Everyone who played Fallout : New Vegas remembers cazadors. Or rather is scarred by them. But are they just big tarantula hawks, or something more too? Let's find out.

The Cazadors venom is definitely not stopping at the epidermal layer with a stinger that’s a foot long.
No shit judging by the abdomen size, that thing has over a gallon of venom enough to give a rhino an overdose!!!
It’s pure overkill, if the stab didn’t kill you the venom injected into you will finish the job
@@fist-of-doom487 They are genetically engineered bioweapons so that checks out.
@@YourBoyNobody530No thanks to the Big Empty scientists 😤
Even the young one are at least 6 inches long so it would pretty much be getting stabbed by a hypodermic machete dude I would rather take on Deathclaw swarms
"Did not seem sound of mind" is a phenomenally wild understatement when describing anyone from the Think Tank.
8 seems.... To not be a megalomaniac consumed by pride, with an uncontrolled urge for hyperbole. It's something right?
I love Josh's story on Cazadors, apparently when he revealed them on a Fallout Forum, nobody was really intimidated by them, that is, until they finally played the game and started walking to New Vegas.
He did try to warn them...
Because in most RPGs insect type enemies, especially those you can encounter in the first half hour of playing, are typically minor annoyances at best free XP at worst. Everyone was conditioned to thinking they'd be pushovers and no problem, but then BFG division started playing and the rest is history.
For what it's worth though with a deep understanding of the game they're still dangerous but much more manageable. Hollow point ammo and automatic fire are your friends
@@Kaarl_Mills Hunting shotgun with flechettes and buckshot did well, aiming for their wings
"that's a strange-looking bloatfly, wait where did my hp g-"
My favorite way to kill Cazadores is to go up onto a ridge where the AI paths frenetically around a seemingly impassable area, all while possessing wings. Pew-pew!
Cazadors could utilize the giant but still “small”, presumably softer armored and more common mutated bark scorpion as a common food item for their young.
its like a happy meal for them lmao
If you look at where Cazadors are located you often aren’t far from a large amount of corpses the cazadors near chances grave come to mind so mass provisioning with multiple prey items seems to make sense.
Edit: interestingly those corpses near chances graves include Bramen and humans meaning humans are definitely on the menu and like some larger prey items as well.
If I remember correctly, Cass mentions that she's "Surprised it's not a Cazador nest" at her old caravan's remains, which led me to personally believe they're attracted to blood, like sharks
I think the part about how the Cazadors wouldn't be able to reproduce is a nod of how some people said that the africanized honey bees wouldn't be able to survive the north american winter. I might be seeing patterns were there aren't but is just a thought
That may be a pretty ironic nod ngl

The ending sides in lonesome road claim that the tunnelers are going to destroy the mojave, but with these chads existing I just cant see it happening.
*"YOU DARE OPPOSE ME MORTAL?"*
Cazadores when something other than themselves dares to be alive in its neighborhood
tunnelers vs cazadores? my caps are on the wasps, they could even take advantage of tunnels for nesting.
Just a minor correction regarding the in game performance of Cazadores:
They have a Damage Threshold of 0, meaning any weapon or attack will deal full damage to it. What they do have though is a surprisingly large amount of health, in addition to flying fast and typically attacking in numbers
This correction makes nothing better. Lol. They're hell spawn!
@@ShadowShinobi2012 indeed, but it would've bothered me to not say it
Ah yes its time for another delicious unnatural history video!
Hell yeah brotha!
God, I love Thursdays; Unnatural History, know that’s you have single-handedly resurrected a love of biology and ecology that a college professor of mine killed a long time ago, and that you’re the reason I’m going to be starting my bio degree again
Best of luck with it all!
Good studying man !
I am also taking a bit of a break from studies for other reasons ,
It gets hard very ofthen
What exactly did this Professor do to you?
@@Malignard I imagine teaching poorly. Not making the subject material engaging, and by proxy hard to digest. Could lead to lower grades and losing interest in the subject. I had a HS American History teacher that did this. 45 minutes of pure slog, dogshit lecturing which made taking good notes a challenge and I constantly had to compare with friends/other classmates. I passed with a low-B, whereas the next year when I took World History with a much more enthused teacher I passed with an A.
Man, I really like how they designed Cazadors and even now just seeing the thumbnail sort of triggered my fight or flight response. Just the way that they were placed in areas almost to remind you that this ain't no picnic, it's a dangerous wasteland with what living things remain usually out to get you
The Tarantula Hawk Wasp is already evidence against the existence of a loving god.
The Cazador is evidence that if there was a god. He is not here.
Amen to that. I’m pretty sure that thing crawled out of hell it’s self!! I ran in to one 20 minutes into my first Playthru, I died, horribly, repeatedly ,embarrassingly
It's evidence hell exists, that's for damn sure.
Always hated the poison effect in New Vegas. Dr.Borous was on some kind of crack when he made these, although old world blues’ perks did make killing these things much more bearable.
Lol, just hearing their buzzing before even seeing them made me shriek like a tiger is in my bedroom. All and all I loved them. After playing fallout 3 I thought the only beasts that could bring terror to me was a super mutant behemoth, or a surprise death claw. Nooooooooooo. There's nothing like seeing a bunch of angry eyed, frenzied wasps ripping at your brotherhood of steel armor to make you understand your place in fallout new vegas.
an important thing to note about the mention of deathclaws potentially hunting cazas is that cazas typically kill deathclaws
they're not immune to their venom either
I'm not only learning ecology through these vegas vids, but also learning fallout lore because I've never played a single fallout game.
Thank you UHC
If youre a Xbox player then when Game Pass core comes out on sept 14 fallout 4 comes in the first batch. So hey at least theres that
It’s likely that the Cazadors attack because humans are good food for their young being very soft targets compared to the ants they often eat with similar meat and mass.
Plus with how many bullets Cazadors can take from a courier that isnt god of the wastes level yet, plus how quickly even one can kill someone, it certainly gives the impression that they could reasonably decide humans are easy prey
@@dumbsterdives Well if we assume that scaling insects up also scales up their abilities than their exoskeletons would be like 20mm steel plates which is enough to stop pretty much all small arms fire.
I'll never forget the first time I played New Vegas.
I ignored all the signs and went north from Goodsprings and I didn't stop until I was at Bonnie Springs.
Chance's knife came in handy that early in the game, especially after using what non-existent supplies that could be scrounged from the area around Goodsprings.
Your video on the deathclaw made me buy base fallout and new vegas with all dlc for just over ten punds one steam sale, and i have really enjoyed both. I can confirm, these insects were the cause of my death over everything else early game in vegas.
Cazadores are my favorite fallout monster. I guess i just love tarantula Hawks. Will you eventually look at the mirelurks too? They do present an interesting ecology too
Which mirelurks though. The Crab people or People sized Crabs
@@johndiddilyjoe6258Y E S
There are few video game creatures that made me actively avoid areas like the cazador. If I came across one and survived, you'd best believe I was gonna turn my ass around and head back the way I came. I never did that with Deathclaws, Mirelurks, or anything else
I have a wasp phobia in real life, so seeing these bastards in Fallout was real special! Deathclaws are more formidable foes, but the Cazadors small size, high movement speed, and punishing damage really made me think twice before attacking a swarm of Cazadors.
I am kind of surprised the video didn't comment much on their size. For insects, Cazadors are huge. Maybe my memory is off, but I distinctly remember thinking they flew like hummingbirds, so their energy requirements would be enormous, no?
Imagine if cazadores could parasitize radscorpions, that would be horrifying
I really wish that you could pull out a clutch of cazador eggs when Boros says they’re sterile
A friend who just got into fallout was trying to be smart and told me wildlife mutating like this from nuclear war 200ish years ago is totally unrealistic.
He was rewarded with an essay monologue about FEV
If you do another non-Monster Hunter monster, could you please do a video on the Behemoths or Chocabos from Final Fantasy? Ideally the versions from the most recent Final Fantasy 16
Also I think a one-time wishlist video for the as-of-yet unannounced Monster Hunter 6 would be awesome to see too
I mean Behemoth would also technically be a Monster Hunter video.
@@AztecCroc How so? I don't recall Behemoth being from Monster Hunter. It is an iconic Final Fantasy creature.

I’ve had the displeasure to see a tarantula hawk wasp in person. My first reaction was to run cause it reminded me of the cazadores

this is an amazing avenue for the channel
fallout has so much stuff to break down
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for Cazadors extinction
You know what could be interesting…the Crawlers from The Descent. I think I remember you saying hominid evolution wasn’t your thing (either I’m confusing that with what you said about ancient societies in the Primal season 2 vid, or you mentioned it in the Walking With vid) but I’d love to hear your take on those creatures given how the director wanted them to be feasible creatures that could exist.
Yes, I'll take another 10 fallout creature videos thank you.
Never played a Fallout game in my life, yet this video feels just as interesting and involving as the usual content, the one that gives me a reason to look forward to Thursdays!
Nice medley of roars at the end too.
can you pick any of them out, i assumed it was one roar at first but it does seem like a few, although some of the world roars do sound like multiple at once... but listening back to a montage of world roars none of them matched this. im very stumped, and excited.
@@biga6664 it's the big lizards from World, Great Jagras opens up and you can hear Dodogama echoing in the end, Great Girros is also in there but it has the weakest roar out of them and so you can't really hear it.
@@matteolucarelli4615 you were right! Good video too.
This channel covering fallout is so exciting to me. Cazador have always been a favorite enemy of mine and I live in Texas so I’ve interacted with tarantula hawks a couple of times as well. They really don’t seem to be aggressive in my experience.
I suffer from a generalized phobia of most arthropods, so I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this video. But I'll definitely try!
I appreciate your Videos right before I go to sleep because I find your content to be informative for both lore - and Biology knowledge. You also help me to calm down from a hard day at work with your calm Voice so I have to thank you for making videos and helping me just with your Videos 👌🏼
Tarantula hawks have one of the top ten most painful stings known, so giant, mutated, and aggressive are not a good combo for the death that will occur from an internal envenomation.
It has one of the most potent venoms among insects, topped only by bullet ant.
I like the idea that cazadores fly around each other in a way to sort of fan themselves off during the heat of the day. Similarly to how bees will manually fan heat out of nests
I think "crepuscular" is still one of my favorite words in the English language.
I haven't played any Fallout game but I'm here to say thanks UHC for the content and looking forward for more.
Small request for the Trolls of the Elder Scrolls Series
Something the loading screens say is that they're directly competing with and combating deathclaws
"They're nearly as big as the trucks they hit like! Wow, I actually wrote that in the script..."
Tarantula hawks get tired, and thirsty, and learn from past experiences. This show they are essentially like any other animal, and not some kind of murder robot like some portray them as.
On the negative human interaction thing; Cazadores seem to prey on Brahmin, the main livestock on the wastes.
I think that they might have gotten the wolf treatment: They dont prey on humans, but are dangerous by virtue of preying on our prey
I aways wanted to know more about Cazadors, never had the opportunity to play any game with them in, thank you so much
i like this choice of direction for your channel.
These things scared the crap out of me when I first saw them, but they’re probably my favorite irradiated beast in the Fallout world
Absolutely fantastic video, love new Vegas and the cazadors always were my favorite looking enemy
Cazadors are dangerous until you get 10 agility and the 9mm submachine gun. Then just VATS your way through combat.
Excellent as always, even with your sore throat. I come back to comment in defeat; I cannot for the life of me remember who that roar at the end belongs to.
Tarantula hawks have always been as fascinating to me as they are terrifying. Not too familiar with Fallout, but as you say in the video not much at all needs to be done to them to make them such a terrible enemy in a world like that of the series.
Cheers!
Every new video is the Return of the King!
Cazadors, I’m more afraid of them than a pack of Death Claws on the prowl.
My new nightmare; the bee that can actually be shot with a gun.
Types of scales, fur, or even feathers could be something cool to look at for your next analysis.
Great video!! Also, it’s out of your usual wheelhouse, but my friend really wants you to make a video about the alien from Nope! Just thought I’d suggest it :) thanks for the great and thorough videos!
Love the film and want to cover it - just that there’s a paper coming out on it I want to read first
In Fallout New Vegas I never travel anywhere I might have to deal with Cazadors until I have my heart replaced in Old World Blues making me immune to poison.
You feel a little woozy 😵💫☠️
I'm smelling a new series being started, have fun hiking through the nuclear wastes my friend.
As someone who plays with an unarmed build, these things were always laughable
Oh boy. My sleep paralysis demon. Now, I don't have a phobia of insects necessarily, but when a bug can squish me back, that's when I start to hold issues
a cazador's stinger can go through power armor, so I don't see why it can't go through a rad scorpion with a lower DT than power armor. I now want to match them up in new Vegas.
Least expected video but probably my most favorite
Doing an unarmed build, deathclaws are a minor nuisance compared to an unexpected cazadore swarm. Those poison noises put me in a panic real quick
I would LOVE you doing a video on the biology of the fauna of the game Kenshi, especially Beak Things.
Another fantastic video!!!!
Great look at my oersonal nightmare 😅
Ooo I can't wait to see how you (at least try to) rationalize Dodogama
oh yes those guys, when you melee and block their attack, they breaking your wpn and you also have to find a cure from venom
Fantastic timing, I just finished my New Vegas playthrough not minutes ago.
Dope video man!
When I realized the Cazador is the Fallout version of the Tarantula Hawk Wasp 😬
I hate dealing with those IRL and now I deal with them in game too!?! 😂
*having troubles with cazadors* just cripple there wings *makes dealing with them much eaiser*
YOOOOOOOOOOO THESE DUDES!! I've always loved their design lol
Looking forward to watching this vid!
Also, Dodogama for next vid it sounds? This'll be neat lol (also is it the first obligate rock eater? I can't quite remember if you've covered any other ones lol)
Cazadors my behated, the nightmares are still fresh
Funny thing is Tarantula wasps in real life are chill and don’t want to go near humans. If anything they run like hell. But it seems after the bombs they changed their minds lol
Look at that, the worst enemy in New Vegas.
Yet another Fantastic Video! 👏👏👏👏 ❤❤❤❤ 💖💖💖💖
I played NV for the first time a few years ago, and getting background lore about these little bugger when I got to the DLC was a real surprise back then.
If you injure their wing, the way they crawl at you is even scarier imo. Very dedicated fuckers
We have seen irradiated rats and naked mole rats, they get huge, now I wanna see an irradiated capybara
First time I saw them at the wind farm, I was pretty calm. Then they killed me. And they killed me again. And then I realised. Unless you can take out all of them with 1 AP bar of VATS or you have inhuman aim, you're better off sneaking on past.
Now I kind of want to see albino Cazadors. Oh, maybe even glowing ones, would be fun. who’s up for some fun!

Ayeo just wanted to point out quadrupedal theropods as a common trope in spec Evo, especially since 65 was the most recent dinosaur film to depict this. Literally creating two fictional theropods capable of quadrupedal movement for the film. I am not sure how to recommend video concepts but I figured you'd get a kick out of it. Also nice vid, love the fallout vids. Another game franchise that needs some love would be the technomancer and mars warlogs game series. Plenty of fun beasties to dissect.
65 had such a great concept and they really did waste it. oh well.
I live in California and see these things flying around on our property sometime. Nasty bugs
Honestly I do hope we see a new desert fallout. I never played the older ones and while they are definitely on my "l will play this probably definitely eventually" list I feel like stuff like cactus forests, some of the more iconic dessert snakes and lizards (rattlesnake and gilla monster) and tarantula would be cool to see mutated into a new world and what other struggles the people present would be dealing with. (The tarantula idea may be exclusive from having casadors present though since their absence is one of the only big reasons I can think of for their success here) idk how all the details of a new dessert fallout would work being the biggest reason we probably won't see it since I feel like we've already seen a lot of these stories explored.
A trapdoor spider should be added to the next game, if one ever manifests.
I love cazadors, they are really strong but at the same time you can counter them with hollow point rounds (or high dps energy). They have clear strengths and weaknesses
Good thing Cazadores aren't in the Commonwealth got enough to deal with already
Had to prepare some some as to watch this with maximum comfort
have i played fallout? not once
did i watch the entire video with 100% attention? of course i did.
How did the Deathclaw end up as the scariest Fallout enemy? These things are straight up hellspawn.
15:45 To be fair, radscorpions are arachnids and not bugs nor insects.
Ties with deathclaws for my least favorite animal enemy to fight on a melee character
Also I know that it's not likely, but would you ever consider doing a video on the pikmin series?
Fuck yes some fallout mutant biology? I’d absolutely love to hear your research into more fallout stuff
Why am I loving this?
Let me guess, the super saiyan monkey got the best of you huh?
Hopefully you do mirelurks next!
I remember when I first encountered one. thought I could go straight to Vegas. and well, started to wish that the bullet in my head killed me
