    I really like the Artisul D16. The number one thing I look for in a pen display is how smooth the lines are when I'm drawing and in the D16's case they are really smooth. Like Wacom smooth. Check out my review for more details.

    I just bought this for 219 USD which was a HUGE bargain! It seems like maybe they updated it too! Since on their site where they sell it, it now says they have 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity.
    I don’t mind the lack of tilt recognition or the resolution at all, since I used to draw on a super outdated graphics tablet that has no screen. Anything is better than that! I see this as a mid-level upgrade. And the value is great.

      That's the Artist 16 Pro, right? There are two 15.6" models: the Artist 16 Pro and the Artist 15.6.
      I've got a defective Artist 13, and I'd like to replace it with the 15.6, as it's only $20 more. But Amazon doesn't have it in stock (I'm a Prime member). They also don't have the 16 Pro in stock. :( The 16 Pro definitely catches my attention, but the battery stylus pushes me away.

    Whatttt. No jitter, no diagonal wobble, AND good initial activation pressure?! Keeping this specific tablet in mind, thanks so much for another thorough review, Brad!
    Working with the Cintiq 13HD for so long has made me not care about parallax at all since my eyes naturally track where the cursor lands on the canvas anyway (though I get why people are bothered by it). Gonna miss the gorgeous tilt function in Corel Painter's pencils, hoping that by the time my Cintiq dies a natural death, one of these more affordable alternatives will finally have tilt. I can learn to work without it, though.

    I wonder if Wacom will wake up on price and accessories? These companies may start as budget alternatives, but the better tablets may become serious alternatives for even the high end pro users.
    One thing I noticed about the minimal parralex ( how do you spell that?) on the newer cintiqs that kinda bothers me... the eraser. It is so thick on the Wacom pen it is hard to see eraser placement on the screen if you use the back of the pen. For now i just use the front tip and switch manually. Seems like an obvious thing that many they may change. Anyhoo..Great vid as usual!

    • @snoozyA113

      Dag Nabit I think they’ll catch the message sooner or later. Apple had already figured out how to have great pressure sensitivity with their pencil. Along with little to no parallax, and pen tilt. Soon these alternative brands will also close the gap with high quality products at a lower price. Only time will tell though!

    • @mazditzo
      @mazditzo 6 лет назад

      well I believe lifetime support and build quality+compatibility still the benefiting factor from wacom. I dtill drawing with my intuos 3 and cintiq 12wx, ( 12 nibs replaced) and still fully functional almost like a new (cosmetic wear only)

    This has me pumped... really think this is going to be my step into drawing on-screen tablets. Brad as always thanks for your reviews. I can genuinely say you are one of the most useful reviewers of products. Often times reviews end up being useless because a lot of people somehow manage not to look at or test products for things that humans do with those products and you're left with the same questions. Good job sir!

    Thank you for the great review! I wanted to buy the upcoming Artisul D22 but couldn't wait any longer so I got the Huion GT221 Pro and I think it's amazing! Looking at all the tablets you've reviewed this year, I have the feeling that many of them are not just alternatives, they are worthy competitors to the Cintiq...
    Just like we've seen many established Japanese electronic brands becoming irrelevant through the past 10 years, Wacom is no exception, yet they are still playing it fancy with their price tags, UC-Logic technology has been around since the late 90's and now it has reached full maturity. For how long are we going to give a shit about EMR Pen Technology? Wake up Wacom!

    I love all your video's Brad! And I love my Artisul D16! I liked my D10 but it was too small and wasn't even 1920x1080, so I got this. I really like the 16" size, it gives me plenty of room without being too big. I noticed that the pen from my D10 also works on my D16, so I use a soft nib in it and the harder nib in the pen that came with my d16 and have both pens available. Very cool.

      Hello how are you liking the parallax on the D16,does this tablet really suffer from the curser being several cm behind the pen tip? Supposedly if you draw a dot less than 2 cm it won't even register?

  • @Ragnorok64
    @Ragnorok64 6 лет назад +6

    I'm surprised this one only has 2048 pressure levels. I'd figured most of these Wacom alternative companies use like the same OEM internals. Since Gaomon as a 16" tablet with 8192 pressure levels and not long after Huion came out with a 16" with 8192 levels I expected Artisul, Parblo, XP Pen, Acepen, etc. to start putting out tablets with identical specs in the near future.

    • @limenzyme
      @limenzyme 6 лет назад +1

      I don't really know how much stock to put into the 8192 vs 2048 pressure levels thing. It seems like nothing more than a "hey we can do the same thing wacom does" kind of gesture to have 8192 levels. The pressure levels, considering that 2048 has been standard for like the past 5 years or more, are not going to be the deciding factor. Activation force and how consistently the pressure controls overall seems more important to me than just a pressure sensitivity spec. I also wouldn't really be that surprised if a lot of these companies were just accomplishing this 8192 metric by clever software scaling in the driver. I think some things these wacom alternatives could be doing is trying to get tilt functionality, or maybe adding a third button on the pen since wacom released a new pen with 3 buttons that's supposedly more suited towards working in 3DCG software. Making a 3 button pen a standard feature would probably be enticing to people who would otherwise be paying an extra 80 dollars for the pen on top of their expensive wacom purchase.

    • @fatihnri2484
      @fatihnri2484 6 лет назад

    I am a Windows 10 user and have had the Artisul D16 since it came out. The screen and color is pretty good. I watched every ones reviews for it and thought that it was great. I only had enough money to buy one tablet around $500. I am a poor art student. I bought the Artisul D16 and I regret it. From the very start it took me 4 days to get the drivers installed. I had to wait 2 days to hear back from the company. I had to search online for help. I found out that you have to manually delete some files that are deep in your computer. How the hell are you suppose to know that you have to do that? The drivers could not do that for you? I complained to the company and they pretty much gave me the finger and said deal with it. They want $50 for the stand (even though it comes with the monitor) It is shit. It wobbles and slides around on my desk. Some times when I turn my computer on the monitor screen will be blacked out. The power button will indicate that it is powered up. I then have to turn it off and turn it back on to get to act normal. Some times the drivers don't even start up. I then have to restart my computer to get the drivers to act right. I am left handed and when I had the tablet in left handed mode, the monitor would then have so much parallax that it was unusable. I calibrated the screen multiple time and it never got better. I later figured out that if I turn the monitor around to what it would be in right handed mode, set it to right handed mode and calibrate the screen with my right hand, the parallax was cut down by a lot. The good thing is that monitor is now usable. The bad thing is that I can't use the built in hot keys. The hotkeys are a complete waste to me now. Fuck Artisul and fuck the Artisul D16....the pen is pretty good.

    This looks really good!
    I had gotten the Artisul D10 last Christmas and it was a quality product! (for a while)
    Long term, on of the cords had broke so i had to order a replacement of that. Then later on down the line this past summer the drivers started acting really weird and the screen suddenly had two places where it would not let me draw vertical lines and where it would have like this skip from one part of the screen to the other (making it really difficult to draw because it was really small) which i think is dead pixels but i'm not really sure.
    I would still recommend Artisul for the quality that you are going to get over other companies; i just wish mine didn't have that screen skipping thing.

    I was considering getting one of these but I wanted to be sure that it would be supported under mojave and future versions of macOS. What bothered me was that apple are removing support for 32bit applications and code, apparently High Sierra will be the last macOS to run 32bit programs in an uncompromized way (whatever that means) so I downloaded the latest drivers for macOS and installed them. I immediately got the 'Not optimised' message so I checked the apps in system report and lo and behold both the control panel and driver are 32bit. I've been caught out by similar obsolete driver problems in the windows world before so I emailed UC logic technical support and asked whether a 64bit mac driver was in the works and explained why. Here's the entire response "We already doing 64bit driver.". Does that mean a driver is in the works or are they referring to the 64bit windows driver, is there a special hidden driver or is this just wrong? So I wrote back, this time with screen shots from system report ..... couple of days still waiting for a response... Either way I'm not buying a tablet that might no supported working driver in 3 to 15 months.

    Thanks for the review. In the future could you point out what the power plug situation is? If this thing requires no external power then that's a huge selling point for me.

    • @thebradcolbow
      @thebradcolbow  6 лет назад

      This one does need external power. The smaller one (the D13) doesn't need it and can run on the USB alone.

    Been using this for a year now and had a very2 frustrating experience with it. They boast about having the same driver technology as wacom but thats a huge lie. Their driver will fail everytime you restart or even plug in the device. You will either have to restart again and hope that it will somehow works now, or you have to reinstall the driver. I keep the driver on my desktop because i run it more often than i run photoshop. Usually i spent 30 minutes a day trying to fix this shit. The problem was reported on the forum but nothing has been done. Throughout this year, i've missed deadlines, lost projects and reputation because of this shit. Avoid it unless you're a hobbyist and have 30 minutes spare time everyday before starting to draw and hopefully, you'll still have your inspiration.

    • @thebradcolbow
      @thebradcolbow  6 лет назад +2

      It might not. Since pen drivers often conflict you might have to uninstall the drivers for your Surface pen to get one of these to work properly. I havn't tried it with this tablet but I have tried with others and have never gotten them to work properly.

    hi... I have read that if you trace a 1mm - 2mm line or a dot the tablet doesnt register it? I'm windows user. is that only happening in windows? or it was a glitch in legacy drivers?

      the true is that I dont remember. I was interested in this one also but purchased a used cintiq 13hd a friend sold to me. I recommend you to search in instagram " #artisuld13 ", and ask to the owners.. those who use this tablet every day. Sometimes reviews are not enough info.
