@Playfulpanthress You're right about Buttercup and the water, but Íñigo's name is Spanish (for "Fiery") and the "tilda" above the "n" makes it an "enya" and gives it a "ny" pronunciation. He's saying it just the way Mandy Patinkin says it in the film, just as "canyon" is spelled "cañon" in Spanish. I always say other movie companies (writers, producers, directors _et al)_ should study this film to see how action comedies should be made. In short, I love it. Stay safe.
nono the reason the boat "jumped" to her is because the grandfather paused reading, then accidentally reread parts, then skipped ahead slightly. the entire thing is based inside the narrative of a book, after all.
It doesn't really matter bcos all the events we see are what the boy is picturing in his head as his grandfather reads to him. Continuity has no place in that context
@@susie9893Is it weird I never put together that we were seeing inside the grandson’s imagination? I just thought we were seeing the contents of the book, but your comment made me realize that’s probably true; after all, when the grandfather starts reading the book again, and the grandson says he read that part already, it is the exact same part! Thanks for making this comment; I learned something new 😊
Or some scientist demanding that the Chronicles of Narnia be banned for portraying talking beavers as carnivores, serving cooked fish to the kids, because REAL beavers, although obviously very talkative and living in well furnished lodges, DO NOT eat fish, cooked or not......
Reading the book fills in Fezzik's backstory (incredibly well, and everyone else's backstories), how Inigo fares at the end, and more. It makes the movie even better!
@@kacychandler6094 that's funny. I thought the movie was much better, that much of the book was unnecessary. But to each their own, & nearly everyone has to like at least one or the other, right? It's very, very rare that I prefer a movie to the book that spawned it.
Vizzini did carry a bag up the cliffs which he clearly drops from his left shoulder at the 16-minute mark to cut the rope. Vizzini has the bag over his left shoulder once again when he says. " He didn't fall? Inconceivable." The same bag is seen resting at his feet in your very video from 5:41 - 5:57. "You fell victim to one of the classic blunders..."

I mourn for Looper that they apparently have neither read nor been read to enough to understand how this kind of storytelling works.
I had always assumed the same, that not only had Indigo survived, but became the next Dread Pirate Roberts, as Wesley suggested. However, the book ending, is fairly close to the same, except that it does have 2 ending. The author placed, "But here's what really happened..." and during that slightly more comical version, Indigo does survive, "until his wounds open up again..." This is not a direct quote and it has been several years since I have read the book, but even then, he doesn't die in that version, either. The Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie and this list is not really a list at all...it seemed too much for them...
If you remember, Queen Penelope waited for 20 years for Odysseus to come home and she hadn't remarried until she was forced into it by her suitors. So, Westley expecting/hoping for Buttercup to keep waiting for him isn't THAT big of an issue. If you have a strong enough love connection, your partner could wait for you as long as it took
On top of that she also demanded her suitors perform an exceptional, if not impossible, feat of skill with the axe handles so even when backed into a corner she was still like "nah, bro."
What I keep coming back to is the fact that it is heavily implied that Buttercup had no choice. It says that "the law of the land gave Prince Humperdinck the ability to choose his bride". It never ever says that she had to agree to it. In fact, I always saw it as he chose her and that was that. She had no choice
Hoping, yes; expecting, no. Much as I love this movie and the book, Westley was absolutely venomous toward Buttercup for not living up to his expectations. Viewed realistically (and not as the genius satire that it is), his attitude doesn't bode well for their future together.
Are you all Forgetting ..the dred pirate Robert's never leaves survivers and it was none that the vessel he was on was attacked by said pirate. She died that day.
My god, man, did you have a rough childhood? Did you even see this movie as a child? You have completely taken the enjoyment out of this movie. You've sucked the life out of it just as Westley's life was sucked out of him. Why? It is a fairytale movie. It's supposed to be a mess. It's a Fairytale!
As a person who uses ropes for a living being a tree removal specialist. You can feel any tug on ropes. It's not just flexible. But does carry motion so if something is happening at the end of a hundred foot rope you can feel it at other end especially when under a load most of my ropes are loaded between 2 to 4 ton for lead or climbing but bull ropes or load ropes are almost 30,000 lbs. You feel everything that happens on the rope.
Using that logic then, Westley would’ve felt the rope getting cut (which took a little bit) and gripped the side of the mountain before the rope fell, which makes sense. As to why he had rocks in his shoes, he could’ve gotten them from climbing up the last bit with Inigo pulling him up; any loose rocks could’ve ended up in his boots 😊
3:32 I thought the relationship between Inigo and Wesley was just excellent. They were pals instantly when they met. However, their friendship was simply very bad for their business. So, if they had to kill each other, they should do it in a chivalrous duel. Nothing tops that. 😉⚔ 1

I'm going to go ahead and say that there are so many dislikes already because the title is "Only Adults Notice" so it makes you think that you're going to show us some dirty scenes that we might just not have realized when we were kids. But that isn't the video, you are just pointing out inconsistencies and little plot holes. So yeah dislikes are because of the misleading title. not one of them, js.
Count Rugen, who had 11 of what normally numbers 10, was played by Christopher Guest. A few years earlier he had played a character who famously showed off that he had 11 of what normally numbers 10.
So, two points of connection to Spinal Tap. One visible before anything even gets started, and one in the plot of the movie. Well done, Misters Reiner & Guest.
Inigo had that leather vest, probably a layer or two of linen. Rugen didn’t seem to get a very strong throw with that dagger. I think it cut him, but it wasn’t too deep. Mostly knocked the wind out of him. Plus, we know Miracle Max is within a few hour’s ride of the castle. Indigo isn’t dying here, I don’t think.
Also, Inigo has been training for this moment for a ton of his life-from studying to practicing to adventuring. All while Rugen has been living the high life being an evil aide(?) to the Prince and giving orders. Of the two, Inigo has probably more of a hearty bodily defense against harm than Rugen.
Having done "man overboard" drills and other exercises to pick-up dropped cargo, one maneuvers the vessel to a position that the wind blows the ship/boat toward the person/object to be picked-up. One could include more details about maneuvering the ship, but why? It's the sort of technical accuracy that doesn't fit. As Harrison Ford said to Mark Hamill about a minor continuity issue, "It's not that kind of movie, kid."
"Adult" is such a loaded term. Please change the title to "Adult with brain damage" or "Adult with learning disability ". Both of these would help qualify the title and give the viewership a better idea of what is about to unfold.
Inigo probably didn't die. Unless you believe ALL abdominal wounds are exactly alike. Inigo was only hit by half the dagger blade, probably didn't get past his abdominal wall, whereas the Count was ran through with at least half of Inigos' sword. The arm wounds weren't arterial so they too were survivable.
Don't watch this video. Even when I was a teenager watching this I recognized that you don't question movie fantasy, you enjoy the ride. This isn't anything a child wouldn't notice, I noted all of that just fine, I just didn't, and don't, care to concern myself with minor plot holes while watching a fantasy movie filled with mystical magic and meanings. Not to mention it being the greatest love story ever told... hopefully tomorrow, I'll be able to watch it again. As I wish.
Boots full of rocks -> "We may never know". Those are called jokes. The guy climbed a rocky cliff. His boots are full of rocks like they would of sand. It doesn't make sense, it's non-sensical humor, and it's funny. That's what an adult might notice when they forget about humor.
The book is wrapped as a birthday gift. He even mentions birthday boy. As for the albino, you missed where they mentioned leaving the wheelbarrow over the albino. So possibly indicating that he did die.
This is a dumb analysis. The Princess Bride is a reading of a book. Showing the plot holes or continuity errors in how the tale is being portrayed to the audience forgets this important distinction.
I always just assume the "land war in Asia" line goes over the heads of most kids watching it, especially those born well after this movie's initial release.
It certainly went over my head as a child, I didn't get it till I was a late teen (not being American, and Vietnam not being anywhere near my generation - I eventually realised thru watching reruns of MASH 😂). But I think that just proves how multi generational this movie is
Its a fairy tale. I expected a video that as more on its satire and parody of fairy tales and adventure stories and more of a film essay than a nit picky video. Some choices were made for comedic purposes and to further the plot instead. I have been a fan of this movie since I was a child and watched it multiple times as an adult and don't spend my time nitpicking a perfectly entertaining story.
The author of this channel must be fun at parties. Also, what you call plot holes are actually Rob Reiner's brand of slapstick comedy blended with subtle humor.
Climbing the rope was done to set up tension for the sword fight. Also, presumably it could have served as a shortcut or a way to throw potential followers off their track by not taking the conventional route. Depending on how deep the thrown knife wound was Inigo could have survived it. plus inigo skewered the count so it was hardly a superficial wound by comparison to his own.
In the first one that you said it was a Christmas Time movie you failed to reveal that in the end the grandfather told his grandson shalom. That would most likely make family Jewish. Though there are variants and the grandsons parent could be of a different faith but Grandpa gave him a book wrapped in Christmas paper. Odd
🤷♀️ But we can *say* it's a Christmas movie and add it to the list of movies we'd rather subject the family to than the majority of Christmas movies out there. I could bear to make this movie an annual tradition (even though I know it by heart)
Umm, did you not notice the backpack/bag next to Vizzini during the "Battle of Wits"?!? That was where he got the wine, cheese, giblets and tablecloth. 😉
Oh, for pity's sake. It's a Fairytale wrapped in a touching, and itself amusing, familial story. Mentioning "Christmas" and flogging that point to death, then just burbling. I'm surprised that you didn't harp on about the fact that all the characters have extraordinarily strong bladders, and no need to defecate either.
As an adult, I did wonder what this video had in store. Turns out it was 'mostly' continuity or 'where did that come from?' and a little litterally-ism. There's nothing wrong with a bit of Fantasy to take you away from common old day life. And there's nothing worse than a kid asking you "Why?" "What?" "Where?" Adults accept this movie for what it is. A fantastical romp. Kids question. And in answer to the questions of Inigo and Fezzik's past and future/future and past.. you can all read about that in the sequel, "Buttercup's Baby".
One thing that never made sense is when Prince Humperdinck puts the machine up to 50 and Westley screams so loud that he can be heard for miles, Count Rugen and Albino don't cover their ears.
You will never know how much I've loved your performances.... Yentil, Criminal Minds, but the most of all.... my childhood had 3 copies (taped from cable and 2 because we lent one to a licensed copy to a family friend, which sent back over a year later). I fell in love with you in The Princess Bride and Indigo Montoya, I love your acting. Thank you. I've lost both parents and that movie..... you have no idea. I'm the "movie buff completely. I remember everything I watch. I'm approached by family to link acts. Its not the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon for me. I love you and you Sir are a class act.
Don't forget the recreation of Rob Reiner's navy cap on the shelf over the grandson's bed! Christopher Guest demanded that there was at least 1 nod to the fact that he and Rob Reiner had worked on Spinal Tap if he was to agree to do the movie as Count Rugen. The hat is visible briefly around timestamp 0:32-0:34 as his mother checks his temp and kisses his forehead.
Actually, he does say he doesn't want Wesley to be embarrassed but then he goes on to say he doesn't like for people to die underhand. It's all part of his feeling of fair play. Killing each other like civilised people 😅
I gave up watching after 5 minutes of trying to take the joy out of a great movie. Must be a lot of fun at a party, next you can explain all Penn and Teller tricks. Thank you.
Why would anyone want to ruin this story with ridiculous observations? It’s a fairy tale! The same people who ask these stupid questions are the same people who feel the need to give cartoons sexual identity. Just believe in magic you Muggle!!! 😳
Count Rugen's scar inflicted by Inigo was in the same spot in which is where the scar that Robin Loxley inflicted on the sheriff of Nottingham in "The Prince of Thieves".
@@susie9893; I have seen "Men In Tights", but what has that got to do with the cheek scar on the villains from either the Princess Bride or the unrelated "Prince of Thieves" aside from the fact that two of those movies happen to have Carry Ewes as the hero and that two out of the 3 happen to be retellings of Robinhood? Besides if I have not seen the movie I wouldn't have understood that it was more like a comedy pantomime than a movie movie and besides I haven't watched it in a long time and the last time I have seen it was my second time. I know very well that Robinhood was supposed to be either English or welsh anyway and that is the whole thing about Robinhood's heritage and Legacy, because he isn't just one guy, he is any outlaw that outshines other outlaws (Except maybe Zorro and Puss in Boots[Yes I am including Puss In Boots, yes I know you'd say "Puss In Boots is not Legendary" and that is true but he is a lot more dangerous and far more cute of an Outlaw from a fictional standpoint than Zorro and Robinhood combined, and that isn't just the Zorro stereotyped version from the Shrek universe, I am talking about Puss In Boots in the entire general history of every story he comes from]{yes; obviously because he is a talking magical cat and not a human}).
If you had read the book, you'd know a lot more. Fezzik, Ignigo and Buttercup. I'd recommend you start with the abridged version as the original by S. Morgenstern is almost unreably long winded. If you read the book you get it.
Dude, you are probably the guy that will go the theatre and complain that it's not believable because there is door thats obviously painted on. The points you are making are obvious. but part of the fun. You would ruin a wet dream kid. Blocking your content. You are no fun.
I’m confident that the folks that made this beautiful film were fully aware of the supposed “plot holes”. The primary motif of the film is of a story being read-moreover, passed down from grandfather to grandson. I wonder if y’all have ever read a story, read one to a child, or indeed, had a story read to you. I wonder if you ever operate within the realm of imagination instead of what must be a constantly frustrated, pedantic, nitpicky, arrogant, sad sort of gray, analytical “realism”. Jesus, maybe y’all need to give the vids a break and pick up a book.
5:17 Considering Humperdinck hired Vizzini to perform a kill on Buttercup, thr prince probably set all that stuff up for Vizzini. That was my assumption when I saw the movie for the first time at age 6. 😉
Wow, so many of these points are really wide of the mark, did the hack that wrote the script even bother to rewatch the film or just rely on their poorly remembered idea of what they think happened?
The post about buttercup making the right decision is very true. If your boo is declared dead for 5 YEARS and you’re forced into a loveless marriage, I don’t blame you for getting married.
Any discrepancy in this movie can be explained by the fact that we're not watching a portrayal of the story, but the grandson's imagination on what the grandfather is reading to him
What are you an aspiring CRITIC? Haven't you ever heard of movie logic! If movies were logical then the horror genre wouldn't be very popular. You want to nitpick then go to places that have hair lice infestations.

INIGO LIVED DAMNIT!! I’m not crying you’re crying!!
You do know this is the boy's imagination listening to his Grandpa reading the book right?
The author of this channel must be fun at parties. Also, what you call plot holes are actually Rob Reiner's brand of slapstick comedy blended with subtle humor.
💯
'You keep using this word...
... i do not think it means what you think it means"
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Explanation for the cliff scene - He's not stupid! He knows that as soon as they reach the top they're gonna cut the rope
If you didnt pick up on the fact that Fezziks backstory is a nod to Andre the Giants real career as a wrestler you shouldn't have made this video
Climbing the rope was done to set up tension for the sword fight. Also, presumably it could have served as a shortcut or a way to throw potential followers off their track by not taking the conventional route.
Depending on how deep the thrown knife wound was Inigo could have survived it. plus inigo skewered the count so it was hardly a superficial wound by comparison to his own.
nitpick all you want, this is still my all time favourite movie
In the first one that you said it was a Christmas Time movie you failed to reveal that in the end the grandfather told his grandson shalom. That would most likely make family Jewish. Though there are variants and the grandsons parent could be of a different faith but Grandpa gave him a book wrapped in Christmas paper. Odd
🤷♀️
But we can *say* it's a Christmas movie and add it to the list of movies we'd rather subject the family to than the majority of Christmas movies out there.
I could bear to make this movie an annual tradition (even though I know it by heart)
This is my childhood movie that I was raised on every since I was a few months old
As it should be!!
They went to Miracle Max after they left the castle
Umm, did you not notice the backpack/bag next to Vizzini during the "Battle of Wits"?!?
That was where he got the wine, cheese, giblets and tablecloth. 😉
Ummm.... goblets. Giblets come from chickens, not backpacks 😅
Isn't a huge message in this film about believing in the impossible?
Oh, for pity's sake. It's a Fairytale wrapped in a touching, and itself amusing, familial story. Mentioning "Christmas" and flogging that point to death, then just burbling. I'm surprised that you didn't harp on about the fact that all the characters have extraordinarily strong bladders, and no need to defecate either.
Your inconceivable narrating this movie 😂😂😂😂
3:22 'We may never know?' That's your problem not ours !!!
Probably used to ear-splitting screams of torture.
It was for science dear boy
It’s a fairy tale. The good guys never die
The 11 fingered man was apparently a nod to Reiner's earlier film, Spinal Tap, which had an amp that went to "11".
The line is “Embarrassed” but I always thought he was saying “on bare hands” when I was a kid. His emphasis on the syllables makes it sound like that.
Actually, he does say he doesn't want Wesley to be embarrassed but then he goes on to say he doesn't like for people to die underhand. It's all part of his feeling of fair play.
Killing each other like civilised people 😅
I definitely noticed the fact that she was too far away for Fezik to have grabbed from the boat when I was a kid 🤣
1:36 or it is a movie sin and they just forgot to move the boat
I gave up watching after 5 minutes of trying to take the joy out of a great movie. Must be a lot of fun at a party, next you can explain all Penn and Teller tricks. Thank you.
Inigo did not die! How dare you
Why would anyone want to ruin this story with ridiculous observations? It’s a fairy tale! The same people who ask these stupid questions are the same people who feel the need to give cartoons sexual identity. Just believe in magic you Muggle!!! 😳
The only mistake here is YOU trying to tenuously weave a faulty narrative from a very smart film.
So what? It’s the greatest movie ever. We can ignore any supposed errors for the fairy tale.
Count Rugen's scar inflicted by Inigo was in the same spot in which is where the scar that Robin Loxley inflicted on the sheriff of Nottingham in "The Prince of Thieves".
I have a mole??
@@susie9893; 😕your comment you sent to me does not make sense🤨; What does that have anything to do with either one of my own comments?
@@HeatherNickless-vt8zr never seen Men In Tights then? The other (better) Robin Hood: the one with the "English accent" you know 😅
@@susie9893; I have seen "Men In Tights", but what has that got to do with the cheek scar on the villains from either the Princess Bride or the unrelated "Prince of Thieves" aside from the fact that two of those movies happen to have Carry Ewes as the hero and that two out of the 3 happen to be retellings of Robinhood?
You forgot to mention there's no such thing as light sabers !
🤗
If you had read the book, you'd know a lot more. Fezzik, Ignigo and Buttercup. I'd recommend you start with the abridged version as the original by S. Morgenstern is almost unreably long winded. If you read the book you get it.
It's on my to do list
Actually vinncini tells fezek to turn left after the princess jumps
I think the point of Wesley clinging to the rock was that he’s just that inconceivable.
Inigo Montoya the best of the whole movie enough said he would be a great pirate.I wish they had shown Pirate Roberts in the movie.
He's too honorable to be a pirate.
They did. Wesley
It’s what’s called an movie mate, just enjoy it
I’m 13 and this guy thinks I’m an idiot. Of course I saw these
You missed the whole movie
Wait. You mean Die Hard is the *second* best Christmas movie?
😂 When he said this I thought: Yay, I get to add this to Die Hard for family Christmas movies!
Is it just me or do you think all the “errors” were in the movie to make it funnier?
Not just you
Has anyone ever told you that you think too much?
Wow, so many of these points are really wide of the mark, did the hack that wrote the script even bother to rewatch the film or just rely on their poorly remembered idea of what they think happened?
I always figured the boat kept drifting. Or the producer made a mistake.
Awesome movie. Perfect in all aspects
I absolutely adore this little movie gem! Terrific video 👍
Oh Looper you need to get a life instead of picking holes in this lovely film!
The post about buttercup making the right decision is very true. If your boo is declared dead for 5 YEARS and you’re forced into a loveless marriage, I don’t blame you for getting married.
Any discrepancy in this movie can be explained by the fact that we're not watching a portrayal of the story, but the grandson's imagination on what the grandfather is reading to him
Who gaf about any of this. The movie was great!!!
What are you an aspiring CRITIC?
Haven't you ever heard of movie logic!
If movies were logical then the horror genre wouldn't be very popular.
You want to nitpick then go to places that have hair lice infestations.
