    That 981 Cayman is much more modern and better looking too than the old 911's. Also, a base Cayman is less than 3/4 of a second slower than the Cayman S at 0-60mph. Unless that's worth the extra $10k (US) to you, no need to get the S.

      Purchased my Cayman Base two years ago, I will say it’s the best sports car in the world that sensible money can buy. Sonny is right, unless you are going to track it, or in my opinion, going to drive it on the Autobahn, the extra horses are really useless.

    I have to agree with Robert Hidalgo, this has to be up there as one of your best videos. Unlike Sunny my car ownership over many years has been V8’s shoehorned into small bodied cars, then onto JCW & GP MINIS. I bought my first Porsche this year, a 2015 Cayman 981 base model, spec’d by the dealership from new with just shy of 7,000 miles. Finished in Carrera White, Luxor beige full leather, PDK, 20” Carrera wheels in black gloss and some other options. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned ( there’s a saying that the best Porsche is the one you own), & I can’t imagine ever parting with it. Thanks for introducing Sunny to the channel, great guy, understands that big HP is not the be all/end all of having fun. I’m definitely going to be checking out the sports exhaust. The sound is right up my street.
    Enjoy your new car Sunny & thanks again Max 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

      Hi, I'm really happy for you that your Cayman brings you so much joy! Dealership spec cars tend to be rather nice. We suspect Sunny's car was also a dealership spec. Not that many people would opt for £15k options on a base Cayman as it clearly overlaps with the Sport model pricing. Credit to Sunny, he found me, I didn't find him. He just reached out to me at maxrevscars@gmail.com. Maybe it's just me, but I think he's got a bit of Chris Harris in his presentation style. Anyone else here think that?!

    OK OK OK I have watched many Cayman videos in my search for a new vintage sports car. What continues to impress is the smiles I see! The Cayman seems to have what it takes for putting some joy into life. In particular, this video supports the choice I made...since all the economic and power differences between the base and the S models dissolved for me when I found a 2012 base with the options I wanted. Driving it makes me put aside the daily disturbances in life and focus on the fun. Pay attention to the road my friends!

      Hehehe, getting to drive Sunny's Cayman was a bonus. The main thing is reaching out to like minded people and having a laugh talking about cars. To be honest there isn't a specific "business plan" behind this channel. Sunny reached out to me, and asked if I wanted to join him collecting his new car. How could I say no!! I wish you well on your car acquisition journey.

  • @simonbussey7530
    @simonbussey7530 4 года назад +3

    The 981 is the best sounding Cayman. Went downhill from then onwards, the latest 2019 cars with the PPF have really been muted. Sport sounds better than Sport+ on a 718 (counter intuitively).
    The tail tips are getting complicated now. I have a 718 base with twin tail pipes without PSE. However since 2019 you now have PSE with the base oval sports exhaust, so all combinations are possible.
    Another great video Max.

    Great drive Sunny, you are talking the truth as I have a 2015 Cayman base and the engine shrieks like a race car when pushed, also the 2.7 engines have a torque plateau : 4500 rpm to 6500 and hp. peaks at 7500 rpm which is a much higher range than the 3.4 engine , very few engines have max torque plateaus
    They normal just peak and then fall off.

    I must be different from the generic prospective Cayman owners, on my hunt I didn’t want PASM, didn’t want chrono or PDK or sports exhaust. I wanted stock with less options as possible that could go wrong, colour and manual only was my spec, it took 18 months to find the right one.

  • @nigel.w
    @nigel.w 10 месяцев назад +1

    I loved watching this vid and seeing the smiles on your faces. But, I'm just gonna come out and say, while I get PSE, it's not a must have for me. I wouldn't search out a car with it, and I wouldn't pay extra for it, because I'm just not a pops and bangs kinda person. Maybe it's because I'm 60 next birthday. I agree that the majority of buyers want it, along with Sport Chrono, so its absence may make a car harder to sell, but at the end of the day, you're almost certainly going to pay a premium for PSE and/or Sport Chrono. Personally, I'd rather have Sport Chrono than PSE, but that's maybe just me.
    I'm also going to disagree that you should avoid all those cars on the market with just the standard four buttons. Again, as long as the price is right, I really don't think it makes a significant difference. I wouldn't track my own car, but if you do then Sport Chrono gives you more aggressive shifting with PDK. And, IIRC, from MY2014 the manual cars with Sport Chrono get auto rev matching, which I'd personally rather have than PSE.
    As for base versus S, again it obviously mainly comes down to your budget. IMO, the base is the one to get if you want a manual. As Porsche gearing is so long, you can rev out the base car without risking your licence too much. That's not to say that the PDK isn't also a great option for the base car, not least because it maximizes its performance. However, there's one good reason to get the S, even if you predominantly drive in London, and that's torque. The S delivers significantly more torque, so you don't have to rev the car hard all the time to make power, as you do in the base car, which makes for more relaxing everyday driving.
    I'm also going to confess that as a convertible person, I prefer the Boxster, just as my favourite 911s are Cabriolets. As always, YMMV. Anyway, the best advice I can give is get whatever car makes YOU feel good, and ignore what your neighbour thinks or what you think s/he thinks.The only person you need to impress is yourself.

  • @MsCliveharper

    Max, you NEED a sports exhaust!
    But you don’t need to spend that sort of money. Look at the Carnewal GT exhaust which is offered on an exchange basis for a few hundred pounds. It uses the stock exhaust, so no change in looks, there’s no drone, and you don’t sound like a boy racer coming down the high street.

      I was sold on your car the moment I read "sports exhaust". My Cayman is a 2009 car, and these are generally classified as "recession cars".
