Honestly I try to hide the fact that I use Webtoon and to an extent Tapas because of the notorious-ness of those ads. But trust me, having a whole app dedicated to making and reading comics *for free* is just as awesome as it sounds. You just need to avoid the cancerous stuff and look hard enough.

I think that's not what the media was trying to portray. The one who sees her as 'ugly' is jugyeong(idk if i spelled that right) and the shitty side characters. Its actually pretty understandable, because her siblings were basically flawless, but she's the only 'normal' one in the family. She's incredibly insecure, so she thinks she has to use makeup to be beautiful, when that's not the case at all. Hence, the webtoon's called "True Beauty". Sry if i came across as snobbish.

I kind of wish that True Beauty was more of like how you described True Cathy and not the love triangle-driven comic it is. Not that the webtoon is bad but it would sound more relatable and interesting if they took this route.
Yea true beauty started out so well. The main girl had character and had a guy who liked her for her. She actually had interests and personality. But then she dates her kpop bf who didn’t even know her real face for the longest time and their relationship is just calling each other pretty. That’s the only thing their relationship is. Both kpop and the main keep lying to each other because of their own insecurities. They’re all super shallow now. Everyone lost personality. It’s awful.

Oof yeah I respect your opinion but for me, and I am speaking this from my POV, our opinions may clash, it really isn't that great. I had to drop the webtoon. Not really my stuff, I got fed up with it and just had to drop it. It never really portrayed the idea of true beauty as well as other webtoons I've read. To me the mc seems as if she has stayed the same from the very start, I mean I expected her to be a bit more confident by start of season 2 but not really. But still what made me drop it for real was the love triangle, idk I like someone webtoons with love triangles but this one ain't it. I liked the idea of it, just didn't execute it quite well for me. Of course it could've changed by now since I dropped it 2-3 months ago. Tho I gotta say the art is absolutely amazing it's very pleasing to the eyes.

Honestly I try to hide the fact that I use Webtoon and to an extent Tapas because of the notorious-ness of those ads. But trust me, having a whole app dedicated to making and reading comics *for free* is just as awesome as it sounds. You just need to avoid the cancerous stuff and look hard enough.

also oh my god I'm so tired of seeing comics and movies about "ugly" girls who literally look NORMAL. the "ugly" things about them are (1) no makeup, (2) acne, (3) glasses, or (4) curly hair. I've gotten ads for "True Beauty" and I'm like COME ON her "ugly" version is just a normal female human being without makeup
edit: it would be better if the stories were literally criticizing the fact a woman is considered ugly without makeup, but 99% of the time the media is presenting it like "yes see how ugly she is" and then there's the glow-up with makeup and everything. but they frame it as if she's learning to love herself.... by wearing makeup.

Every chapter is beautiful and sends a positive message about living yourself. Plus the main character has everyone supporting her to love herself as she is unlike in TB 🤠
I think that's not what the media was trying to portray. The one who sees her as 'ugly' is jugyeong(idk if i spelled that right) and the shitty side characters. Its actually pretty understandable, because her siblings were basically flawless, but she's the only 'normal' one in the family. She's incredibly insecure, so she thinks she has to use makeup to be beautiful, when that's not the case at all. Hence, the webtoon's called "True Beauty".

I kind of wish that True Beauty was more of like how you described True Cathy and not the love triangle-driven comic it is. Not that the webtoon is bad but it would sound more relatable and interesting if they took this route.
Yea true beauty started out so well. The main girl had character and had a guy who liked her for her. She actually had interests and personality. But then she dates her kpop bf who didn’t even know her real face for the longest time and their relationship is just calling each other pretty. That’s the only thing their relationship is. Both kpop and the main keep lying to each other because of their own insecurities. They’re all super shallow now. Everyone lost personality. It’s awful.

@@frogshehe9384 Not sure where you're getting that from. Jugyeoung soon finds out, after being pretty, that people will still judge you as easily as if you were "ugly". There are problems she has to deal with, and that's the point of the comic. Everyone has problems, and as soon as you fix one, five more will pop up. It wasn't created to "shame ugly people," if thats what you're saying. More so the opposite.
Oof yeah I respect your opinion but for me, and I am speaking this from my POV, our opinions may clash, it really isn't that great.
I had to drop the webtoon. Not really my stuff, I got fed up with it and just had to drop it. It never really portrayed the idea of true beauty as well as other webtoons I've read. To me the mc seems as if she has stayed the same from the very start, I mean I expected her to be a bit more confident by start of season 2 but not really.
But still what made me drop it for real was the love triangle, idk I like someone webtoons with love triangles but this one ain't it.
I liked the idea of it, just didn't execute it quite well for me. Of course it could've changed by now since I dropped it 2-3 months ago. Tho I gotta say the art is absolutely amazing it's very pleasing to the eyes.
