relays that I should check or replace too! Thanks again

      You don’t have enough pressure in your system, check for any leak and top up your system
