So funny......Steven's story about having a passion for Porsche from early childhood years....later making the switch from 911 to 981....and having trouble to get one....mirrors exactly my experience. The world is either a small place - or there is unknown brotherhood in life. I absolutely agree that the base is all you need for getting the feeling that you seek, when you are passionate about sport cars. One other good thing about the Cayman, it is indeed an "inner event" every single time you drive one.....I can care less about 0-60 mph or top speed.
I deliberated endlessly and bought a well spec'd 981 base in racing yellow from RSJ arrived to view it with a 1 way train ticket! No regrets at all, 3 years on still love it.
My 981 base is awesome , I had a 911 but by far I like my 981 more. . The ride is everything you want , amazing control on the road. God willing this car will stay in family.
A superb video! I'm at the watching Autotrader and specialist Porsche sales websites every 5 minutes stage myself! That Mexico Blue is soooooo gorgeous. I'd love one in that colour. Thanks for making this video.
This isn't far off, not PTS, but similar www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105253074660? and I don't recall seeing many if any other than this Miami Blue 981
@@MAXREVS yep it is odd from that perspective, even the side sticker says GT4. But I guess the decal could be removed fine and too the wing, it’s a lovely colour though
Absolutely fantastic review of a truly beautiful car. I10% agree Max… any Cayman is a great Cayman. I love every second spent in mine. Enjoy!!! Your pride of ownership made me smile :)
Obviously someone lost their mind momentarily.... you get the most car you can for your money. So if you have 20K extra to spend and then get a base and put the rest in options, that is just dumb. You could have gotten an S and still put 10K in options... very painful :)
Nice one Max, love the content you put out out, and the cayman passion, Steven’s wife comments is hilarious, think we all go through the needs and wants discussions with the wife and the voices in our head😂.
I have to believe that once the Cayman has gone EV, all previous Caymans that are ICE cars are going to go up in value. I’m sure a Cayman EV will be fun, but it won’t be the same. Great video!
I read recently that someone discovered a new blue dye. It sounds odd but when you think of it...it is not easy..it has to be safe and stable. I have noticed so many new cars with bright blue paint shades. I love that car..white dials....someone spent some bucks on that car.
Loved this Max. Similar story for me also. Started looking at 987.1S and ended up with a base 987.2 with lots of history. Love the way you matched the trainers and Tie eith the car colour Pal .😂
I just got a 2012 Base and had a simlar story. Originally looking for an S but saw this base opportunity. I didn't even wait for pictures because I knew it would be gone. Low miles, 1 owner, no accidents, and a very well-respected dealer. One way flight about 350 miles, picked up the car and drove it home.
Great story, he had the patience to wait for the exact one...He's a very lucky guy, to be honest, I have hardly seen any specced that well. I do love the extended leather to Max. Unfortunately on the 987s that was only available on S. To my eye makes the car look proper posh:)
Great to see the joint enthusiasm. I drive a Racing a yellow 981 GTS here in New Zealand. The bold colours work far better in my opinion. I say that if you are driving a Porsche you should make a statement, so embrace those brighter colours and stand out from the boring greys, silvers and blacks that are far too common.
I have to agree on the 981/718 which look more aggressive and edgy, the brighter colours green, orange, yellow, red go well. On the 987 has to be Basalt Black. 987 is more of a classic elegant design that needs the edginess of Basalt Black with the 19 inch Satin Platinum Sport Design or diamond-turned Turbo wheels.
I cannot wait to watch this. No doubt be comparing it to my base 981. It will excite me and prob depress me at the same time when i realise how many of the options are not optioned on my cayman :(
Same for me too Uwe! Stephen's story sounds like mine. I just ordered a heavily optioned Cayman S. Always wanted a 911, but the 992 has just gotten too big for me. Wanting a color different from white, black, silver, and grey meant ordering a new car. After going back and forth between Shark Blue and Python Green, I went crazy and picked Python Green.
Precisely. I wanted an S to begin with...but I couldn't find one at a nice price point/color. I paid for mine from Texas during c19 without seeing it. The car I got is just beautiful!!! Shipped to Hawaii. Bra I love it!!!🤙
Great colour, sometimes I think of wrapping my base cayman in that colour but the black looks so cool when it’s clean. Great vid, but personally I would of gone the 987 cayman R as they would of been in the same price bracket and then wrapped it in Miami blue. That’s looking it at it from a financial point as the cayman R is going up in value year on year and the 981 cayman is so new it is still on the depreciation slope.
Might have been the video I needed to see. Wanting a Cayman or Boxer lately, and I'm really struggling to consider the base models instead of only the S versions. I'm leaning toward a manual, and all the S ones around here seem to be PDK. Thanks. Music intro and outro is really loud though. lol. Just an fyi
😂😂😂 Hi Uwe, I think Cayman owners are made to feel inferior by 911 owners - they are a strange breed though (I own both so I feel I can comment). Everytime I’m told my “Cayman isn’t a 911” I just reply “you are correct, it’s not a Cayenne, Macan or Taycan either, so what’s your point”?
@@noshism very well said....I think every Cayman owner, as an individual person may feel or react differently when presented with the 911 situation. I love the 911 and I love the Cayman. I think owning both cars is a privilege. Personally, I think the Cayman has its unique value proposition, which is different then the one of the 911. Its like, do you like bananas or apples. One thing that appears to unite the Cayman owners is the passion for having a high quality, mid-engine, traditional sport car that is not as expensive as the exotic car brands and the joy of driving that this car gives you even for a small budget....
Actually Tom, this car did come at a premium even as a used car. For the budget I could have still purchased an “S’ or an older 911. But well worth it and not at the level of extra cost the original owner paid.
@@sundershanmugam4269 True a manual is engaging for the driver and especially on track, but have you driven the PDK? I have and I can say that you will not find a better gearbox, changes are lightening fast and totally seamless and you can still utilise the paddles on the steering wheel to give you more engagement and connection with what the car is doing. You also have convenience when driving in the city.
Nice Suit MAX 👍 Like the Cinematic intro. Good Video Max & Steven 😃 Hope we can get together again soon. Pity we're miles apart. I also grew up loving the 911. But fell in love with the Cayman when I sat in one at Goodwood (FOS) in 2011. I have never liked sports cars with rear seats that cannot be used, so the Cayman interested me. Years ago you had to buy top model to get high specs/trim level. But now ( as shown on Steven's high spec base ) & my base 718 you can have Bells 🔔 & whistles 😙

Have to say one thing the (987) S does give is the bigger brake discs and red callipers; they are right-sized for the Sport Design or Turbo alloys.

Lovely colour... Possibly my favourite! But it would need a manual box. 🤭
Great video! Max, please make a video with this car next to Shark Blue or Voodoo Blue. I’d love to see the difference.
Yeah me too. Shark Blue deliveries just started to land in the UK… need to find an owner of one.

Man I didn’t know that did this color for the cayman
Buy a base vs S and you can get a special color, painted wheels, sports exhaust and have $ left over.
I was surprised how much the right colour makes a car. Obviously this is all subjective.
