This is an all-around banger IMO. Its a great summer Rye.
Absolutely agree. Wish they would proof it up would be even better
Though I would have liked to have seen this at 100 proof, for $52 (San Antonio, TX at SPEC'S), I can't complain. If you like the regular Bulleit 95 Rye, this 12-Year is just a smoother, more refined version. I never would have realized the 10-year Old Overholt is in an Old Grand Dad bottle! I agree it is worth the $98. But the flavor profile is very different from the Bulleit 12-year. Thanks for the education! I had no idea O.O. and O.G.D were owned by Jim Beam!
Glad you enjoyed the video and yeah if they had upped that proof to 100 or even better barrel proof would have made an even better experience.
I knew you would love this. I heard another channel describe nose as Green Apple Blow Pop. I screamed at my phone “Yes!!” A veaaaaarrrry good review.
Haha yeah it’s delicious
I have two and will enjoy them both. Great review. Thanks!!
Thanks for watching and yeah I need to get a backup
This stuff blew my socks off. I'm hoping the last bottle at my FWGS is still there when I go tomorrow, I need a backup!
Haha yeah it’s a backup bottle when it’s not too expensive for how good it is
In a world of ever increasing prices and dwindling age statements.... what a value! I love mine, its such an enjoyable dram.
Absolutely it’s a welcome change of pace
Got a bottle of Bulleit 12 Rye from Fine Wine and Good Spirits...its worth the price tax, $55 + tax...I would say it is a little sweet but great value for a 12 year old rye.
Absolutely it’s a fantastic value
Still say A. Overhold Monongahela Rye is the best bang for your buck at $40. I have Bulleit 12 year and YES I agree it's the be best high aged deal pho sho.
I haven't tried the A. Overholt Monghalea rye yet maybe I need to
The only rye that I had in my collection was Sazerac and JD Single Barrel. I LOVE the Bulleit 10 year bourbon so after watching your enthusiastic review I went out to my local liquor store. He literally just got delivery on a case earlier this morning so I picked up a bottle for $55 + tax. Apparently this is a bit hard to find due to distribution gaps but I got lucky! Hopefully I enjoy it as much as you did Bill! Cheers to all!
Wow what luck hopefully you love it
Great review as usual. Looking forward to getting a bottle.
Hopefully you can snag one it’s seemingly available enough in most places
Someone get Bill a sample of the Templeton 10yr single barrel rye that’s sitting everywhere on the shelf! Seems like it would be a good comparison.
Haha it does sound like a good comparison
Just picked up the Bulleit 12
Let me know how you like it
I wonder if you take bulleit 12 and add a toasted oak stave for a bit and see if it will beat the Michters 10. I bet it might beat it.
Yeah I could see that for sure. The real issue is this is $55 and michters 10 is nearly $200 and it’s not far off
I am going to do a taste test this weekend, Bulleit 12, Sazerac Rye, Knob Creek Rye and Sagamore 8 Year. I'm so excited
Vs the sagamore 8 I think the 8 would edge it out vs Knob Creek I’m taking the bulleit unless your talking about the new Knob Creek 10yr rye haven’t tried that yet
@bourbonbill haven't tried the Knob Creek 10 year yet, might have to look for it before this weekend
@@tylerswartyeah I’m hoping it comes to Pa soon I’m dying to review jt
I just picked up a Bulleit single barrel and its really good.
If you like ryes find a bottle of this 12yr
In my experience, I have not had any $100+ bottles that warranted the price tag based on what's in the bottle. I still have some Sagamore store picks that I picked up for $50/each, and need to get through them before picking up another rye. Bulleit 12 will be on my list though.
Slightly different profile than the sagamore picks which are excellent but you should enjoy this one as well
Great review, Bill. I am likely going to skip this bottle for a very practical reason: I already have too many ryes and I don't reach for them as often as I do bourbon. I have several bottles of Sagamore and a Rossville. When I am in the mood for a 95/5 (or close with Sagamore), I know I am going to reach for those. I also have a bunch of Kentucky ryes.
Now, if I had a small collection and needed a good value rye...this would fit the bill (pun intended?). Cheers.
Haha yeah I mean I got a ton of sagamore and reach for them a lot this is a nice older change of pace but I get it
What a great video this sounds like the value I've been looking for
Thanks glad you enjoyed it and yes it’s a refreshingly great value whiskey in a sea of poor values recently
Have you tried Stoll & Wolfe rye distilled in PA? Supposed to be very good.
Well about a year ago I did and it was nearly undrinkable horrible grassy hay craft youth notes. Now they do source some MGP for special releases which I hear is good and they have a new mashbill release that I’m hearing is okay but their normal distilled stuff was pretty awful at least a year ago
Got it. Thanks for the perspective.
How about the 2023 Thomas H Handy?
I’ve actually never tasted it so no idea but it’s like a 6yr old rye so I bet a lot beats it
Dude I love your channel but I still haven't figured out why your intro music is We Wish You A Merry Christmas lmao 😅
Haha just love the Christmas music
@@bourbonbill 🤶 🎄
It's free to use too
@@DBTdadthat’s true too but there is a ton of free options
So it's a Veeeerrrrrrryyyyy special 12yr Rye! This is on the shelf all day everyday at $41.99, should I buy one...??? 😂
Dang absolutely what a steal of a price. It’s limited so once they sell out could be another 4 or 5 years if we see it again
Dang, it's 60 bucks where I am at! I'd get a few of them. It's pretty flavorful for a 92 proofer.
There is some 17 year rye in the new bulliet 12
I had heard that rumor it does have a good older profile so it could be true
@@bourbonbill its not a rumor, info was released to the press
@@YoJimBo851610it didn’t say how much 17yr though was in the blend did it? Percentage wise
@@bourbonbill unfortunately no
That thumbnail 😂😂😂😂 either that rye is really good or 😂😂😂
Haha you’ll have to watch to find out
@@bourbonbill I did watch ,great video as usual . Something about the citrus note on bulleit that don’t like . Some bottles a little heavier than others for me but I’ll give it a try .
Bulleit 12 Rye or Chattanooga White Port? 🤔
Both the answer is both lol. Totally different but if you only have the funds for one ask yourself if you enjoy aged rye or finished bourbon more and go with that choice
16:39 I like thick ryes and I cannot lie 🍑
Absolutely the thicker the better lol
Look for Silver Springs Sweet Rye by Keeper's Quest out of Chattanooga TN. Cask strength single barrel rye, 65% rye 15% corn and 20% malted barley. Thick apricot/fruit base. My favorite. Should be around $40, a total steal.
That *thumbnail* for this! 😅
Haha it’s getting used for Thursdays video too it’s a double header of shock
