Hey @WolffheartFPS, in your video a couple days ago you mention that *cough* antagonist So I got a question when you were mentioning, or introducing (*Spoiler Alert*) Orin you mentioned BG 1 & 2? Bhaal, clearly she’s somehow related to murder, either inspired by bhaal, something… Did I misunderstand when you said if you’re going through and playing BG1 / 2 you shouldn’t just kill Orin you should find more about her? What does that mean? She’s not in the first 2 is she? I don’t remember her at all lol, granted it’s been a year or so, but I’ve put a good amount of hours into the two games 😅
@@evandowel1975 I think you did misunderstand. He was saying that if you run across her then don't kill her immediately because you might miss out on a big portion of interesting story involving her in BG3. I don't believe he meant the first two games. I can totally see that as well, seeing that she has the ability to shape-shift and potentially replace one of the members in your camp without you even realizing. It could create tension in your camp and perhaps you have to figure it out. Just killing her and moving on with the story, you miss out on potential story beats and interesting plot development through some of her missions.
@@evandowel1975 She's not in the first two, but her story IMO has the best chance of being connected to the first two games. So I'd say if you want to see more on Bhaal etc keep Orin alive as long as possible

Descent Into Avernus was an amazing campaign. I played a Halfling Swashbuckler and, thanks to my allies and a 34 Diplomacy roll, RP'd Zariel's salvation. It was so awesome!
@@diegoundreiner6392 Entirely possible given how many sources of bonuses you can stack. I cannot remember what level the adventure capped out at, but at a conservative +4 Proficiency Bonus, you can achieve CHA 5 + PROF 4 + EXPERT 4 + GUIDANCE d4 relatively easily for a bonus of 13+d4 to a d20 roll, may well get Advantage depending on your deeds and whether you brought Lulu and returned her memories, along with Halfling Luck / Luck feat to reroll a nat 1, and force another reroll. And I'm pretty sure there are other bonuses sources.

I’m 12 videos deep and these videos have made my first playthrough exponentially more engaging, exciting, and enjoyable. I’ve noticed that a few of my choices in game have changed due to being more “informed” of the history and lore of the forgotten realms. I’m really looking forward to discovering more in BG3 and learning more from these videos. Thanks for putting all of this together Wolfheart. Thanks for making what seemed overwhelming and daunting easier to digest. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into these video and it does not go unnoticed.
This was great. I always love hearing about Zariel and the lore surrounding her. And the fact that Karlach is directly tied to Zariel and Avernus makes me even more excited to meet her.
My D&D group played Descent into Averness about a year ago. Our DM was bewildered throughout much of it, as we kept fighting in the scenarios where we could talk, and trying to talk when we should have fought. Then we bypassed a huge chunk of the ending by making an unexpected decision. I am being as vague as possible as to not giving spoilers.
I am coming in completely fresh to this world of BG and D&D so all of this was completely new to me. What a cool story! You explained it very well and I'm grateful to have this background knowledge going in to the game. I'll definitely check out your other lore videos!!
Thank you for making this information palpable! Bumped into other channels and bless them, but it was akin to downing melatonin. New sub here. Keep up the good work and thank for making lore easier to understand. D&D is definitely dense
The canon ending for descent into avernus can be seen in the HQ infernal tides, also there is a HQ after that: Mindbreaker that is a direct prelude to BG3
I thought I knew the basics of this story, but I'm really glad I listened bc I didn't know what a Hellrider was and it gives a lot of context to Karlach's character.
Thank you for this background lore, I absolutely cannot wait for BG3! I am super pleased that I found Wolfheart's channel, your videos are AMAZING! I really hope this game makes your channel take off even more, you deserve it! What race/class is everyone planning on being for their first playthrough?
Since the first video you made of this series was based on "History of the Dead Three", one of the lore books from the old games, I'd like to recommend checking out "History of the Sisters of Light and Darkness". I personally consider it just as relevant to BG3, as it is about Selune, Shar, the Shadevari and the Shadowstar. Lastly, "History of the Chosen of Mystra" may be relevant for Gale, but probably far less interesting that the other two books.
Running Descent into Avernus was an amazingly fun module to run for my group of six players, as I tried my best to shaken their overly enthusiastic and optimistic characters' resolve's. Considering they got a Nat 20 to redeem zariel, i think the ending was pure bliss in terms of epicness and excitement. Whenever i play baldurs gate 3, i always point out to my friend that i play with (who was one of the players) any references or connection between the game and the tabletop game. Really exciting and makes me fanboy to see anything from the book in animated and acted glory.
I’ve been running DiA for a few years now for my two friends…we are finally closing in on the finale, and all planning to play BG3 together once we’re finished with the campaign. SO STOKED!!!!
Im sure every bit of additional information or lore will go a long ways to help the characters in BG three. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
I am really hoping we get to see Zariel, she is such an interesting character(even tho I don't want to fight her, as I figure level 12 adventurers have no chance in hell - hah-).
I played all the way through DiA as a Githzerai Artificer; a refugee from the endless wars of the Planes who landed in Baldurs Gate. That was only to continue to fall with his companions through Elturel's burning passage into the Hells. For our part we did what we could to find redemption for Zariel (largely through her companion Lulu) and for the return of Elturel to its rightful home in the Prime Material, while deftly attempting to avoid the manipulations of the major Devils and powers which fight over the realm of Avernus. Quite an enjoyable campaign, if the DM is prepared for some light sandbox/exploration elements which can be difficult to balance. It took us playing 1x/week about 6 months to complete, incl. holiday breaks & life interruptions.
Had a great time down in Avernus, and we didn't even hit all that could be done. DM enjoyed the characters so much, they created their own follow-up including the higher leveled, kingdom-recognized heroes. Was nice power fantasy with the DM taking particular care to frequently sprinkle in direct recognition of past events and achievements, even from powerful evil forces who no longer underestimated the party.
This probably one of the more interesting lore videos I've seen! I did not know that Avernus had a new ruler, and even before the events of the Bhaalspawn Saga depicted in the classic Baldur's Gate titles, at that. Also, funny ad you did there at the beginning! 😄
this is why I plan my first playthrough to have Karlach as compaion/play her myself, this module is really cool and I really wonder how much Larion portray that blood war and my love Zariel.
They say in Denmark, that the black plastic trays used by Factor can't be recycled. It has to do with the black colour. The sorting machines cannot "see" the black plastic and recognize it as such. It gets burned instead of recycled. If Factor used brown, yellow or any other colour trays, they could be recycled.
Zariel's story? I wonder if we can encounter her directly in BG3 or when? Thinking more broadly about it, if Larian Studio's does this smoothly they could dash out content for BG3 *for the next TWO DECADES EA~SY.* 😎👌 With so much DLC-Expansions that introduce places or whole planes of existence that would be an absolute banger to explore! Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Candlekeep, the Feywield, the Shadowfell and so much more. If the passions remains like what Skyrim modders do to this day, BG3 will be the King of our age.
@@Optimusj1975 I'm sure the game will be insanely huge if one does a _"100%"_ playthrough will all kinds of routes & dialogues. So it made me a bit sad to hear it is only up to lvl.12 for now. That made it feel tinier than my lvl.20 hopes. 😉 But still cudos for Larian to balance that. I always hear DM's joking on channels that it is so hard to keep battles engaging & challenging when your players reach the two-digits and approach lvl.20. Cause then they just can do so much. But yeah I do hope Larian tackles this and masters it up to lvl.20 with future expansions.
With Gale's origin story, I've convinced myself in the coming years we will get a Waterdeep and Undermountain DLC... My fifteen years old self will rejoice.
They said you can chose Zariel as a Warlock patron. They also said you can interact somehow with your patron, so at least we have that. The inportante question is: can I make her my love interest? I love her! Larian, pleeeease!!
Good video. The classic FR view is that devils want to corrupt reality, demons want to destroy it. Either one ultimately ends in death and destruction, just how you get there and how it is destroyed. Tieflings have evil in their blood, as evil exists. Individual tieflings can overcome their blood to be normal people. Which is a new FR take on it, but it is fair IMO. That is why I would love to have an character that has the higher planes in their blood or aasimars. BG3 is the greatest game of the decade, maybe longer. It is just a bit dark. (Which is fun) Oathbreakers, some new Dark Urge, tieflings everywhere. Would be kool to balance it out with angels, aasimars, and an angel on your shoulder pushing you to do good. I play a "goody" campaign as I find it more challenging to "do the right thing" and such. I am sure they will add to content to BG3 in the future. That would be my request.
Thanks for doing these kind of videos. For people like me that dont know anything about dungeons and dragons or Baldurs Gate lore, these videos are very helpful.
I’d like to play a Tiefling refugee that becomes an Oath of Vengeance Paladin, swearing to kill the fiends that basically ruined his life, think it’d be an interesting character and would be a cool contrast
really enjoying your content - I'm new to Baldur's and D&D tbh - and I feel like I get a lot of info on what to expect without getting info that spoils the future adventure for me - so very much appreciated!
Descent into Avernus is a very cool Magic the Gathering card. it gives everyone treasures and then deals damage to them equal to counters on it and counters go up each turn. They also made Zariel a planeswalker in the same set. Asmodeus the Archfiend is also a card in the set. legendary creature Devil God. Duke Ulder Ravengard is also a legendary creature card.
We also have 2 other pieces of confirmed lore: the Grand Duke survived and the campanion was freed. IIRC that second point could only be accomplished by breaking the contract or breaking the planetar out with Zariel's sword. Hopefully we can get our hands on that Sword :)
Depends which of those options came to pass and how. By the rules of the module iirc if the sword is used to break out the planetar by anything other than a very high level cleric or paladin, the sword is destroyed.
I also think one of the diplomatic options is to hand over the sword in exchange for the city, which again leads to it's destruction. I wouldn't hold out hope that it is still around given Zariel is both alive and not redeemed
Always happy to see new video from your lore series, it's very well done and interesting to watch. Very interested in the tiefling race, hope you'll do video on them some day.
btw, "ths song of Elturel" will show up during BG3 playthrough, datamined to confirm I believe. That is one sad and sound music, I loved it the first time I heard it from that tarven.
I want to hear about other peoples characters from Descent into Avernus... pls reply! Mine ended up being a character that joined the party after they were already in hell, so I made an Artificer Harengon that used to work for Mad Maggie, and specialized in using and repairing war machines. Perfect campaign for an artificer; having expertise in land vehicles for that game was awesome.
Also, the cannon story for Descent, according to the dnd comics, has Minsc and the heroes of Baldur’s Gate going to Avernus and releasing the souls of Elturel.
@@zomenis no, actually. He is not petrified. When he gets de-petrified, the city makes a sculpture of him to replace that petrified version because it was a tourist attraction or something.
@@neurolancer81 there's a note in BG3 about the statue "going missing", which is a clear indication that no such statue replaced him, the people of the city simply weren't aware that the statue was Minsc himself.
I loved running that campaign in my d&d group. I think playing a lawful paladin is a must for bg3 knowing we’re likely going to the month later if hell. I bet we end up redeeming Zareil.
Not sure what is being referred to as the ending. But it doesn't mention what they seem to be adapting from the comic book. In which Aubree succeeds in pleading to Zariel, ruler of Avernus, to return Elturel.
If my descent into Avernus campaign is anything to go by there’s a war raging between Bel and Gargauth for the control of Avernus while the Demon lords start to take advantage of the chaos.
As some who watched the adventures of Vox Machina years ago on critical role, it would be so amazing if we could explore Avernus in BG3 and potentially meet Arkhan the Cruel. It almost seems possible.. if not on the main campaign maybe dlc one day if the lvl cap increases
Based on the loot Zevlar gives you (or that you can steal if you let Aradin knock him out 😅), I have to wonder if Zevlar and Aradin's interaction is a nod to the Hellriders closing the gate behind themselves.😮 If so, it's a cool little reference that I wouldn't have caught without this video. Nice work.
Very cool and informative vid, Wolf. I've never played an official D&D adventure so just about all my lore knowledge comes from books, which tend to take place at different moments in history so videos like this are a huge help.
Love this lore back story leading up to the game. I don’t know a lot of the dnd lore and this helps. Really enjoyed your lore on Drizzt and plan to make a Drow Warlock and play him as ‘good’ as possible.
Thanks for the ad recommendation "Factor" @wolfheartfps. I did the math and if I were to buy groceries and compare the 2, I would pay between 10 - 20$ more. However, I won't have to deal with cleaning and meal prepping. AND it can always be healthy for my health goals. Honestly, thanks. There is a lot of value there.
My DnD group ran Descent into Avernus about 3 years ago. 3 of my players decided to rule Avernus in Zariel's place lol. So excited to note the references in BG3
My concern is being funneled. Usually I ignore quests for a long period of time as I was demand explore. If I do quests I usually don’t follow a specific order.
Do more module recaps. For someone who doesn’t know one person who plays DnD I would find this interesting. Not sure it anyone else would. Growing up I didn’t have any friends who played DnD, but I found it interesting since I read books like DragonLance and LOTR and played SSI gold box and DL games. My older brother played DnD and I would read his modules as they were books.
Larian should let all that have played early access have full access to character creation. Can't go into the game, but could play around with the new stuff and be ready August 3rd.
I have watched your descent into avernus and liked it a lot. As for Zariel being still arch devil, its confirmed as even devils in tutorial section on nautiloid invole her name….
Another great video! I was thinking of bringing this module up to my DM as something we could do, especially since a few in our D&D group (including him) plan to play BG3 in cooperative mode.
Kind of weird that they would go with Zariel unredeemed? There was a lot of various endings in the module, but a lot of it seemed to really focus on the redemption angle, with the sword and Lulu and all that. I'm surprised they'd leave it the status quo , or not vague enough to at least be several module as-written endings.
@@DreamersOfReality Could be possible. I like the idea if you choose her as your patron you can try to redeem her. probably feel weird as a warlock but could be a cool mini storyline if you have a warlock with her as a patron in the party.
OMG i finally understand why so many tieflings were fleeing, and what they meant when they said city descended into avernus, wasn't expecting it to be literal though! also, quite sad for Zariel, kinda reminds me of (bg3 spoilers ahead) Dame Aylin, she did get on the more radical side after her imprisonment and it's argued she breaks her oath after killing Lorroakan, and wouldn't see it beyond her to pull off a similar stunt thinking she was doing good, get betrayed and then choosing the lesser evil 😢
Thanks for this, I haven't gotten a chance to play this adventure yet and I'm not sure if I will. My tabletop group is currently in the middle of a long homebrew campaign. Perhaps I'll recommend this one next.

They said you can chose Zariel as a Warlock patron. They also said you can interact somehow with your patron, so at least we have that. The inportante question is: can I make her my love interest? I love her! Larian, pleeeease!!
this campfire setting is awesome. love the vibe
I’ve been running DiA as a DM and it’s been a blast to pick up on all the connections.
yea as someone who narrated the adventure I agree! Love to see lore tid bits in games from previous D&D things that we experienced.
Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for doing these kind of videos.
For people like me that dont know anything about dungeons and dragons or Baldurs Gate lore, these videos are very helpful.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching
I’d like to play a Tiefling refugee that becomes an Oath of Vengeance Paladin, swearing to kill the fiends that basically ruined his life, think it’d be an interesting character and would be a cool contrast
for someone who never played a bg game before this vid was rly helpful, still thinking on what class to play, so many classes to pick from.
really enjoying your content - I'm new to Baldur's and D&D tbh - and I feel like I get a lot of info on what to expect without getting info that spoils the future adventure for me - so very much appreciated!
Thanks a lot!!!
Descent was fucking lovely, conquest paladin as soldier in the blood war was a interesting run
I love Descent into Avernus D&D Campaign.
P.S. Joe Manganiello's Arkhan The Cruel is loitering in Avernus
Beautifully done video, thank you. The sound effects and music really helped immersion.
thanks chris
Descent into Avernus is a very cool Magic the Gathering card. it gives everyone treasures and then deals damage to them equal to counters on it and counters go up each turn. They also made Zariel a planeswalker in the same set. Asmodeus the Archfiend is also a card in the set. legendary creature Devil God. Duke Ulder Ravengard is also a legendary creature card.
Thanks for all the great content. I love what you do.
Cheers thanks!
Keep up the amazing vids bud. makes the weeks not seem so long
Always happy to see new video from your lore series, it's very well done and interesting to watch. Very interested in the tiefling race, hope you'll do video on them some day.
btw, "ths song of Elturel" will show up during BG3 playthrough, datamined to confirm I believe. That is one sad and sound music, I loved it the first time I heard it from that tarven.
Cool yea it should be in the Elfsong Tavern if that data mine is correct
Just watched your read-through videos of this module yesterday; what good timing!
These are great. Definitely feel that they are getting me ready for BG3 launch!!
Also, the cannon story for Descent, according to the dnd comics, has Minsc and the heroes of Baldur’s Gate going to Avernus and releasing the souls of Elturel.
That isn't actually canon though, Minsc should still be petrified during the events of Descent
@@zomenis I am sorry yes, the statue is missing. My players made a facsimile statue in my game because they took over the city administration.
Thanks!
🙏 🙏 🙏 triple thanks to you Brian
Arkhan would be EPIC!!
Based on the loot Zevlar gives you (or that you can steal if you let Aradin knock him out 😅), I have to wonder if Zevlar and Aradin's interaction is a nod to the Hellriders closing the gate behind themselves.😮
If so, it's a cool little reference that I wouldn't have caught without this video. Nice work.
I’m ready for loreheads to dive into FR stuff more because there is some genuinely cool stuff in the history of the world.
Wolf, thanks for another great lore video!!! Your lore videos bring more depth to BG3!
Thanks for all the comments!
Very cool and informative vid, Wolf. I've never played an official D&D adventure so just about all my lore knowledge comes from books, which tend to take place at different moments in history so videos like this are a huge help.
Hope you're healing well !
Appreciate it
I am playing in a DiA campaign right now. We just got into Baldur’s Gate! I’m so hyped
Awesome! You got a hell of an adventure ahead of you
Love this lore back story leading up to the game. I don’t know a lot of the dnd lore and this helps. Really enjoyed your lore on Drizzt and plan to make a Drow Warlock and play him as ‘good’ as possible.
The ad read at the beginning made it seem like secretly you’ve never had food before 😂
Can't wait for this video, great birthday gift form me :)
Me too, happy Birthday to you :D
@@Musubi9092 happy birthday to you
We need more of this thank you
Thanks for the ad recommendation "Factor" @wolfheartfps.
So excited to note the references in BG3
that's bad ass lol
I will definitely need like at least three days to finish character creation...😂It would be a mercy!
@@WynneL lol. Right. They giving me the game a month early and I'm still whining. Lol.
I was a player in DIA so this is really cool.
know i'm a bit behind, just watched final Panel from Hell - spotted you in the crowd @WolfheartFPS, soo jealous you got to see it live
Heh! Yeah, I spotted him, and was all, "Yay!"
That is far more interesting than I anticipated. Excellent video!
Thanks Michael!
Really enjoyed this, thanks!
I’m just happy we got College of Swords!
dude love those lore videoss keep them coming
🙏
I have watched your descent into avernus and liked it a lot. As for Zariel being still arch devil, its confirmed as even devils in tutorial section on nautiloid invole her name….
I’m watching through every one of your sponsorships. You deserve every penny.
“I don’t even know how to say any of these” LOL
Thanks for making this.
thanks for watching!
Perfect! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I hope my comment before inspired you to make this video!
Thanks for watching!
tanar'ri winning the Blood War wouldn't be the end, it means everything will be like the Abyss
Another great video! I was thinking of bringing this module up to my DM as something we could do, especially since a few in our D&D group (including him) plan to play BG3 in cooperative mode.
Thanks!!
Hey Wolf, really enjoying your videos and I appreciate the effort you put into them. Looking forward to more lore videos. Thank you man!
I didnt even know you had lore videos!! I have so much content ahead of me lol
Thank you, Wolfheart!
great video learned alot, been having lore vids on repeat lately lmao
Cheers Thanks!
They might have wanted to give the player (of BG3) an opportunity to participate in Zariel's redemption?
Just an idea
@@DreamersOfReality Could be possible. I like the idea if you choose her as your patron you can try to redeem her. probably feel weird as a warlock but could be a cool mini storyline if you have a warlock with her as a patron in the party.
Just listened to your full narrated story of it it was great
Interesting to hear of this lol, in one of my D&D campaigns we just barely escaped The Descent ^^;
I played the adventure! (Redeemed Zariel) I want to bring my PC to life for BG3.
I talked to a few people that are treating BG3 as a continuation of their run in Descent. Pretty cool!
Ah, time to re-read my Descent into Avernus campaign book ^^
OMG i finally understand why so many tieflings were fleeing, and what they meant when they said city descended into avernus, wasn't expecting it to be literal though! also, quite sad for Zariel, kinda reminds me of (bg3 spoilers ahead)
Dame Aylin, she did get on the more radical side after her imprisonment and it's argued she breaks her oath after killing Lorroakan, and wouldn't see it beyond her to pull off a similar stunt thinking she was doing good, get betrayed and then choosing the lesser evil 😢
Thanks for this, I haven't gotten a chance to play this adventure yet and I'm not sure if I will. My tabletop group is currently in the middle of a long homebrew campaign. Perhaps I'll recommend this one next.
