Russell Yates was warned, and he didn’t heed the warnings of the medical professionals. They were told not to have more children, and they were told not to leave her alone with them. Just a terrible situation. Thank you for sharing this story, and doing it so well.

The father may have been the one to leave the mother alone with the kids but he isn’t the one who drowned their children plus I don’t think he even knew that his wife was going to even drown the kids when he left plus he didn’t tell his wife to drown their children and besides he had to leave for his job so he can earn money to support his wife and kids so in a way he technically had nothing to do with the murder of their children

He worked for NASA, obviously educated, made good money, had good health insurance, got mental health care, had a diagnosis, was told not to leave her alone with the children, and ignored it. He should have been charged at the very least, as an accessory to the murders. They need to bring back mental institutions, as she clearly needed to be institutionalized, even if it was involuntary, as do many others.

True. It's hard when those you are trying to help, live in denial. They don't see the truth. Medications don't solve the whole problem. That's why I go the extra yard. I take phonecalls all times of day and night. We all at one point or another suffer depression. A person need to forget about pride, what others may think. There are support groups out there. Counseling, therapy helps. What is sad, many mental health places are closing thier doors. This been going on since the late 80s when hospitals let those who had severe mental illness out on the street. They didn't care. They had no where to go. Many even young people went into nursing homes. Or was left to friend for themselves. Lot long term facilities were closed, even our Veterans lost the only home they had. It's sad. That's why this country has a homeless population. Letting those who need 24 hour care are given a check, pills. Pills don't work if no one is there to make sure you take them. They are often abused, used, sometimes killed. I find more and more, people have become heartless, lovers of themselves. It's all about them. They have what they need, nice home, car. Nice bank account. So they forget about the little people. Bless you for sharing.✌️🙌🌻🦋🌠❤️🖖🙂👋. Love, respect and positivity always.vee and family.

After being told repeatedly by doctors not to have more children, Rusty pushed her to have the last baby. Andrea told him and the doctors repeatedly how she was feeling and what was wrong and wasn't taken seriously. Lamont, thank you so much for speaking up about mental illness stigmatization. Rusty Yates was more culpable than Andrea. He made her stop her schizophrenia medication to have more kids. I’ve had mental health problems for most of my life. It’s horrible how those with mental health problems are treated. I’ve personally experienced trauma from not only my own toxic family but also, healthcare professionals. I’m trying to make a difference though, I’m about to finish my MS degree in psychology. I want to help those like me. However, I am only one person. Thank you for advocating with your platform

The person to blame is the children's father. He knew and had been warned against leaving the children alone with Andrea, and chose to leave them anyway. I feel for both parents in this case. Andrea is a sick woman, and yes her illness led her to kill her sweet innocent babies, but in her moments of clarity can you imagine her grief. She didn't kill out of anger, her mind led her to believe that death was saving them. Prison was no place for her, she's where she needs to be. I do think her husband should be held to some form of responsibility. I do give him credit for testifying on Andreas behalf. Even after remarrying!

I lived in Clear Lake for a few years and I have friends whose parents still live on that neighborhood. I pass that house often visiting them on different holidays, and I always slow down and say a little prayer for the kids and Andrea, too. It's a tragic situation. But Andrea was mentally ill and shouldn't have been left alone with those kids that morning! He's just as culpable as she is in this situation. Rusty KNEW she shouldn't be alone with the kids. She shouldn't have been alone, period! She could have killed herself with her history of suicide! She never should've had more kids after the 3rd, but especially the 4th. Rusty made her stop her psych meds and get pregnant with Mary, knowing what it would do to her. I fault him more than her for this tragedy. Those poor kids would all be adults now, possibly with kids of their own. I pray she's doing better, too. She couldn't help what her mind was doing to her sanity.

They told Rusty that Andrea had suffered from postpartum depression after each of her children’s births and told them not to have any more children. This was before she became pregnant with Mary. I think he should have been held accountable as well because, if he had followed the doctors’ orders, those kids would very likely be alive today. He divorced Andrea and remarried in 2006. He had one son with his second wife and she filed for divorce in 2015.
