Stories like these are not stories you tell a child. A kids mind is like a sponge and to tell or teach a young child white or black is a disservice and would not produce any kind of positive. This is a moment in our history that a college or high school child learns about.

My father told me that Mamie was his 4th grade teacher. They used to ask her if she would have more kids after Emmett and she told them all once, "No. I'll never bring another child into this world." That story always made me feel terrible when my daddy told it to me.

Good morning Lynn. You said; "I'll never bring another child into this world."
Now, Lynn. No disrespect for Mamie Till. But she did not have a child for 14 years after Emmett was born. What would have been her reason for those 14 years.
      _________________________
The truth be known, Mamie married her 4th husband at age 36. Which would have meant that she cold have had a child at 37.
In those time 30 was the age at which you did not have more children. It was considered DANGEROUS to have a child at 35

Poor mother and R.I.P. Emmett Till, but not bringing another child in this world solely because the previous one died is pretty unwise (to not say stupid), it was not her fault that her son died after all…

@@LadeeLibra646 "I had my last child 36 and he was fine."
Absolutely. And millions or women did. Maybe it was an irrational fear. I am just saying that might have been a factor.
And Mamie might have been so incredibly devastated by the loss of Emmett, she just did not want to climb back on that horse again.
Plus Mamie had moved on. The tragedy propelled Mamie into her education, getting a BS, and Ms, teaching, she had a fully productive life.

Emmett Till's murder was a watershed moment in the civil rights movement. That last senseless violent death POC were willing to tolerate. Rosa Parks said she thought of Emmett Till the second before she made her stance against racist laws. Miss Maime's boy did not die in vain.
Below is an excerpt from Parks' interview with Eyes on the Prize a documentary television series about Civil Rights Movement.
Parks later said about being asked to move to the rear of the bus, "I thought of Emmett Till - a 14-year-old African American who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after being accused of offending a white woman in her family's grocery store, whose killers were tried and acquitted - and I just couldn't go back." Blake said, "Why don't you stand up?" Parks responded, "I don't think I should have to stand up." Blake called the police to arrest Parks. When recalling the incident for Eyes on the Prize, a 1987 public television series on the Civil Rights Movement, Parks said, "When he saw me still sitting, he asked if I was going to stand up, and I said, 'No, I'm not.' And he said, 'Well, if you don't stand up, I'm going to have to call the police and have you arrested.' I said, 'You may do that.''

When I read the story of the funeral, mom insisted the casket be open was sad enough; but knowing that the sight of him made people faint I burst into tears. I’m not a crier, but I am an empath…I cannot even imagine his family’s pain. This is one of hundreds of stories in this country over the centuries, that we will never know. I’m horrified at what has happened on our soil. It should not be forgotten because nothing like this should EVER happen again.

Emmett was a child. Just a baby compared to the ages of the monsters that murdered him. Boys will be boys. It is pathetic that two grown ass men would torture and mutilate a boy because of a "cat call" whistle.
Shame on those who were chosen to jury that trial. In a time of diversity, the color of one's skin should not be the deciding factor between gulity or innocent. It is about COMPASSION AND LOVE FOR ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.... A CHILD, that should have hung the trash that stood to be judged that day. Yet, HATE and the color of one's skin is what set them free.... its a shame!

I'm here by way of Mobile Instinct. I think I'll hang around a while. Looks like I have two new channels to subscribe to....but honestly, thank you for shedding more light on this subject.
The Emmett Till story makes me more emotional than any movie scene I've ever watched. His mother was a smart, brave woman. She KNEW that Mississippi authorities were going to try to sweep this under the rug. Controversial as it was, publishing his photos gave the whole "sunshine and rainbows" crowd a REAL glimpse into the potential horror of what some garbage people will try to get away with. Instead of Chicago having an unsolved missing person case, and Mississippi having an unidentified John Doe she turned on the proverbial flashlight and told the world "Look at what they did! Don't just hear the rumors, and the tales spun by the guilty party's associates...but LOOK at what they did!"
I'm rambling a bit...sorry. It's a bad habit of mine...but I think the double jeopardy amendment should have an addendum...because people who fool the juries and judges of the world and get out of criminal charges can LITERALLY say out loud "yea, I did it" and because there's already been a trial, nothing can be done. I understand the usefulness of the amendment, but much like any common Batman storyline, someday someone important will realize there's circumstances in which protective laws become shackles. The concept conceived to aid an innocent person has been used the wrong way, and now the law is working against itself.
Futility. The art of defeating the purpose.

When it's gone past the point of having her son alive it's time to fight for your child. Fight for the world to see and move people to put a stop to these horrible murders. She help light the fire for civil rights. And I hope she had some peace in the end. There so much more to this story that's came out. And I hope the full turth will come out and by investigation find all who was involved for guilty. Dead or alive those people names should go down in history as the murders as associated with the murder of a young man, who was turly still a child. Not guilty verdicts should be over turned because there was never a full investigation or fair trail for justice of Emmett murder most foul.

Watching the story of Emmett Till I literally vomited when I saw what " they" did to him! His Mother ordered that the casket be opened so everyone could see him. This shook my soul!

No, these stories must never, ever, be forgotten. I remember when I first heard about this story. It made me so mad and heartbreakingly sad and filled with admiration for his family, particularly his mother...the guts and true integrity it must have took his mother to expose this atrocity and the cover up. Fierce love. And have to endure that trial that was no trial at all but a despicable miscarriage of justice. Wow. His handsome dapper face...gets me every time.

A sad and heartless story to a young man who did not deserve to die the way he did!!! His mother Mamie Till was his best advocate. Years later the woman he whistled at said it didnt happen when it did. Sad. RIP Emmitt Louis Till!!!💙💙💙🙏🙏🙏😞😞😞

Him and my Mama was the same age I'm 60 years old I heard what Happened to him at a very young age and when I got older I search other truths I have cried a million tears for Emmitt Till. He did not die in vain God uncovered the evilness of the state of Mississippi and its deep deep racism that it has always had.

While the story of Emmett Till is truly tragic one other young man comes to mind. George Stinney who was falsely accused of murder, imprisoned, and found guilty. He was still a child when he was executed in the electric chair in South Carolina in 1948, I believe only 12 or 14 years old. He was not allowed to speak to his parents and the lawyer assigned to defend him did nothing. Maybe you should visit the grave of this poor child so no one forgets what hate does.

His Mother was so brave to have a open casket viewing, this shocked people into doing something about the hatred. I'm so sorry she had to go through this seeing how much her beloved Son suffered. Her heart must have broken everytime she looked at him at the viewing. "Vengeance is mine sayth the Lord " We know how the killers were judged. Blessings to the Family.

I've seen several stories about this child. What was done to his poor little body was horrible. He was beaten and tortured beyond recognition. Nobody, deserves to be treated like that.
They were freed by man's law, not by God's law.
    R.I.P little one. 🙏
