I really liked it. The only other Shenks I have is a bottle of 2019 that I have not opened.
If you enjoyed it try Chattanooga much cheaper and same flavor profile as the 2024. The 2019 bottle would be different as the finishing and mash bills are not the same as the 2024
Nice review BB. I have the Shenk’s and Bomberger’s from 2022, 2023 and 2024. Some are better than others. I only buy them if I can find at MSRP. 🥃

I bought the 2022 Shenks. I don’t like it. I will never buy another one. Great review today.
Haha yeah it’s been at least 4 years of bombergers is better for me I don’t see myself buying a shenks

Heard some "meh" chatter about this years' Shenk's release. But was offered a 2024 and it's is my first ever bottle and let's ask ourselves DOES THIS BOTTLE SUCK as people have been grumbling on about???
Nose: There is a twang to this. Youth? The partial French oak influence? Im not sure. Slightly sour with an oaky undertone which is aromatic and pleasant.
Taste: Creamy and rye forward at first. Which falls off quickly while leaving a gentle rye spice and slightly drying wood laced finish that manages to hang on for a decent amount of time. (Going back to it a couple weeks later and it was.much more rye forward in all respects.)
So...does this suck?
It's fine. Price, even at srp, leaves me feeling a little short changed. The Shenk's has a nice body and an herbal/oak combination that is interesting but not worth the $115. So yeah, the srp definitely SUCKS but the whiskey is more than okay for the right audience. Which really doesn't seem to be us. Lol
Haha the doesn’t seem to be us had me dying yeah it’s fine the price sucks and I can go drink Chattanooga for the same experience for $50
My palate differs from yours at least on this whiskey. I don’t get the heavy malt taste that you get. I rather liked it maybe not as much as I liked the Bombergers.
I didn’t hate it but to me no where near worth the price of admission I’ll have to revisit and see if it’s evolved any for me

2023 was a good year for Shenk's and just a meh year for Bomberger's. I am hearing this year's Bomberger's is just as meh. Bomberger's has had some blockbuster years. I may not buy either this year.
If you were meh on the 23 bombergers this 24 ain’t going to change your mind I quite enjoyed both but they are similar

I admit, I''ve always been a Shenks fan, but I do have a problem with the lack of transparency, so this is the first year I won't be buying a bottle. I no longer have any interest in buying a bottle of whisky without knowing exactly what's in the bottle.
Yeah I agree 2024 consumers don’t want to pay more and if they do they want transparency in what they are buying and frankly michters is one of the least transparent distilleries period
