One of my favorite quotes from the entire show….”I’m here on behalf of the blue sapphire”. One of the most gangster scenes in history IMO
It's not really gangster though. It just shows how far gone Tommy is at this point. It's made clear in the show that the gypsy magic is not real, and is just a figment of Tommy's imagination. It wasn't supposed to be a "gangster" scene. It was more to show that Tommy is absolutely bat shit insane and not a good person.

@@jamesawwyea it’s not for sure. But it was 3 men and 1 woman that put a hex on his daughter that ended with her dying. It’s the casual stroll up and asking if she’s so and so, then ripping the Tommy gun. Just randomly shooting up women with a Tommy gun without a reason wouldn’t be ok in any situation or universe. But when you add the context from the story, it fits.
My favorite moment in the show is Cillian mentally preparing to put a mask on and face a room of evil then suddenly the same song Grace sung in the first season, fills the air and he gives the most haunted of looks. It's layered by the mistress, after showing just how disgusting she is, is the only one to see the haunted eyes in the darkness... and her attitude drops. She genuinely looks like she feels such sadness for Tommy. It's capped by her noticing Tommy's limit and effectively confirming the end of the meeting. What a scene. What a pristine script.

That's easily the most heart breaking exchange of words in this series. Arthur's voice breaks my heart here. Absolutely excellent acting.
Overall, one of the saddest opening scenes in any series. period.
First time we ever see Tommy crack, and Cillian delivers
Nikki is so precious with her emotional connections in these shows. Her reactions are heartfelt and endearing …

Cillian Murphy is awesome playing the role of Tommy Selby
The sapphire is from S3 the one Grace wear then Tommy asks the gypsy woman if is cursed which she says yes (the curse part maybe is what Tommy needed to hear) then the sapphire ends up with the lady he kills in the opening scene of this episode, all this info provided by Esme, I’m not entirely sure if this is all true because it appears Esme has her own intentions of getting gold from Tommy.
Not sure if anyone else told yall but there is going to be a Peaky Blinder movie so the story doesn't actually end with this season.

Everybody dies, don't they 😉 Remember for Tommy to have been old enough to be a Sergeant Major in the first world war (probably early 20's) then he was born in the previous century, so has to be 40 surely. People died young back then from all sorts of things they could not treat. I doubt that any of us will ever see a fictional story, written and acted as good as this, let alone the way it was produced and directed as well. It is almost just perfect, and it will stay with you for years now you have seen it (most of it). You will love the next two episodes, promise
Hearing you say that "all Tommy does is smoke and drink," makes me think about something I recently read about Cillin Murphy, as a non-smoker, smoked over 3000 herbal cigarettes PER SEASON of Peaky Blinders!

I am curious if Esme was lying about the other Gypsy tribe placing a curse on Ruby. If maybe Esme's tribe had a grievance with them and used Tommy's grief and rage to eliminate that woman who was their leader. Esme has no love for Tommy and I don't doubt that she would have no problem using him for her own ends.

I never really understood why Duke was added to the show. No offense to the actor, who is great and does a good job, but the character just seemed kind of superfluous to me. He didn't ever seem to bring out anything new in Tommy. I would be curious to know what the writers were trying to say with him.
