My grandpa used to call this a Hobo stove...when we would go camping every year, he would make up things like this to keep us kids entertain..the things he made for us would be unbelievable I am sure the items he made were for survival when he was growing up in Texas back before WWl....we would call fun stuff, Grandpa's stuff.....good stuff. ...I remember him making a rope thats was about 50 feet long and then cutting it down to about 15 feet and giving it to each of his grandson.. I had that rope all the way through Boy Scouts ..such is life

I was blessed with one of those grandpops too. He had six grandchildren all girls He lived in a place on the water had boat dock and 6 little cabins he rented out in summer months. In those days there was no ac so city folks would vacation on the water in tbe little rental cottages.
      Our family
Came for Sunday dinner every week and every holiday. After Grandmom served dinner Grandpop gathered us up and out we went for our
Nature walks, water survival lessons, land survival skills, how to fish, use tools, crabbing, canoeing etc. after our life lessons were over we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and made hot choc and we sat around and he told us his war stories, then finished up with once upon a time stories so we ended with fun happy child hood memories. Miss you Grandpop 💕

@@davekirby7790 You sir, have something I always wanted but never got. Didn't want money, fame or glory? I would have been happy with just one grandchild but if I had to rent a bus to fit them all in for a trip to the zoo or camping? Even better!
Yes, I am jealous, envious and a few other emotions mixed in but at the same time, I am also very happy for you. Those kids are a blessing and as far as I am concerned ( For whatever that is worth? Lol ) you are a rich man! Just like money, spend your time wisely.
Doing things as a family no longer seems to be the normal way of life? I was blessed by 2 sets of grandparents and 2 great grandmothers that I would see weekly and they all had a wonderful influence on my life. I'm not sure why I am rambling on here? Anyway, enjoy those kids and never forget the treasures they really are because if you do it right they will never forget you.

A lot of this came out of german war and into 20s and 30sm We were taught these how to's in scouts from men of ww2 and Korea as scout masters. Great stuff still use this today.
