    I heard of this story from an old friend in Ohio.
    She said that while in prison, Betty never socialized with the other women, and by the time she was executed, many began to think that there may be truth in Betty's allegations of unwanted advances by the victim, and that's why they fought so much, and she couldn't take it anymore and snapped.
    Betty deserves a headstone and prayers for her soul just as the victim does - that's how we can show love and compassion to both, and leave judgement to God.

    My Uncle made my Grandpa's stone, himself. My Grandpa made all the boys, my daddy and 4 brothers, learn the trade that he had as they were growing up and beginning to work. He poured concrete for ppl and he and my dad built the majority of the older brick churches in Huntsville, Alabama. So after my Grandpa died, one of my Uncles made him his own stone himself, but between he, my dad and one of my other Uncles they had him another stone made with the brick mason sign and tools on it and had it put up, but his first one was handmade...nothing wrong with that at all because at least they will have a marker. God bless you Lamont...

      There is definitely not anything wrong with that because I'm 65 and my great great grandfather left us a cemetery for the family so we will have a place to be buried 10 years ago I walked through the cemetery and only found 42 tombstones and they're actually 300 people out there so that led me to go into family search and look at everybody who died and I'm sure there are a lot I missed and make tombstones and just set them on top of a grave because we have a great locator. So make it homemade tombstones is a blessing it is tired some on my back but I know I can't stop I feel that once a person is born into this world you here for a purpose not to eat all the time and suck up air you have to leave something behind something positive

    Lamont, when you talked about the missing gravestone, I felt the need to speak of my father George here. Perhaps some commenters might read, and think of him. He has no gravestone for the reason you mentioned...exorbitant costs. My dad passed in 1971. His name was George Ellis. He was a fine old Texas gentleman who put himself through college driving cattle on horseback. He became a pharmacist. He was an old time hard-working man, who loved tap dancing, football half time shows, and banana pudding. He never spoke an unkind word in our home, and he worshiped my mother. I miss him still every day. We never were able to put a marker on his grave because with all the fees, it came up to over $2000. So he rests on a grassy knoll, under a big tree, in Houston Texas. No one will ever pass his resting place and look at his names and dates and wonder about his life. I am a world away now, but I know he would love where he rests.

    Did you tell the story of Lena Baker the first and only black woman who was executed in Georgia's electric chair? She was exonerated years later.
    But you should also do one about the "Murder in Coweta County" the story of John Wallace a moonshiner who owned a dairy business as a front who murdered one of his fired sharecroppers over stealing two guernsey milk cows. He practically owned all of Meriwether County in Georgia. He had the sheriff of Meriwether County Hardy Collier in his back pocket. His biggest blunder was he killed his victim in the opposite County. Coweta. The sheriff of Coweta County is Albert Lamar Potts.
    The most interesting thing about this is it's the first case in American history where a rich landowner was put to death in the electric chair on the testimony of two black men.

      The fact that people such as Lena Baker are executed and then found not guilty later should be enough reason to be anti-death penalty. Only a blood thirsty ghoul would find justice in an act that killed the non-guilty along with the guilty. Who's the real bad guy in that scenario?

    I saw this on IDTV and Betty’s husband kicked her out of their house. Some guy said he saw her kissing a woman. The lady that took her in was a swinger with her husband. Betty thought she was going to get a place to stay while she was trying to get her life together. This lady kept coming on to her, and Betty was feeling awkward. Betty went fishing on a boat with this lady, and a guy. The lady came onto Betty while on this boat. The guy on the boat broke up their confrontation. When they got back to shore the lady tried to come on to Betty again, and Betty grabbed a bottle and hit the woman in the head, and took her scarf to choke the woman to death.

    I enjoyed the end of the story; the advice about arguing and going for a walk in the cemetery. If those buried could say, “thank you for visiting me.” Maybe that’s why the walk is calming. Kindness. Great news, keep spreading the word out there, Lamont!

    Hi Lamont thank you for this story. I love to tune in to your podcast because I do not know what story you'll be telling. I'm here in the UK and obviously we do not get to hear about these local home-grown stories/ tragedies (unless they're turned into films) as I'm interested in life's sad stories, tragedies, mysteries and deaths, I look forward to your next podcast. So sorry that this lady haven't got a headstone, even paupers here in the UK have markers. It's not so much the headstone that's the cost here, its the words, the more words the cost. But almost everyone prepared for their funerals, covered by insurance, as myself and my parents. My recently departed parents headstone is yet to be laid and it's going to be beautiful, we are just waiting for the grave to settle, hopefully next year. It's such a shame for that lady. Makes me wonder what happened to her children. .

    • @geezerp1982
      @geezerp1982 2 года назад

      thats not quite true , paupers or persons who have no money who have to berried on the expense of the county will likely not get head stone !
      fun fact ; executed felons were berried within the prison grounds in a unmarked grave ! it was part of the sentence of death

    • @vetty1405
      @vetty1405 2 года назад

      @@geezerp1982yes, I know about the executed felon, and you are right about paupers, what I should've said is "some" paupers speaking about people I know and heard of.

      Exactly! It's crazy how most of the comments are "Rest in peace to Betty" Evelyn was the one murdered, none of us know the true story, but it seem like everyone is just disregarding her... I also thought he was going to show her last resting place 😕

    Oh, why didn't her late husband give her a little marker? Or even the owners of the Cemetery, a cement marker poured in the ground with her name on it. She was a person after all, whether people thinks she needs a marker or not.

    Wow, this case is uber obscure. Good scholarship there, Lamont! I am thinking that her kin can't afford to give her a stone for her grave because of the cost, or maybe the whole story behind how she committed her crime probably mortified her family too much that they don't want to publicize her exploits any more than it was already known back then. Anyway, good on you for offering to craft a marker for her grave.
