- Here is a simple way to make your own inexpensive reflector oven for baking bread or other items when you are in the wilderness. Weighing about 3 oz., it is quite easily made from items you may have around your house or that can be purchased for less than $5 US. It is highly portable and reusable.

The Bannock Recipe is:
3 cups of All-purpose flour
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1 Packet of Butter Buds (Dried Butter Flakes)
1and 1/4 cups of water
Mix all dry ingredients together.
Divide into 3 equal parts and
Put each 3rd into a Ziploc bag.
Each Ziploc will then need about
4 oz. of water each for the dough.
Knead in bag until dough is ready
Take out and bake until golden brown
Enjoy!
Pops forgot the recipe.
1 cup flour
2 tbs powder milk
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs bacon grease ,Butter or olive oil ( you could substitute probably butter buds that you have in your recipe)
Optional I sometimes add raisins, dried cranberries and chopped walnuts or pecans I don't measure but I estimate maybe maybe about 1/8 cup of fruit and 1/16 cup of nuts.
Sounds delicious! Thanks for watching commenting and sharing the recipe!
As a retired head chef I'm still learning new things, many thanks
Maybe add some cinnamon and sugar to your recipe raisin bread
1/16 cup of nuts? That's about three nuts... Gotcha!
That was kind of cool. You actually baked bread with reflected heat in an open container. You didn't even have to create a box or pot with a cover. Awesome.
Thank you!
You have more ways to cook things on your channel than I've ever seen, and every time I turn around, RUclips is recommending you. One of us is very focused on cooking 😉 You always have great ideas for it! Edited to add: commercial solar ovens are ridiculously expensive!
Thank you for watching. I tried to come up with many ways to cook things so that whatever situation a person finds themselves in, they might be able to improvise something from the materials at hand.
@@WayPointSurvival you're doing an outstanding job!
Binder clips - man, whoever invented those things is GENIUS!
Indeed!
That's really cool .
This is the kind of thing I miss when age and arthritis creeps up on you reducing you to a backyard camper well done 😊
Thanks!
Beautiful ! And a great idea! Love the fact that all your stuff is done with the budget in mind , some of us don’t have 200.00 to put into cooking gear .
Thanks so much!
I actually bake bread all the time over a camp fire. But I use a cast iron pot and tripod with a chain! I would never have guessed this would work, but it works very good!
Thank you for watching!
I enjoy watching your videos thank you for not putting advertisements in place of content...
Thank you. I only promote products that I think are truly worthwhile or useful. Thank you for watching!
My mouth is watering and stomach is growling. I'm going to pan fry a batch. My wife is dead now but we used to make Bannock just because we liked it. Just my cat and me now. She likes a bite of bread now and then.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Thanks for watching the video and I'm glad you liked it!
I love your oven and love how you say a prayer before you eat god bless
Thank you for watching and God bless you too!
That's brilliant! I also use those clips to close up tarp shelters!! This channel is a blessing!#
Awesome! Thank you!
Reminds me of my days as a boy scout. 🇨🇦
Great! Thanks for watching.
Nice little project! The results looked great with the bread! Nice work as always James. God bless you brother!
Thank you, brother. And God bless you too!
Great idea and clearly explained 👍. Can't wait to try it out myself...
Thank you!
This looks terrific. I will make one or more. I like that the campfire is the source of reflective heat for cooking. Reflective cooking in the dark or low sunlight doesn't worry me. Reflective cooking using the sun when it's very intense can be really dangerous. About ten years ago I bought two "solar cookers" that shipped directly from an overseas producer. They were dish shaped, on a stand with a pedestal in the middle of the dish which held the cookpot. It took me hours to assemble each one. Where I live, the UV index in summer is 14-15. The cooker was so bright I had to wear sunglasses to cook. That should have warned me. Before long I caught my clothes on fire just standing next to it. I "closed up shop" securing its protective cover (I thought). A few days later the wind lifted the edge of its cover, exposing only a bit of the metal to the sun. The cover caught fire and this spread. Dogs warned me. I was barely able to put out the fire with my garden hose. That cooker was so badly charred that we scrapped it. The other resides in a shed and someday may see the light of day again when the sun is very very dim.
Wow! One definitely is to be careful with the heat of the sun! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Love the channel, all these DIY cooking utensils and tips, love the energy and enthusiasm too 👍
Pure genius. Sure beats expensive bulky stove you rarely use. I have seen people use foil for these, but your way is so much better. Impressive.
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
That's very Kool I have to try this while camping
What a really good idea 👍👍
fantastic idea. For me your best yet. I`ve made all sorts of stoves before but never thought of that.
Just an FYI, when searching for the "Large Paperclips", if you type in "Binder Clips" you'll get a more refined selection for those particular type of clip.
Good point!
Excellent brother, excellent demonstration! Looks like it worked great!
Thank you! It did and the bread was very tasty!

Most excellent work young man, keep it coming... Surviving with stuff out of the Dollar General is just as important as wilderness foraging skills. You know just like you did with the hobo survival skills, you might consider a series on stealth camping from the homeless.
Thank you so much for your help and videos, very helpful

I got hungry... looks delicious
It was very tasty. Thanks for watching!
Nice oven James. That bread turned out great. I purchased a reflector oven years ago. One of my favourite things to make is a large oatmeal muffin. I found that if you buy a muffin mix that is low fat, it’s a just add water. For your oven a small foil pan with some parchment paper “Might” work good. Only one way to find out 😂. Another item I want to make in the reflector oven is the coffee cup cakes that you make in the microwave. I’ve tried these in a small solar oven and they work good.
Thank you! I was wondering if I should put the bread on a small pan of some kind but I thought it might keep the heat from getting to the bottom of the bread efficiently. Those other ideas sound great! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
WayPoint Survival
You might be able to use a little parchment paper directly on the rack just to support the bread. I made a pizza once and I used a small stainless steel plate as a pizza pan. This did not work, the top was perfect and the bottom didn’t cook.
GREAT INFO Thanks.
