I always thought Aunt Jemima looked so sweet and kind, and as a child thought it would be so nice to get a big loving hug from her and hug her back. She was someone I wished I could hang out with in the kitchen like I did with my grandmother. I'm sorry her image is now viewed in a negative light and has been removed. I'll also miss Uncle Ben's image that I never viewed as negative or even as a servant but as a well dressed handsome black man. It's so odd what people find to object about. Throughout my life I viewed those two black iconic images as kind looking lovely friendly people. I didn't consider their race or any negatives associated with their images at all. The headstone was placed on September 5, 2020. The Aunt Jemima recipe was not her recipe, but she became the advertising world's first living trademark
The family actually doesn’t want her brand to be changed, it wipes away her legacy and history. The real tragedy is she didn’t make the wealth she should have to trickle down in her family.
This is what happens when you become so extreme on one side that you become the opposite. The so-called anti-racist, and the weak-kneed companies removed the Indian off the butter and a black woman off of its pancake products. Literally product "ethnic cleansing".
The family that spoke out about the brand change wasnt Nancy Green's. It was Anna Harrington's because the current image is of her, not Nancy Green nor Anna Robinson, both whom portrayed Aunt Jemima. Quaker doesnt need to remove it, rather they should be forthcoming with the truth of the history. The created life story of Aunt Jemima overshadows the real life stories of the black actresses. I feel exactly the same way. Is it racist to pay homage to the black community for delicious recipes like barbeque ribs, collared greens, corn bread, and fried chicken? Well these days apparently so.... I instantly thought of why she didnt want to get on a boat as she was a former slave she had either heard stories about the Middle Passage or was on a boat herself so of course she didn't want to ride boat "for work or travel"

I never knew she was actually a real person and not just a drawing of a person until the end of May 2020! I’m glad to know she was a real person with real family! She must’ve been a very nice and kind and friendly person for her to go off and talk about the pancake mix!
The company owes her family sooooo much money (millions) and they haven't paid up. They didn't want company to change name or image of brand but company was all for it to avoid having to pay or owe any money. I pray they take them to court and get what is owed to get her the headstone she deserves.
If in fact her family or anyone for that matter can produce a legal binding contract of these alleged millions then they can obtain very easily the services of a powerful attorney to rectify it.
How does the company owe her anything? She was literally a black model who took pictures for a company. One of the first black woman corporate models I will add. Not trying to take anything away from the woman she was or the impact she made on black families but the company literally owes her nothing. She made money from them. She had a better life because of them. They could have used any black woman model to play aunt jemima. Not to mention she was not the only woman used on their products. She had no part in manufacturing, planning, making the recipes or sales. Herself and her family have no say in whether her image stays on the packaging as she is not a partner or owner of the company. This does NOT mean she does not deserve the outmost respect, of course she deserves respect. But considering she was one of the first black woman millionaires whose earnings were inherited by her family and they decided to take her money and not honour her is their own issue and that should’ve been dealt with by the FAMILY.
I love her syrup! She was more than an icon...she was a part of history. RIP, Nancy Green/Aunt Jemima. Beautiful lady. Thank you, Lamont. Quaker Oats, should provide her with a headstone. Do the right thing...Quaker Oats! 🥞
Her life would have lived on through her character it shouldn’t have been removed everyone who agreed on removing her off the box has removed her memory. In about 10-20 years it’s sad to say this but no one will remember her hopefully she gets a plaque soon
I wonder if she ever told anyone how she felt about doing all this or did she realize the income and her well known face by hundreds of ppl was more an incentive?
nomo whites who is anyone to tell anyone else that they can’t have freedom of speech? Everyone has their own opinions and way of thinking so why does everything have to be one certain way. NOTHING on this planet is going to please ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY. That’s what needs to be understood. No matter what the situation is , whatever the narritve is ... not every single person is going to agree on every single thing that goes on. The world these days just seems to thrive on negativity .. loves to watch other people fail as long as it’s not themselves failing... loves to bring each other down... THAT is what is out of hand. Send positive vibes only 🌟✌🏼
This is great that Nancy Green has finally been given a Head Stone!! Ty As always Lamont Ty for bringing Truth to the fire front!! Keep up the Great Job.
Aunt Jemima came from the first generation after the end of slavery. During this transitional time, ex-slaves would often stay on, the difference being they were free to leave, could no longer be bought and sold as property. I saw Aunt Jemima as someone who loved the white family she worked for, which in turn loved her. A symbol of mutual unity of races, the exact opposite of racism.
As always, you called it beautifully Lamont. This ‘cancel culture’ BS is going to delete people like this amazing lady from our history to the point that nobody will even know she existed. We must STOP the insanity! Let’s condemn our wrongs, let’s not repeat them. But will will not know what wrongs were committed if they’re deleted!!!!
I grew up with Aunt Jemima and so did my kids. It sadness my heart my grandkids won't know anything about her. But as a grandma I'm going to teach them about her.
Aquaberry Aquarius WHAT? She was not a bottle she was a woman glamorous enough to be the face every kid grew up looking at. She deserves to be acknowledged as a famous woman with a career. Write that on her head stone with her picture on the bottle and her real picture if someone has one. No historical society will agree to a syrup bottle. That’s not respectful. This woman deserves RESPECT. As Aretha Franklin sang it.
Thanks for telling us about her, I always thought that lady had a great smile on the bottle- What a friendly face to see in the morning! She deserves a headstone- thats just sad.
It breaks my 💔 that she has no gravestone 😔 An Icon! I ate breakfast with Aunt Jemima her sitting on my kitchen table, several mornings, every week, as a child into adulthood. Would keep the bottles that were in the shape of her character, when I was a child. She was "grandma" to most of my barbie doll playtime. ❤ I wonder why the company (her face helped make famous), didnt purchase her a gravestone? Or living relatives? Up until this year, she was still prob top choice of syrup consumers? Man... this kinda really has me in my feels! 🙁 We, HUMAN BEINGS, need to put down the judging/pointing fingers, come together for the sake of this beautiful lady ( LEGEND❤), and remove her name from the list of the unknown graves. I will definitely do some research and gather information about the cemetery requirements for headstones and settings. Maybe a beautiful wooden cross? 🤔🤷♀️ ... Thank You for sharing Lamont! ❤ Stay Safe! Rest Easy Mrs. Green ⚘ To me, you will always be Aunt 🍛 Jemima! 💯 💛
I used to carry Aunt Jemima around with me as a child! I couldn't wait for the syrup bottle to be empty! *I LOVED HER* , and still do! Oh the memories.........
Today, Chicago’s Bronzeville Historical Society is working to change that. The city’s Bronzeville neighborhood has been home to Black American luminaries including Louis Armstrong (1901-1971), Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000), and Ida B. Wells (1862-1931). Many of those luminaries are buried in the neighborhood’s historic Oak Woods Cemetery. So is Green, but you wouldn’t know it: Her grave is tucked away next to a brick wall with no headstone.
Reaching to the age of 89 years old is a blessing and especially back then there were quite a few diseases and very little medical treatment for some like smallpox!
Thats a crying shame. Literally! This poor woman worked her entire life, she deserves better. I pray her legacy is remembered properly. God rest her soul. Love this video! She deserves a huge monument for her service!
The Harrington family is against it. The woman on the products now is Anna Harrington. Before May many didnt even know their were 3 different actresses. I keep seeing people say Nancy Green being erased, but then just skip over the other two women like they didnt exist.
All the families are not happy. But lets get real if it were not for Nancy Green it would never have been what it ended up being. That women was 83 years old working and traveling then got ran over and put in an unmarked grave then they take her face off the box like she didn't even exist.. No one put in as much as she did! She MADE that brand! She truly had the great injustice done to here.
It’s ashame snd very sad. She should be given recognition and there certainly should be a plaque addressing her historical history. In fact, Quaker Oats (I believe you mentioned) should have a memorial inside of their Corporate Offices.
She made that company millions, the least they could do is pay for a headstone.

This story is so sad, yes i hope she gets a deserving headstone or marker....
thank you Lamont for the TRUE STORY of her....
And your right , no one will know who she is from history the way they are changing it...
Sad, truly sad 😟
Nancy Green , 89 , R.I.P.
Yes well deserve we in Jamaica buys Aunt Jemima pan cake
Jill Huddle Yes...rest in paradise!
Damn Lamont you be traveling all over the country. You give great respect to the ones who passed away. Thank you.
Rip Nancy Green
Ty for keeping her memory alive.
Wow she definitely deserves a headstone. After all she did for that company and continued to do for that company that is the very least they could do. Thank you for sharing Lamont 😁.
Bless you for sharing this!🙏💐❤
It's too bad that no one interviewed her when she was older. Think of the changes in the world that she witnessed. Sounds like she led a hard, but interesting life. Hopefully, she won't be fogotten.
thank you for all you do lamont . My sister passed two days ago and it was totally unexpected . we will always miss her . I dont like being the one left behind because you have to live the rest of your life without that person in your life . So thank you so much and God bless .
No one *asked* Quaker Oats to remove Aunt Jemima they volunteered. She was fine as is.
For sure🙏🏻
I think some people asked I thought she be on the bottle until 2021
Because they are using her likeness and her family is not getting compensated ffs!
@@datamyt3 That is nothing new her family should be compensated
@@thesarcastic1915 I agree. Let's start with back compensation. Also, regardless of who Nancy Green is, the Mammy trope is offensive.
She definitely deserves a man-made headstone. Looks like Mother Nature gave her a beautiful tree 🌳♥️
Can you blame her for not wanting to take a boat ride to Paris ,
She was thinking Flash Back ,
I am not getting on no Damn Boat .
Right!!!! Boat rides never ended in ANYTHING positive for people of color
I instantly thought of why she didnt want to get on a boat as she was a former slave she had either heard stories about the Middle Passage or was on a boat herself so of course she didn't want to ride boat "for work or travel"
And this was not that long after the Titanic sank. There was most likely that fear as well.
Cant get me to get on one!!! I know i wasnt around , but i feel that in my soul.. Nope.
Where is it documented (surely it is) as to why she did not want to travel. There are so many reasons it could have been other than her color.
RIP, Nancy. Sorry your name is being tarnished by racists
Quaker Oats is who I was thinking should donate the money!
They certainly did benefit from her!
That is sad she died like that! I never knew she was actually a real person and not just a drawing of a person until the end of May 2020! I’m glad to know she was a real person with real family! She must’ve been a very nice and kind and friendly person for her to go off and talk about the pancake mix!
Right! I never knew it was a real person always thought it was fake
Thank you for the video
The company owes her family sooooo much money (millions) and they haven't paid up. They didn't want company to change name or image of brand but company was all for it to avoid having to pay or owe any money. I pray they take them to court and get what is owed to get her the headstone she deserves.
If in fact her family or anyone for that matter can produce a legal binding contract of these alleged millions then they can obtain very easily the services of a powerful attorney to rectify it.
Yes your right we dent get not one red cent!
Yes that company could have at least donated a headstone for all the money they made off of her
Thank-you for this.
May she continue to Rest in Heaven Nancy Green
Wow. I learned something new.. Thank you for taking the time out to share.
I love her syrup! She was more than an icon...she was a part of history. RIP, Nancy Green/Aunt Jemima. Beautiful lady. Thank you, Lamont. Quaker Oats, should provide her with a headstone. Do the right thing...Quaker Oats! 🥞
She will never leave my heart. She's a legend and was a very very good cook. Quite a woman she was. She deserves a monument.
Try the local historical society, if you haven't ,Lamont. Good Stuff You got going. History lives in You. Thanks
She was a human being too...she deserves a headstone
She definitely deserves a headstone. 💜💜was raised on her syrup. The very best and it was because of her motherly face.💜💜
Thank you Lamont. Well done. Be blessed.
Her life would have lived on through her character it shouldn’t have been removed everyone who agreed on removing her off the box has removed her memory. In about 10-20 years it’s sad to say this but no one will remember her hopefully she gets a plaque soon
Burn in 🔥 racist!
Ñ Jones How is my comment racist? 🤔
You didn't hear the news?? everything is racist nowadays
I wonder if she ever told anyone how she felt about doing all this or did she realize the income and her well known face by hundreds of ppl was more an incentive?
@@njones9484 maybe because not the image she would be remembered but just her face. Many ppl are remembered not by character but by their faces.
Once again outstanding job sir!! Job well done!!!
I agree, Lamont. Things are getting out of hand nowadays. Everything offends everybody. Sad.
nomo whites who is anyone to tell anyone else that they can’t have freedom of speech? Everyone has their own opinions and way of thinking so why does everything have to be one certain way. NOTHING on this planet is going to please ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY. That’s what needs to be understood. No matter what the situation is , whatever the narritve is ... not every single person is going to agree on every single thing that goes on. The world these days just seems to thrive on negativity .. loves to watch other people fail as long as it’s not themselves failing... loves to bring each other down... THAT is what is out of hand. Send positive vibes only 🌟✌🏼
Agreed
WHAT A GREAT EDUCATIONAL STORY I NEVER KNEW THIS BUT THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING.
Dammit, Lamont - now I am craving pancakes.
Right!?!
🥞🥓🥚🥞🥚🥓🥛🥞🥚🥓🥛🥞🥚🥓🥛🥞🥚🥓🥛🥞🥓🥚🥛
This is great that Nancy Green has finally been given a Head Stone!! Ty
As always Lamont Ty for bringing Truth to the fire front!!
I am really Sad they removed her , she was like a friend to me ...Real Sad :(
I thought she was a made up character. Wow. The more you know.
Uncle Ben on the rice box is real too.
Same here
She was a successful person in a time where the odds were stacked against her.
I have one of the original glass bottles Aunt Jemima I will treasure it forever 🥞
Great vid again Lamont 👍❤️
I love especially what you said at the end about cancel culture. Spot on.
Will you do an update of this story and if she gets a marker?
She has a marker now there was an abc news story about it
Thank you brother for sharing this very important article and story to us.
Best syrup to this day! They need to get her a headstone.
I like Log Cabin. My Grandma use to make homemade syrup it was really good.
@@erichauck5747 how about mrs. Butterworth's?
@@frankpaya690 Log cabin first then Mrs Butterworth's second then Aunt Jemima third.
IWAS WATCHING THE NEWS THEY FINALLY GOT NANCY GREEN AUNT JEMMIMA A HEAD STONE RIP
Syrup?? That shit is processed corn garbage... the only best syrup is 100% natural maple.
Thank you for your commentary 🙏🏾
Hit by a car at the age of 89? Jesus Christ.
You know it could of been done on purpose
Thank you for showing us her grave. She sounds like an amazing and gifted woman.
She deserves an aunt jemima syrup bottle headstone
That would be cool.
Great idea
Aquaberry Aquarius WHAT? She was not a bottle she was a woman glamorous enough to be the face every kid grew up looking at. She deserves to be acknowledged as a famous woman with a career. Write that on her head stone with her picture on the bottle and her real picture if someone has one. No historical society will agree to a syrup bottle. That’s not respectful. This woman deserves RESPECT. As Aretha Franklin sang it.
That's a pretty good idea
That would be so cool some one very special. I like her.
Thanks for telling us about her, I always thought that lady had a great smile on the bottle- What a friendly face to see in the morning! She deserves a headstone- thats just sad.
I bet she would've lived to 100 or longer
This is an excellent channel, I have learned information on many people, that you have covered, wow I will continue to watch, bless you
So sad to erase this beautiful lady's legacy. Should not happen.
She should be recognized and remembered with a beautiful headstone.
Hopefully someone soon will give her the beautiful headstone she deserves.
I appreciate you doing a story about her and her story...I think you're awesome....thank-you very much
It breaks my 💔 that she has no gravestone 😔
An Icon! I ate breakfast with Aunt Jemima her sitting on my kitchen table, several mornings, every week, as a child into adulthood.
Would keep the bottles that were in the shape of her character, when I was a child. She was "grandma" to most of my barbie doll playtime. ❤
I wonder why the company (her face helped make famous), didnt purchase her a gravestone? Or living relatives?
Up until this year, she was still prob top choice of syrup consumers?
Man... this kinda really has me in my feels! 🙁
We, HUMAN BEINGS, need to put down the judging/pointing fingers, come together for the sake of this beautiful lady ( LEGEND❤), and remove her name from the list of the unknown graves.
I will definitely do some research and gather information about the cemetery requirements for headstones and settings.
Maybe a beautiful wooden cross? 🤔🤷♀️
... Thank You for sharing Lamont! ❤
Stay Safe!
Rest Easy Mrs. Green ⚘
To me, you will always be
Aunt 🍛 Jemima! 💯 💛
I used to carry Aunt Jemima around with me as a child! I couldn't wait for the syrup bottle to be empty! *I LOVED HER* , and still do!
Oh the memories.........
Mandy Kay Mrs. Butterworth syrup is the one that one in the shape of the character.
Wow thanks Brother for this story. I never knew she was an real person. So many things we didn’t know but are now being uncovered. Thank God!
I know that many people loved to see her the face of Aunt Jemima taking her face off the packaging wasn't right. Rest in Peace Nancy Green.
Thank you very much for this information! God bless you and stay safe!
Please mark theses graves they do deserve at least that much and who ever is behind doing away with her memory u would be ashamed
I love what you do, and your subscribers do too. You are a Blessing.
This was a great video Nancy Green the real dream.
Wow thank you for sharing this. Hopefully she will get a head stone and more!
Lamont, I think it would be a wonderful idea to set up a go fund me fan page on your channel.
Thanks, Lamont. This was very interesting.
Reaching to the age of 89 years old is a blessing and especially back then there were quite a few diseases and very little medical treatment for some like smallpox!
Lamont thank you for uploading this video. I agree with everything you were saying about this great women. Thanks
Good Morning y'all. Good morning BB. Have a blessed day✌🏼Greetings from Central Coast Cali 🌅
Thank you for bringing this to the forefront.
I will miss her on our products. I loved her. When you had the syrup that looked like her you gave the good stuff for sure. May she Rest In Peace!
Thats a crying shame. Literally! This poor woman worked her entire life, she deserves better. I pray her legacy is remembered properly. God rest her soul. Love this video! She deserves a huge monument for her service!
Is the family having a say in all this, to take her image away for all that she did?
