I like this one, sound effects, (cheap) makeup and solid prop effects are combined to make an unnerving, weird occult, fantastical horror thriller, with some original ideas and most importantly NOT based on any existing work!
The narration is nonlinear, but at all times clear, yet I think the murderer is more creepy than truly horrific or dangerous.
It also bothered me that the explanation of the symbols & orb was nearly nonexistent. But Imma watch it a few more times anyway.
The sad thing is, you'll not get the same great disturbing feelings watching it at home, but for this small budget it really is a great movie!

The scene I can't get out of my head is the flashback showing how the mom went from I'm doing this shit for my daughter, to slowly I'm doing this shit for satan. The cinematography of that flashback is straight out of a metal music video, which explains why it is my favorite part, but it doesn't explain why it is also the scene that creeped me out the most 😂 I've seen imagery like that hundreds of times, like Forgotten by The Plot In You, or New Dawn by Oceans Ate Alaska, I can keep listing all day, idk why that flashback disturbed me so much lol. I'm gona make that shot of the mom covered in blood with her arms out my wallpaper lol

I've seen Longlegs twice now. Excellent horror movie. I think it's Oz's best film so far. Both times, my audiences (Toronto) were super quiet. You could feel the tension in the air.
As much as I love Longlegs though, my fav horror of 2024 is still Abigail. What a deliriously entertaining movie.

    IN PERSON YESSSSSSS
matt brought up collider nightmares and im kind of shocked no ones done a horror centric show like that since, esp considering how big horror has been as a movie genre the past couple years-it seems like the only genre to consistently outperform BO expectations (just look at longlegs)

The4 author of "Wild Robot" started as a children's illustrator with the hit Halloween book, "Creepy Carrots." Wild Robot now has 3 books in the series. I was impressed how close the animators were to his distinctive style.

Genuinely surprise that people found the movie disturbing with so many more horrible things going on on the world. It was the Insidious with better visuals and pretty predictable. You knew the protagonist had the demon inside from the minute 15 and although the second part was pretty solid, the third part take those elements and solve it in a cliché way that even franchises with more longevity are departing from.

Basement reveal didn’t even register with me because my mind was thinking about so many other things. Read about it afterwards and was so haunted haha.

The procedural and cat and mouse elements work for me, and although im not a fan of the personal connection, the motive and intention is hinted from the very beginning with the mention of Hydra.

Too much of a slow burn that doesn’t really payoff at the end. The whole movie is just a set up for the reveal/plot twist.
So, the mom keeps asking if the daughter prayed is a misdirect?

Have to disagree with you that the discussion on whether the movie is scary as you say "dumb". The movie was being presented as "the scariest movie in the last decade". Early reviewers kept using hyperbolic words to describe how it was going make you S your pants in fear. I wouldn't call this movie a horror movie or even scary. Saying it is scariest movie in the last decade is way over the top.
I really liked the movie but don't think people should be selling it as something it isn't. I've seen enough of your reviews of your reviews to not expect something you say is scary will be scary to me. Other people will be more in line with you and think this is scary. Everyone is different, we all have different taste and horror can be subjective. Surely you can understand other people won't find the scary? This is why saying the discussion on if the movie is horror isn't dumb. It is only dumb if you think we are all borg and think the same.

For me it completely jumped the shark at the end and lost steam as the movie went on. Nic cage performance was good yes but what Matt loved about the performance was the things that I didn’t like. The singing and yelling was the same stuff he always does. The make up wasn’t even scary to me. He looked like john travolta in hairspray just more white. Add the singing and yelling and I was laughing when he was on screen instead of being disturbed. Maika was good but his character was so wooden to me with no emotion I couldn’t connect to her at all. As soon as we saw Blair underwood family I knew what would happen at the end would happen. It was a okay movie at best to me 6/10

Longlegs is sooo derivative and predictable how can you consider it "unique" and truly like nothing you've ever seen in a horror movie? That sounds fake, bought, or is incompetent criticism. Silence of the Lambs? Seven? The abundance of movies that use the central trope as a tool in it? The acting was great but the movie slows to a crawl enough to see it all coming. You sound like an employee of the marketing machine which overhyped this movie. It was a good movie but closer to a student film version of Silence & a Fincher movie with cliche imagery & unearned jump scares sprinkled in and only effective by the cheap trick of cranking the sound up. *One of the biggest tells is the choice of the overused echo chamber buzzword "unsettling". When reviewing horror the scare experience has to be addressed and "unsettling" is synonymous to soft-core when it comes to a horror descriptor.

Unique crappy for sure. People who find it disturbing can't be true fans of the genre. Nicholas Cage almost saves it with his acting, but it was a pretencious Silence of the Lamb wannabe with no pay off. Like the end was so slow, so predictable and so boring that the most scary thing about it is that it has 85% in rotten tomatoes.
