That's so weird, I had a similar experience when I was like 13 or 14, and I was contacted on Deviantart to draw SPICY MLP ART. But I told him I was a minor and uncomfortable drawing that, he apologized profusely.
@@creativehorsequeen Yeah, I never held it against him, he just had some weird kink, and I was so young it took me by surprise! But I don't think he was a bad dude ^-^
I remember my first commission. It was in 7th grade and I was asked for "A girl riding tentacles." The thing is I didn't take it sexually, more in how one would ride a dragon through the sky. So that's what I drew, a girl riding on top of tentacles.
There are some real creeps out there... I don't mind the fact that he wanted to commission NSFW art, you do you my guy, but e-mailing a HIGH SCHOOLER, a LITERAL LEGAL CHILD to do it- yeah, huge red flag.
I literally tried to do commissions for some stylized cats I was doing (not that good but whatever). First guy that messaged me said "do you do weight gain art?". It was on DeviantArt. I knew he was asking me to do NSFW art of the cats. THEY WEREN'T EVEN HUMANOID, THEY WERE JUST CATS.
@@moonegalactica no. Basically, there are people that get off on people gaining weight. It's fine for people to like fat body types, I'm not judging. But 1) Weight gain is kinda like an inflation thing. And 2) it's a cst. Not anthropomorphic or anything, literally just a normal cat. Which made it weird.
@@KC_Garcia True, but it's just quicker to have someone raise you up to the third tier just to check something then doing it the "safe" way. Also turning a pallet jack backwards and riding it like a scooter is fun.
I especially like it because it reminds me of the training I had at OSHA, when I was in the navy...they made me safety petty officer, so I had to get the training. The drawing of someone on a chair reminds me of a 400 lb civilian woman who insisted on using a chair to reach things. That wasn't the only clue that she wasn't overly bright.
I cannot fathom why a grown adult- knowing that he would be needing nsfw artwork for his comic- would seek out an artist that he knew would be in _high school._ Actually, come to think of it, I'm also kind of surprised the teacher just passed that contact on to a student without (I assume?) looking into him at all. Like, finding opportunities for your students is great, but you NEED to know who you're sending those kids towards, and exactly what's going to be asked of them. This was definitely a strange and uncomfortable situation, but it sounds like it had the potential to go a lot worse.
Personally, if you’re a grown adult asking anyone under the age of 21 to draw you NSFW art, I find that creepy. (I say under 21 because even though 18 is usually legal, 18-20 is considered late adolescence. Plus sometimes 18’and 19 year olds are high schoolers)
Finally I found another artist who started art classes in high school and wasn't as good as the other kids!!! I started taking art seriously in high school and only did it for fun everyday and all day before then! I wasn't as good as everyone else. I hated acrylics and water color and didn't get my art posted outside the art room often and never read it put in the cases around the school! Heck I couldn't even draw humans and only drew animals so my teacher wasn't too fond of my art skills
UGH man, the way art is taught at school is so bad!! I've been teaching my 30 yo brother this past year and he made me realize that not a single technique or even fundamental theory was ever taught to him. It was always about copying realism with no understanding of shapes, volume or how to mix a goddamn colour! Nothing to spark his imagination - it's no fun AND you don't even learn anything in the end?? And my experience with college wasn't any different. It was once again just making the thing over and over again until it starts to look somewhat good. But man... I got better, sure; all those mindless studies later and I still couldn't make anything on my own - because all I knew how to do is copy what I see. That time could have been used so much better if I hadn't wasted it repeating the same mistakes without realising... At least digital stuff is being taught a little better (graphic design, 3d and such) but drawing? A skill you could VERY much use in those other areas? Everybody gotta be on their own lmao
I used to be a doodler who only started actual art classes in high school, but unfortunately I wasn't perseverant enough to push past the discouragement of my work not being up to "standards" and don't really even try to draw much anymore.
@@mydzy Man, that really sucks. I really lucked out with my HS art teacher. He never looked down on anyone for their style, taught the fundamental elements and principles of art, and encouraged us to draw what we're passionate about as much as possible. Sure, there were a few times we had to draw something specific (ie still life or portrait drawings) but he always framed the assignments as a way for us to learn a new skill, rather than replace our passion and ideas.
You weren't petty for being happy to excel where "artistes" struggled. When you said your art was on display, I literally said aloud, "About time!" People deserve recognition for their hard work they put into obtaining skills. Especially children. I'm glad your teacher turned out to be pretty rad.
There’s only two explanations, and honestly it’s probably both. He was a cheapskate wanting to exploit a naive kid, and he was a pedo wanting to exploit a naive kid.
@@mattu-u8159Most creeps don't think ahead at all. Once they're caught they make up the weirdest lamest excuses. One creep trying to get nsfw of of a young teenager used the "I was just trying to give them anatomy practice and money."
To be fair, he reached out to the teacher, not students. It is the art teacher that reached out to her students. But knowing his project and when he found out who relied, he should have ended it there. He is probably an aspiring writer with zero budget trying to move the project but has not artistic talent to move to next phase.
I am glad that your teacher had your back. I went to a half-day trade school for digital art during my junior and senior years of highschool. In my senior year I was branching into making websites (mostly using DreamWeaver, this was when it was owned by microsoft, just before adobe bought it) and so when a local history group reached out wanting a website designed, she came to me asking if I would like the project. Of course I had the same reaction, was excited that this could be my "big break" and began diligently working on a website for these people. Unfortunately they began to get very irate at its simplicity and that I wasn't fully coding the site to the degree they wanted, and had to explain that while I did have basic html knowledge, that this was an ART project and I had originally just been asked to design the layout, buttons, graphics, etc for the site. Well I went down the rabbit hole of making fully functional websites (mind you this was in like, 2004 and there were not a lot of options for slapping a site together like there are now) and trying to do all this work for them despite the fact that I was a highschool art student and they were getting all this for /free/ . Well, it was towards the end of the school year. I got graded on the project despite the fact that I was still working with these history group folks to get their page functional. They more or less began to bully me about it and I decided right then and there to just... cut off ties. Maybe I could have handled it better, but I was 18 and had had enough. I deleted my work from their website host and stopped responding to them. When my teacher asked about it I just deflected and said I wasn't done yet. About a month after I graduated the teacher called me at home about the project saying that they had been reaching out to her since I was non-responsive. I told her flat out that I already got graded for that project, and was not dealing with it any longer. If they wanted to pay me for my work I'd send the existing files over to them (we were each allowed to take home a thumb drive with our school projects) but otherwise they should seek out a professional web designer. She asked if I'd send the files to her directly - I said no. She was very livid with that answer. I later found out that she got paid for another student's restaurant menu design that a local diner had commissioned, and wonder if perhaps she had accepted money for my project without me knowing, which is why she was so determined to get the files.
I love the joke that NSFW = OSHA violations, it's such a clever double entendre/bait-and-switch thing. In fact, it's my favorite bait-and-switch joke alongside the booby bird and tit birds. XD
I have a friend that mostly just shares pics of both those types of birds in our group chat and everyone always jokingly responds things like, "dang it, Gerald, stop, nobody wants to see your boobies anymore" lol
The amount of times I play word games with my family and I put those birds down and my family looks at me, is crazy. I'm ace, people. I don't get why you find the names of birds coinciding with breast nicknames funny.
As someone who works in an environment where "riding a pallet jack is grounds for immediate termination", the OSHA violation opening is hilariously brilliant.
@@YeeYessir-sk9vp i don’t actually know who this person is, it was js a funny cute interaction. jeez, how come you know so much about online dating when you’ve likely never felt the touch of a woman who wasn’t related to you by blood?
i was watching this video while playing minecraft and when you started talking about that your art wasnt that good like other people's art, the most heart breaking piano background music started playing.
I’m gonna draw my characters braking OSHA violations, labelling it NSFW. Without an intent of stealing the idea of course I just really like the idea. Thanks for inspiring me
i would like to say, i (as someone else on the ace spectrum) really extremely love the fact that your comic doesn’t have much romance. romance in any media is a make-or-break thing for me, so having no focus on romance just makes it easier for me to enjoy (also i love frankie, i have latched onto him and need to follow his every move)
8:20 ( don’t mind this, just a timestamp for when I come back to this video, because I want to keep these things in mind if I ever start doing commissions of that kind)
If you’d still like to try your hand at painting, gouache was an absolute game changer for me! I also despise working with watercolors and acrylic but gouache is like somewhere in the middle of the two! It’s essentially opaque watercolor, it goes on super smoothly and you don’t have to worry about all colors changing as they dry like you do acrylic! And it’s not all weird and plastic-y and goopy like acrylics can be, it’s nice and thin like watercolors. It can be a little expensive but I promise it’s worth it!
I always hated art classes. My art is very specific and personal, and I can't really draw what some art teacher tells me to draw. As a result, I almost always failed when I tried out an art course. I'm glad I didn't let that discourage me from sticking with the craft, though, because I quite like how my stuff looks these days. Forcing artists who want nothing to do with certain styles into creating said style for a grade sucks.
I would say learning the basics of anatomy such as where eyes are in relation to ears, nose, lips etc, then developing a style to exaggerate those features while keeping a sort of ratio in mind- learn the rules before you break them type thing!
I agree with the person above! Ive heard many artists say following: First, learn how a face is realistically structured so you can make a believable looking one. Then you can stylize it how you want, and there's lots of room for experimenting if you got the base right!
I only take art more seriously like 3-4 years ago and now I'm 20 I always feel like I'm so left behind and that I should've been able to draw something like the art lords of the internet by now.. good to know that there are people like me who started out pretty late I've been drawing characters since I was 4 and i never thought that drawing was a job that I can consider until i was 16 :'D I used to make a one panel comic in my art books about the randomest things like talking fruits planning a party or rabbits inventing a flying machines.. my imaginations were wild back then lol
Thank you for making this story as funny as possible- that teacher was the real MVP, I hope she did in fact hunt that guy down for sport because the cartoonish visuals it inspired in my mind were A+ and very worthy of a place on the wall. XD Your OSHA violations are also delightful, look at all those unsafe work practices! tsk tsk!
MVP? She put her minor student in contact with some random man that emailed her off the internet. Didn’t check up on the man professionally to make sure he was legit and who’s work was appropriate for children. She didn’t insist on herself and the child’s parents be involved in or at least CC’d on the negotiations for this commission. She had a potentially naïve, inexperienced, extremely excited, teenage girl who she probably knew would do anything to make it in the Industry… and she sent the child unsupervised into business with a random off the internet. Super irresponsible teacher. She’s the Villain of this story and she was probably super pissed because she knew how badly she F’ed up!
I mean, that's also a takeaway you could get from this and I don't fault you for it, it's a legit interpretation someone can have, but I'm not sure you understand how uncharted a frontier early internet was. Nor what kinds of interactions between students and teachers flew then that people would need smelling salts over now. While there would have been people who'd be furious with the teacher for this, just as common if not more so would have been those who would have seen it as perfectly normal.@@lyingcat9022
OF COURSE SHE WAS LIVID ! At this point she asked YOU to contact him instead of standing in between the transaction! She should have been the one dealing with him ! She probably got scared for her job at this point, or at least felt terribly guilty about it ! Also your artstyle is great!! Good job!!
Man, good on the teacher for having your back on this. Big yikes energy from that guy. Personally, I kinda wish I could draw. I was naturally gifted musically, so I was pushed more into that, and this only took one full art class my senior year of high school. I found I was pretty okay at landscape painting stuff - I did a landscape inkwash I was genuinely proud of. Problem is, I can't really draw. I have near-complete aphantasia, so when I try to picture anything closing my eyes, I see literal static or the lsd-moving-shapes thing, often without color. No image. And as an intensively creative person who can do most other creative arts pretty well, it sucks. It also sucked because my art teacher was incredibly unsympathetic and straight-up told me I'd never be cut out for art. So all that to say, it's awesome to see you overcome the struggles of being not-as-good as your peers and doing what you love! I just wish I could switch on the images and/or figure out how to turn figure geometry into a sketch without wanting to break my art supplies.
@@goffie7039 I mean, sure, I know people with the condition can do it. The problem is that I literally cannot go from the basic geonetry phase to the basic sketch phase, every single piece of drawing curriculum is meant for people without aphamtasia, and then artists say "jUsT pRaCtIcE!" when asked for advice. It makes me want to break my drawing tablet, my computer, and scream obscenities. So no, I don't find other artists "inspiring," I find them infuriating and depressing.
After I watched all of your videos I tried watching these art commission stories and watched all of those and then just so happens to be what you make next 🤣
I can't beilive I've stumbled onto this! I read your comic on Tapas whenever it comes out (like today) and I just stumbled onto this video and was thinking "Huh... Those characters look a lot like the ones from that comic" and then you mentioned it! That's so cool
Honestly I relate so hard with the earlier portion of this video. I've found it really hard to feel like I'm good enough in art class. I didn't take the prerequisites because I got randomly switched from college art to another advanced art class, and they just assumed I had the prerequisites for the advanced art class. All year, I've been getting talked down to by my art teacher because of how I didn't take my prerequisites. I'm always getting reprimanded while no one else is. It's genuinely sucked so much passion out of art for me. I've been working on drawing people as a hobby for the last 7 or so years and she just randomly assumed I can't draw people and went on a whole rant about it. I feel like no one gets as much crap from her as I do and I just don't see art as very fun anymore, it's really made me lose my confidence in my ability to draw.
There are so many layers to this situation that were completely avoidable: 1) The guy having common sense and getting in touch with adult professional artists through a publishing company or looking one up online while it may have been the early days of the internet I’m sure it was doable. 2) The guy letting the High School Teacher know what exactly he was expecting their students to draw. 3) The teacher Asking the guy what he was expecting his artist to draw.
saw this and thought 'yeah ill watch this' and then i read the text at the bottom and my first thought was 'omg cool theyre doing castoff fan art... wait *realises* OH' i had no idea you had a youtube channel! ive been reading castoff for a few years now tho
So this is the first video of yours that I've watched. I didn't realize you were the creator of Cast Off! I've been reading it on Tapas and when I saw the first sketch in this video I was like "wait I know those characters!" So cool to see you on youtube too
Pretty cool story I guess. Was moreso focused on the bg drawing the entire time, lmao. UNTIL the Ace flag showed up, which made me, a fellow Ace, very happy!
Man I can totally relate with the High School Art class stories. In my 9th grade art class, I struggled a lot. None of my art came out good at all. I wasn't in to any of the projects. And I suspect that I was actually graded harsher on my art than everyone else, because I was seen by everyone as very artistic. That year I literally won an award for "Most artistic student." It may have felt to the teacher that I wasn't putting my all into my projects. I was, I just sucked at everything we were doing. I didn't have that creative spark. And at that point I was only really good at doodling and coming up with ideas. I passed with an 89.5, which rounded up to a 90%. It's the lowest grade I got in all of high school, and I almost lost my 4.0 GPA due to it. As someone who was very studious and took grades seriously, it was extremely frustrating and demoralizing to know that of all things, ART CLASS was the one class that almost destroyed my perfect grade.
@@makadoodledoo On an unweighted scale, a 4.0 GPA is the highest GPA you can get. It means you got A's in all of your classes. If you get anything lower than an A in a class, your GPA drops below 4.0 and you can't fix it. On a weighted GPA system, you can typically go up to 5.0 (or so the internet tells me). But our school system was unweighted. This is in the United States, btw. Idk how GPAs work in other nations. I did take the class seriously, I was just not good at it. My best effort was not enough to reach the standard placed upon me by my teacher. I will admit that not being into any of the projects likely led to my "best effort" not really being my full best. But it was the best I could muster. And I tried really hard on my final project specifically because I knew my GPA would drop if I didn't do good enough. I remember hitting roadblocks and getting really frustrated, despite the fact I was quite interested in the project. But I guess it was _JUST_ good enough to get me through.
I don't know how your video got recommended to me when nothing I watch is even close to your channel, but I am glad. I've been having a pretty crappy month and hearing your stories and watching your art really has put a smile on my face and gotten me back into drawing! You earned a subscriber and patreon member!
As a young artist; I’ve never done commissions and don’t plan on it for a while but have been asked often if I would any time soon. One day I got a message asking if I was willing to do NSFW art and when I told them I was only 12 (at the time) they said they didn’t realize when i made it very obvious, even stating it in my bio and all my drawings were a lot more fanart based at the time 😅
@@Potatwa_chipzz Oh lord. This is why I wish people would look through an artist's profile to check for age first before asking about NSFW commissions 🤣
@@JewelWildmoon the funny thing is they spam liked all my drawings first and THEN asked if I would do the commission… HOW DID IT JUST SLIP BY 😭😭😭 how do fanart drawings of like anime characters, vocaloids and collabs with other artists who are very obviously underage NOT trigger something in their brain that goes “hey am I sure this person is over 18?”
@@Potatwa_chipzz Fr. I guess if they didn't check the ages of those artists either. It's fine to ask an artist if they're ok with NSFW commissions, but this is why I think it's REALLY important that they check the artist's age first since some of them do accept 😭
I actually got a similarly distasteful commission on upwork, I denied it because the project they wanted me to work on was massive, by my calculation at least 2-3 chapters or around 60 pages yet the person ordering didn't see me to know the process very well. My eyes will never be the same after reading "the plot" tho, yikes.
@@neolordie I don't but if you're curious, it was a WWE fighting fanfiction where a girl and a guy cornered the other girl on the fighting ring, clothes were lost and stuff involving worms, where worms shouldn't be, happened.
What a story ^^" Jeez!! For the QNA: What was the most difficult-to-make comic you've created? Also: I absolutely love the art style!! This comic seems absolutely adorable ♡♡
NO! it is absolutely illegal to ask a minor to draw NSFW. It is illegal to allow a minor to even look at that stuff weather it is IRL or drawn. No. What he did was solicitation of a minor over the internet. I garneted you that teacher reported him because what he did was a federal felony.
This reminds me of me in 7th grade. I used to make comic strips and since it was a new concept for many people in the school, people were intrigued so they'd always hang my comic strips on the notice board and I became ver popular but sadly I left school after a year to homeschool due to some health issues but my art teacher still catches up with me.
Ya ever have one of those moments where you’re thinking of trying something and suddenly the exact thing you need randomly shows up in your feed? That’s me rn with this book add 16:38. I literally had no idea who you were or that you even drew comics until now. How serendipitous!
Love that moment when the art teacher discovers what part of the art spectrum you belong to, we all have a niche and finding that niche is always special when it's allowed to flourish, oof to the attempted child exploitation however. Be interesting to see you try mimic the Tank Girl art style for a one off page though, clearly not your style but I've always found delving into other styles to be a refreshing change of pace every now and then plus it gives you some extra fun to be had from this story, maybe have it be the art teacher hunting him down for sport like you said :b
Your art is so cool. I love your style, and color choices. Back when I was in college, the school got me in contact with some looking for a comic artist. We met, she explained the idea, and I did a few rough sketches she seemed to like. I got an email that she would be out of town a few days. And have never heard from her since. I still have a copy of her script, and that was 16 years ago.
This is why if you want something illegal to be drawn. Draw it yourself /sarcasm. In actuality, Remember drawing is a power and power should be used responsibly
The issue is asking a minor to do the drawing, not the drawing itself. It depends on country, but for the most part/in sane countries, drawings themselves are legally fine as long as they're not of real people. Some of the more extreme "tags" are weird, but missing the harm element that would happen in reality (some tags aren't even possible in reality). Asking someone < 18 to draw 18+ content though...that's less fine, though again depends on country. Gets complex quickly, because you have to factor both laws regarding 18+ stuff but also just plain old labor laws, which can require parental consent etc. I suppose legality of this case depends on exactly what the guy wanted drawn. It might be "technically" okay per law if the act is depicted, but the 18+ part isn't drawn/off-panel for example. Still creepy or at minimum poorly thought out to commission this through a high school though!
2:43 honestly when I was younger and took art in secondary school, the teacher HATED me because I could never draw what she wanted. She wanted me to use paints and do realistic landscapes. All the stuff I couldn’t draw. She also wanted me to draw people and objects even though I was studying animals and tbh, years later, I still kinda am. The amount of times she insulted me work, actively came over and ruined what I was working on and when she said others could reduce the work they had for time reasons, she wouldn’t let me. I’m so glad I’m not taking her class anymore and can draw what I want cuz she was really restricting me and I couldn’t make any improvements. I also almost gave up on art because I didn’t think I was good enough or would ever be good at it
I agree completely. I describe my art as abstract psychedelic unicorn vomit, and art teachers really don't like it. If it doesn't look EXACTLY like real life, then it's "not art," which I think is complete bs. What's the point of making art if you're just copying reality? Is it even art, or just a picture with extra steps? My statement is not meant to undermine the skill involved in realism, just an offering of a different perspective.
Not for nothing, because I completely understand the frustration of not being able to draw things the way you want to draw them. But as someone who has studied art at a pretty famous school, it’s important to know that art skills require a solid foundation, and unfortunately, that means a lot of boring stuff like figure drawing, still lives, and perspective studies. I used to RESENT this, until I realized what an enormous positive impact learning about these things had on the work I did in my own time. A professor once told me that stylized work is fine, and it’s important to find your own unique style - but you have to understand how to draw things realistically in order to break realism and find your niche in a way that feels developed and deliberate, and not just amateur. :) we all have our own journey, and I’m sorry you had such a negative experience with your professor. But I hope you won’t write off courses like this forever because of it!
@@LikeTheProphet oh I did end up teaching myself the basics cuz our teacher never did. We got told very loosely what a colour wheel was and the difference between hot and cold (tho she never really went in deep with it) but that was about it. She then told us to go paint and was annoyed I wasn’t keeping up even though both painting and scenery isn’t what I usually do and always struggle with, even now. She never taught us how to draw anything and just expected us to know which is why she favoured my very toxic friend who was pretty good at drawing people and everything else she wanted us to do in class
I haven’t exactly had any art teacher I hated, but my middle school art teacher was always making fun of the sports kids who were only there because they had to but I remember that I would always take his advice and on one specific clay piece that wasn’t exactly my specialty I would take all his advice and I ended up with an epic stump pencil cup with mushrooms on it
also kinda weird i think that this guy wanted to pitch a comic to publishers and then went looking specifically for a child to draw it. a ton of adults have tried to underpay me for my art because they didn't think i would understand that a full illustration is not worth 5 bucks (my mom once tried that >_>)
Coming from someone who grossly undercharges for his own work ( I sold a 53-hour commission for $150 recently, to give perspective on what i mean by "grossly undercharges" ) wow. Your own mom? That's messed up. A parent should be the most understanding of the value of time out of anyone, considering they sacrificed years of their own time to raise another human being.
Hol up what? As another child sometimes i feel that they’re trying to over pay me because I once got asked if I’d do a sketch in my style for them for 30 bucks and agreed to pay before I started working on it; but had to turn it down because I currently still don’t take commissions 😮
@@v4n1ty92 holy cow you need to push up your prices a little, getting paid 3 dollars every hour for your work is not okay. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" starring Harrison Ford, is one of the more adventurous movies I've ever watched during my youthful years, even during my almost toddler years I watched the movie... It was still a blast, but the end was quite gory, and if you're squeamish you should close your eyes when they start talking about closing them in the movie itself... When you hear the loud thunder crash and echo, then open your eyes. You'd be surprised that you hardly missed a thing, seeing it might give one nightmares watching it. I know I've had some due to the scene. Take care guys.
Not sure how I stumbled across this vid but glad I watched it as I can relate to your experiences with art classes back when I was in school a million years ago, I loved drawing more than anything, still do but never took it to any professional level, and I too had some hard ass teachers, though also supportive ones. My issue was my poor writing ability that lead me to struggle with course work. This was back in 01/02 in the UK, not a school particularly interested in art instead of sports too, so even though I did do some good work, nothing really got much notice. I got the chance to work at my old school as an art and design technician (name is fancier than the work) about 15 years ago and work with one of the teachers I hated as a kid, which made me realise just how much she cared for the students and how much work she did for them. I gained a huge heap of respect for her that I'll never forget. Your teacher should have known better than to put you in a situation where you might have been exploited but I'm so glad she had your back when she realised what was up, she must have been mortified that she could have been complicate in that without even realising. However, it's good to know she was thinking of you when she thought a good opportunity had come along for you, and I hope whoever the would be comic writer realised that was a terrible move on their part.
I added your webcomic to my collection of webcomics to read, sorry to hear that you went through that, I can only imagine this guy is now on a watch list and probably restricted from being anywhere near a High school let alone being able to contact one. OSHA violations truly are not safe for work
I've always thought that Not Safe For Work was kind of a weird euphemism for "naughty stuff", so I found it very amusing.

You have no idea, *_how_* heavily I relate 😭
Thank goodness my basic art classes in college focused purely on fundamentals and techniques in oil painting and printmaking.
But really, if it is too easy to get on the wall, it won’t be as gratifying when it happens. Kids are not going to valve participation awards.
And the art teacher is pretty irresponsible - not finding out the details of the project and passing the contact to the student. Not rad, bad!

As a safety professional I love the NOT SAFE FOR WORK idea. That's awesome twist on expectations.

Q: Whats a good tip for drawing cartoony but realistic faces?
I would say learning the basics of anatomy such as where eyes are in relation to ears, nose, lips etc, then developing a style to exaggerate those features while keeping a sort of ratio in mind- learn the rules before you break them type thing!
I agree with the person above! Ive heard many artists say following:
First, learn how a face is realistically structured so you can make a believable looking one. Then you can stylize it how you want, and there's lots of room for experimenting if you got the base right!

I've been drawing characters since I was 4 and i never thought that drawing was a job that I can consider until i was 16 :'D I used to make a one panel comic in my art books about the randomest things like talking fruits planning a party or rabbits inventing a flying machines.. my imaginations were wild back then lol
@Wren I’m saying I might, this art style is super close to what I was thinking. Also, I will do an interview to get other stuff looked at.
I don't know anyone who wouldn't jump at a sweet sounding deal like the project at 16. The comic your drawing are hilarious.
There are so many layers to this situation that were completely avoidable:
1) The guy having common sense and getting in touch with adult professional artists through a publishing company or looking one up online while it may have been the early days of the internet I’m sure it was doable.
2) The guy letting the High School Teacher know what exactly he was expecting their students to draw.
3) The teacher Asking the guy what he was expecting his artist to draw.

That year I literally won an award for "Most artistic student."
It may have felt to the teacher that I wasn't putting my all into my projects.

You are so absolutely wholesome I'm happy the world didn't take that away from you your a resource that should be protected at all cost. Take my sub
Questions for the Q&A, about what age did you realize your passion for drawing comics?
I really like the art style of the art in the background. Very good!
My statement is not meant to undermine the skill involved in realism, just an offering of a different perspective.
burn her
Not for nothing, because I completely understand the frustration of not being able to draw things the way you want to draw them.
I haven’t exactly had any art teacher I hated, but my middle school art teacher was always making fun of the sports kids who were only there because they had to but I remember that I would always take his advice and on one specific clay piece that wasn’t exactly my specialty I would take all his advice and I ended up with an epic stump pencil cup with mushrooms on it
literally just saw this channel today and im in love
also kinda weird i think that this guy wanted to pitch a comic to publishers and then went looking specifically for a child to draw it. a ton of adults have tried to underpay me for my art because they didn't think i would understand that a full illustration is not worth 5 bucks (my mom once tried that >_>)
Coming from someone who grossly undercharges for his own work ( I sold a 53-hour commission for $150 recently, to give perspective on what i mean by "grossly undercharges" ) wow.
If you’re willing to put in 50 hours of your time I’m sure your art is worth a lot more than that. You need to advocate for yourself because no one else will, you deserve alot more for your time and dedication. Also nice username it’s similair to one I have :)))
They are so gonna be written up for this...
I know personally i was like you in High school always drawing and sketching... ya know.. instead of doing my schoolwork >.> * coughs* Buuuuut unlike you i never really focused myself on starting my own webcomic beyond daydreaming and plot lining in my head how the story would go.
wish i could get that forklift sticker, would be great to have a few of those, sad they aren't available for purchase right now
Ah, Zera, sleep deprived in any setting ^^
13:12 manages to emulate the same feeling of rage as Bill Cipher saying “You! You can’t even imagine what you just caused!”
How do you come up with ideas for new merch all the time?
Your style is lovely! This was the extra push I needed to get started on a small webcomic of my own. Tyvm 😄👌

AHHHH! I just read the first chapter if your web comic and I LOVE IT!!!! definitely going to read more.
How much time does it usually take for you to draw and complete a full comic page?
Underrated channel ! I love this style of story telling.

The “petty” part isn’t true. You’re not petty, you’re just proud to know know that you’re able to show everyone that you have a true talent in something.
13:40 thats a good teacher to have actually follow up and tell you to cut it
