I have my VA card, it says vet on my drivers license and i have a Vet tag on my truck. We would rather you ask us to prove it, than assume, just because we know the number of scammers out there. Most all vets have proof that we are Vets

    I remember when I first saw her picture wearing dress blues. As a former Marine who went through Parris Island SC in July - September 71, I immediately noticed that her eagle, globe and anchor on her lapels were backwards. (anchors are inboard, she had them outboard) She had no idea how to dress a uniform. What a disgrace. Semper Fi - real Marines.

      Just sad. I think about my wife who served in the Marine Corps 10+ years. Who also served during Operations Desert Shield/ Storm, and was medically discharged shortly after the Gulf War. And that this real, and highly awarded female Marine. Literally, had to be forced to file a claim with the VA. Thank God she has a great job, and good health. And to read about this fake female Marine is just disgusting. God bless. Semper Fi!

      The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 was signed on June 3, 2013. The Act makes it a federal crime to fraudulently claim to be a recipient of certain military decorations or medals in order to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefits.

    Those people who use veterans to scam off of are absolute thieves. As a 100% disabled vet, this is upsetting, to say the least. These crimes take away from veterans disability groups who have proudly served veterans as far back as I can remember and are hurt every time one of those stolen valor criminals pops up. It's sad that even today, in the U. S. many Americans don't understand what our service members do and sacrifice daily to protect our Democracy day in and day out. I am grateful for today's service members as I am of the vets from my era. Thank you All! 🇺🇸❤

    My father was a combat medic for 30 years. Started as a buck private and retired at Major. I asked him about flag burning and, he said that his fight was for their right to express that way. He did 7 combat tours, I don't like stolen valor. Pray for my father, please.

      Yes they do, but she falsified records and also worked at a VA facility and knew how to otherwise alter information. That's part of the federal felony charges alongside the grand larceny/ fraud, she stole a lot of money too.

      It's not that easy. You have to have the DD214 record of military service, honorable discharge, go to exams and doctors appointments to even begin to qualify for VA disability benefits. She must have studied the system well to pull it off. Then she must have been able to fool the VA disability examiners with her acting skills.

      @@rwdchannel2901 VA Benefits are not just relegated to Honorable discharges, anything but Dishonorable will grant VA medical care and varying degrees of other benefits. (and even then with some exigent cases can still get services though limited, that is rare though.)
      But yes, she had to really have gone through a lot of very specific things to pull off the fraud.

    At first I thought it was a harsh sentence but when I heard she stole information from an actual cancer patient, made her friends pick up her dog’s turds, tie her shoes etc because she faked cancer not to mention her family and general public’s trust getting unnecessary donations and support I said let her rot in jail!

      I am loving that she was placed behind bars, I served 6 years in the Air Force and 20 years with my local sheriff's office, there are impersonators also in the law enforcement field which is also a crime. I hope she enjoys the prison cell she is living in!! She can then think of how she mislead all those people, and she will have to stand before God to give an account, I cannot see that day going well for her!!! I hope and pray that she finds Jesus Christ as her Savior and to forgive her of her sins!!!

    Why are people surprised this happens, if you live in the United States 🇺🇸 in a town that has a military 🪖 community you shouldn't be surprised 🤔.
    I'm in the south (carolina) we hear a story's like this every few weeks. Depending on the states the benefits can good that people will pose as military
    To take advantage. From a discount at a wallmart to buying a home 🏡.

    My father was in the army and he never talked about it just like so many others. Cavanaugh seem to talk about it as much as she could and maybe that should of been a red flag. It's a shame that out veterinarian don't get much and have to fight to get help but yet here is someone that was not in any military and was getting so much. The system needs a lot of work!

      My oldest brother will not talk about his service in Vietnam and I do not press him because I am a veteran as well. He just finally was declared 100% disabled due to his service, he is now 73 and my Hero!! This scumbag will not detract from any veteran's honorable service. She rates equal with the dog waste she asked others to pick up!!! I hope she enjoys the prison cell she is calling home now, and hope the government will take her home from her and give it to a needy military family! then lastly I hope she finds Jesus Christ as her Savior which will change her life!!!

      Most vets will not talk about their overseas wars to friends of family. But they do talk to their fellow veterans at reunions. I've been to a few 3rd Marine Division reunions----and they talk to their platoon and company mates. @@GM8101PHX

    We should have a special FBI team that goes nationwide, investigates cases of stolen valor and prosecute and jail the offenders. Right now as a Veteran if you say anything to them, they just get indignant, tell you where to stuff it and the local police won't do anything.

      You can’t. The stolen valor law got tossed out by the Supreme Court. So it is not against the law to lie, as such.

    and nobody will see the real issue here, we know that veterans dont get enough support from the government and someone was able to use that to develop a con. If the government actually supported veterans this kind of thing couldn't even exist.

      My medical records were over 6 inches thick, and they were still giving me the run around. It took a federal judge, reaming them a new arse-hole to fix lt. That was 50 years ago. I'm not sure if Federal Judges do automatic reviews anymore.

    I gave up on my local VFW once I realized most of the members weren’t even vets and that people were using the clubhouse to deal cocaine. It lost its charter, got it back, lost it again….. unless you are an alcoholic trying to get drunk as cheaply as possible, just go somewhere else. You’ll probably find more actual veterans at a Mission BBQ than you will your local VFW. It’s sad but true 😔

    Not a veteran here and for some reason (irony or sarcasm) I'm totally okay saying that. How hard is that. I didn't serve (tried, but an L5-S1 fusion kicked me out of the running) but I will definitely give any vet any help they would need on the spot. Never once did I ever think "Oh I'm going to lie and see what benefits I could get!". Even if I felt the urge there is something called the internet. She is beyond stupid and I hope she learned a lesson and can recover her life.

    Losing her job and reputation are the consequences of her actions, not a price she is paying for it. Consequences you experience as a result of your stupidity are completely separate to 'paying the price' - the price to society for the harms you have done.

    As a female veteran USN 86-91 disabled 100% and spouse of retired US NAVY officer 86-2011, I would spit on her! How dare she?? I wore the uniform and supported my husband's career because families serve. Rebuild her life? Go get psychological services in federal prison. It's hard enough being a female veteran to garner the same respect of our male counterparts. I hope you have lost everything because we true veterans EARNED NOT STOLE EVERY BENEFIT WE ARE ENTITLED TO!

    OK i am a bit annoyed here. I am a Vet, former Navy. I have suffered for years with a Crohn's like disorder and haven't been able to work for the past year. I am just now filling for disablility over it all. I have searched for help all around and haven't been able to find much but this lady can pretend to be a Vet and get $300,000 wtf? I struggle to pay the electric and live off food stamps smh.

    You know what the best part about all this is? She got arrested and jailed for faking cancer and having PTSD. After 70 months in Federal prison, she may very well have legitimate PTSD, but no-one is going to want to help her with it once she gets out. Oh, sweet, SWEET irony. :D

    70 months for posing as a veteran? Even with the financial fraud, it seems excessive. On the contrary, the sheriff in Clayton county got 1.5 years for abusing inmates during the last 20 years. We need the justice system, but sometimes it doesn't work well.
