Doc its so good to see another interesting and inspiring video from you. I hope we get at least SOME actual backstory for her not just the great deeds she did.
Gusty the great probably doesn't have to be an alicorn to be the princesses' parent, because alicorn wings are usually earned, not inherited. In the episode where we first found out that flurryheart was a unicorn, I remember Luna saying something like, "The birth of an alicorn is something equestria has never seen" this means that luna and celestia might not have been born as alicorn, which means that Gusty can be their ancestor/parent?
One thing I am convinced of is that Gusty appears to have some sort of wind or sky element. That would explain the wavy man and the fact Gusty is seen galloping across the sky rather then flying.
Yeah, the idea of Celestia and Luna being the daughters of Gusty The Great sounds interesting. I'm still hoping for some mention of the royal sisters' parents this season.
gusty's g1 personality was basically like rainbow dash, being brash, brave, very action-oriented, can be a bit rude(see the episode "crunch the rockdog" to see he being rude to wind whistler(i think her g4 counterpart is windy whistles, rainbow's mom))her magic, as her name suggests is basically wind:)
Why does everyone forget taht mistmane has a wavy mane. And there's the matter of people asking about what can the bell do can it fuse creatures together or does it inhance ones magical abilities beyond their limit
Has everyone forgotten about mistmane? She has moving hair and a curved horn. And she’s just a unicorn and not the only one like that if you remember her backstory in the camp story episode.
Imagine if it had been or if she shows up in g5 and then revealed that she was actually both the g1 original Gusty and Celestia/Luna's mother... (also turning out to be Majesty' daughter)...?
3:41 I was gonna type that but you beat me to it lol. She does look like she could be a hybrid and it would be really cool story building. 4:44 and if they were her daughter: that might help explain a bit of why Starswirl is interested in them and how they could be so powerful. Also if Gusty were part Kirin and therefore Celestia and Luna... that would explain why the leader of the Kirin's looks like Celestia.... and why she's so big (well it could be that she's an alicorn who is at the very least, a thousand years old, but let's just play with the thought for a little bit). Perhaps they and the Kirin Queen (I forgot her name...) are related? It'd be an interesting point at least. What do you think?
I actually thought about Mist Main. She has a curved horn, flowing main and tail, a cutie mart, and is very magically gifted. Maybe Gusty the Great was someone that was from the land that Mist Main was from?
For information here is the story reproduced exactly as it appears on the ponies' backcards, Way up in the trees, the leaves had put on their autumn coats and Gusty was thrilled. "I love fall colors - orange, red and yellow!" Dancing happily. Gusty whirled through the colorful treetops. Suddenly a wild wind whistled through the sky and the leaves were yanked from their trees. They fluttered down and lay lifeless on the ground. "Back up there! Go back up!" Taking a deep breath, Gusty puckered her lips and blew on the leaves. At Gusty's magical command, the leaves happily swirled around and returned to their home. With a name like that and huge magic potential, I would be shocked if her maine didn't flow like Mist-Manes! As for Luna and Celestia's background? We all know that *Fausticorn* , as the first true alicorn, created them. And they better not mess with that head cannon or I'll harrumph like no ones business!
I believe Gusty from mlp G1 is the same one as the leyend Grogar is telling in G4. I’m guessing Gusty evolved as she got more powerful just like when Twilight got her wings, Gusty’s form could’ve changed. Also, in every legend storytelling the illustrations are exact as in real life. That’s why I believe it to be true…
If they bring back Gusty for G4 and have her make quotes like "Ay Caramba" or "Don't have a cow man", I swear to God, I am jumping out of a goddamn window.
I... highly doubt the writers would do that if they were gonna bring Gusty back from FiM. It doesn't seem like a thing they'll do. Hell, it's more likely they would be able to get Gusty's original voice actress for auditions if she was gonna be in this season.
But... What if Gusty was neither an ancestor or the mother of the Royal Sisters? Suppose for some reason she left Equestria and never returned. Making Grogar unaware that Gusty had a foreign descendant, one of his/her only kind, that was sent to Equestria to divert an ever-threatening war of 400 years by finishing what she started. But then, in a turn of fateful events, most of the older characters (the Royal Sisters, Discord, Pillars, and even Grogar) feel his/her presence upon reveal. My idea for this character is that: he/she is a master shapeshifter, can use the Staff of Saconas and turn it into it's true form: the Axecalibur, has a tragic backstory concerning his past and says what really happened to Gusty, and (I know it's cliched but, even I had originally had this idea before) Twilight starts to develop feeling she has never had before (maybe except for Flash Sentry, but you get the idea). Ideal voice acting roll: If it's a he: Taron Egerton. If it's a she: I'd guess Lady Gaga (because of the 2018 A Star Is Born movie). My guess is as good as yours, because I don't know what the writers are going to pull off with Gusty here either.
(Looks like many others have already pointed out Mist Mane.) Maybe Sombra is actually Gusty's Descendant, hence the reason for his powers? Without an actual show-canon backstory, we don't know if he's always looked like that, with the curved horn and wavy mane/tail...
The rest of the comments are right. Imperial unicorns such as Mistmane and Sable Spirit had curved horns and Mistmane had a flowing mane, making it far more likely Gusty's related to Mistmane. Also, about G1 Gusty, there wasn't a lot of characterisation for ponies in My Little Pony n' Friends but her main magic was wind-based; it let her create powerful gusts of wind, explaining the winds on Mt. Everhoof, possibly.
4:17 Did you forget Mistmane (or however you spell it)? She has a curved horn, and a wavey mane and tail. It's possible that Gusty was from her generation, or maybe a little before.
*me befoure watching finale of MLP* - Yay! New video about Grogar! Milion theories in my head! *me after finale of MLP* Fuck!!! I can't... Oh.... Heart attack.... Help... Oh my god... This is... God damn it... Sweet Celestia...
gusty Starsworals sister? A descendant of Daring DO? she never could best Grogar, his words. his current power is a fraction of what it was, Gusty fought him to a draw how powerful does that make her when he was at his full potential. to me, it rivals Discord or Celestia and Luna, or Twilight when she Fought Tirek. my thoughts, place a silence spell around him to neutralize all his bells.
I'd love to see Gusty the Great somehow make a real appearance in the show... I mean, they managed to ressurect Starswirl the Bearded, even though he lived a thousand years ago. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to see Gusty through some time-travel, a magical projection or even a flashback potion (like in season 4 opening). Her being Celestia and Luna's ancestor would've been a SUPER cool plot twist.
If Gusty is Starlight's mother or Starlight is from Gusty's descent that is impossible but there is no impossible in MLP because: Flash Magnus = Flash Sentry. Nimbus Dash = Rainbow Dash.
With the curved horn and flowing mane I think the image they showed of Gusty looks a lot like Mistmane. Quite a while ago I made a Top 10 list of characters from G1 MLP that I wanted to see in G4, and Grogar and Gusty were at the top of the list. I was so thrilled when they introduced Grogar and worked Gusty into his backstory!
I like the idea of a direct lineage to the sisters, ancestor or parent. You voiced my thoughts about Cozy Gliw when she first appeared outside the CMC treehouse. That cane to furition. If Gusty makes an appearence, it would be awesome if they could get Nancy Cartwright to voice her. Something else not totally related, I find it interesting Harminy has chosen the firm of Twilight as an avatar.
Well, Celestia and Luna aren't the only ponies to have flowing manes, and there is a pony who also has a curved horn. Mistmane, one of the pillars of Equestria. In the season 7 episode "Campfire Tales", when we're shown Mistmane's homeland, we see that every single unicorn there (even though everyone there is a unicorn) has a curved horn, but Mistmane's mane is the only one that moves on its own. Not even her family's manes flow naturally. So it leads me to believe that Gusty and Mistmane have some kind of connection.
I came up with a rather dark theory that Chrysalis is Gusty; after defeating Grogar she was cursed by him to become Chrysalis, so she imprisoned herself in the tree that Starswirl found in IDW. Also would explain why her magic could be used to open the barrier around the bell.
What if mist main's and the royal sisters ancestor is gusty the great. Wavy hair? Yes. Protected Equestria? Yes. Magically gifted? Yes. Smart and talented? Yes Is unicorn or was before becoming a unicorn? I think so.
She could be an "eastern" style unicorn like Mistmane; she had both the flowing, ethereal mane and a curved horn similar to what we see in the image of Gusty the Great in Grogar's tale about how she took his bell.
A lot of 'ancient heroes' in Equestria, aren't there? We had The Pillars, Scorpan, Clover the Clever, and now we have Gusty. Hope they make an actual appearance in the show before it ends!
I've seen a bunch of other comments about Mistmane and her village. That's got me wondering, how relatively close is Mistmane's old village from the Kiren? Even if it is some distance away then there could still be some distant relative blood handed down and we know Mistmane herself gave up a fair bit of her power to restore her village. If Gusty is not related to the Royal Sisters, then she's probably some relation to Mistmane, unless Gusty could be related to both? If anyone would know, it would be Starswirl the bearded (now there's an idea for a Dr Wolf therapy session. Discussing how things have changed and for both the Dr and the Wizard) But no matter what the truth turns out to be, one thing we can say for sure is that Gusty clearly had a very high power level of magic to cast those spells to help her steal Grogar's bell and kept him at bay. Near Alicorn level at least. Which reminds me of another near alicorn level unicorn. Starlight Glimmer. I'm not suggesting that Starlight could be a descendant, only that a normal unicorn can active immense power levels without any magic assistance. If you were to amplify someone of Starlight's power with, for example, the Alicorn Amulet (whose origins, as far as i know, are unknown). Then It would be perfectly possible for Gusty to have performed such great magic and become an ancestor of Mistmane and/or the princesses. Although that would not explain why the Princesses horns are not curved, unlike Mistmane and the rest of her village.
I'm along with the theory that Gusty is part unicorn and part kirin; on how she was so powerful her father might of been a talented Unicron and her mother a very talented Kirin.
Well if you want to compare gen one ponies and gen 4 ponies, start with good ole Apple Jack, and Spike.....Also if you ever watched Tiny Toons, the voice for Buster Bunny and Gen 1 Spike are same.
I know I'm very late to the comments, but I was surprised by an omission in your video (and no mention of it in the comments that I found.) We do have another reference to Gusty the Great in G4. In the episode "A Flurry of Emotions" the storybook Twilight borrows from Cherilee to read to the sick foals is the legend of Gusty the Great. In it, she reads about Gusty leading her unicorn warriors to try and reach Cloudsdale on-hoof. On the way they encounter Geogar and combine their magic as one to attack him. (Sadly, that's all we get before Flurry Heart's meltdown interrupts.) It makes me curious if Gusty was taking her warriors to attack Cloudsdale or to aid it, as it seems to be before Equestria's founding. I also wonder if that was the battle where Gusty stole the Bewitching Bell. Perhaps if I ever get through my current backlog of story ideas I'll see what I can do with it in a story.
Her horn on the cover of the book in Flurry of Emotions is straight but notched and also quite long. I believe she's a full-blooded unicorn but thousands of years ago unicorn horns looked very different. I mean, Mistmane's horn is longer and more curved than gusty's. Is it possible the unicorn horns as we know them are a bred trait?
I can’t help remembering G1 Gusty, who was a Unicorn ... she was voiced by the same lady who voice Bart Simpson?! *Mind blown* 😮😮😮 But in regards to Celestia and Luna ... anyone else remember the two-part episode Flurry Heart was born? This line of dialogue was spoken by Celestia; “The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen!” “Something that *Equestria* has never seen“, so I still believe Celestia and Luna to be “true Alicorns” but Flurry Heart is the first to actually be *born* in Equestria! Thank you for sharing your thoughts like always Dr Wolf 💙=^_^=💙
I think that Gusty the Great along with Clover the Clever were students of Starswirl the Bearded back when the ponies were still divided into three tribes. When they arrived in the land that would be Equestria, they soon encountered the ruler of it, Grogar who was more than happy to let them stay so his monsters could fill them with fear to feed on, till Gusty stole his bell.
I see lots of people saying Mistmane Mistmane over and over, but if you take a closer look, you'll see what he's trying to say. Gusty's horn starts of curving back, like Mistmane or Sombra, but curves slightly forward at the tip. This more resembles kirin's and not any unicorn horn we've seen. It curves TWICE. The waving mane I have no rebuttal for.
She's probably dead from old age, being not an alicorn and all. And you can only pull time shenanigans for so many characters before it stretches belief.
Hey doc, you forgot that mist mane both has wavy hair and a different style of horn compared to other unicorns seeing as how her culture is based off of Asian interpretations of the unicorn while starlight, Trixie, sunset, rarity and all other unicorns we have seen that have made prominent roles or appearances are based off of the European interpretation of the unicorn, thus the difference in there horn designs and there hair. For all we know it could be mist mane who is the descendent of gusty and not the royal sisters, would explain why mist mane was also recruited to be a pillar and not just because of what we already know, plus the way grogar’s bell chain is designed looks like something you would find in a village up in the Middle East or even in the Himalayas, just food for thought.
What about mistmane who has a curved horn and flowing hair also if I remember correctly wasn't she pretty powerful she was a pillar after all so you could assume that gusty was like her great great grandma????
What if Gusty's appearance in the images we see are not correct? What if Gusty the Great happened to be an ancestor of Twilight herself, and that's why Grogar is so set on destroying Twilight and her friends, because Gusty was the however many greats grandmother to Twilight Sparkle herself? It may not explain the curved horn, but it may be why Grogar is set on getting rid of Twilight rather than Celestia and Luna first.
The idea of Gusty being the mother of the royal sisters is very intriguing. Even if she didn't have wings in Grogar's flashback, it may be that stealing his bell and successfully keeping it from him was a great enough feat to cause her to ascend. As we've seen, an ascended alicorn can produce an alicorn foal. So that fits with the theory that Gusty was the mother of the royal sisters. The curved horn and flowing mane and tail may be traits more common to Eastern unicorns like Mistmane. If Gusty was an Eastern unicorn or had an Eastern family background, then those traits wouldn't be so unusual.
nah dawg, there are a race of ponies that do have curved horns, and those are the ones that Mistmane comes from. Those ponies are more asian in nature and have more asian unicorn features which include a curved horn. Mistmane has that AND the wavy mane, so my guess would be that Gusty was from the asian unicorn side, and was an upgraded version, like Mistmane, to have a wavy mane.
I believe Gusty was likely either the mother or grandmother of Celestia and Luna. The facts really do seem to add up. The magic barrier protecting Grogar's bell is yellow, which means Gusty likely had yellow magic too, just like Celestia! Also, perhaps maybe she got her wings and became an Alicorn for the great deed of weakening Grogar.
I feel like all of this happened so long ago, she couldn't have been the mother of Celestia and Luna. Even if there is relation, I just feel as if it'd be a long line of ancestors. I'm thinking more she's the metaphorical "Mother of Heroism", as Grogar is called the "Father of Monsters". A legendary hero from a time long ago. As for the aestetics, her flowing mane and tail could just be this worlds equivilant to a flowing cape, signifying greatness. That they're someone special. "Wind blows on greatness". The horn may also just be part of the artistic interpretation, making her more distinct.
Compromise. Gusty is half kirin because Kirin don't have cutie marks. Also Mistmane has a flowing mane. I assumed flowing manes are a sign of incredible magical ability/something... but Starswirl doesn't have it.
I never saw G1 MLP either, but I learned that there were some names I found very familiar in the voice cast. e.g. Rob Paulsen, Charlie Adler, Scott Menville, Russi Taylor, and Frank Welker and ,of course, Nancy Cartwright. Interesting!
Doctor Wolf, you make good points but you forgot about Mistmane the pillar of harmony who is connected to Raritys element of generosity. Her mane and tail billow & flow like the two sisters. Perhaps it was her ancestor who sealed Grogars power. She has a curved horn & slightly curved ears as well.
My guess is that Gusty was a pony of similiar origin as Mistmane. The 'eastern' ponies do have curved horns, and Mistmane also has a flowing mane and tail. True, the ears are a little different, but that's just one detail against this theory, while the potential Kirin origin has at least 3. Heck, Gusty could actually be an ancestor of Mistmane as well.
To be direct. I believe it would be best to keep customers happy with the product they purchased. So keeping the original Gusty would be more appropriate an get others to get a new version is sold. So they have both versions.
Also after watching flurry of emotions it occurred to me that gusty could have been the ancestor of flurry or perhaps cadence as they all have the same color of magic
they get curly hair if they have a large amount of magic. I don’t think it’s directly correlated to genetics. At the end of the series, Twilight gets the curly hair after becoming ruler and we know she isn’t related to Celestia or Luna. Mistymane also has the same hair but she isn’t related either, as far as we know
I had an idea so hear me out she used to be one of the monsters but when she found the pony’s civilisation was at stake she saw the monster that he really was so she decided to save all the ponies and maybe this is how all the creatures started coming to war because gusty saved the ponies but others at stake were left to suffer Like if you agree and have more ideas for my theory
I think it’s possible that Gusty and Mistmare are related. They are both Unicorn hybrids, they both have flowing manes. So it’s possible that they could be related.

1:02 "That would be a tall order"
You rang? lol
XD
One of the pillars has a curve horn and wave hair
Doc its so good to see another interesting and inspiring video from you.
I hope we get at least SOME actual backstory for her not just the great deeds she did.
Yea Nancy Cartwright's been voicing characters way before Bart, you should look up the characters she's voiced if you already haven't.
That would explain the wavy man and the fact Gusty is seen galloping across the sky rather then flying.
oh crap Gusty's a Windwalker
Well, her name pretty much gives it away doesn't it?
Well yes. Gusty can shoot wind out of her horn.
Mistmane has a flowy mane and curved horn too
Yeah, the idea of Celestia and Luna being the daughters of Gusty The Great sounds interesting. I'm still hoping for some mention of the royal sisters' parents this season.
There isn't any mention of them in the series
maybe gusty the great is a eastern unicorn but the eastern pony’s sacrifice there crystal hearts to banish grogar into a stone 1000k years
Grogar: *”I will create an indomitable army of monsters, and I will use them to conquer earth and be its supreme ruler.”*
Gusty: “Eat my shorts.”
Gusty might be a eastern unicorn for that curved horn
True but we still don't know if she's really that powerful to defeat Grogar and if she's still alive or not somewhere.
Or a different twist, Gusty is an ancestor of Cozy Glow.
Dun Dun DUN! XD
gusty's g1 personality was basically like rainbow dash, being brash, brave, very action-oriented, can be a bit rude(see the episode "crunch the rockdog" to see he being rude to wind whistler(i think her g4 counterpart is windy whistles, rainbow's mom))her magic, as her name suggests is basically wind:)
Grogar: Last time on Dragonball Super...
Gusty: Eat my shorts!
Eat my shorts!?
I think you mean *Kiss my flank*
0:42
Sooooooo.....does this mean Gusty the Great told Grogar, "Eat my shorts" when she stole the Bewitching Bell?
eAT PANT
Why does everyone forget taht mistmane has a wavy mane.
And there's the matter of people asking about what can the bell do
can it fuse creatures together or does it inhance ones magical abilities beyond their limit
What if gusty is a Umbrum that was cast out by the other umbrum because she had light magic not dark magic
4:14 Sombra has a wavy tail and mane
On wavy mane and tail you’d forgotten about mist mane
And Stygian's horn is a little curved too. And since Star Swirl is so powerful too, why doesn't his mane and tail have the waviness too?
@@artemisia3138 Twilight and Star Swirl are around the same amount in power as said by the Pony of Shadows. So..
For information here is the story reproduced exactly as it appears on the ponies' backcards,
Way up in the trees, the leaves had put on their autumn coats and Gusty was thrilled.
Hell, it's more likely they would be able to get Gusty's original voice actress for auditions if she was gonna be in this season.
well I would not jump out of a window.....I would be unable to stop laughing...in other words I would go crazy/mad....by laughing.
Everhoof, possibly.
i have to do it.
"Damn faithless Imperials!" Random Stormcloak PONY. XD
Spoken like a true FiM idiot. Anyone who says shit like that has never bothered to watch the series.
*me after finale of MLP*
Fuck!!! I can't...
I think shes possibly the mother or mentor to Mistmane
Or
Shes an ancient breed of unicorns
Perhaps we might finally see Scorpan
I'd love to see Gusty the Great somehow make a real appearance in the show... I mean, they managed to ressurect Starswirl the Bearded, even though he lived a thousand years ago. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to see Gusty through some time-travel, a magical projection or even a flashback potion (like in season 4 opening). Her being Celestia and Luna's ancestor would've been a SUPER cool plot twist.
If Gusty is Starlight's mother or Starlight is from Gusty's descent that is impossible but there is no impossible in MLP because:
Flash Magnus = Flash Sentry.
Gusty shares the curved horn and flowy tail with Mistmane, so she may be from the same village or even related to her.
Yes
Is unicorn or was before becoming a unicorn? I think so.
She could be an "eastern" style unicorn like Mistmane; she had both the flowing, ethereal mane and a curved horn similar to what we see in the image of Gusty the Great in Grogar's tale about how she took his bell.
Gusty is obviously a very interesting character, but we know her a little. It would be wonderful to know her backstory better.
A mix breed maybe?
(Edit) ohhh you mention that
She's probably from the same eastern territory as Mistmane. The unicorns there have curved horns, and Mistmane herself had an ethereal mane and tail.
A lot of 'ancient heroes' in Equestria, aren't there? We had The Pillars, Scorpan, Clover the Clever, and now we have Gusty. Hope they make an actual appearance in the show before it ends!
Ponies occasionally get their traits from their counterparts. Gusty could share her ability with g1 gusty, wind magic.
Discussing how things have changed and for both the Dr and the Wizard)
But no matter what the truth turns out to be, one thing we can say for sure is that Gusty clearly had a very high power level of magic to cast those spells to help her steal Grogar's bell and kept him at bay.
(Sadly, that's all we get before Flurry Heart's meltdown interrupts.)
It makes me curious if Gusty was taking her warriors to attack Cloudsdale or to aid it, as it seems to be before Equestria's founding.
*Mind blown* 😮😮😮
But in regards to Celestia and Luna ... anyone else remember the two-part episode Flurry Heart was born? This line of dialogue was spoken by Celestia;
“The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen!”
“Something that *Equestria* has never seen“, so I still believe Celestia and Luna to be “true Alicorns” but Flurry Heart is the first to actually be *born* in Equestria!
Did grogar really loose power or did the bell just restrain his op power to prevent him from going out of control
When Twilight is reading to lil ponies in hospital (its Gustyn the Great)
nah dawg, there are a race of ponies that do have curved horns, and those are the ones that Mistmane comes from.
Could only be mares. Stallions don't have it.
@@Secret_Moon Oh good point. I did not actually think of that.
Gusty is just a normal unicorn
Judging by that still shot of Gusty the Great, she appears to be some sort of eastern pony, kinda like Mistmane?
Also after watching flurry of emotions it occurred to me that gusty could have been the ancestor of flurry or perhaps cadence as they all have the same color of magic
“Maybe that’s why Grogar is returning and finding power again”
Or, y’know, it’s just Discord in a furry suit
they get curly hair if they have a large amount of magic. I don’t think it’s directly correlated to genetics. At the end of the series, Twilight gets the curly hair after becoming ruler and we know she isn’t related to Celestia or Luna. Mistymane also has the same hair but she isn’t related either, as far as we know
Since g4 and g5 are connected is gusty causes gen 5?
All the legends that have been talked about came back so it is perfectly possible that we are going to see her.
I had an idea so hear me out she used to be one of the monsters but when she found the pony’s civilisation was at stake she saw the monster that he really was so she decided to save all the ponies and maybe this is how all the creatures started coming to war because gusty saved the ponies but others at stake were left to suffer
Like if you agree and have more ideas for my theory
Everyone always forgets about the original Elements. Mistmane and others from her land especially.
I think it’s possible that Gusty and Mistmare are related. They are both Unicorn hybrids, they both have flowing manes. So it’s possible that they could be related.
