@@josephbrown1743 Aids was virtually not really understood at that time. What happened to Ryan because of the transfusion, brought about the testing of blood for aids before blood is collected. I can also tell you that in the 1970s and 1980s even MEDICAL personal were afraid to give mouth to mouth respirations because we didn't fully understand the disease. Much like Covid-19 today. Ryan White became the hero warrior who helped educate ALL.

I knew that it wouldn't be long before it bacame an everybody disease, and it wasn't. They knew it was transmitted by body fluids but didn't know if it could be transmitted other ways as well. I can't thank you enough for remembering Ryan White and sharing his story. He has been on my mind so much lately. I think it's because the Covid -19 pandemic reminds me of the early days, when HIV/AIDS surfaced. No one knew much about it, much less how to cure it, rapid rise in deaths, and of course, a collective fear worldwide.
    God Bless Ryan White.
He deserved better. As for the ones that didn't want to be around him, okay, I guess. But what about the grownups that would drive by his house and throw things through the windows? Or that would call his house and say horrible things or threaten them? Those ignorant folks went looking for him yet, were afraid of him getting them infected.
They should've stayed in their houses and left him and his family alone.. They turned his last days with his family into a horrific 24/7 war zone that they couldn't escape. He did not die in peace.
    I'll never forget Ryan White.

People didn't understand AIDS back in 1981 and people were concerned about it but Ryan White was a sick boy who had health issues and he got AIDS blood transfer from another patient that affected. People turned against the White Family overnight and they made fun of Ryan too calling him names and it was b/c of fear. Ryan said that people would stare at him and he lost his friends and he wanted to go to school. He suffered so much from people who didn't understand. Elton John and several other celebs were in town at Ryan's bedside and decided to sing a song at Farm Aid. Ryan died the next day. I was pregnant with my first child.
