      @Hasan M Thanks for the feedback. Did you get a chance to watch last week’s acceleration video of the Porsche Cayman S? That’s more the original style. With this system, we wanted to delve deeper into reviews and be more concise. That said, I think a combination of multiple formats will keep things fresh (hopefully).

    I think you undersell the Porsche Aftermarket -- especially if all that you consider is exhaust and intake tuming. Many 911 or later model Cayman parts will bolt right on to this car. If you want to swap a GT3 front suspension and a GT4 rear suspension on to the car -- you can buy the parts from countless suppliers, or even Porsche itself. The same for even Ti-connecting rods, and everything in between. You can get decades of race prep and hot-rodding guidance at a number of excellent forums - with very little attitude (not to mention -once again - support from Porsche itself). The aftermarket (and Porsche itself through the Heritage Product line) also supports all Porsches going back 70 years. The Porsche Club in the US and other countries is second to none compared to other car clubs for activities and support. From autocrosses to Carrera Cup you'll have a place to race. You should also check out the fan support and corral at sports car races! Have you been to a Rennsport Reunion?!

      Hey Bro, nice car, I'm in Perth, currently have a tuned Audi A7 but considering getting the Cayman 981, considering getting the "S" or do you recommend get the standard and put and get the S exhaust system on it like you, which may work out cheaper? I actually wanted a 2015 RS7 because i wanted a v8 roar but it seems like these Caymans sound good? Hard to tell on just hearing from the vids, haven't driven one yet only just decided today that this might be my next car

    • @RuTube981

      @@bsb6350 Yeah I'd definitely go with an S. The standard car only has 275hp. Sounds great but I just feel like it's super under-powered. The S has just the right amount at 325, and it's super light, at 2900lbs so it still corners in its sleep. I haven't found a base cayman with the sports exhaust but here's a vid from my channel where you can hear mine.

      @@RuTube981 @RuTube981 thanks for your response , exhaust sounds great, sounds like you get some nice crackles and burps and well which i know some people don't like but i love. I wil see if i can find one to test drive in the near future as a starting point. Looking for something around 2014 /2015 with about 60,000 km as it then becomes a little more affordable and less guilt on a big spend. Other sports cars that i feel are in the similar price range with great power is the Jaguar F Type R (V8) and the Lexus LC 500 also a V8 , both have nice designs and lots of luxury inside BUT something about that timeless look of a Porsche just makes me feel this is something i need to buy and hopefully just keep forever, also feel this car might even go up in value in the future and also become a "cult" classic. The Lexus has a vibe of a "retired Dentists car" and im just not sure the Jag is a wise choice. Ive recently turned 40 and still young at heart and before everything turns electrical, i really want to enjoy some sporty engineering but want to enjoy decent sound , hence my question on the exhaust. Appreciate your time.

      @RuTube981 6 месяцев назад +2

      @bsb6350 I'll tell you I can sell my car for more than I bought it and I bought it certified pre-owned 6 years ago. Their value will only go up as the cayman after mine got a disgusting 4 cylinders and the new cayman after that will be all electric. The 981 s flat 6 is the best sounding flat 6 porsche ever made, as even the new 911s don't sound as good what with all the emissions and stuff.

    It was nice to turn on the computer today and see a new 981 review. I have a 2015 981 Cayman S with a lot of options. I love it but I still think it was overpriced at $87k. I added Soul Performance headers with 200 cell cats paired with the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) and it makes one helluva difference in the exhaust note. It also adds a bit more power. In Sport +, it literally screams. But, I think the new C8 is going to wind up being a much better value. I also think that is why Porsche did an about-face and will now have the 4.0 in the GTS and not just the GT4.

    Hello! Just watched and enjoyed the review, great job! I too owned a 2014 Cayman S which was my first Porsche. I purchased mine used with only 3500 miles and aftermarket exhaust. Prior to this car I also have been a fan of V8 powered beast but I always found myself wanting more than straight line performance. Due to an unfortunate collision with a full grown buck at 65 mph, the Cayman S was totaled. Now I have a 2016 GTS and in my opinion is the most amazing car I’ve ever driven! The sport exhaust is awesome and when the PVT is active with PASAM I find it awe inspiring to think, “They make cars that handle better than this?” I’d love to see your review of the GTS and see if you come to the same conclusions as I have!

The 14-way seats (or were they 18-way?) made for so much comfort, I felt refreshed getting out of the car after a 5-hour drive! I wish I had one with its adjustability in my living room. I was confused by your statement that it's difficult to do after market upgrades. Mine has wider wheels, under drive pulleys, a bigger oil cooler, factory short shift, a turbo charger with intercooler and performance brakes. So unless you're referring to fuzzy dice, your just plain wrong on that score. Mine is a 460 hp track machine that eats GT3s for breakfast.

    • @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy
      @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy  4 года назад +1

      I guess I should’ve been more clear. Wheels/Brakes are pretty standard things so don’t really count. You can get custom wheels for pretty much anything. What I’m referring to is OEM+ or FBO. I think 7 is a fair score considering the mod price to performance ratio isn’t exactly stellar. I’m sure your car is a beast, but how much did you spend to get there? For reference, the BMW’s B58/S55/N55/N54 platforms would get a 10 in this category because of how easy it is to gain performance with practically one or two mods.

    • @superdave2316
      @superdave2316 4 года назад

      Maybe I misunderstood the category. You were referring to how simple and inexpensive mods are not necessarily their availability. Got it. Good job on the revue though.

    It is high reving compared to normal cars that usually top up at 5000rpm even if they can rev up to 6000 or 6500 there is no more power to be gained up there because of the lack of torque. The Cayman engine wakes just up where most cars start to loose power at the top and rev up to 7500rpm with just slightly more and more power right up to the rpm limiter.

    Maybe I missed it but did you talk about current value? Talking about the price when it came out I don't think is relevant to current value as nobody is buying this model new.

    • @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy
      @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy  4 года назад

      So as far as my knowledge goes, at the time of this review, current used value is around 45-55K depending on variables. But I tried to keep it relative to its segment for its time period when it came out new. If I factored in used prices, I could say it cost almost as much as an early year used C7 Z06 and I think that would put it at an unfair disadvantage. Therefore, my thought process is that original MSRP compared against the offerings at the time is the most impartial method. It’s hard doing older models, I try to stick to newer cars for this reason, but I’m still a small channel, so I won’t say no when a car is offered to me for review.

    • @happyfundave
      @happyfundave 4 года назад

      @@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy I agree that I would talk about a new car to what's available used, it's a bit apples to oranges for a review. However when talking about an older used car the MSRP/new sale price doesn't relate to a lot. Knowing it's price competitors back then isn't something that comes up when looking at this car unless it's similarly competitive now on the used scene. I think it's fair to compare it to a C7 Z06 because someone with about $50K would definitely cross shop these two cars.

    Fair grade. It is an average sports car that has a few shining points. Like the Flat-6 when you cold start it - then it disappoints with its low power and doesn't like to rev as much as you think past 6.7k rpm. And to think Porsche deliberately de-tuned it is unforgivable.

    Storage is 7/10? Name one other car in this segment has better storage than the Cayman please

    • @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy
      @SpeedLabsMotorEnvy  4 года назад

      The 7/10 score encompasses the interior, cabin design and storage. The interior, though beautiful, is lacking in tech for its segment. If I were to grade it solely on storage space, it would be a 9/10. The only car that has better storage capability in its class is the C7 Corvette. Though it doesn’t have a frunk, there’s a cool hidden compartment behind the navigation screen and the volume in the hatch is just unparalleled if you need to be utilitarian with it.

    The problem that I have is that you didn’t push it hard how it is meant to be. So your comment towards the end about it being disconnected from the driver as a cayman GTS owner is absolutely wrong. Push it hard and track it and you will see a COMPLETELY different car. I’m the normal everyday drive it’s dossal and it feels a bit blah....but start driving it like you stole it and you will see the true cayman personality and performance. Just my opinion of course. Other than that, great video and review! 👍🏻

    Correction, the Porsche model number for the latest gen is 718, not 982. Also, I would encourage you to drive the latest 718. I have owned all 3 latest generations & the latest gen it is better in every way. With the optional sports exhaust, the new model sounds almost as good as the previous gen, but the improvements in torque & power are worth it. Also, the latest base model is faster than the previous S model. In addition, value is excellent, especially if you pick up a Cayman that is 1-2yrs old. As a example, I found the same model in your video with all the same options, including Ceramic brakes (PCCB) for $59K (originally $92k MSRP). Excellent review, your presentation & demeanor is spot on.
