    You mentioning the Nargacuga made me think about their diet adaptations, prior to World Iceborne, Nargacuga had a predilection for smaller prey, they attacked Kelbi even when they where Aptonoth, Slagtoth and Larinoth in the area, giving me the idea that, In the Monster Hunter universe, Nargacuga hunted small prey such as Kelbi, Mosswine and even Bullfango to prevent conflict over food with other large predators, not many carnivorous monsters attack pelagus creatures (aside from Popo), besides small raptorial bird wyverns like Velociprey.
    from my point of view, a Rathian would hunt a large male Aptonoth rather than entering in a direct conflict with a Nargacuga for a Kelbi or mosswine. Making also evolutionary sense as Nargacuga possesses Blade-like wings (also used in combat) to cut through dense vegetation while chasing small agile prey like Kelbi, things that really aren’t necessary to hunt down large herbivores like Slagtoth nor the Aptonoth since they don’t roam denser vegetation areas within their territory that often and aren’t very agile nor fast...
    I hope they keep this preference for small prey concept for lore within the upcoming games, series, movies. Although I really doubt it since now in World and Rise just like any other predatory monster they feed on the same prey animal of the map (Aptonoth, Slagtoth, Raphinos and Gargwa)

    • @unnaturalhistorychannel

      When I get round to Narg diet + hunting and such will be a big chunk of his video. I also agree in Rise it's kind of annoying he's an 'eat everything' type monster, although when I get round to it I believe there may be some difference in Old and New World Narg.

    5:20 if you break his Fangs, he looses his Ability to summon Blangos, implying it to be a Statussymbol.
    Congalala is still seen swinging around in 4U. His Claws might be based on a Sloth ones, who can actually be quiet dangerous.
    His other Inspirations seemn to be Hippos, and Orangutans.
    8:55 its likely a Kelbi, the Horns fit to well, and the Females are blue.

    In all honesty, I have never taken Congalala seriously because of its goofy design and his farting attack, but I do like how it incorporates the mushrooms it eats for the status ailments for its breath attack. In my experience in MH Freedom 2 in the PSP, no joke, Congalala was my 2nd wall next to Kut Ku. I had a difficult time with other weapons until I use the dual blades and I finally triumph.
    Blangonga was actually my favorite Primatus during MH Freedom 2. In all the media I've watch, they always treat baboons as joke for their butts (thats pretty much the reason why I don't like Congalala). Its great to finally see a baboon potrayed as a fearsome predator not to mess with. Blangaonga's cutscene is one of greatest, with its imposing mustache, long fangs, and the ability to call blangos out of the icy grounds in command as its walks toward you menacingly along with his gang of blangos. Its one of the best early fights for me, its attacks are brutal and surprising. I would describe it fighting a early Rajang but fair.
    I have just recently discovered your channel, I consider you as the best fictional documentary channel and I can't wait for more videos Unnatural History. I hope youll the rest of the fanged beast

    • @DJWeapon8
      @DJWeapon8 2 года назад +2

      Blangonga is also my favorite pelagus/primate monster in the series.
      Same reasons as yours for the most part. A serious and fearsome subversion of pop culture monkeys in media.
      And IIRC its the first to have an accurate hitbox. The leaping lunge attack, specifically.
      Before, I've always taken a very timid approach to hunts due to the hitboxes being broken. Waiting for a monster to attack and only attacking during the recovery animation.
      At first I did the same for blangonga and kept getting hit by his leaping lunge. Then I accidentally faced toward him and rolled a few meters in front of his face, panicking and spamming X.
      But that accidental roll put me in the perfect distance to roll *_under_* his lunge. The hunt changed after that, as did my playstyle. Becoming much more active and staying close to monsters.
      There was still plenty of trial and error in figuring out what attacks I can roll through/under and what were just plain undodgeable due to being 2nd gen, though.

      Yeah, I remember Blangonga being the first wall for my friends and I when we were playing Generations, because it was the first monster where we couldn't just fuck because we knew that the monster is too easy to fail to. Blangonga triple carting us was a bit of a reality check and we had to actually try a bit to beat it. The Blangonga also became a bit of an inside joke after because of its funny head, deceivingly challenging battle, and the fact that it was a monkey (my friends and I go crazy for apes and monkeys)

    Back when I started my MH journey in Tri I always believed that captured monsters would end up in the colosseum/arena, since coincidentally the creatures I captured in the main story were unlocked on the Split Screen Multiplayer Arena.
    It would be interesting to have a mechanic where you can hunt again the monsters you've captured after the guild finished their research, since sending them back (like mentioned in the video) would make the monster's life much harder in the wild

    • @unnaturalhistorychannel
      @unnaturalhistorychannel  2 года назад +43

    • @victorribeiro6772

      @@unnaturalhistorychannel Good idea, it would make sense as well. After all, we don't hunt for sport but mostly (sadly not always) by need, most people don't give the quest discriptions to much attention and there we can see that a monster is a threat, and from there on we get to hunt it. Having an arena event ''live'' for other people to watch would be a way to apreciate hunters/teach new hunters how to hunt down that monster's species in the wild. We kill and make weapons with monster parts, why not dive in deeper to why we hunt them?

    Kind of neat how this was made sometime after the Netflix monster hunter movie(the animated CG one). A very interesting scene occurred where the main character and his “posse” encounter a Deviljho seemingly out of no where, it’s implied it was roaming about cause of the elder dragon in the region but not soon after we see a Congalala defending itself against it. Mind you its on it own and for a good portion of the fight it actually seems the have the upper hand. Knowing the nature of the simian beast if it was on its own it would have simply ran. Maybe it fought the Deviljho in order to defend a troop that was in the forest hiding near by, but of course this is just speculation

Being based on the Tengu, Capcom could have taken the easy way out and made it into another bird wyvern; but they took the youkai and made it into a monkey with bird elements, and that really makes it stand out compared to the other ape monsters in the franchise. Jokes aside, really nice video about the primate fauna of MH. And honestly your Ice Age theory is starting to grow a lil bit on me, but good thing there’s now the discord for further discussions lmao. And tbh, your explanation on Blangonga almost explains it to a tea. It would make sense they’re original once temperate cursorial primates of the plains and steppes now specialized to the frigid mountains like the Arctic Ridge and such after the decreasing of their ancient steppe biomes. Although I wonder how does Rajang fit into the situation as it’s also a really cursorial mostly carnivorous primate with horns and electrical output…
