      On the Jack Daniel's "Around the Barrel" podcast (can't remember if it was the interview with Chris Fletcher and Lexie Phillips or the "Old Traditions, New Year" episode), it was mentioned that technically, everything Jack releases could qualify as bottled in bond if they proofed it to 100 so it's at least 4 years.

    Fred Minnich showed this trick that helps with smelling aspect of tasting. Sniffing coffee beans before you drink or if you think your nose is off resets your sense of smell. It has helped me in the past and hope it can help yall.
    Totally agree with Trenton on the Rye rankings Sagamore is killing it with ryes.

    I was fortunate to get a Limited Release and it is in my tops for not only ryes, but whiskey in general. Been waiting, probably like everyone else, to see if this line was going to happen and if they could create that same magic again in this line. Very much appreciate the side by side on this. I think the most promising take away I got from this was Trenton saying, "If you were to tell me this was just a different single barrel (of the 2020 release), I would believe you." That is music to my ears. Can't wait to try one. Well done...Cheers!

    Hey, I just came across your channel today, and i love the videos! I've watched about 12 of them in a row. I just watched your Bourbon Beginners Guide, but was still left with questions. I was wondering, if you can you do a beginners guide for Whiskey in general? (Differences between the types such as scotch, bourbon, Tennessee, irish, etc..) Maybe go more in-depth on the manufacturing process steps, and then give some recommendations for each category of whiskey at 2-3 different price points (Cheap, intermediate, enthusiast). I would REALLY love if you could do something like this, as I have been a Whiskey lover/drinker for about 6 years now, but know little to nothing about it! 😅

Now we have been flooded w/a lot of MGP rye products, & I'm not saying they aren't good, but they aren't typically unique in any way either. The regular JD SBBP is one of my favorite bottles, mine is pure banana cream pie. This new SBBP Rye is my most anticipated bottle. My fear is that as more people get turned on to the SBBP, they'll become another allocated release. In a relative short time, the regular SBBP has become harder to find. Same with Rare Breed, though that's showed up recently. I was lucky to get a bottle of the JD 12 year, i don't want to see these SBBP's become hard to get, atleast in my area of Arizona.

    I’ve never been much of a fan of Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey, even the single barrel versions. To me they have an astringent, almost chemical note that I don’t care for. However, I absolutely love Jack Daniels rye whiskies. JD uses a higher percentage of rye in the mash bill and less corn than ryes from Rittenhouse, Old Overholt, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey, etc. I think JD is 70% rye, and I like it much better than ryes with a lower percentage.

    Thanks for the video. Your MSRP's are way off though. You can't find this years single barrel, barrel proof rye for $65. Frankly, it's almost triple that at a store that doesn't gouge per se (a large SoCal liquor store with multiple outlets that usually has very competitive prices.). But, they don't ignore reality. I mean the Sinatra bottle is a lot more than that, and I'm sure you wouldn't say it is better. The key point was Trenton's comment about how it is only a bit better than Willett Rye....which I CAN get for the price range. No reason to bother with Jack in that case.

    • @donaldalderman2424
      @donaldalderman2424 11 месяцев назад

      No the MSRP is $65. What the store sells it for has no bearing on MSRP. That store is gouging.

    • @ikiruyamamoto1050
      @ikiruyamamoto1050 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@donaldalderman2424 It does and it doesn't. Of course MSRP is whatever the manufacturer says it is (by definition). But if you can never buy it at that, then MSRP is a fantasy. Pappy 23 has an MSRP of $300. Good luck for getting under $4,000. In my opinion, liquor stores are not "gouging" if they are just recognizing market forces, and doing their best to cut out the flippers/secondary (instead of settling at the highest secondary prices). In a perfect world the distiller would get the most, followed by retail, followed by the distributor. Anyway, if a store was selling Pappy 23 at $1,500 instead of $4,000, I wouldn't call that "gouging". They're making an effort to sell it without being completely ignorant of market forces. So as I said, I have a couple trusted liquor stores that have very reasonable prices, but aren't dumb enough to sell allocated bottles at MSRP and have the flippers come in and clear their shelves. So you can find Russell's Reserve 13 at $200 instead of $400, etc.
