i recently, some weeks before this video discovered your channel ed and i really like it. I been playing DND video games for awhile now, and just started to be a gamemaster in my own campain. And really like the vidoes you do as it gives insight into the lore and world of the forgotten realms.
Ed Greenwood, the legend himself! Special guest indeed! what a delight to hear from the founder of the Realms, I could hear him talk about the lore for hours. You’ve outdone yourself once again Wolf, thank you so much for the BG3 content!! Late august/September can’t come soon enough!! 🎉
Huge flex, Wolf! What better guest than the man who created this world! Thanks so much for all the hard work to give us BG3 fans such fantastic content!
Awesome to see Wolf and Ed Greenwood in the same video. So glad to see it happen. Two of the best people at discussing lore, Ed from having created a lot of it and Wolf for his earnest enthusiasm and just the right mixture of enthusiasm and groundedness

@@WolfheartFPS that really was a great video you did :) and i added greenwood to my abbos :) have been playing dnd for.. like over 30 years now, always happy times :)
One thing I want to point out is the Outer City did not always exist, there was no Outer City district outside Baldur's Gate in the first and second game's time period, Larian's map is the present day map, 100 years after the first two games (and their expansions), and though the Flaming Fist technically has rule over the Outer City, they do NOTHING. They don't consider the citizens of the Outer City as true citizens of Baldur's Gate, they let criminals, including The Guild have their way with them. This lore detail is fodder for my BG3 character, a male human Fighter with the Folk Hero background who lived in Baldur's Gate, he used to be a vigilante called "The Hawk of Baldur's Gate" or "The Hawk" because he wore a hawk mask to hide his identity, and usually attacked criminals from rooftops with his shortbow.

@@WolfheartFPS OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am INDEED having the best day! Thanks for this, Wolf! You rock!! And Thank you Ed Greenwood as well, woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ed's explanation on why Baldur's Gate is such a good setting for a computer game is SO accurate. I got to Act 3 wondering how being stuck in a city was going to give me an awesome adventure, and boy did I feel silly after countless hours just on a few quests.
And thank you Leader Wolfheart!, you made these 2-3 years really good by keep giving us content through the years, it helped us a lot, not just in games :D
Thanks, Wolf. Epic! I didn't think I could get more excited to play this game, but I do with each video. I found Ed's channel a few weeks back, and was amazed; Congrats on getting him for our video! Thrilled he's still making content, and willing to share with us over here. Your content keeps getting better and better. THANK YOU. Wolfpack, best pack!
Appreciate it Wiz & THANK YOU for all the extra support you do. Lore videos tend to not make much $ so I REALLY do appreciate channel members / patrons, and you my friend have gone even above and beyond that.
LOVE IT!! Ed was a legend before other dnd legends were even born! The true OG and one of my heroes! If it weren't for his creative genius, none of this dnd hype would be possible. He is Gygax level of cool!
@WolfheartFPS yeah man. As a kid, I'd be preparing for my friends next session reading all I could about the Forgotten Realms trying my hardest to keep the campaign as close to written lore as possible while filling in holes (areas where not much was written about and creating my own little villages) with my campaign. There were moments of complete fantasy where one of my towns or npcs or my friends pcs would be actual lore... man, this takes me back!!!!!
@@keithnewsome7729That's amazing. I feel like you have earned the title " The Watcher of the Realms" as you have watched it develop and grow since before I was even a thought to my ma & pa!
Baldur's Gate reminds me to my city, Cádiz, situated at the south of Spain. Was the gate for all the ancient Mediterranean areas in Europe and the only one access by the sea. Was a wealthy city and an important commercial port since the Phoenician Era and the Roman Era. Has at least 4000 years of antiquity, and is isolated too because is a peninsula in itself: just one way to pass (walking or in a caravan) to the rest of the territory. It's still being that way... ¡even now! (just one road where the cars can pass, if we ignore the new bridge that was built not more than 5 years ago). It's very appealing to me, to be reflected in that city :P Have a good day everyone!
I knew it ! It's so awesome to be able to have lore of a universe directly from its creator. Thanks for everything Ed, the Realms will always be dear to my heart.
Awooooooooooooo Wolfheart n The Pack Congrats to Wolf for this awesome coop ! it's now official that Wolf and John his mindflayer sidekick will appear one day somewhere Larian Studio.... impressive !!
great guest! i don't play video games anymore, but had many many hours of fun with the first 2 baldur's gates games. great to hear from this great creator
The best way to capture BG would be to cut off trade routes. Starve them by cutting off access to goods. The toughest part of that would be cutting off the docks if you don't have a navy. In real life that is typically how castles were captured. Not the super awesome sieges you see in every movie. Those did happen but from what I've learned it was more often less castle combat and more attrition than anything else.
Wow, That was a huge guest spot! great to see Ed Greenwood on here and thanks for the primer on Baldur's Gate going into Ed's video. lol. FYI my character in Decent into Avernus was part of the Watch of Baldur's Gate. so I had to do a bit of a lore dive to learn what I should know as part of the watch.
You got Ed on the video!!!!! Wolf you are the man! So happy for you getting to this place you're in to participate in all this wonderful DND and BG3 stuff that you are. You're awesome man and you deserve all this!

Ed Grenwoods books we're some of my earliest introduction to Forgotten Realms and Fantasy in general. The Spellfire book was one of my favorites (translated to danish :-)) - I loaned them (the spellfire book was for some reason split into two books in the danish version) again and again in my school library - didn't even know anything about FR back then - I just loved the story.
As I'm currently doing a playthrough of BG1 and 2 in the run up to BG3 launch, these lore videos have been amazing. I find I'm understanding a lot of references I definitely would have missed otherwise. Keep up the good work!
