      I felt bad when he called himself the realm's delight. He wanted so badly to be loved. Rhaenyra had two loving parents and the whole realm saw her as their delight just because. He was never loved. Only his dragon loved him and his dragon is dead ( or so he believes ). I'm not blaming Rhaenyra for having what she has. It's not her fault that Aegon was neglected but I can empathize with with him on this. Being in the golden child's shadow and having you parents screw you up so badly. It's sad.

      @@MrFredsttI don't think she's useless, she just never cared about any game of Thrones. I don't even think Rhaenyra would kill her at this point, but yeah the whole forgetting about Jahaerys is weird, but many Targs are depressive, gloomy, with visions and kinda numb, due to the dreams that the have (liker her, Rhaegar and Daeron son of Maekar).

      @@quintboredom How is she not useless? She does nothing other than give spoilers to the audience. That's it. That's her entire function in the show. She's a non-entity. Compared to her book counterpart where is happy and loved by the smallfolk, sits on Aegon's council and gives him advice, rides Dreamfyre, and then after B&C goes on an extremely downward spiral bc the death of her son has completely broken her mentally like it would to any normal mother. Instead on the show we get someone who has no emotions about her children, doesn't affect the story in any meaningful way, and is essentially just a worse version of season 8 Bran.

    • @MrFredstt
      @MrFredstt 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Virgohorrorqueen1980 Exactly. The whole point was that she COULDN'T help her brothers bc she was so distraught over her son's death. It's much more compelling than a mother that just doesn't give a shit about her children and somehow doesn't care to get justice for it. Also the book did a great job in showing just how destructive and vile killing Jaehaerys was and how that haunts and impacts all of the green characters throughout the rest of the war while the show forgets about it after a couple episodes

    The shot of Alicent chewing her fingers, wearing blue, just brings back all these feelings, stress and fear she had as a child, I appreciate the callback.
    Also, I was worried that Daemons story wasn’t going to pay off considering how slow it felt throughout the season, but now I see that he NEEDED to have his ego and worldview be broken down by the dark magic of Harrenhal. By seeing the dream of the future, the song of ice and fire, after he sees that he never really needed the crown, he now puts all of his heart into fighting for Rhaenyra.

    • @Vincent-gl7bs
      @Vincent-gl7bs 4 месяца назад +6

      My complaint is that they spent five episodes to build suspense for him and the decision he'd have to make, only to basically throw it away. Regardless of whether he ultimately decided to fight for himself or come around to fully serving Rhaenyra the decision would have been cool and could have made sense, but instead they remove the decision and robbed all agency from Daemon with the weird prophecy scene in this episode. None of what he saw with Alys this episode was necessary, I wish they just extended the last vision of his brother for 2 seconds longer so he could give a one-word answer to whether he still wanted the crown.

The prophecy ultimately makes him realize that he needs to support rhaenyras claim but what he himself wants as a person and as his own character was already questioned beforehand with his own visions. i think it’s a great mix though they could’ve definitely made clearer what exactly contributed to his ultimate decision. sometimes it’s better to not be spoon fed every single information

    For Nikki and Steven and anyone wondering about why this season has less action than expected, HBO merged with WB so they needed cash for the merger so HBO cut the budget of every single one of their projects. At the same time, there was the writers strike and considering the showrunners of HOTD are American, they couldn’t rewrite the season to the way they wanted for it to actually fit the new budget. They were then forced to push events that were previously confirmed for season 2 (like a big battle that I won’t spoil the specifics of) into season 3 and stretch out some episodes because they weren’t able to fully rewrite the scripts. That is why episodes after episodes 4 have a very different pacing and that is why the season is only 8 episodes (even though they say it is for story reasons but HBO would never allow them to actually blame the studio). It is very unfortunate but I believe they did the best with the cards they were dealt.

    • @CraigKostelecky
      @CraigKostelecky 4 месяца назад +20

      This is a really well put summary of the real world restraints Ryan Condal and his team have had to deal with. They are trying to give us this story as GRRM wrote it, with some liberties to expand on what may not have been noted in the historical books. I am almost certain this season was written with a 10 episode arc and the final two episodes would have had that epic conclusion that we are used to. So now we will have to wait a (long) while to see it play out in the beginning of season 3. Hopefully by then, they'll have the necessary budget to pull off what the rest of this show needs.

    So. They basically made the show Aemond vs everyone… and him the only person fighting for his side legitimately and strategically. They made Allicent the worse possible person- forcing her son on the throne and standing for her banners to THEN fully contradict herself and give up her children to the sword (ehem what Otto predicted would happen via Rhaenyra - he just didn’t know his daughter would suggest it herself)
    They made Rhaenyra murder people and paint it as necessary for destiny or fate. To them also have her turn around and say a son for a son something that contradicts to her original thoughts on that.

    The way Steven said it gave me the impression that he didn’t know what the God’s Eye was referring to when Helaena said that Aemond would be swallowed up by the God’s Eye. The God’s Eye is a the lake that Harrenhal sits on the Banks of. It is a round lake in the middle of Westeros with a round island in the center, like a pupil in an eye. The island is called the Isle of Faces, because it contains a grove of Weirwood trees. And each of those trees has a face carved into it.

    • @blackeyedlily
      @blackeyedlily 2 месяца назад

      @@revylucian8289 This series is based on the book Fire and Blood and it is not part of the primary book series. It is essentially a history of the Targaryen Dynasty. Martin wrote it as if a Maester at the Citadel was writing a history book. So it’s not written like a novel, which makes it a bit harder less appealing for some people who don’t care for that style. Still, there are a lot of people who love the book, myself included. The author includes several versions of many of the events, as if he is giving the story from a variety of sources and it is up to the reader to decide what really happened.
      As far as reading an unfinished story, Fire and Blood is supposed to be Volume One of the Targaryen history. But unlike the novels you get the complete story of the Targaryens for the first half of their dynasty. This volume starts with Aegon the Conqueror and ends with the generation that ends the story House of the Dragon is telling. So viewers of House of the Dragon could easily read Fire and Blood once the series is complete, or read the chapters now that go up until the beginning of when the series begins. In fact, reading those early chapters would probably give a better sense of what is happening in the show by knowing the history of how they got there.
      Lastly, as a huge fan of the Song of Ice and Fire series, I highly recommend reading the books, even though the series is not complete. If you enjoyed the television show, then the books enhance that story 100 fold IMO. It is just such a richer and more expansive story in the books. And you can see that there are deeper themes that the author is expressing through the story that the show runners sacrificed in order to focus on the political intrigue, shock value and spectacle.🔥❤️

Because that is what that bullshit would have mean. 3 Boys, that are a challenge to the throne, so ... She would also give her their plans, so Rhaenyra's army can kill her brother and Criston ??? Makes perfect sense yeah, and all of this after Rhaenyra's husband caused the horrific assesination of her grand baby, a child of 5 or 6 years. Yeah, sounds something she would do. Absolutely jajajajajaja I have to laught or I will get really pissed. It's so bad I really feel it's disrespecful to the original story. Martin wrote a book. A great book. Easter Egg: Hopefully everyone knows that the Children of the Forest carved faces in the Weirwood trees ages ago. The Weirwood at Harrenhal has a special face, that of the creator, George R.R. Martin... all hail!
    In the visions Daemon had, we see Ser Brynden Rivers, bastard son of King Aegon IV, aka Bloodraven, the man who would later become the Three-Eyed Raven and teaching Bran Stark to succeed him as the Three-Eyed Raven. After Daemon, Bloodraven also wielded Dark Sister, one of the two Valyrian steel ancestral swords of House Targaryen. There is a not-so-popular, yet interesting, theory that Daemon and Bloodraven are the same person. We will see more of Bloodraven in HBO's new upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but not until season 3 of that show, if they match 1 book to 1 season.
    That show centers around a wandering Hedge Knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his loyal squire, Egg. "Egg" is short for Aegon, as in Targaryen, future King Aegon Targaryen, Fourth of his name. But only Dunk, Egg, and Egg's father know Egg's true identity. You may remember in Game of Thrones, when Maester Aemon was dying he was talking to his little brother, Egg, that's this Aegon.
    So we will also get to see a young Maester Aemon, and I am hoping we also get to see a young Lady Olenna Tyrell. I think that's who Maester Aemon was referring to when he told Sam he had once been in love.
    On a side note, Ser Duncan the Tall is the grandfather of Hodor and great-grandfather of Brienne of Tarth.

Rhaenyra is no longer the one who seeks freedom, its Alicent. And Alicent is no longer the one who feels the need to follow the path laid out for her, Rhaenyra does. Though I wanted more from the last episode of the season, it did prepare us for a HUGE season 3.

    Thing you both have to remember is during the filming of this season, Hollywood was deep into the writer's strike, then the actor's struck in solidarity. Nothing could be done as far as story was concerned on this show because the writers are situated in the United States. The UK actors on this show are not part of the US actor's strike, therefore, they continued working through the double strikes. After they all returned to work, HOTD was almost done filming, so whatever we got was due to the strikes and therefore impacted what they could and could not do on this show.

    Unless you wanted this episode to be the end of the story, there was no other way to leave us which is a huge set up on the board, all pieces in place. If they got into the final battle for checkmate, it would leave us with that loathed cliffhanger and an even more agonizing wait. This finale progressed the story and goosebumps from the scene where Daemon bent the knee. That was most satisfying. Doesn’t always have to be big bloody battles with dragon fire which will be coming.

If Aemond needs more dragon riders, then he should adopt Rhaenyra's idea. At least, Aemond still has his younger brother(Daeron) along with his dragon. I'm just saying the show hasn't really made a point of framing her like that, and she hasn't done anything objectively that bad yet. 25:16, the Three Eyed Raven has a winestain birthmark on his face in the books, but the show ignored it because D&D are morons.
    I actually am disgusted both by Alicent and Rhaenyra at the ending after that meeting. Alicent for throwing her son under the bus, but also Rhaenyra for her shrieking "You're still defending him!"about Aegon and demanding Alicent say aloud that she sentences her boy to death(Ironic, given that Rhaenyra defended Luke for carving out Aemond's eye and was more annoyed that Aemond called her sons bastards(truthfully).
    I would understand if she demanded Aemond's head. Aemond is a huge threat, not to mention a)he killed Luke and b)he killed Rhaenys and Melys, which would make Lord Corlys turn his back on her and recall his armies and fleets. But Aegon? He's burned and crippled. He didn't deserve to be chosen as the fall guy by both factions. I was hoping after Alicent said "A son for a son", Rhaenyra would realize that she hadn't punished Daemon for having a child killed and she'd decide Aemond was the one to have executed. Rhaenyra sucks.
