My grandpa used to call this a Hobo stove...when we would go camping every year, he would make up things like this to keep us kids entertain..the things he made for us would be unbelievable I am sure the items he made were for survival when he was growing up in Texas back before WWl....we would call fun stuff, Grandpa's stuff.....good stuff. ...I remember him making a rope thats was about 50 feet long and then cutting it down to about 15 feet and giving it to each of his grandson.. I had that rope all the way through Boy Scouts ..such is life
Those are indeed wonderful memories to cherish forever. Thank you for sharing them!
I was blessed with one of those grandpops too. He had six grandchildren all girls He lived in a place on the water had boat dock and 6 little cabins he rented out in summer months. In those days there was no ac so city folks would vacation on the water in tbe little rental cottages.
Our family
Came for Sunday dinner every week and every holiday. After Grandmom served dinner Grandpop gathered us up and out we went for our
Nature walks, water survival lessons, land survival skills, how to fish, use tools, crabbing, canoeing etc. after our life lessons were over we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and made hot choc and we sat around and he told us his war stories, then finished up with once upon a time stories so we ended with fun happy child hood memories. Miss you Grandpop 💕
@@sharonadams701 I now have 6 grandkids myself and the only grandpa they have and I try to be what my grandpa's met to me growing up ....
@@davekirby7790 I’m sure your a wonderful Grandpop. Stay well and keep up the great work.
@@davekirby7790 You sir, have something I always wanted but never got. Didn't want money, fame or glory? I would have been happy with just one grandchild but if I had to rent a bus to fit them all in for a trip to the zoo or camping? Even better!
Yes, I am jealous, envious and a few other emotions mixed in but at the same time, I am also very happy for you. Those kids are a blessing and as far as I am concerned ( For whatever that is worth? Lol ) you are a rich man! Just like money, spend your time wisely.
Doing things as a family no longer seems to be the normal way of life? I was blessed by 2 sets of grandparents and 2 great grandmothers that I would see weekly and they all had a wonderful influence on my life. I'm not sure why I am rambling on here? Anyway, enjoy those kids and never forget the treasures they really are because if you do it right they will never forget you.
I love the way my kids and friends just stare when I pull out a tiny kit and start cooking wherever we happen to stop for a rest also great for bank fishing
Very cool indeed. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate that you always pause to be thankful for the food before you eat without drawing attention to doing it. It shows good character.
Thank you so much, my faith is very important to me. I appreciate you watching the video and also your kind words!
I do to because too many people pray before they eat just for show and then start cussing about politics or whatever it is in their lives that they are mad about that they can't change anyway, they are not real, this man is real!!!
Same here. May God bless ! 👍
+1. Good observation
🙄
I appreciate that you always pause to be thankful for the food before you eat without drawing attention to doing 🙏
Thank you for noticing. My faith is very important to me.
Hey watched the hobo cooking can and fry pan brought back old memories of the coal mine tracks and shafts we played in and camped in as kids. A lot of this came out of german war and into 20s and 30sm We were taught these how to's in scouts from men of ww2 and Korea as scout masters. Great stuff still use this today. Great men and memories. Thanks for keeping this A live.
Yes, what an amazing generation of men and women they were! Thanks for watching.
In today’s world of uncertainty this would be great to keep in a “bug out bag” for emergency situations. And maybe keep one bigger one or several small ones for more people. Thanks James. Always good to be prepared
True!
Um why have it in your bug out bag have the food still in the can in your bug out bag and eat that then make the grill after you eat it. That way you have atlest 1 meal
Works brilliantly! I used leftover charcoal that was only half burned from the last grilling. Good way to use up the bits when you only need one burger. Thank you!
Excellent! Glad you liked it!
Appreciate your videos very much. Love it that you're "low tech" showing the simple things and how to utilize them. You're a good teacher (I've had a stroke & many things are difficult to understand) but, your way of teaching is great and the clear up close videos explaining & demonstration makes it to even I can understand. Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Thank you so much, glad you're enjoying the channel!
@@WayPointSurvival i have a stroke after watching the video...
It's refreshing and very satisfying to see someone show you how to make good gear without spending a bunch of money. Damn good job!
Thank you so much!
Noticed you said a quick prayer before eating. Thank you for your videos. 👍
Thanks for watching and noticing!
UR uncannily creative young man! A+ from an old teacher.
Thanks so much!
Brilliant, you can also remove a few coals from a campfire if you don't want to cook over a bigger fire. My smallest coal grill is bucket sized, great improvement.
Thank you!
Love the idea for the fan cover for a grill!
Thank you!
Great information on the computer fan grills and the can to use. I have used one or two charcoal briquettes in my Firebox Nano stove and they worked great, slow even heat, no worry about flame impinging onto the food. Easy to carry with no worry about fuel spilling.
Thank you!
Nice! Learn how to make a press and make your own briquettes and you'll have your system complete in time for the collapse. 22 oz soup cans work for cooking stoves. But don't last.
Thanks much as always!!! Blessings to you and your family 👼🇺🇸 stay safe!
And thank you too, my friend!
Great idea once again. Thanks! Love and blessings from Ontario Canada!
You are so welcome and thank you for watching!
Thanks again James. Another good one. Keep em coming Sir. Appreciate you.
So glad I found your channel, the innovation and creativity is amazing. Sure you can spend a fortune on gear but there is something special about using something you crafted yourself.
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Awesome, will fix one with my Grandson. He’ll love it.
Great job thankyou very much, have a blessed day
Reminds me of the old Coffee can stoves that we used to make in the Boy Scouts when I was a kid! Just something about using everyday things for other purposes! Thanks for the video!!!
Thank you for watching!
Yeah man can you believe this is just now showing up again. Great stuff we learned from the old warriors as scout masters. Way ahead of their times. Love the memories Enjoy and share that's what those guys did for us!!
Great hack , so far my grandsons are having a great time with the ones they have,Keep up the great work.
Awesome! Thank you!
I just bought two grills from AMAZON, one for my Mrs B,and one for myself. These will go into our ready to go quick grab bags. Thanks for the info on those. Very good to watch again James. From BB in the UK
Excellent! You're welcome and thanks for watching and commenting again!
Amazon seems these even cheaper, or in reasonable quantities, but be sure to get steel, or steel/chrome. I'd avoid nickel.
this is brilliant.
I can hardly wait to do this with my grandsons. Great idea! Thanks
Excellent,thanks for watching!

I really like this. It's a solution from searching through many overworked, complicated and expensive alternatives. Thanks!
Thanks so much and I'm glad that you liked it!
Awesome I totally get it. Thanks. Happy Trails!
Thank you so much!
Drove BigTruck for 20 yrs. I used 9x5 loaf pan, steel strapping from pallets for legs, lath for grill top. Easy fit in my sidebox 😀
love the DIY videos I made one a while back still use it .
Excellent! Glad you were able to make it and use it!
Excellent step-by-step demonstration. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Love your videos James
Thank you!
another great idea god bless
Thank you, God bless you too!
Great project 👍. I personally don't like match light, to me it gives the food a lighter fluid taste. I might try a little lump charcoal and a fire starter. I definitely like anything grilled best.
Thanks for watching.
Yes. Match light needs a little longer to burn off. I also put on top a little dry sticks to help the burn off and flavor. So give that a try you'll love it
You have such great ideas. I'm really enjoying and find myself looking forward to your posts!!! I'm really enjoying my gasifier which is not exactly the same thing but which has a lot of the same characteristics of portability, efficiency, multiple fuels, and lightweight. I don't think I'll switch to this single stage but it really is a great idea to have in the 'back pocket'. Thanks for your great work!
Thanks for watching and for the kind comments!
Another cute little stove. Thanks 🙂
Thanks for watching.
Very nicely done! Thank you. :-) The whole thing was very creative, but I think that’s just about the most compact and lightweight little fork I’ve ever seen. What a great Improv.
Thank you for watching.
Man these make EXCELLENT gifts that people actually want and enjoy!!!
Good idea!
LOVE IT! looks ideal as a pot stand for my spirit stove too.. very cool
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
@@WayPointSurvival spent all afternoon watching your vids, (i'm in uk) and ordered myself some of the fan grills to try it out, but also to add to an existing stove, never even thought about using them before, so thanks.

Hi James , just found this video and this grill is got to be in my kit . It just looks fun to have , something different. Maybe use a solid fuel to make a hot drink in the hunting blind on a cold day hunting. Thanks for the video and God bless.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!
Great project. I like to prep my burgers by kneading in a package of onion soup mix ahead of time. It adds a lot of flavor.
