The new bottle has quickly become my favorite! I'm a rye guy, and this one just blew me away. Thanks for the great content!
Jack and I got into a fight back in my early 20's. I threw him out the same way he came in and never heard from him again. It might be time to make amends and create some better memories. Thanks for the video guys! really enjoyed it.
I couldn't find an age statement but the mash bill is 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley
On the Jack Daniel's "Around the Barrel" podcast (can't remember if it was the interview with Chris Fletcher and Lexie Phillips or the "Old Traditions, New Year" episode), it was mentioned that technically, everything Jack releases could qualify as bottled in bond if they proofed it to 100 so it's at least 4 years.
Loved the moment when Trenton needed to download a file! 😂
Is Trenton old enough to remember AOL dial up? Lol
His 1200 baud modem is having issues connecting.
The dial up sound when Trenton was thinking 😂
Received my 4 sample pack!!!! Absolutely amazing and professional packaging!! Great jobs guys!!
Fred Minnich showed this trick that helps with smelling aspect of tasting. Sniffing coffee beans before you drink or if you think your nose is off resets your sense of smell. It has helped me in the past and hope it can help yall.
Totally agree with Trenton on the Rye rankings Sagamore is killing it with ryes.
Thank you guys for this!!! Amazing video!!
I was fortunate to get a Limited Release and it is in my tops for not only ryes, but whiskey in general. Been waiting, probably like everyone else, to see if this line was going to happen and if they could create that same magic again in this line. Very much appreciate the side by side on this. I think the most promising take away I got from this was Trenton saying, "If you were to tell me this was just a different single barrel (of the 2020 release), I would believe you." That is music to my ears. Can't wait to try one. Well done...Cheers!
Ok after listening I can't agree more. I tried the BP Rye at a bottle share. It was amazing. And yes it's on the top of my Rye list. Very tasty and does not drink it's proof. Great job as always!!! #cheers
Great show guys. This JD SBBP Rye has just moved up to the top of my "must-have" list based on that review. I hope I can find it here in Rhode Island to help make up for the disappointment of not being able to find the JD 10 and 12 year bottles. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
You guys are so much fun to watch. I'm just sitting out on the deck sipping and smoking a cigar and enjoying. Cheers fellas.
love it! tripped across 2 bottles of the new barrel proof rye on the way home tonite...cant wait to enjoy! thanks dudes!!!!!
Got my Glycerin today and I was pleasantly surprised. Super cool packaging and the glass is really nice. Thanks Trent and Curt I really appreciate it.
Thanks. Always a pleasure to watch
Great review, guys. Willet 4 year is my favorite whiskey at the moment and yesterday I got a bottle of this new JD Rye so I can't wait to try it out.
Thanks guys. Looking forward to Friday’s live stream!
Look forward to buying me a bottle and great review! Cheers!
This is going to be a rye we’re going to have to keep an eye out for. Love a good rye, and you guys really sold this one!
My Glencairn arrived yesterday, very impressive. Thank you, cheers.
What a fun father/son duo! I have never had any of the higher end Jack Daniel's stuff. I must be living under a rock! 😂
Jack Daniels Single barrel and gentleman jack are pretty good and always available 🤙
Hey, I just came across your channel today, and i love the videos! I've watched about 12 of them in a row. I just watched your Bourbon Beginners Guide, but was still left with questions. I was wondering, if you can you do a beginners guide for Whiskey in general? (Differences between the types such as scotch, bourbon, Tennessee, irish, etc..) Maybe go more in-depth on the manufacturing process steps, and then give some recommendations for each category of whiskey at 2-3 different price points (Cheap, intermediate, enthusiast). I would REALLY love if you could do something like this, as I have been a Whiskey lover/drinker for about 6 years now, but know little to nothing about it! 😅
I finally just found the JD SBBR and it’s every bit as good as you say and your tasting notes are spot on. It’s $70 I was happy spending.
Good job guys…as always😊 Gotta love the Jack.
Another nice review! The twice barreled rye around me is 499.00-599.00 I walked into a gas station and they (had) a bottle for 145.00! Cheers!
Great video boys! Looking forward to trying this and to Friday’s livestream! Cheers!
I have been waiting very impatiently for this JD release as the JD SiBBP "regular" whiskey is one of my all-time favorites--in my top 10 (maybe even top 5).
I too waited impatiently! Do you happen to know if there is a way to ‘decode’ the barrel numbers for a rough barrel entry date? The 23 can’t be a coincident since we are in 2023, but clearly it isn’t the year of the barrel entry. Thanks!
SLB Classics
1:01 Indiana doesn’t get the good whiskeys
2:51 Kurt and Trenton are surprised that Kurt didn’t run his mouth
5:09 Neither Kurt or Trenton did homework?!?
5:54 1st candy note taffy
6:11 Kurt had a nose surgery?!?
8:32 mint and caramel had a baby note
11:14 great zoomed in Trenton thinking face
14:20 rye starburst. Never enough candy notes
17:20 Trenton is going to do homework?!?
I tried the Gold Labeled one last week, i liked it so much i went back and bought 3 bottles.... that is such a good Rye, well balanced, great spice, good sweetness.
Some of my favorite ryes other than the JDBPR are Michters BPR, Old Forester BSR, and the Alberta Premuim Cask Strength
As a lover of the Willett 4yr rye, you have my attention :)
I never have had a Rye as good as the SPECIAL RELEASE!!!
Really
Just had the JD Rye at Jack Daniels, easily my favorite Jack Daniels product
Both of those bottles are fantastic!
Trenton is spot on - when I started drinking ryes seriously maybe 10-12 years ago you would be lucky to see a handful in the store and maybe 2 or 3 in a good bar. Now we have been flooded w/a lot of MGP rye products, & I'm not saying they aren't good, but they aren't typically unique in any way either. Not a huge Jack fan, but I may have to give this one a go.
Excellent review! Now that Trenton compared to willet 4yr rye, I’ll have to go home and do the side by side. I’m glad we have the same exact JD Single Barrel Rye for comparison sake.
I’ve had both… both are excellent.
The 3 bottles of Willet 4 year I’ve had have all been phenomenal.
Probably my favorite rye ever.👍🥃
Lucky enough to find this just sitting on the shelf at $65. Not many bottles and I haven't seen it since. Jack Daniels SBBP Rye is currently my favorite rye.
Haven't seen the Barrel Proof yet, but I did find the Single Barrel Select version, Meijers store pick, bought it, went back the next day for a back up bottle.
No sign of it in CA yet ...I've been keeping my eye out. JD SBBP is my favorite bottle since getting into whiskey, was not able to get a JD12 when they dropped which was disappointing. Not the biggest rye fan but I will HAVE to get this bottle when they come around
This Rye sounds fabulous! I'm excited! Thanks for the terrific video. I am in Vancouver and I have to track this down!! Cheers!! 🙂
Good to hear from you again Christine!
@@slbdrinks So kind. Thank you.
I personally am not a fan of rye whiskey, since I find them too sweet, but I do have single barrel. barrel proof non-rye JD @ 130 proof, and it is one of my favorite bourbon whiskeys!
Sure hope I can find it down here in KC!
Cross the boarder into the chicago area. Binny's had the new jack daniels on the shelf weeks ago. I picked up a bottle of the 120 proof, I think it's the "barrel strength"
The regular JD SBBP is one of my favorite bottles, mine is pure banana cream pie. This new SBBP Rye is my most anticipated bottle. My fear is that as more people get turned on to the SBBP, they'll become another allocated release. In a relative short time, the regular SBBP has become harder to find. Same with Rare Breed, though that's showed up recently. I was lucky to get a bottle of the JD 12 year, i don't want to see these SBBP's become hard to get, atleast in my area of Arizona.
Good job! Enjoyed your interactions!
Would love if it were available here so I could try it....not worried about proof considering I enjoy Alberta Premium Cask Strength 100% Rye.
I really don't know if I'm a rye guy yet, but I think I'll find out now, because this review is a bit of an eye opener.
I was absolutely NOT a rye guy. Then I tasted some really good ryes like the JD special release and Sagamore Double Oaked, and have opened my mind. I will be looking for this one.
These guys are the best.
Great review, hoping that JD barrel proof rye becomes a regular shelfer
I had JD Single Barrel Rye for the first time this spring. No doubt it was the best Jack I ever had.
Love the rye content guys!
Ok you guys made that sound awesome, guess I’m gonna have to keep an eye out for it. Hopefully Harry has some soon. Cheers
Picked up a bottle of the SLB pick Sagamore Spirits 7 Year from Harry yesterday. Cannot wait to try. 🥃
Hope you love it Dave!
I have never tried the JD rye. Best rye I have ever tasted by a long shot in my opinion is Old Forester single barrel, barrel strength that weighs in at 131.3 proof. I located a bottle, and I paid too much for it but I’m glad I have it on my shelf. Cheers guys. 🥃
That’s a good one!
Next show willet Jack sagamore cask and pikesville
KURT!!!---TRENTON!!! This looks like a winner!!! I'm NOT a Jack Daniels guy, but this looks to good to pass up!!! I think I'd like this for sure!!! CHEERS!!!!
I've always had a problem with reyes being too sharp and pointed when I drink it.
I’m looking forward to this bottle hitting the uk.
Mashbill is apparently 70/18/12 rye/corn/barley and no aged statement on the single barrel BP. And it does not begin to compare to the special release rye. The new one is very hot with decent cinnamon banana nut bread. But the heat lingers too much and there is an earthiness about it.
Have y’all had the Emerald rye from Blue Run? I really enjoy it.
Just started on my whiskey journey after drinking beer for the longest. I found a pack of JD family line that had single barrel select. I tried some of it, and it's smooth, but all I could smell and taste was the alcohol. How can I tell what the notes of it is with smell and taste? Or does that come with drinking it for some time?
havent seen in my area. hope to see soon. cheers
We still haven't seen it on shelves in Texas. It's on the list.
Just stumbled on one of these driving through GA... 145 proof!!
I Love Jack Daniel's!
Can't wait for the Friday showdown!
Got him! 😂
I've decided to take the summer off from buying whiskey, but will make an exception for this bottle
Big rye guy and big Jack guy. Really looking forward to this one - and wonder if they’re going to do picks and Heroes Selections of the rye!
Hope so!
JD single barrel is my numero uno ❤
Have you guys tried Tanner Creek yet? Available in Indiana and made by MGP, only around $25-29/bottle and surprisingly nice!
Kurt and Trent, have you guys tried the Balcones Texas Single Malt? If not, I would highly recommend.
I do have a bottle. I was sent a couple samples of their special releases and it was awesome!
Great show 👍
I have a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel proof at 128.6. I love the regular Single Barrel…but the Barrel Proof version is spot on…albeit a tad hot. I can’t wait until the Jack Daniels 12 Year is released in Pennsylvania, I will be all over it!
Yeah, that's really good too. I have two different barrels. One is pretty good, and the other one is IMO incredible. After tasting that one I scrambled around to find a second one before that particular barrel was gone from my local store.
@@codelltaylor I've also had some of the more recent additions to the Jack Daniel's line: Triple Mash, Bonded and I managed to get a bottle of the 100% American Single Malt. All fantastic buys in my opinion. We are expecting the 12 Year and send run of 10 year here in PA soon.
Grabbed a bottle this week @137 proof for $65. Sold out again in the Atl area
Which one is better? The single barrel barrel proof rye or the single barrel barrel proof (bourbon)?
You need to try cantoctin creek roundstone rye whiskey. It's like smores in a bottle.
My palate changed late last summer and now all I get from most rye whiskey is dill. My single barrel JD rye, not as much. I'd have to try a pour before buying a bottle.
8 months later and still I've never seen the JD Rye SBBP at my local Binny's. I only just found it at a small shop the other day.
I'm in Miami. One shop wants $599 the other $75. Wild.
Love the JD Barrel Proof Single Barrel, but having trouble finding the JD Rye Barrel Proof.
Me too has it hit Indiana yet?
@@codyburgess7034 Not sure about Indiana, I am in Southwest Chicagoland and my Binny's Rep said he'll keep an eye out for the JD Rye, and put it aside for me.
@@SS-bp8yq cool here’s to hoping it’s available
What is a good rye to start with for someone who has never had a rye thanks
Try Pikesville
You boys have to try Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye. I am not a big fan of rye whisky, but the Alberta Premium is over the top.
It’s awesome
Really like your videos
I saw jack post this a few days ago and I want to try it so badly, but I know there's probably no chance of finding it here is SoCal.
Just got a SB Rye, incredible the first day then immediately went flat the next day going to a weird bubblegum flavor
I need 2 of the SLB glencairn glasses
Hopefully we will get more in soon at SLBdrinks.com
We in Arkansas just went to dead last on the list
I’ve never been much of a fan of Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey, even the single barrel versions. To me they have an astringent, almost chemical note that I don’t care for. However, I absolutely love Jack Daniels rye whiskies. JD uses a higher percentage of rye in the mash bill and less corn than ryes from Rittenhouse, Old Overholt, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey, etc. I think JD is 70% rye, and I like it much better than ryes with a lower percentage.
I see a JD Rye Single Barrell at our Binnys it has a Red Label, is this just their updated version?
Ahh it looks like the one you have on the video is a barrel proof version.
im pretty sure its the regular jack daniels mash bill, single barrel barrel proof. would love to be one of the guys responsible for sampling barrels to see if they make the single barrel program. im not a huge fan of JD but these sbbp's are delicious and deceptively easy to drink, i have a 129.5 proof and it drinks like a 100 proofer, it would ruin someone's day fast if they didnt know what they were getting into.
Not a big fan of Jack. However maybe I need to go back and try one of these 100 proof picks. In Ohio we have the same issue we rarely get any unicorns around here and special picks.
What is Trenton's favorite budget rye?
Old Forrester 100 Proof Rye :)
@@slbdrinks Thanks
Let’s hope we can continue to find it at msrp 65 bucks
Yes!
❤You know it’s gonna be good if Kurt can get Trent to 😂 in the intro ❤
How would you compare this to Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye?
I like AP just a tad bit better!
Interestingly...nose note are cool..but often don't equate to the flavor note...sometimes on various products...but we don't just nose a product, we drink it. Arguably, taste may be more important?
Exactly what I was looking for. Perfect comparison between these two gems. Job well done guys as usual!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I always get spearmint bubble gum on most ryes
So you guys are close to the world famous badlands paintball field !
Thanks for tasting the trany fluid for me cause I just can’t bring myself to do so.
Not for everyone that’s for sure
