I’m sorry but I can’t feel sorry for her, she played a big part in the torture and murder of a young boy and got away with it. As long as the protesters don’t break in to her home, they have every right to show that her getting away with it is so wrong. She could be 100 years old and I would still argue that she should be in jail

    • @Carlton_Wilson

She played no part at all in the torture and murder of Emmitt Till. She merely told her husband what had occurred. Her account matched that of Till's cousins who corroborated her story of his inappropriate behavior. Sorry, but those are hard, established facts.
Emmitt Till's murder was a horrific crime, but she didn't do it.

I don't think Caroline Bryant has been living "her best life". Since 1955, she been hounded by the media, and pointed out to people who knew her. Her husband, Roy, was physically abusive to her, and cheated on her constantly. She remarried but could find little to no peace she went, because she was always pointed out as the woman who Emmet whistled at. So believe me when I say, she has been in "jail" for 67 years!!

I’ll never forget sitting in a high school sophomore English class where we had a unit that discussed racism and it’s representation in literature. Another boy shouted something like, “racism doesn’t exist anymore anyway!” I rolled my eyes but ignored the comment.
The teacher silently nodded while pondering something. She stood up, grabbed the phone… stepped out of the classroom. She re-entered the classroom and sat down silently… such a long silence it seemed. We weren’t sure if the kid was in trouble or what was happening. Just then a social studies teacher came in and plopped a large book on the desk before exiting. The English teacher open the book, scanned carefully to a particular section.
She started in the front of the classroom and placed the open book on the student’s desk, the teacher directed us to look at the page, say nothing, and pass it to the next. It was silent… save for what sounded like sniffles and occasional throat clearing.
The book arrived to me… and there on that page was Emmett Till. There he was in that photo you always see of a beautiful boy with a sweet little smirk. Right on the opposing page was the open casket photo; so everyone could see what they had done to him. It was then that I felt my eyes burn and well up with tears. The boy who spoke out received the book… he could not look at the photos.
Then the teacher spoke and said. This was a boy just a bit younger than you. A boy who was tortured, defiled, and murdered out of racism, bigotry, and hatred. This child would’ve been the age of some of your grandparents… it was not that long ago.
It was one of the most powerful things I’d ever seen a teacher do in the classroom.

He showed his ass and behaved inappropriately towards Mrs. Bryant. He did. This is a long established FACT.

Lamont, I know and fully understand what you are saying and agree a mob mentality on this is not going to fix anything at all. On one hand I am mad. I am mad because she lived 80 some odd years without any remorse, no punishment, no apology for what she did. She had at least 70 years to come forward, clear the air, do her apologies. Maybe even explain to the world why she felt she was not in the wrong for what she. Instead, she lived her life, at sounds like for the most part she had a very nice life. A nicer life then about 50% of the population. Did she deserve that life? NO! I am sure if her husband beat her and abused her, she would have eventually come clean about it all, but she never did. Even years after she was free from him, she did not do a thing accept ignore she ever did anything at all. Ignored it like it never happened. I know Emmitt Till's mother was a Godly woman in her own right. She had a bigger heart then I ever would. His mother was above me and for that, that cancer ridden women should have been damn grateful. In my mind's eye, Carolyn Bryants still owes Till's mother and the world, and even Emmett Till the TRUTH and above all she owes Emmett and his mother an apology before she dies. If there is a GOD, I beg him to have that lady do what she needs to do and gives what Emmett and his mother (no matter they are dead) deserve to hear. Carolyn Bryants owes them that much. Then she can suffer to her last breath and be gone from this world.

@Lamont at Large I'm just so taken with your open mindedness and humanness. That's pretty much what I
feel most strongly about right now. What happened to that precious little boy is sadly something that can never be undone. His dear Momma is with him now after all of these years. But she lived every day with grief, sadness and without having resolution or peace in that there was never any justice for Emmett's murder. She woke up every morning of every day thinking that her nightmare was just a bad dream and realizing that it wasn't. For her, I would imagine, that it seemed as though it just happened yesterday. The pain she endured through the years is heartbreaking. That's all I can really think about. Mrs. Bryant will have to answer to a higher power ultimately. We may not see justice or punishment served while she is still on this earth.

Elderly or not, Carol Bryant belongs in prison! Per witnesses, Carol Bryant's husband, Roy Bryant, took her to Emmett Till's uncle's house and she pointed him out AFTER her husband and his brother barged uninvited into the uncle's house, snatched 15-year-old Emmett Till out of his bed, and dragged him outside for Carol Bryant to identify. After she identified Emmett, her husband and his brother kidnapped him, tortured, shot, tied a fan to his had, and then threw him into a river. CAROLYN BRYANT IS AN ACCESSORY TO THE LYNCHING OF EMMETT TILL BEFORE THE FACT AND AFTER THE FACT. For that alone, she should have been tried, convicted, and sentenced to serve time in prison. HOWEVER, that never happened because the WS sheriff decided it was not in the best interest of her children to serve her and haul her off to jail.

"On Friday August 26, Carolyn's husband Roy returned from Texas, where he had been hauling shrimp. That afternoon at his store, a young black customer told Roy Bryant what "the talk" was all about, and identified a visiting teenager from Chicago as the offender. To do nothing after hearing the story involving his wife, Bryant later told an interviewer, would have shown himself to be "a coward and a fool." Returning home, Roy asked Carolyn if there was something she wanted to tell him. Her denial angered Roy, and he demanded to hear his wife's version of what had happened inside the store."
