  • Russia's FSB Gets Arrested Deputy Defence Minister's Custody Over Corruption Charges
Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov was arrested by the Federal Security Service (FSB) on April 23 over charges of corruption. He is accused of taking large bribes. A Russian court gave his custody to the FSB till June 23, stating that he “entered into a criminal conspiracy to commit organised crime” and that he was to receive property & services on a large scale in return for military contracts. The 47-year-old, ally of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu who has been tasked with handling the war in Ukraine, was in charge of the Russian military’s infrastructure projects. Ivanov has denied the corruption charge and claimed innocence. If convicted, he will get a 15-year jail term. The arrest has triggered speculations of a rift within the top brass. His arrest also follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s orders to the FSB to root out corruption.

It is admirable that someone so high ranked is held accountable. He likely is not the only one skimming Rubles.

Guilty or not, it's good to see when Russia (or any government) seeks to call out and hold those accountable, for corruption. It shows the government seeks to uphold honor and be a true government.

Not bad Russia. Unlike the US where one can buy the whole US Congress to vote the financial aids for Israel and Ukraine.
