Had my 981 Cayman S ecu remapped to 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km/h 3.89sec. Hair-trigger throttle response. Pulls like crazy from 3500rpm to redline. I laugh during and after every drive, such is the experience!
Nice car, guard red? Just picked up a 2015 Dark Blue Metallic base Cayman with a PDK. REALLY wanted the 6 speed, but I’m getting over it, lol! A very fun car to drive, keep up the good vids!
Yep, Guards Red! Man congrats on the purchase, the PDK is honestly amazing! And Dark Blue Mettalic? You might like our GT4 video hahaha. These cars are such a hoot and wish you nothing but the best in enjoying it! Thank you for the kind words and THANK YOU for watching! Happy New Year!
Thanks for the kind words! And congratulations on the new car haha, we didn’t review the 981 boxster but the owner of the cayman has one too and man what a blast! Thanks for watching!
Old video but great review. I just bought this car last night however I went for the 6 speed manual. I live in Scotland so plenty of long roads with no traffic.
Thank you for the kind words! You made a great choice. I can only tell you what I’ve experienced from the 981 GT4’s manual but I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say even the standard 6 speed is amazing as well. Great buy and with those Scottish highland roads, we can only dream of that with our flat straight highways of Florida
Shane Dykes Hey Shane thanks for the kind words! I’m gonna be honest with you , I’d say both will be great but that extra power would be so nice. I didn’t really try to hoon it as it wasn’t mine but let’s just say the tires were too good for the power levels, lots of grip. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Really up to your preference, after all both the 14 and 16 are pre facelift 981’s so essentially would be the same thing aside from power levels.
@@glenncole6144 I believe COBB and other tuners provide an ecu remap for the base 981. A pro tuner may be able to finesse the software to get some extra horses, but remember, engine safety/reliability must be considered. I guess if you wanted more, then look at headers, hi flow cats, air filters....more $$$.
Nice review. if you want more tail action out of 981 and make it quicker and better balanced (fantastic under brakes from high speed no swirm). Fit X73 rear suspension bar from Porsche to base 981 suspension. It's cheap and elevates car to another level and you still have good ground clearance. I am posting times close to 718. the only other thing is have Porsche alter the camber settings to about -1.2 front and rear. here is a lap I recently did in my 981. It can generate more than 1.3 g's in some corners. ruclips.net/video/0lVdWMGYVRM/видео.html
Good call on the suspension. I am looking to change out the x73 suspension back to a base set up but I'll keep the front and rear x73 sway bars. Unless you're dedicating the car solely to the track where it's nice to be lower to the ground, it just too much hastle to slow down for every odd driveway or payment imperfection. The x73 while compliant, and race car fun, is not as good for long touring journeys and crappy CA. highways and just not much clearance, and that's where the base set up with some help of beffier sways might be the perfect combination. I have to say, the Red color combination with the 20" wheels looks really great on this video. I almost thought it looked lowered over the base suspension. Anthony, glad I found your comments as I was wondering how the base with x73 bars might perform...
The main selling point of the 981 vs the 718 is the sound. Love that flat-six.
Most definitely dude. There's nothing like that flat 6 sound barking once the power band comes on. Thanks for watching!
Cx
i dont care the way it sounds. its a flat-6. period. 6 is better than 4.

*982, the 718 is just a moniker not the actual generational code
Man i keep saying this is the best Cayman review! It proves you dont need a ton of power to have fun!!
THANK YOU for those kind words!! You are absolutely right, no need for such big power to have a blast! Thanks for watching!

Good stuff, just picked up a 981 Boxster base
Really great deals to be had in the used Market

@@theshiftchanneltv Thanks dude! Looking forward to picking it up!
@@Jasonrm92 Enjoy man you’re gonna love it!
What kinda red is your 981 , love this red , did you mod the taillights
Yea the color is definitely amazing! If I'm not mistaken the color is Guards Red. The tail lights are original btw. Thank you for watching!
@@theshiftchanneltv deff looks like it has the darker gts tail lights without the chrome trim
@@stuartross8284 Crazy how little details can make such a difference. Thank you for watching!!
Great car, great review - keep up the good work. Porsche made a mistake in moving to turbo 4 imho.
B H Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed!! But yea definitely nothing beats the flat 6
Good review! Gonna do something like this with my 2006 Boxster S
Thanks for the kind words man, glad you enjoyed! Drop the link here when you get that done with your Boxster!
Man should I get s 2014 Cayman s or a 2016 Cayman? Is the older car with more power better buy or the base new car?

Thx! I will probably get the 2014 Cayman s. I am test driving a 2017 gt350! So I may change my mind!
Get the S, remap the ecu COBB to 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km/h 3.89sec. You are then driving a beast of a sports car my friend.
Ross Yannis hi quick question can you remap the cry on a 2016 base cayman?

Car was 981 base without PSE, right?
Correct! Thanks for watching!!
Real and real good review! Thx
