As someone who is an eh artist, I also hope I can just make things that don't get bullied just because they look slightly off by people who don't even draw
the fact that beginners, who are just trying to have fun and be in a community, have to worry about being bullied constantly is so stupid and pure ignorance from others
There's a pretty nice community I'm part of (Scratch), and there's a clearly very young writer there who hasn't see the worst of the world, so I'm just doing my best to encourage them and help them get better at writing. They recently shared a little snippet of them singing along with "don't bully me" in the title, and I don't think that it was because they've been bullied in the past (I think they might've just been suffering from 'I just heard a recording of my voice and I am ripping out my hair now' syndrome), but I took the time to write out a positive comment just to try and help them along in their journey. :)
We should start a trend to encourage artists to draw the things they wanted to draw in the past but didn't out of fear of being labeled as cringe. Bring back the Sonic OC's! The sparkle dogs! The ponyfications!!
@@PWNDON Hey~ I'm just a stranger on the Internet but, even though I've never been into FNAF, I bet you have some great memories that include it and that's great. I'm glad you had something you loved that much💕
I also believe "cringe culture" is the reason why western video games, comics, and other entertainment is on life support. They're not appealing to "Modern audiences", they're appealing to a group that essentially says "If you don't like the same mainstream, trendy things I do, you don't deserve ANY respect."
This also reminds me of that *UGH* Velma show when "velma" was asked what 420 is and she replied Grown adults watching kids cartoons. The moment I heard that line, I could not help the feeling that show was made BY cringe culture.
Car community: *INTENSE TYPING* "Ooh, you're just jealous and tasteless. Get a better taste next time or I will call the police" Cringe Culture army in the car community is too many. They're just fighting about car builds and itashas (anime character on cars) all day
Oh yes, autistic is a really popular swear. And personally, as an autistic person myself, I hate it. There's nothing wrong with having autism, ADHD, etc. You can't control how your brain works or what you're born with.
Yeah, as an autistic person the use of it as an insult has always bothered me. It's not even stopped, it's becoming more and more common as a replacement for the r-slur. That wasn't acceptable anymore so now people resort to using autistic. I've never even been on the receiving end of it, but I feel attacked when I see other people get called it as an insult. I'm pretty sure some games/apps like twitch have completely censored the word autistic just for the popularity it had as an insult, and it disappoints me.
no bcz my brother call s me autistic as an insult when he literally pisses the bed like talk to me when you learn to pee in toilets why am i so rude omg
A situation that really encompasses the harm cringe culture brings is the Croaket_ drama. They legit got death threats and rumors spread about them simply because they had the utter audacity to post a “cringe” drawing to tiktok.
one of the arguments between justifying bullying croaket's art is "croaket was racist!" well yes, croaket may have been racist but you guys would've still bullied them even without them being racist. and what happened to seperate art from artist?
yes it was them, people started bullying them because of their inaccurate anatomy. basically the "rendering process" they were bullied way a lot even before they got outted as racist (specifically they said the n word) and i am not defending them for it but people using it as an excuse to bully their art and i find that quite wrong because of "seperate art from artist)
@@VirgoLeaf did we forget Ai taking all our jobs And Warner bros shutting down half their animation library form streaming Animation and art is getting shit on right now And alot of people who aren’t part of the art culture don’t care if Ai or Animated shows get canceled cause they don’t see value in animation or art (And these are people who want to be musicians and creators which baffles me) and part of me is waiting eagerly for Ai music to become big and their dreams to be crushed just as hard
@@WGasmss do you think that current/future artists then should stop creating? that would let these stuff win more if we do art created by humans (aka REAL art) will die if we let it die, and it’s not only stupid ppl using AI to "make art" or companies shutting animated projects down that will cause it, but also people like YOU who discourages current and future artists to create more yes, i doubt that art created by AI will disappear in the future and that current companies are destroying animated projects, but that doesn’t mean that today’s artists should then stop creating now what? does that mean that the commenter here then should not start learning animation if they want to because of AI? No, because if we discourage more and more artist to make art (as a hobby or career) then yeah, AI stuff will take over more, and you are part of these people doing that because even if you’re against AI, you are still actively trying to make us give up on making art
Finally, someone is talking about how cringe culture is harmful to artists and even just people who enjoy specific things. Thank you for making this commentary. I think it can help a lot of people who were contributing to cringe culture without even realizing it Also, eyes changing color depending on emotions was a thing?! Seems like you really do learn more every day!
My main oc has her eye color change between yellow and purple because I couldn't decide which color I wanted to use lol. I never knew people thought that was cringe until I watched this because you can see popular characters with changing eye colors all the time. (Usually from their normal color to red)
@@Rosenwood1 oooh nice! I didn't know what eye colors to make my oc so I gave them one one color each eye. I did change that at some point not because "it was cringe"' tho since I didn't even know it was lol I also didn't know MLP, Sonic and furries were seen as cringe in the art community since I find those styles to be so complicated that I'm always impressed when seeing them
It’s such a shame that people are being mocked for their art styles. Not only in relation to just beginning artists either. Take my younger sister for example. Her art style is one of the most unique ones I’ve come across. She doesn’t ever draw eyes for her characters. She’ll give them mouths, noses, ears, fingers and all the other things artists typically struggle with, but she intentionally leaves out eyes. She can draw eyes, she just prefers not to. While I think this is a very cool and uncommon stylistic choice, other people who see her draw tend to pick on her about it. Like, come on guys. Can people not even have uniqueness in their art? Which, I can’t possibly stress enough, is completely subjective. In short, mocking somebody’s unique art style is dumb and also bad
Oh hey, your sister's artstyle reminds me of some animators on youtube! TheAMaazing dosent draw their eyes either, and Let Me Explain Studios dosent draw mouths. Goes to show even if you dont draw something (like eyes), that wouldn't hinder someones ability to make cool drawings :D (and even full on animations!!) Her artstyle is great no matter what
Omission is not unique. Especially not omission of the eyes. What's most likely happening to your sister is people experienceing the uncany valley and, being ill-equipped to verbalize their disturbance. "The eyes are the window to the soul". Take away the window and all people have is fear and contempt. Hence why it is a stylistic choice commonly associated with HORROR artists.
@@jordanmatthews1466 I find that (it depends on artstyle ofc) that eyes are prob the thing you need the most to escape the uncanny vally, as [ : ] is a much more acepted facal expresion then [ >) ]
I am disabled and made Gacha content. I started to recover from years of ableist treatment that made me hate everyone and myself, then the term “Gachatard” became popular, and I didn’t get to be comfortable with myself as a disabled person OR comfortable with my first healthy coping mechanism for said self hatred anymore. A disabled child with a heart of hate and no way to let it out. Sounds dramatic, sounds cringey, imagine living it. I multiple times had to go through my content and remove videos that were extra ‘cringe’ so I didn’t get hacked. Not fucking cute, internet, thats absolutely disgusting. On a higher note, my old art is incredible as it stood at the time, adorable as a more experienced artist watching someone else just enjoy themselves and celebrate themselves, and inspiring as a step in my progress to where I am today.
fr! the real cringe is cringe culture itself. like way to tell us you're afraid to be and express yourself freely. I'd completely sympathize if they didn't attempt to bring others down over it!
@@Awesomespade3 FR, most behaviors people call "cringe" are just signs of being neurodivergent. Im autistic and i've learned to just be myself, and if others don't like it, they dont have to XPPP

The second episode wasnt making fun of him for being gay, it was about homophobia in the industry and the fear mongering around gay people. When thugnificent hides from him when he learns hes gay its not a joke on him being gay, its a satire on the measures hes going to not be labeled as gay. Im a bi guy and i wanna be apart of the fandom but when half of it alienates me from it it drives me away. Theres abeilism too but not as bad as the himophobia, in one of the episodes riley plays basketball and loses to a kid woth autism because he heard he had autism and underestimated him and got rmbarrased by it because he was doing it for presentation. The joke wasnt that he was autistic, it was riley being a dumbass. Its a show that tackles struggles from marginalized communities, mainly the black community. I dont understand how these fans exist
I grew up entirely on cringe culture, do you know what a little 11 year old neurodivergent me grew up to? A perfectionist, a museum artist, a realism drawing machine making only the things that were socially acceptable and "pretty" I never got to make fanart of my special interests (and I'm still too scared to post it) I lost my childhood to fear of not confirming to norms, hell I was even afraid to draw animals because someone might call it "furry art" I am sad to think how many more of my art peers had the same experiences I'm a scene, therian, anime loving, furry, lgbtq, cartoon enthusiast, neurodivergent artist and I am so fucking happy I woke up one day with the guts to just say it how it is, I'm tired of the realism, I'm tired of the painting, I'm tired of saying I don't like Sonic and MLP and watching cartoons etc. I love simple cartoon styles and really bright colours and inserting my rainbow barf characters into the things I like and if people don't like that fuck them, I am choosing to be happy, I am choosing to be myself and I'm glad I'm surrounded by a small community of such amazing and supportive people who love what I make And I've been bullied, oh I've been bullied so much even if it was just a regular human character with slightly bright colours it was mocked and it made younger me sit in a corner and cry because I tried doing something different, I don't think that a 9 year old should be crying at their desk, sobbing, on the verge of vomit because people tell them that they are cringe, that they should d1e, that their art is garbage and that nobody loves them because they drew something badly art is supposed to be an escape form reality and something comforting (especially to literal children)
FINALLY!!! I can’t be the only one who absolutely DESPISE cringe culture. It sours the mood and make everything annoying! They went like “oh, don’t be afraid to show your art!” And when a beginner artist show their art, these people immediately bully the artist without giving actual criticism. This happens a lot when I used to be active on tiktok. Basically, they bully a beginner artist and proceed to make a rumor about the artist being problematic somehow in order to justify their actions and get more people to bully the artist with them. These people also thinks they are smart, when getting called out their either say “you can’t take a joke” or “haha snowflakes ❄️ “ or “I’m just giving constructive criticism 🥺” like UGH I hate them so much. They even make a whole azz board dedicated to mocking and wishing death to those they deem as “cringe”. All while preaching “no bullying pls” or “mental health is important”
cancel culture pulls the same stuff. they’re constantly trying to justify their harassment to make themselves seem more ‘correct’ at the cost of all other logic. the amount of people i’ve seen get super defensive if i point out something false they said is just so unreal. they can’t possibly be wrong for the sake of their egos so if you disagree they’ll just use their aggressive hivemind to act like YOU’RE the bad person.
Yeah, disliking someone's art style is okay. Just don't bully them for it and keep your opinion for themselves. You can give tips if you want, and if the other wants it (!). (Please don't give critisizm if the other doesn't want it. That can feel as an attack if you do art just for fun)
@@kittcore8917i like how most of the comments dont realize how somehow beginner artists will literally ask for an opinion and when you tell them that their art is shit and ask questions they get mad and start insulting you
I'm so glad more people are drawing the connection between cringe culture/bullying and ableism. I think that neurodivergence is often invisible to others, so it makes people feel like they can make fun of others with a clear conscience that it's not inherently charged by bigotry. Ableism or not, no one should be made fun of just because their behaviors don't fit social norms, but I do feel pretty salty when people think they have the moral high-ground for supposedly not bullying someone over identity. Neurodivergent people end up an unconscious target of bullying and mockery because no one wants to believe their actions are influenced by discriminatory views.
@@zenmaster8086 From a neurodivergent person, neurodivergent basically means that the brain doesn’t work how it does for neurotypical people :) Google explanation: differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical. Also, creator of the original comment, love this comment! :)
Fun fact did you know furry spaces have always largely been safe for queer and neurodivergent folks? Interesting how much they have been a target for hate when taking that into consideration. I don’t consider myself as a furry because i mostly enjoy quadruple animals (especially cats and dragons) but i will defend them to the end of the earth, and i could be very easily be read as one. A lot of my interests could be read as “cringe” such as wings of fire, furbies, warrior cats and undertale/deltarune. Luckily i have never been a target of hate but cringe culture is seriously the worst Edit- i am a furry now enjoy past me being in denial haha
@@Vince_c.3 ooooo hello my people !! I’m honestly really obsessed with Deltarune right now for some reason Okay now that that’s over with.. here’s a random infodump-y wall of text if you’re bored: Who are your favorite characters? Mine are basically all of them but if I were to really narrow it down it would probably have to be Jevil, Seam, and Lancer I think. And is it just me or did the fandom really leave Lancer behind after chapter 1? There’s so much talk about Jevil being somewhat forgotten after Spamton came around but I think he’s really not from what I’ve seen, and probably still one of the most popular characters in the game. And Jevil’s page on the DR wiki is always on top of trending Ok sorry for writing so much I’m gonna quit now lol But I hope we get to see Lancer a lot more in later chapters (Jevil & Seam too! and I hope we get to battle that old cat someday)
I actually used to draw anthro characters all the time. I had like at least 50 characters I would draw all the time and I really enjoyed doing it. Over time, out of fear that’d I’d be harassed I just stopped drawing them all together. Even though it has helped me improve on drawing other things, like people, it’s still sad that I felt the need to stop just to conform to society so I wouldn’t be seen as “cringe.”
I also used to draw anthro characters. They are fun to draw and I would draw them but I learned that I prefer more animalistic characters. I hate that people can’t draw what they want. And I am nervous to put my art online simply because I am absolutely clueless when it comes to social norms
funny, I cant seem to be allowed to draw anything anthro animal, or im a "Furry" (Not against them, but it annoys the hell out of me that I cant draw something without being called one)
smthin to keep in mind is how “cringe” is often literally just kids, queer people, and ND people and their interests, its insane how much bigotry is in those cringe comps
i was shamefully part of the whole cringe culture thing and i can say that for many, cringe culture is one of the first steps towards going down the alt right pipeline. the bigotry really isn’t surprising if you put it this way edit: i left that part of me behind long ago and even like a lot of the things i used to consider “plagues on society”
Woah! You're 25?! From how mature and professional your voice is and the manner of speaking you constantly present yourself. I ledgit thought you were at least 28 or in mid 30s. (Saying it in the sense of a complement for how well presented it's how a professor/teacher would talk like.)
Thanks for mentioning this! Too many of my interests are known for cringe and it’s upsetting me that it made me think that I wasn’t “cringe” for not being that “extreme” about my special interests. I just wish we could live in a world where it isn’t cringe to draw cheesy, or extremely passionate art (heck, even NSFW art, since art is art regardless).
@RavennaTheSpaceBirdDoctor Like, when it comes to furries modern society treats us like the LGBT community back in the 50’s. It’s shamefull and discusting.
@@SplicedBeast I am very serious and real with my claim. Online the furry hate is very much real. Judging by your reaction, you’re either not a furry, or blissfully unaware/inexperienced with it. I hope all will stay as peachy for you regardless tho.
I’m in the gacha community, I joined years ago before it was even close to being a huge community. I’ve only stayed in this community for 3 reasons, 1 I find the artstyle cute 2 it’s easy to make ocs in and 3 I’m nostalgic about it. The gacha community introduced me into ocs and drawing. But the thing about being in this community for approximately 5 years now is that I don’t just make neon characters and make stereotypical stories anymore, because I’ve improved over time. Gacha is basically just a base for me to use because I fully animate and draw parts of my ocs on my own. Because of the stigma around this community I would literally die before tell people I know in real life I’m in this community. I once commented on a random video and I was flooded with people mocking me about my gacha pfp (which literally wasn’t even gacha at the time it was just a random chibi character lmao) Anyway, in conclusion people need to chill the hell out

I used to be apart of the gacha fanf community and the amount of people who called what I did cringey made me stop. It’s really sad how people like to control what others do, I was just a kid having fun and people were so rude to me to the extent that I had to delete my channel

lmaoo the amount of gacha fnaf videos i've watched where the uploader has to warn that it's their au is hilarious. whats annoying instead of hilarious is that 90% of gacha fnaf youtubers use terms like "oc" when describing characters that they didn't create. confuses me everytime.
As a big enjoyer of self inserts, self ships, and OCxCanon, I remember back when I used to be terrified of posting anything I'd drawn for them because it was cringe and I'd seen so many people get made fun of for it. I've gotten old enough to not care if people think I'm cringe for the things I draw anymore, and I want to try to support anyone else drawing 'cringe' because if it makes someone happy and it's not illegal or whatever then they should be able to make that stuff.
I'm autistic!! Got harassed bc my expression of my interests is "cringe" when I was younger - so dumb that it's returning. Cringe culture is far more cringe than pretty much anything labeled cringe.
I have to say, I really like your content. I don’t see too many commentary channels do many art related topics, let alone some of the more unique and lesser none topics such as why some things are depicted as cringy in the art community. I really like your work and hope you grow more in popularity
And this is why I dont have Tik Tok, its a snake pit I have no time for. My stupid hyper fixation makes me happy, my cringy OCs make me happy... and happiness is hard to come by as a miserable adult with a falling apart life
Because of your last statement, it really hurts to see you say "stupid" and "cringy" about yourself. If what others may call "stupid" and "cringy" help you get through life, why in the [annoyed-sounding celeste chord, in lieu of various cuss words!] should "they" have any right to criticize you? My life is somewhat less fally-aparty, and I'm mostly okay most of the time - but that's in significant part to my collection of cuddly and huggable stuffed animals, whom I occasionally hug and pat their heads in public when I happen to have one or two with me, especially in moments where I am not OK. Especially about your OC, having written some fanfic myself, in a show universe where it's very easy, and necessary, to have OC's (police procedurals, where the established characters must solve the "crime of the week", and suspects, victims, witnesses, and all sorts of NPC-types wander through, always have this opportunity), I can say that even when an OC is inserted as one of these "characters" of the episode, with the slight possibility that the OC may have a part to play in a story arc of several episodes, but not as a permanent member of the cast/universe, one gets criticism anyway, if not for any of the excuses listed in this video, well, just because! So all I can say is, when you get this [angry celeste chord!], find your own version of a song (or, if you're like me, a playlist!) that tells "them!" to go to hell, go directly to hell, do not pass "Go", do not collect $200!, and turn it up to 11 and jam! (May I suggest Prince's "Let's Go Crazy"?) 😊
I remember when I was younger, I had joined an art community and got laughed at for being cringe because of being a beginner. Yes, my feelings were destroyed at the time, but there was one artist there that actually gave me encouragement and help to get better. Years passed, and I practiced, and work my arse off. Came back to the art community that had bullied me, decided 'screw it' and posted it. Got complimented and praised, commission requests, ect. I replied with my original post from years ago and revealed I was the artist they mocked and bullied who they were now praising and wanting commissions from, ect. Needless to say this group was shut down shortly afterwards due to the wake up call. Haha
That probably felt super good, knowing that finally they realized how bad they were and proving how ridiculous cringe culture is! I'm glad you came back there and ended it all.
@ashie yep! The full image was colored traditionally. =D It was colored using markers, with the linework done with colored pencils. (Edit: I use this pfp on other sites and get asked often what program I use. Lol)
@@sidepaiThat's amazing, I definitely would've thought it was digital! I've never been great with markers, I'm forever impressed by people who can use them so smoothly💕
@sourgreendolly7685 it's all about practice, patience, and not rushing it at all. The full image took 40+ hours over 2 weeks to color. Just used yellow to mark where my light sources were hitting the character, and then worked from dark to light with my markers. I also kept a scrap piece of paper, the same kind as what the image was on, and did practice blends for smooth transitions or to see if the shading 'popped' enough. Like the hat in my pfp. Marked the area hit by my light source with my lightest yellow i could clearly see, then used C9 in the area away from the moon on the hat, followed by C7. Then, at this point, I swapped to W5 cuz the hat's 'black' is getting warmer due to the yellow light of the moon. Followed by W3, and finally, Y11 over the areas I marked with the lighter yellow earlier. Just remember practice and patience. And if you're getting frustrated, walk away and take a break. You'll get markers if you keep at it. I REALLY sucked at markers when I first started using them, too. I feel like it's a right of passage, haha.
Hello, I'm a 40yo artist who's been drawing since 7. Although the term "Cringe Art" is new the sentimentality of it can be traced. The Value of Art in American society has always been an interesting study when you compare it to how other industries around the world learned from it built their own. Even sense targeting advertising found ways to sell children's toys with Cartoons, the national look at drawing cartoons was seen as cringe and childish. Since then, artist have been trying to built a more mature demographic by telling more compelling stories, characters and styles. I call this the "For Entertainment" movement. Fan Artist make easy cringe targets because you can't fully monetize it and it often plays into "Self enjoyment/fulfillment" rather then appealing to entertain others. With the worst sides of it devolving into pure fetish material. This has set the standard that drawing mature content to any style that looks like its targeted towards children as creepy and cringe. Further reinforcement of these standards is the lack in quality storytelling told using these styles. The For Entertainment movement has alot of momentum due to seeing how profitable the Japanese animation/manga industry is. You might wonder why would you want to create profitable entertainment? because artist and animators want to make a living doing that work and there needs to be a demand for your services at a rate you can pay bills. Most beginner artist don't understand that battle and just want to work on their style by drawing what they like. Personally i feel like what the domestic market is lacking is properly established demographic labeling like the japanese market. Regardless of what style its drawn in, you can tell its target demo by the genre labels and maturity rating. Sorry if this is long but i didn't expect to be drawn into this topic, so i'm saying all this before i forget.
Every time I hear about cringe art drama, I just think about this time I watched somebody draw a "stereotypical cringe mary sue oc", but it was just the most badass design with the coolest backstory I'd ever heard. I kept waiting for the cringe part to happen. My soul left my body when I realized the video was almost over and this character that I was already super hyped for was just supposed to be "inherently cringe".
To quote a favorite post of mine, "it's not even cringe; it's just personal and unpolished and you've been taught to flinch away from vulnerability which doesn't mock itself"
Oh my goodness THANK YOU for mentioning how cringe culture is essentially just a way to mock neurodivergent individuals! As someone who is on the spectrum and suffers from adhd, I understand having special interests, and I do all the time! I'm so so happy that someone else agrees about that aspect
I LOVE MAKING CRINGE OCS, istg its so fun, would highly recommend. theres something about just drawing a character that 's like, part wolf, part dragon, part demon, part angel, princess that is just so so so fun. extra points if they have a galaxy, rainbow or scene/emo color palette/ style!!!
I have two hybrid ocs, one is half squid and the other is half demon (the latter one is inspired by the fiends from chainsaw man) I love them to bits lol
I remember when I was around 11-12 years old, I would draw my own powerpuff girls ocs and post them online. One day I was notified that my art had been put into a RUclips video without my consent. It was a cringe compilation. What's worse is that a youtuber I looked up to had commented on the video praising the person who made the compilation. This made me delete most of my ppg art. Though it did push me to try a different style, it still caused me to be destructive towards my own art.
Aww, I'm so sorry. It's terrible that you experienced that at such a vulnerable age. That's something that changes a person forever, let alone a young child :( This comment hit pretty close to home because I drew ppg ocs too and uploaded a video slideshow of them online ages ago. Had I done that today at 7 years old, I would have been in the same spot as you. I'm hurting for you and the other people humiliated and bullied by cringe compilations💔 I wish you the very best in your ongoing journey as an artist. Although I may not fully understand your pain, it really sucks to be against yourself because of influences outside of your control. Whether it be mental health or unnecessary stress from events like that. I hope you're doing much better nowadays Sorry for the long comment. Knowing somebody else drew ppg ocs, too, made me feel more sentimental than usual
as someone with ADHD, had the biggest gacha phase mixed with a life long undertale hyperfixation, this is just..yes. I ended up losing interest in all of those things that made my life like...10000x time better. Because of what? CRINGE CULTURE! so this is a big yes.

Trust me it’s so hard having a special interest on fortnite lore I have faced all this hate. Fortnite an already game that is considered “cringe” that you play. But me having a special interest on it and making fanart and headcanons makes me a major target for ridicule. Thank you for talking about this.
as an artist that has somehow managed to avoid the cringe wave, it’s kinda shocking how much of this seems to be happening to young artists usually when i aim my cringe gun at someone, it’s probably some old grump who speaks in snob-talk or drops author tracts in their webcomic (or loud house related-stuff, but that show’s an entire can of worms honestly)
EXCELLENT video! Back in 2013, I (a not-yet diagnosed autistic teen girl) had a special interest in MLP and Equestria Girls. I shared SO much of my fan art on Deviantart. But I got a LOT of hate comments because Equestria Girls was considered "cringe" back when the first movie came out and I was a beginner artist at that time. I even found almost my ENTIRE deivantart gallery reposted onto derpibooru (a mlp image board) with people making fun of them behind my back. It was discouraging! That was already exactly a decade ago. But now as an adult, I still draw plenty of ponies, Equestria Girls, OCs and art for whatever other special interests I may have! And if anyone thinks it's "cringy"? That's THEIR problem, not mine💖
I enjoyed watching cringe compilations when they were in their peak. I use to find it funny when people would do weird or embarrassing things. But after awhile I realized that I started feeling sympathy and relating more with those people. I think a quote from ATLA sums up the mentality best. "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source. True humility is the only antidote to shame.” -Iroh Do you find "cringy" people's actions distasteful or harmful? Or do you look down on them because you'd be ashamed if you were to the same?
10:21 when people automatically assume all gacha life/club artists are gacha heaters… I was in the Sonic fandom when I was 11 too, why do I always chose fandoms that are considered cringe by “normal” internet users???
Because you follow your interests instead of molding them to what's popular. That's a good thing no matter how many people pretend it isn't. Never let these bullies dictate what you like, how you express yourself, or who you are. They're just mad that you're not herding yourself into "normality" like they do, that upset that you actually made a choice instead of following the crowd. Nothing it cooler than not letting people control your harmless interests imo
I remember getting dragged into a group that had big cringe culture vibes back in cringe culture's first wave and, to be frank, it was *horrible*. An all-around horrible experience where I was surrounded by mean-spirited people who I was terrified to be my true self around for fear of being their next target so I never felt like I fit in with them at all but I stayed anyway just so I could fly under their radar. I remember not really making much art anymore at the time either, again I was too scared to express myself. During that time I only stuck to one person in that entire group because he already knew what I was like but I felt shunned by everyone else even when they were friendly towards me. That pressure anyone feels if they get embroiled with cringe culture is real and it is damaging! When that group fell apart I felt liberated, returned to making art and found true friends but I still carry a scar from that time. I can't stand destructive things because that's really all cringe culture is: Destruction just for the sake of destruction. If any cringe lord tells you "They're just trying to give criticism", no they are not! Nobody ever improves from being in a cringe comp, they just stop, a premature end to what could have been.
i really wish i had heard this sooner, i wouldn't have ridiculed and insulted my own monster high doll as a kid and pretended like i didnt care about sonic and hated kids shows and hide my art from everyone if someone had told me all this. Thank you for telling me now, though, as well as so many others. this video almost made me cry /pos- i really hope someone else who needed to hear this did =)
It reminds me of Impressionism centuries ago. Their art didn’t fit the standard, but they did it anyway. Now we have insanely well known impressionist and post -impressionist artists like Monet, Matisse, Van Gogh, and Picasso
I’m so glad this is being talked about. As the quite infamous quote says, “Don’t kill the part of you that’s cringe, kill the part of you that cringes.” Like, there’s nothing wrong in what you like. You have to remember that a lot of bad that comes from a fandom is a loud minority. There are exceptions of course, but that doesn’t change the fact that an overwhelming majority are just people liking things, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
before watching the vid so it might be off-topic to the video: i get genuinely sad whenever i see videos upon videos of people going onto DA and specifically looking for beginner artists to mock and make fun of. it's even worse because it's a website where beginner artists *specifically* should feel free from ridicule or shame for not immediately being the best at art. i remember when i just began, youtubers like SolarSand forced me off DA because i was so scared of ending up in one of those videos. i really don't understand the point of people doing that, it's so needlessly cruel
I am a furry, anime, and general goofy artist. I feel like this is a good reminder that ANATOMY IS NOT REQUIRED FOR GOOD ART!! For example, Cuphead, Spinel from Steven Universe, and BATIM are based in Rubber Hose art style which has very limited anatomy restrictions. I draw anthro animals since I love drawing expressions and experimenting on seeing how an animal would look smiling, crying, laughing, and etc and that’s how I got into the fandom (which is very nice btw). my favorite “branching” art style I have from my own is where I draw characters as head stuck on little cones and bouncing around or with exaggerated expressions. All said and done, art is not about creating a perfect thing right away, senior artists have a responsibility in helping smaller artists grow and work themselves into better artists! Don’t let reality stop you! The point of art is IMAGINATION!! You like a fictional character? Draw how they would interact with your character! And don’t go after the sparkle dogs and overpowered OCs! If you let the creator be then usually those characters deemed as “cringe” can grow and develop with the artist into really amazing things! A cool example is C.S Lewis was criticized for his drafts of Narnia (yeah Lion, Witch, Wardrobe and all), but with some encouragement from others the book was completed and published and I think you might know the rest! (This is a very butchered version of the story I’m very sorry 😅) In short, don’t let other people’s standards hold you back from being yourself! “GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!!” -All Might
This video is so true. Genuinely. As someone on-the-spectrum, growing up in the 2010's with things like Sonic and My Little Pony made cringe culture downright traumatic.
I'm cringe but I'm free 😌✨ Don't let ANYONE tell you what you can and cannot like and what you can and cannot draw. As long as you're not hurting anyone (including yourself). It's what makes life more colorful and enjoyable! Don't limit yourself because of your age, gender and the societal idea of what's acceptable and what isn't. Live the life YOU love and embrace what brings you joy and fulfilment! I hope you all have a lovely day! 🥰
People who are not even part of a fandom are being labeled. I can not even draw a stylized animal (standing on 4 paws) without being called a furry. Happens online, at my art college, and even at my art job.
I’m autistic. I used to have a massive special interest in MLP. As a kid (8-13) I was bullied, made fun of, laughed at, mocked etc for liking my little pony. I was cringe, stupid, childish and dumb for drawing the characters from it and the ones I made. By the end of seventh grade I couldn’t bring myself to even watch the show anymore. And I stopped drawing it way before then. After that, I had Interests in Steven Universe and Sander Sides, and I was picked on for those too. Those experiences have stuck with me for so long. Some of my recent fixations and interests have been on Sonic and also TMNT, and even though I’m more comfortable being myself, those experiences from before stick with my and sometimes it’s still really hard to share what I like
I'm a neurodivergent artist and the only way I can feel happy is by connecting with my special interests or 'obsessions' through art. For some of us, our special interest become the center of out life and often help us cope with every day things that we may struggle with more than the typical person (Sometimes I have breakdowns over change in my house or plans). I've been thankful not to run into any people online who look down on certain interests and things, but I can't even imagine how discouraging it would be and how harmful. The worst thing is, some people end up associating that special interest with a time they were bullied or put down, ruining that particular thing for them and in turn taking a toll on their mental health.
Theres a saying that I go by, and that is "Who cares what someone likes, as long as they're not hurting anyone, and it makes them happy. I think people really need to learn to respect others for liking weird things..." People rlly need to embrace that fact they they r weird in their own way and respect others for being weird as well
I once had a friend on dA that was bullied off the internet because of cringe culture assholes. And I haven't seen or heard from her in years. I hope she's ok. :(
I like sonic and i like to watch gameplay and series like the recent sonic prime is pretty epic Shadow is my favorite because in sone way i relate to him and i like his looks
Cause Unfortunately the Sonic fandom has birth some unfavorable stuff like the oversaturation of Sonic ocs, ridiculous shipping wars, fights over voice actors and some disturbing folks like Richard Kuta, Sonic93 and most infamously Chris Chan... As a Sonic fan myself..it's saddening to see this
I'm a neurodivergent furry artist with lots of "childish" interests like MLP and that one children's anime Glitter Force and such and I am very glad to have found this video. You have said some great things!
Usually when there’s an online movement to shun certain things, it’s usually because the people themselves are trying to fit in, even if they secretly partake in the “cringe.” One of the first times I’ve noticed this behavior online were the “jokes” under lewd posts, saying how they will not yield to temptation or whatever. I highly doubt that most of those “No, not me, I’m not into that!” statements rather than joke are by people who genuinely aren’t interested in that type of material.
As a neurodivergent person who’s current special interests are mcyt(specifically Hermitcraft, Empires and other related SMPs), which is considering “cringey” by some people, Lego Ninjago and Lego Monkie Kid, which are Lego shows so they’re considered “too childish”, and likes to make Gacha Club as a creative outlet and am also a beginner artist. I absolutely despise cringe culture. It’s just an excuse to bully people
AYO??? I'm neurodivergent and I LOVE hermitcraft, empires, other related SMPS and ninjago!! I make fanart for & write Ninjago fics. I say, don't be afraid. Cringe culture is stupid and I wish to stomp it into the very ground.
One thing you need to understand is that ART HAS NO RULES! You can make anything and if someone doesn't like it, they can leave. Deviantart is a wholesome platform you can join to post your art. A few days after I joined I got at least 5 comments saying "Welcome, keep up the great work!". However on tiktok I instantly got comments insulting my drawrings, (I agree, I'm not the best artist, but especially beginners should be encouraged).
I’m so glad I’ve never been victim to this stuff, I used to draw all this kind of stuff and I’ve usually been scared to show my art off because of this but now when I show my art I get praised a lot im glad that I wasn’t called “cringe” cause I probably wouldn’t have continued drawing
If you're an artist and you're scared of being bullied for being cringe, repeat this in your head: "If I like what I drew, it's good." Art is a very wide topic. You can do pretty much whatever you want on that piece of paper or that canvas on your device. Everyone's taste in art is different. I like to draw in a Gacha Club style (Mostly because I use GC to make most of my characters. That makes it easier to imagine them :]), and some people don't like that. A lot of people like the art style that old superhero comics have, and I'm not a big fan of it. And that's okay. That is called having an opinion. And having an opinion is perfectly fine, healthy even. Now if it's for commissions, that may be another story, because you want your client to be satisfied. I don't do commissions, so I can't talk about this. I'm talking about doing art for fun or for posting online: If you like what you drew, it's good. Also remember that everyone has a different art style. Like me, who draws in a Gacha Club like style. Maybe you're good in drawing MLP characters, or animals, or realistically, or stick figures: It doesn't matter. I really hate cringe culture as how it is now. If what you do is something that you like and it isn't hurting anyone, do it! If what you do hurts someone, that is cringe. Oh, and it is NOT cringe to be an adult/teen and liking childish stuff. There is a minimum age for almost everything, but no maximum age. This comes from a 14 year old who still watches Hello Kitty, Sonic X and TAWOG. So, just remember that the only art that is truly cringe is illegal art (Like child p--n.), and "fixing" art. Fixing art is taking one's character or art, changing it, and saying you "fixed" it. Most of the time this involves changing the character's skin colour, weight, or any illness/disability. There is no way to "fix" art. If you do any of these, then please do me a favour and keep it to yourself. If you do see it, please report it. If you don't do illegal art, I can say to you that your art is good
Loved the more introspective take on the subject at the end of this video- it's very refreshing to see someone admit that they've (unknowingly) participated in something and to call that out in an effort to do better and inspire others to do so as well. Great video, as always, Paige❤✨
I’m a teenage undertale fan, since 2017. I still draw it, still play it, still write fanfiction, and still am extremely into it. For a while I drew anthro art back in 2018. I’ve been called cringe more times than I’ve had a meal. These things(especially undertale and deltarune) we’re my special interest as an undiagnosed autistic kid at the time. People told me to be my true self and express myself and when I did in the way they didn’t like, I was bullied into almost quitting art for good just I was starting. I’m back now, and I’m still being called cringe now with my love for TMNT, mcyt, FNAF, and still, undertale.
I'm an autistic person who still likes Sonic, Pokémon (even have a couple Pokémon characters), draws pretty much exclusively furry art, and still collects plush toys (heck, I've "recently" started carrying a big Super Sonic plush with me. When I go out). And while I don't have the guts to do it, I have wanted to dye my hair blue... Multiple times I basically breath "cringe". And that's fine. My like, one rule/reason why I think people shouldn't like something. Is that they shouldn't use it to hurt themself/others (and also, nothing illegal) Sure there's, lots of things I don't like. And probably won't interact with people who like them. But that just simply comes down to, me not wanting to see it
I used to hate self insert OC’s because of Solar Sands and his community at the time where he’d make “deviantart cringe” videos, now that I’m older and over that phase of my life, I have so many self insert OC’s
OMG FINALLY!! I've been waiting SO LONG for a rant like this. I thought I would have to make it myself one day because no one was talking about generalizing literal Fandom from first impression. Most have been made aware about how the problematic cringe culture but people still like to bully people for being in a Fandom just because the first piece of content they saw from its was like an 8 year old drawing 18+ or something bizarre.
As a twelve year old Gacha creator whom created recently their main OC as a white haired cat-girl with one blue and red eye, this has sorta changed my whole perspective on art. I thought it was just to enjoy and express yourselves, but, I’ve realized it’s even more than that. To branch out the creativity level and your mindset. To enjoy what your doing. To know what’s best for you and be happy as possible. So, thank you. I appreciate this on how much you had put an impact on me and this means tons. Children should be children. So, thank you.
I never really had anyone "cringe" on my art. The only hate I got was on an older undertale piece of sans. The shading was all over and yeah it looked bad, but that's how my art was then and its improved. I'm 30 and still having to work on my basic foundations. Doesn't matter what age you are or where you are in you're art. You will struggle, you will be looked at by all artists and people will give their "opinions" on you're art. Just draw what makes you happy, but if you want to improve you have to draw outside your boundaries and by boundaries I mean things you struggle with i.e hands, feet, perspective, anatomy, ect.
I loved MLP when I was younger, but I eventually buried my obsession because I didn’t need another reason to be bullied. I’m now studying animation, and I’ve spent years studying horses. My final AP art piece was a pegasus. But to this day I’ve been afraid to draw fanart of the show, because I didn’t want people to call me a brony. Maybe someday I’ll get around to it. Thanks for making this video
I love when people cover these kinds of niche topics thank you for being that one person who does it. And I think a lot of the things you covered are so true and very interesting! I do think it's funny that people claim cringe culture is dead when clearly it's still a thing and it's everywhere.
When people say "Cringe Culture is Dead", they sadly don't mean it in a literal sense all of the time. Sometimes they say it to make other artists feel more welcome.
@@mjangelvortex I think its worse that way because then when people are actual victims of this kinda cyberbullying its gonna be a lot more hurtful than if they just knew what to expect. It still hurts, just less.
@@darkmatter9651 I think when people say cringe culture is dead (or more specifically when I say it, maybe I just misinterpreted it) they don't mean in the literal sense, moreover in the sense that the concept is stupid and deserves to burn to the ground.
Wow, this is so eye opening. Thank you so much. I've been trying to make characters that just make me happy, and not care about what people think. My gfs OC would be considered cringe, her first name is my gfs first name too, but I absolutely love her, my gf loves her too. So why can't I love my cringe characters?
I’m one of a handful of rollercoaster personifiers in the rollercoaster enthusiast community and you’ll either get absolutely torn to shreds or on the uncommon case, accepted and encouraged to draw what you like. Many of us are objectum so that certainly doesn’t help but I wish more people drew ocs based on theme park rides because they’re so fun and creative. I look at or seek out “cringy art” sometimes because I find it interesting to look at, genuinely fascinating
I will never understand people being rude to beginner/kid artists purely for making mistakes, any time I come across a beginner artist or a kid proud of their art and showing it online I shower them with compliments because it's what I would have wanted when I was starting out. It makes me happy to see more people become artists and be confident enough to post their art online where the entire world can see it.
I enjoy cringe content (which shouldn't be cringe at all) and I am proud! I was mocked at school because I watched cartoon, wrote stories and drew a lot. I was 14 years old and was mocked by teenagers for being a teenager. That's why it still hurt people calling me cringe. But I still enjoy my things because it doesn't make any sense for me to stop with it if it feels good for me
Man, if it wasn't for MLP, I wouldn't be as into art as I am now! I started drawing more seriously to draw my Pony OCs! I wanted to get better I eventually branched out into more Fandoms as well as original work! I still take the time to draw my ponysona once a year as a sort of thanks for showing me the way!
ive slowly learned to embrace being "cringe" since all it truly means is to just try and be happy with what i love and let myself be happy, but its still really hard when i think of death threats i used to get for rping as princess luna or asriel dreemurr on google+, or even now for liking stuff like scene, danganronpa, mlp, etc to this day, and im so fucking exhausted trying to supress who i am and how i enjoy shit, i have been for years, and im trying to just relax and let myself like things like i deserve just like everyone else does! "dont kill the part of you who is cringe, kill the part of you who cringes" is such a good fucking quote too, so thank you celeste ☆
I guess you didn't touch on this for fear of being demonetized. But what's your take on certain kinds of erotic art being branded as "cringe"? Y'know, whether it be because of the artists sub-par skills, the piece being fanart of a character/characters most people aren't comfortable seeing sexualized, or the work depicting certain kinks that rub the rest of the world the wrong way?
I remember when I got into sonic since I was 4 and loved it all the way from when I was 11 when saw people saying on the internet abt how anyone that likes sonic is cringe and weird so I stopped showing my love for sonic, until now where I just share it to anyone that I’m friends with and don’t care what they think, cuz it’s my life not theirs.
This is where I feel bad for kids who grew up in the social media age. Context, I am 32 years old. I remember when I got into Sonic when I was around 9-10 and was into the fandom when I was in middle school, sonic heroes, and no one really said anything. It wasn't seen as cringe to like sonic and even on the internet. That was the case as well. The whole sonic cringe stuff didn't start happening until about the 2000s and into the 2010s. Anyway, it aucks for those who experienced that part of the sonic generation.
Man in his 30's over here; all of the art styles you mentioned in this video most definitely sound like sooo much fun. I especially love how you call out misconceptions about the furry community. On top of that there are so many things artistic styles I enjoy. I actually didn't even know some of these were considered "cringe" art.
Quick Message for everyone: Some videos in my channel have been called cringe 😢, guys don’t let these types of comments slow you down in your way on becoming well known! Keep it up! ❤There’s a huge difference between cringe and liking something someone else doesn’t!
at this point ive came to just. drawing whatever the hell i want to, and whenever someone says something rude about it about it i reply with "weirdo" it throws them off so hard HSHS
Being 15 and enjoying to draw My Little Pony ship art, and going to highschool, it's not uncommon for me to get labeled as cringe or something. But I have very supportive friends and the art style is pretty decent. People just like being rude sometimes.
Also should say as soon as something becomes popular with children, it is considered cringey for an adult to like it because most of the time the bar is set so low for kids that anything with a large child fanbase is thought to be not good enough. Take Friday Night Funkin for example. A simple rhythm game that was definitely NOT made for kids and was just a Newgrounds love letter, now considered cringey because it appeals to a lot of kids. I think people have to understand that just because kids haven't developed a taste yet and don't know when something is truly good quality wise, that doesn't always mean everything they like is automatically bad quality
There's this one advice that I heard from someone is that the idea of "cringe" is that everyone feels that they should be in line with society's mainstream or else you'll be classified as a weirdo / freak, or something. Cringe culture has been such a toxic wasteland since day one and it kinda sucks that artists and people in general that have been targeted and harassed for whatever harmless content they create and enjoy feel self-conscious just for finding comfort and happiness in that fandom or franchise. It's not worth being so negatively relentless towards people all the time for enjoying stuff that has no effect on your life or anyone else's. A lot of people tend to contribute to that culture without ever realizing it until it finds its way around again. All in all, fuck cringe culture. There's really nothing to be embarrassed about. Most of the time, "cringe" content is rather genuine at best. We all start somewhere, that's fair enough, we improve in our work overtime. Honest engagement in harmless and wholesome content that's deemed to be childish, shameful or weird by other groups of people is an attraction for an audience to sink themselves in their so-called irony or hypocrisy. Nothing's ever "cringe" because (just about) everything can be amazing in it's own unique way. Get out there, embrace the world and be entitled and happy for whatever community you're into.
DRAW WHAT YOU WANT! As long as it's not inappropriate then draw what you want. People may think your art is cringe but don't listen to them! Do what makes you happy. People being rude about your art just don't like fun! So draw all those sonic oc,mlp art,or anything! :D
Thank you for shedding light on this. I have seen an uncomfortable amount of people on tiktok rip young or beginner artists to shreds simply for the fact that their art isn't "up to par." It hits me on such a personal level because people like the ones on tiktok made me develope such bad art anxiety for years. Now that I'm in my early 20s, I've finally broken out of that shell of 'is my art bad? will people like it?' because it doesn't matter at the end of the day. I always make it a point if I come across tiktoks that have a lot of negative comments in regards to someone's art to encourage and uplift the artist!
"Cringe" art is the very reason why I kept on going and eventually honed my artistic skills. The word wasn't even in circulation back when I was drawing my self-indulgent Sonic OCs and I honestly didn't care about now I might be perceived in the now or in the far future. If anything, "cringe" art displays an honesty I find endearing.
I've done a comic where there's one anthro character who resembles the round noses of Ducktale's dog characters, and because of that character a friend said I'm a furry... I don't care about that but I'm amazed how they think it's cringe or trying to roast me for that. Animal characters exists since the dawn of animation...
This made me look back upon my past, thankfully I didn't contribute a lot to cringe culture, not a content creator, but I did join in on the "fun." In my head, it wasn't that bad because I was watching people who would specifically look upon their old stuff and talk about why. Although I did fall into the trap of "edgy characters are cringe." But on of my favorite oc IS an edglord and I love them as much I traumatize them. I didn't realize how much harm this was and, well...I was kinda afraid to share my character once I realized they where an egdlord bc they'd be proceaved as cringe or bad. Now I've been wanting to write there full story. A trend I seam to find over and over is reverse growth in culture, encouraging people to basically be immature children that are scared of anything new to the norm they've been layed into. Every step forward somewhere seams to put a step back somewhere else. There are things we can do to medigate these things, I just hope that's enough. I wanted to post a long comment to boost the algorithm and I found something legit to talk about :3
Because of cringe culture, i hide the fact I like gatcha videos and I never looked into furries, despite being interested in them. i hide the fact I like homestuck and undertale.
I follow a simple rule: if a type of art doesn't attract me, I just avoid it. I would never make fun of the art of others. I myself became a victim of the Mary Sue/Self Insert witch hunt. It made me very insecure about my fanfics. I had many magical powerful child characters that could fall into the child mary sue trope, so I just didn't post many fanfics. I did not want to get judged. Conformity is another problem. When I enter a fandom and learn that all the things I want to do in my art and fics are no nos in this very fandom, (breaking the color coding rules, shipping the "wrong" characters, call out some character flaws etc...) I tend to withdraw again silently.
I've done many things that people would deem cringe, like making shoddily edited Gacha Life/Club music videos, making funny looking MLP art when I was like 11 or 12, or using that kind of "UwU smol bean" speak online, and I've learned to live with it and embrace my interests. People have made fun of me for it before, but I don't really care. I love things like MLP, making art using Gacha Club, and making self-insert OCs. Don't let someone calling you or your interests cringe ruin your day, because it's not their life. Also, the song Antonymph by Vylet Pony perfectly demonstrates how you shouldn't let cringe culture influence how you enjoy your life, because cringe culture is dead and doesn't do much good anyway, I highly suggest you listen to it!
I saw many beginner artists who have “please don’t bully me” in their bios it’s so heartbreaking
Damn
@@WorldWeaver that had nothing to do with this really but good for them? Ig
We should start a trend to encourage artists to draw the things they wanted to draw in the past but didn't out of fear of being labeled as cringe. Bring back the Sonic OC's! The sparkle dogs! The ponyfications!!

I also believe "cringe culture" is the reason why western video games, comics, and other entertainment is on life support. They're not appealing to "Modern audiences", they're appealing to a group that essentially says "If you don't like the same mainstream, trendy things I do, you don't deserve ANY respect."

There absolutely is an ableist side of it. “Autistic” used to be seen as an insult not too long ago for this exact reason.

Goes to show even if you dont draw something (like eyes), that wouldn't hinder someones ability to make cool drawings :D (and even full on animations!!)
Her artstyle is great no matter what
Omission is not unique.

A perfectionist, a museum artist, a realism drawing machine making only the things that were socially acceptable and "pretty" I never got to make fanart of my special interests (and I'm still too scared to post it) I lost my childhood to fear of not confirming to norms, hell I was even afraid to draw animals because someone might call it "furry art"
I am sad to think how many more of my art peers had the same experiences
I'm a scene, therian, anime loving, furry, lgbtq, cartoon enthusiast, neurodivergent artist and I am so fucking happy I woke up one day with the guts to just say it how it is, I'm tired of the realism, I'm tired of the painting, I'm tired of saying I don't like Sonic and MLP and watching cartoons etc. I love simple cartoon styles and really bright colours and inserting my rainbow barf characters into the things I like and if people don't like that fuck them, I am choosing to be happy, I am choosing to be myself and I'm glad I'm surrounded by a small community of such amazing and supportive people who love what I make
And I've been bullied, oh I've been bullied so much even if it was just a regular human character with slightly bright colours it was mocked and it made younger me sit in a corner and cry because I tried doing something different, I don't think that a 9 year old should be crying at their desk, sobbing, on the verge of vomit because people tell them that they are cringe, that they should d1e, that their art is garbage and that nobody loves them because they drew something badly

Haha

unrelated, i love your pfp, did you draw this yourself?
@ashie yep! The full image was colored traditionally. =D
It was colored using markers, with the linework done with colored pencils.

Yeah, like why harass over the things you like, seriously.
True humility is the only antidote to shame.” -Iroh
Do you find "cringy" people's actions distasteful or harmful? Or do you look down on them because you'd be ashamed if you were to the same?
10:21 when people automatically assume all gacha life/club artists are gacha heaters…
I was in the Sonic fandom when I was 11 too, why do I always chose fandoms that are considered cringe by “normal” internet users???
Because you follow your interests instead of molding them to what's popular. That's a good thing no matter how many people pretend it isn't. Never let these bullies dictate what you like, how you express yourself, or who you are. They're just mad that you're not herding yourself into "normality" like they do, that upset that you actually made a choice instead of following the crowd.
Nothing it cooler than not letting people control your harmless interests imo
@@sourgreendolly7685 oh my god that’s literally so nice I was not expecting that, thank you!
As the quite infamous quote says, “Don’t kill the part of you that’s cringe, kill the part of you that cringes.”
Like, there’s nothing wrong in what you like. You have to remember that a lot of bad that comes from a fandom is a loud minority. There are exceptions of course, but that doesn’t change the fact that an overwhelming majority are just people liking things, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
before watching the vid so it might be off-topic to the video:
i get genuinely sad whenever i see videos upon videos of people going onto DA and specifically looking for beginner artists to mock and make fun of. it's even worse because it's a website where beginner artists *specifically* should feel free from ridicule or shame for not immediately being the best at art. i remember when i just began, youtubers like SolarSand forced me off DA because i was so scared of ending up in one of those videos. i really don't understand the point of people doing that, it's so needlessly cruel
(This is a very butchered version of the story I’m very sorry 😅)
In short, don’t let other people’s standards hold you back from being yourself!
“GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!!”
-All Might
I draw MLP and Gacha almost exclusively, it’s very therapeutic to make lighthearted and cute artworks! I do enjoy my own art style as well though
I think people really need to learn to respect others for liking weird things..."
People rlly need to embrace that fact they they r weird in their own way and respect others for being weird as well
I once had a friend on dA that was bullied off the internet because of cringe culture assholes. And I haven't seen or heard from her in years. I hope she's ok. :(
Why is Sonic being dragged into this?! 😭
As a Sonic fan, I myself know exactly why lmfao
The 2010's sonic ocs being everywhere on every popular art sites (I think)
@@CarlytheWolf23 Sad, but true. Just for once I would like for people to not drag down Sonic and his fans
I like sonic and i like to watch gameplay and series like the recent sonic prime is pretty epic
Shadow is my favorite because in sone way i relate to him and i like his looks
Cause Unfortunately the Sonic fandom has birth some unfavorable stuff like the oversaturation of Sonic ocs, ridiculous shipping wars, fights over voice actors and some disturbing folks like Richard Kuta, Sonic93 and most infamously Chris Chan...
As a Sonic fan myself..it's saddening to see this
I'm a neurodivergent furry artist with lots of "childish" interests like MLP and that one children's anime Glitter Force and such and I am very glad to have found this video. You have said some great things!
Usually when there’s an online movement to shun certain things, it’s usually because the people themselves are trying to fit in, even if they secretly partake in the “cringe.”
One of the first times I’ve noticed this behavior online were the “jokes” under lewd posts, saying how they will not yield to temptation or whatever. I highly doubt that most of those “No, not me, I’m not into that!” statements rather than joke are by people who genuinely aren’t interested in that type of material.
As an Undertale and Fnaf artist I am so glad nobody has said anything harmful about my art.
Agreed
Cringe culture ain't good
If you don't have something nice to say than just don't say anything :/
:000 I'm neurodivergrent too! And I'm into mcyt as well!
If you're an artist and you're scared of being bullied for being cringe, repeat this in your head:
"If I like what I drew, it's good."
Art is a very wide topic.
If you don't do illegal art, I can say to you that your art is good
this video inspired me to go draw my shameless self insert OC again
Nice
Go ahead buddy :D
Can’t wait for chapter 3-5 :D
me too!! i've been working on one au for over a year now and i like drawing and writing about the characters
Multiple times
I basically breath "cringe". And that's fine. My like, one rule/reason why I think people shouldn't like something. Is that they shouldn't use it to hurt themself/others (and also, nothing illegal)
Sure there's, lots of things I don't like. And probably won't interact with people who like them. But that just simply comes down to, me not wanting to see it
I wanted red streaks but I’m afraid of being called cringe too D:
i did NOT KNOW YOU ARE AUTISTIC- OMG THAT MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD
I used to hate self insert OC’s because of Solar Sands and his community at the time where he’d make “deviantart cringe” videos, now that I’m older and over that phase of my life, I have so many self insert OC’s
@@cookiemoon7441 Maybe tbh
I look at or seek out “cringy art” sometimes because I find it interesting to look at, genuinely fascinating
you can draw whatever you want, as long as you're not hurting anybody! #cringecultureisdead
@@SweetSourL0ver aye you misspelt culture
@@SplicedBeast it should be, it sucks.
I wanted to get better
I eventually branched out into more Fandoms as well as original work!
I’ve also had a love for both Gacha and MLP but I sorta don’t go into the fandom that much anymore, but I haven’t completely lost interest in them.
Thank youuu for saying this.
Cringing on the inside happens, calling others out on it is mockery. Cringe is cringe :(
Quick Message for everyone:
Some videos in my channel have been called cringe 😢, guys don’t let these types of comments slow you down in your way on becoming well known! Keep it up! ❤There’s a huge difference between cringe and liking something someone else doesn’t!
at this point ive came to just. drawing whatever the hell i want to, and whenever someone says something rude about it about it i reply with "weirdo"
it throws them off so hard HSHS
I wanted to post a long comment to boost the algorithm and I found something legit to talk about :3
I live by "to be cringe is to be free," and i say it proudly to all the h8ers, so spread the word "TO BE CRINGE IS TO BE FREE!!!!!"
