Please don't stop your BG content. I just started playing and it was because I randomly came across your channel one day, so you have been my go to for tips, tricks, watches and most importantly lore. Don't let starfield put you off track, for the sake of DnD noobs like myself.
Good video! Because they were the default Dark Urge character I assumed they were renegades and my current DU has been on a dark path throughout act one. Now I’m changing it to what would be a more accurate role play and he’ll be a paragon, which will make the DU elements even more tragic.
buff the damage, fix the issue where those that are supposed to be in a line aren't and make it a bonus action rather than a full action or at least make it one attack action (as in a dragonborn fighter can swing a sword once then use their breath weapon once) maybe make it so you can use it more frequently than once every long rest too
I don't see any financial reason for BG3 to sponsor a video like this, so I feel like they're giving back to creators who they know helped support the game to be as successful as it did throughout early access. Either way, my appreciation for Larian just continues to grow with every action they take and every word out of Swen's mouth. Can't wait to see what's next in store fron them.
Nice! I didn't see too many vids about the Dragonborn race so it's nice to have such a great one. I didn't know they were so new to the world of Baldur's Gate. One thing I'd like though as a non-native speaker would be some subtitles or at least a note somewhere for all the different names(cities, characters, worlds...). Can't wait for the next lore video :)
I love these lore videos of yours. I was never really interested in Dragonborn, but Larian Studius made them sooooo cool, and pretty, I don't think I will be able to resist playing one. The scales are absolutely gorgeous.
Ooh, that tidbit about honouring the clan over the individual will help with me future Dragonborn Folk Hero character! I've got like 8 characters made now lol, most still in Act 1, one in Act 2, obviously my main completed the game, and another currently in Act 3. But I still have a couple more planned, a Dragonborn Folk Hero was one of them, and this video helped with my roleplay background for them!
Alot of characters! I just went and new gamed a bunch of different chromatic dragonborns. All aspects of both common and uncommon true dragons. Red, yellow, blue, orange, purple, green, white, black, grey, brown, teal and magenta. All a different class, though Draconic bloodline sorcerer fits best imo. You can double down on TWO dragon ancestries! Like for coloring one purple I choose blue since purple dragons breathe plasma, lightning is closest element to that, I also choose red flame eyes and had that unique dragonborn drac.bloodline pattern be blue with red to again indicate two distinct heritages 😆 bonus fact tidbit. Dragonborns do NOT have tails lore-canon wise, though Half-Dragons, Draconians, Dragonkin and Kobolds do. Makes Dragonborn stand out more, though in bg3/ tt its more loosely chosen some hidden heritage trait maybe 😉
Dragonborn!! One of my favorite races to play, I loved making lizards back in DOS2 and Larian definitely delivered with the character creation options here in BG3. Thanks for all the great BG3 content Wolf, SKAL 🍻
It's a small thing, but I like how the lizards in D:OS2 and the dragonborn in BG3 don't sound like chain smokers. They just have a normal speaking voice like any other race.
Hey Wolf, love the lore vid! Only problem is now I think it's Sunday... congratulations on getting the Larian sponsorship. Can't wait until I see the WolfhheartFPS equivalent of Naaber DLC!
Im appreciating all the effort Larian is making with the community. The covers of in game music they've sponsored have been awesome too. Coming from other games where the devs would get adversarial with content creators, this is yet again a nice change from the norm. Skal my dude!
So awesome Larian studios sponsored this vid!! And thank you for more insight on this race! Started a new bg3 playthrough as a dragonborn, took me so long in character creation😅
This is awesome, I don't know how I missed it when it dropped. I was just saying to a friend the other day that I was frustrated by how little I knew about being a dragonborn in my run, from what the game gives you. Will definitely play things a bit differently if/when I do another dragonborn run. And hah, now I'm lost in figuring out the whole "wait, Mystra DIED" thing.
I love your lore videos. As a D&D fan but I also think for newcomers alike, that lore is important since D&D is story driven. The mechanics wouldn't mean much unless we can progress though the story and have it make sense. Thank you Wolf, and thank you Larian!!!
Perfect timing Wolf, enjoying a steak while watching 😂 While I would prefer Larians official dragonborn improvements/ inclusions. Nexus mods have one in-progress for adding GEM dragonborns. Gizban added improved breath weapon. 1d10 etc equal to prof bonus. ALSO⚠️ Heres a list that truly would complete the dragonborn! 🔸️ Add the 5 GEM dragonborns from Fizbans treasury of Dragons. Would love to see Larians take on floaty gem bits and gem scakes these are known for and change to any color ofcourse 🔸️Add the respective 5 GEM dragon ancestry races to Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. Its so straightforward by adding those missing element types and slot them into the list and add gem patterns and scales as effects! 🔸️ Give dragonborns darkvision, improve their breath weapon like in Fizbans aka uses equal to profiency bonus ( lvl 1 - 5 = 2 ) 🔸️ Choose between 30ft/ 9.14m line and 15ft/ 4.57m cone by toggling the Breath weapon icon or have two separate ones 🔸️ From Xanathars book, add the feats for all the main races. In Dragonborns case: Dragonfear and Dragon Hide. The latter gives you 1d4 claw attack as action + based on strenght mod. Pitiful. It should be muliattack action with 2d6 forceach hand and a 1d6 bite bonus action 🔸️Add TONS of missing sub classes from the aforementioned books, even the mediocre Sword Coast guide book..: Psi Warrior, Ascendant Dragon, Phantom, Soul Knife, Shadow Sorcerer, Undead Pact, Undying Pact ( IF Larion improves it ), Grave Domain, Drake Warden ( specialized beast master ), Fey Wanderer, Improved/ Amternate Beast Master ( sky, land, sea spirit animals ) and much more! 🔸️ More dragonborn frills and spikes, especially more frills, spike and frill mohawks even, able to change draconic bloodline pattern color to ANY color +++++++
Love these lore videos. I've always found in daunting to get into D&D but Baldur's Gate 3 has been a good starting point for me. As someone who loved the Argonians from the Elder Scrolls games, but also tnends to play as an honourable mage... my first playthrough of BG3 is a Blue Dragonborn Storm Sorcerer. I think my next might be a Druid, so would love a lore video on the Druids/Shadow Druids I've heard mentioned briefly in the Let's Play series.
Awesome lore video man, so happy that BG3 released on PS5 can’t wait to play as a badass Dragon. Though I would’ve liked to know more about Ti Manther and know a bit more of DragonBorn culture.
Love the content wolf. I've always love the dragonborn race in forgotten realms but i think i like how they went about it in Dragonlance on the world of Krynn better with how they did the Draconians origin.
So is this series over now? Bummed if it is, it’s really been a help with getting into the lore of the Forgotten Realms. Been in a healthy diet of Baldur’s Gate 3, your lore videos, and listening to audiobooks of The Dark Elf Trilogy, with Icewind Dale up next! It’s been amazing and I’ve loved every second of it all!
Congrats on the Larian sponsorship! Your videos are class and race in character creation are what convinced me to buy the game, so this sponsorship is perfect!
Thanks. I knew nothing about the Dragonborn. I plan to do a Dragonborn sorcerer for my next playthrough as it seems to fit well. Good to know the lore, not such a different situation to the Githiyanki and the Mindflayers
It just occur to me that with all these hill/cloud giant potions in the game, there is no Giant enemy/NPCs in Baldur's gate 3. I've been reading , and man oh man those giants have history, and of course, power.
My first full playthrough was a Dragonborn Ranger/Rogue and I have to say while I loved the character, the race seemed VERY irrelevant. Only once (and it was another Dragonborn npc) was my race acknowledged at all during the full game, and as other commenters have said, the breath weapon was only useful in the first couple of levels, the majority of the game it would have been a wasted turn as everything else I had offered a better chance of higher damage. I had fun, but I hoped for a little more Race related dialogue, and I found nothing except one conversation. There were Dragonborn dialogue options, but I didn’t find they added anything to my playthrough or make me feel special or different in any way. Still would give the game a 99% score though! I finished act 3 before their major patch so can’t wait for gameplay #2!! Thanks Wolf great video as always
So much potential for larian studios to maybe even bring irl campaigns to life into the game, at least I’m hoping for that lol There’s SOOOOO much adventure that could be had for all of us.
The dragonborn and Githyanki have a lot in common. They are not from Toril, they spent thousands of years being slaves, fought for their freedom against overwhelming odds, became extremely militaristic after earning their freedom, and were oppressed by beings who ate their brains. Hey, it's not like dragons crack open skulls to take the brains out when they're eating unruly slaves.
Second here what others have said about the desire for your continued spoiler-free BG3 lore & content - which I have truly loved following. It is upsetting for us mac users that the macOS version has yet to full release, *September 6th initially targeted and no communication since that announcement - many of us doubt we get the game today* after playing BG3 early access all summer and following your videos daily. But since PC full launch in August I personally have been unable to watch the livestreams or any of your let's play BG3 videos, for fear of spoilers and wanting to wait until the macOS native release. And now, folks are onto starfield. I regret buying the game early access on GOG, because there is not support for GeForceNow either - which was also never communicated. Larian, please do not forget about mac users - many of us supported the game in early access too and are wondering what is going on.
Has Bahamut's Rite of Rebirth been mentioned in anything canon after the spellplague? I can't seem to find out if the world-builders just wanted to forget about it or if it could still come into use. I quite like it myself! :-)
Well there's actually a second reason as to why that is, and I'm a little shocked it wasn't brought up in the video. Since Abeir was in a pocket dimension its connection to the deities of the Forgotten Realms was severed. So for a majority of their existence the prayers of all the Dragonborn went unheard and unfulfilled. Now that they know of them most Dragonborn are quite wary of the gods. Misunderstanding their silence as a betrayal.
I’m not sure where else to post this, so I guess here is as good a place as any I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts of my Tav’s backstory, as he is a Golden Dragonborn! I don’t know enough about the lore and geopolitical landscape of BG3/Faerun to establish many details, but this is kind of the base I wanted to go with; I was very inspired by Vinland saga, as well as a sprinkle of Berserk Anyways, Tav is the nickname given to a yet unnamed Golden Dragonborn He grew up in a village near Tymanthur (idk how you spell it) and lived his very early years in peace with his father. However, at a very young age his village was attacked by raiders and he was burned by their fires. Because of his resistance to it, he wasn’t very hurt, though it gave his golden scales a distinguishing heat-tempered look. He was sold into slavery and eventually bought by a mercenary group. These mercenaries taught him how to fight and survive, but they kept him on a short leash. He was often in chains and treated horribly, only ever being let loose on their enemies who were unused to a large shiny dragon man brutalizing their forces. One day, however, he managed to escape. Again, I haven’t fleshed out many of these details yet as I am simply too new to the lore of this universe. Anyway, he escaped and found himself on a farm. Instead of enslaving him, the farm owners offered him an opportunity to make an honest living as a farmhand. He didn’t know much at this point in his life other than war, but after a time he began to know peace again. He found people who cared for him and he was able to grow strong in heart and soul, hoping to “Plant more crops than he had burned. Build more houses than he had destroyed.” He didn’t swear an oath of non-violence, but he did find himself hoping that his life could continue like this forever. But one is often confronted with their past on the road to avoiding it. After a year or a few, the very same mercenary group that had enslaved him had come to the farm. They raided and pillaged it and the nearby farms and villages; Although this was not in search of Tav. In fact, they had no idea he was even there. It was simply a horrific coincidence. Or, perhaps, an act of the gods… When he became surrounded by raiders, he felt something call to him. A call to avenge those whom had suffered. To repay evil with fire and fury. He wasn’t sure what called to him, or even if it was real. Nevertheless, he answered. In that moment, he found his body flooded with newfound strength; Newfound purpose. And old rage. As a mercenary swings at him, Tav catches the man’s wrist and shatters his bones in his grip. The rest of that night was a hazy blur of fire and blood. Come morning, he would be the only being left alive on the farm. They had slaughtered everyone, and so he slaughtered them in kind. After gathering himself, he left the farm in search of answers of this newfound calling. He didn’t get to grow up with his father enough to learn much of anything about religion, races or even cultures, including his own. Eventually he found himself at a Paladin order. There, he trained and honed his skills with a blade. He created new bonds with his brothers and sisters in arms. When the day came, he swore his oath. His Oath of Vengeance. His oath that he will root out the wicked roots of this world with his inferno of rage. His oath that he will give no quarter to those he deems unable, or yet unworthy, of repentance. His oath to burn evil as they had burned him. His oath to become the Flame of Vengeance. So, that’s all i got so far! It’s a little derivative and doesn’t do much to actually showcase much of his personality, goals or beliefs But, I mostly wanted to write this in the hopes of getting some insight. Namely, how likely it is that any of this could actually happen. As I’ve stated probably too many times by now, I just don’t know much about this world. And while I still am learning, I still want to have a solid baseline for my character as I’m going through this game. My favorite part of games is the story, and as someone who hopes to become a writer someday, I can’t help but want to inject story and purpose into every little thing. I know that knowing whether or not its possible that a Gold Dragonborn could be enslaved by a mercenary group doesn’t really have to change how I play; It’s still nice to have insight on things like these!
If you’re doing these kinds of videos in the future I would suggest to show these “foreign” names (for places, gods, etc) on screen while you’re saying them… as someone who had never heard of them before I wouldn’t even be able to google most of them now after watching the video simply because I have no idea how they’re spelled.
I don't know much about post 3rd Ed Faerun so this was highly informative for me. Still, this does raise a bunch of other questions for me, especially regarding a Dark Urge Dragonborn. *SPOILERS* I'm not far enough in the Dark Urge storyline, but is it explained just how a Dragonborn can be a Bhaalspawn? The Dragonborn did not even exist in Faerun/Toril back during the events of the Time of Troubles, when Bhaal set in motion the events that led to the creation/spawning of the Bhaalspawn, so how can it be that one can be a Bhaalspawn?
I would take a guess and say that Larian valued player agency over sticking true to the lore for that particular case. Better to let players play the dark urge as all of the races, rather than limit them.
For anyone who feels that the Dragonborn feel a little lack luster, someone on nexus made a really good fizbans mod that buffed the damage die, added extra racial features and included gem Dragonborn.
I really love the look of the Dragonborn... but when I tried playing one they just didn't feel very impactful. I mean, the breath weapon is fun in theory, but ranged classes are rarely going to be in a situation to use it and melee classes are going to have better options VERY early on.... and then since it doesn't scale, it goes from highly situational to practically useless pretty quick. And then what else do they get? A single element resistence? Which tieflings get the most common one of (along with several other things) at level 1? I get that they're following D&D precedent, and DB are highly underpowered there as well.... but it sucks to have such a conceptually cool race feel like such a pain in the ass to take cause it's underperforms so badly. It's a bummer. It makes such a thematically cool race just feel so underwhelming. The least they could have done was give them dark vision or some bonus proficiencies or SOMETHING.
The main issue for me was that you cannot feel the character in the same way. Their face doesn't convey emotions well, so it's chart to put yourself in a character. Also, it would be fine if there were more reactions, but there wasn't, as if it was just a human for the most time.
Hey! Loved the video, however I have a small ask: could you possibly consider not using AI-generated artwork for thumbnails/art in the video? That whole system is very predatory for human artists and is trained on copyrighted work without express permission from people on whose works it is trained, and until it becomes in any way improved it’s very unethical as a system. I think it might be much safer and probably easier just using official WotC dragonborn artworks, as there are plenty of those, or asking artists of unofficial artworks for permission, and avoiding using generated pieces. I understand completely if you didn’t even realize some of those were generated, ai “art” has flooded google searches and not everyone can distinguish generated “art” from real pieces. Video itself was great, though!
that god doomed the dragonborn race they could not return to their home planet and trapped them their causeing a war with the natives of land that belong to them good job god you only made it worse for them not better lol

Larian needs to buff the Dragon's Breath by having it scale with each level.
Maybe not each level, but at least as much as cantrips do.
Yep, They need to buff it.
Nexus mods have not only one for better dragon breath but GEM dragons aswell
Didn't they buff the Dragon breath in the last patch? To scale with level. I could have swore I saw that in the patch notes.
buff the damage, fix the issue where those that are supposed to be in a line aren't and make it a bonus action rather than a full action
or at least make it one attack action (as in a dragonborn fighter can swing a sword once then use their breath weapon once)
maybe make it so you can use it more frequently than once every long rest too
As someone who rolled a Dragonborn Paladin on my BGIII playthrough, this was informative background information to know!
So glad to gather with you all around the campfire yet again.

There were Dragonborn dialogue options, but I didn’t find they added anything to my playthrough or make me feel special or different in any way. Still would give the game a 99% score though! I finished act 3 before their major patch so can’t wait for gameplay #2!! Thanks Wolf great video as always
So much potential for larian studios to maybe even bring irl campaigns to life into the game, at least I’m hoping for that lol
There’s SOOOOO much adventure that could be had for all of us.
Yes, spread the story of the beautiful dragons.
I've already made 10 of them in this game.
Thank you for another amazing video Wolf! ❤
thank you Gwen
I love them one of my fav races :D
The dragonborn and Githyanki have a lot in common. They are not from Toril, they spent thousands of years being slaves, fought for their freedom against overwhelming odds, became extremely militaristic after earning their freedom, and were oppressed by beings who ate their brains.
Hey, it's not like dragons crack open skulls to take the brains out when they're eating unruly slaves.
Congrats on the Larian-sponsored video! That's awesome! Also, thanks for the history lesson! :)
thanks!!
I've heard this story before, and you did a great job telling it!
Thanks!
I love the dragonborn, I would love it if they used the fizban's version in bg3
Would be cool to give dragonborn dark vision
Dragonborn are such fantastic characters
Please do a video on the Githyanki.
Tchk! The Githyanki do not need such pity.
Though I am sure a video will come if Vlaakith wills it, to the skies!
I wonder how did a dragonborn inherit the Bhaal blood, when the Bhaalspawn event preceded their arrival to Toril.
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for watching Harry
Has Bahamut's Rite of Rebirth been mentioned in anything canon after the spellplague? I can't seem to find out if the world-builders just wanted to forget about it or if it could still come into use. I quite like it myself! :-)
Love the lore, I was wondering if Bahamut got some leeway with the Dragonborn today but perhaps not, independence as a species is probably better
@@horrorfan117 oh that is crucial for any faith
DRAGONBORN VID woooooot :D
This is what I’m talking about!
My favorite race, but we know so little about it. It appeared in 4th edition ?
I’m not sure where else to post this, so I guess here is as good a place as any
I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts of my Tav’s backstory, as he is a Golden Dragonborn!
I don’t know enough about the lore and geopolitical landscape of BG3/Faerun to establish many details, but this is kind of the base I wanted to go with;
I was very inspired by Vinland saga, as well as a sprinkle of Berserk
Anyways, Tav is the nickname given to a yet unnamed Golden Dragonborn
He grew up in a village near Tymanthur (idk how you spell it) and lived his very early years in peace with his father. Or, perhaps, an act of the gods…
When he became surrounded by raiders, he felt something call to him.
It’s a little derivative and doesn’t do much to actually showcase much of his personality, goals or beliefs
But, I mostly wanted to write this in the hopes of getting some insight. I know that knowing whether or not its possible that a Gold Dragonborn could be enslaved by a mercenary group doesn’t really have to change how I play; It’s still nice to have insight on things like these!
i'd like to see how being a dragonborn changes interactions in bg3
so cool that Larian sponsored
No mention of the 3.5e dragonborn (who were never explicitly retconned out) or Laerakond?
Too much information isn't always a good thing for a video!
I really enjoyed this video! Very much like Nerd of the Rings
Thanks for watching
The Dark Urge dragonborn: Bhaal boned a dragon
My favorite race
That thumbnail looks like astarion is pretending to be MJ on the spider man 2 poster
Someone was so brave to fu*k the dragon. The end.
If you’re doing these kinds of videos in the future I would suggest to show these “foreign” names (for places, gods, etc) on screen while you’re saying them… as someone who had never heard of them before I wouldn’t even be able to google most of them now after watching the video simply because I have no idea how they’re spelled.
So, do the normal draconic coloring in terms of evil or good not apply to them? Or is that universal?
I don't know much about post 3rd Ed Faerun so this was highly informative for me. Still, this does raise a bunch of other questions for me, especially regarding a Dark Urge Dragonborn. *SPOILERS*
I'm not far enough in the Dark Urge storyline, but is it explained just how a Dragonborn can be a Bhaalspawn? The Dragonborn did not even exist in Faerun/Toril back during the events of the Time of Troubles, when Bhaal set in motion the events that led to the creation/spawning of the Bhaalspawn, so how can it be that one can be a Bhaalspawn?
I would take a guess and say that Larian valued player agency over sticking true to the lore for that particular case. Better to let players play the dark urge as all of the races, rather than limit them.
what creature did dragonborn evolve from
Thing I would most love to see added to the game is the other race most impacted by all the world swapping: tabaxi!!!!
My next run is gonna be dragonborne. I'm finally in act 3....soooo, I have about 40hrs left 😅
For anyone who feels that the Dragonborn feel a little lack luster, someone on nexus made a really good fizbans mod that buffed the damage die, added extra racial features and included gem Dragonborn.
Would you do a lp with minthara in party and to romance?
I'm doing a stream series where I romanced her and will have her in my party soon
👍
Someone really needs to put Shar in her place.......
and give them Darkvision
lizard lore
Video itself was great, though!
so a dragon didnt have sex with a person?
nope lol
My biggest complaint is the voice selections none of them sound quite right for a dragon person
PS5 LAUNCH DAY!!
So apparently Swen "fixed" the "bug" that made Gale behave like a sex offender?
.....what?
So Dragonborn are Turians...
I have just been validated on my choice, thanks.
that god doomed the dragonborn race they could not return to their home planet and trapped them their causeing a war with the natives of land that belong to them good job god you only made it worse for them not better lol
I may just be bitter about 4th edition, but dragonborn still don't exist in my headcanon.
Dragonborns need better voices. Them sounding like a normal human is ridiculous
