That time Kelemvor nearly broke the cycle by just being chill to everyone who showed up in his realm to the point that humans stopped caring about the other gods.
Lmao Kelemvor sounds like a super chill dude. Like a guidance councilor at a high school trying to help you figure out your future. "You like animals? That's pretty cool, champ. We can work with that."
Great video Wolf! Another important thing about resurrection in D&D and Forgotten Realms is most of that magic only works if the soul of the creature is willing to come back. Depending on which deity claimed their soul, they might be in their version of heaven and not so eager to leave to come back to the hardship of the material plane. So that is another reason it isn't as common for people to be resurrected in Forgotten Realms lore. I'm very excited to find out who the special guest will be.
Every episode is a real treat and I can't wait to see your special guest. In addition, the little soundtrack at the end is always very soothing with the crackling of the fire in the background.
Absolutely a great video of death lore in the FRs. My Way of the Long Death Monk follows Kelemvor and at one point in the campaign died and ended up just outside the gray city. She was eventually resurrected and although she never got to meet Kelemvor, she did talk to an avatar of Ao and was allowed to retain the memory of being on the Fugue plane. She would say that the best deaths are a natural death such as old age, after living a satisfying life. And to witness such a death is a great honor. Her least favorite deaths are of those that she, unfortunately, that she has slain.
One thing that attracted me to your videos is how you deliver the information. Just enough to inform, not too much to inundate with too much. Thanks for these, my guy, and most specifically the build videos.
The Sunday series is a great addition. It keeps my hype up for BG3. Glad to have this each week! Given the emphasis on the Dead 3 in the game so far, these explanations are very helpful.
Every Sunday is suddenly nicer because I know these videos are coming out. I know a lot about the lore of Dungeons and Dragons, but I always like to watch it. It brings peace to my life. Thank you Wolf.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of The Betrayer does some next level philosophizing on the idea of faith, the relationship between identity and existence, the purpose of divinity and sticks it all together. The Wall of The Faithless as well as Myrkul and Kelemvor play a huge part.
Thanks for another great video. Of all the many plot threads that have been teased in the game’s early access content, I’m especially looking forward to seeing what role devils and the Nine Hells play later in the story. The fact that a player can get their hands on soul coins strongly suggests that we will have some kind of infernal dealings later on!
Wolf, I've been playing D&D for a decade and still learn things from these videos. Great job! One topic I'd love to see you cover is Gith (the person), Vlaakith, and the pact with Tiamat that gave the Githyanki their dragons. I think with the possibility of going back to the hells, as well as Lae'zel and Karlach's character backstories, that this type of topic may come up in BG3. And I'd love to see what you uncover and tie into the limited window of game available already in Early Access
Im going to play a faithless wizard who fears death so much that he becomes a necromancer in order to eventually become a lich and grasp everlasting life to avoid the wall
Always a nice surprise to catch one of these when I sit down for lunch. I know a lot of this stuff from adjacently absorbing it in video games over the years, but a well presented lore video is always fun to watch so cheers for making this series!
Wolf, thanks for this great series on D&D lore! Its fascinating to hear about the history and characters I've read about in D&D books and run across while playing D&D games (both computer and in D&D groups). I look forward to the next video (and to your special guest).
What about an individual that does not believe that the entities that call themselves gods are actually gods? He does not deny their power and abilities and acknowledges and respects them for it, but does not venerate or believe they are actually gods, just very powerful entities. What happens to him when he dies?
Guess that’s up to Kelemvor to decide lol 5e actually seems to hint that your alignment alone could get you an afterlife in one of the outer planes. The lore can be a bit confusing
For anyone who wants a better understanding of death in Faerun - I strongly suggest playing "The mask of the betrayer" in Neverwinter Nights 2. Hands down one of the best stories in all of digital media. It shows exactly how terrifying the Wall of the Faithless would be.
Yea, was about to post the same comment. i Would love if Wolf would played it and review the game and how it gives alot of knowlage into the afterlife, Kelemvor, Wall of the Faithless and all that juicy content. I’m sure you are more versed on the subject matter than I am then! I do lots of research for my videos. I’ve read most of the Drizzt novels, and just started into the Elminster series.
With respect to Ed Greenwood, I have to correct him on one thing. As a Pantheist myself, I need to say what he is describing is Omnitheism - the belief that all religions have some truth in them and all deities are worthy of being worshiped and venerated in their own way and time. Pantheism, my personal path, is the belief that everyone and everything is made up of the same energy, and that this energy connects us all to each other. Everything is alive, everything is interconnected. And this connection can be used by us to deepen our understanding and "oneness" with each other. This energy is not a supernatural being, so not "deity," but "divinity." It is a divine energy, which makes us all part of the divine, and divine in our own right. This is a common and easy mix-up with these two terms. All respect and love for Ed.
Thank you for the video! And if you want to know a lot more about the gods of death and the Fuge plane, you can play Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, while waiting for BG3 release. P.S. And I think the Wall of Faithless should be destroyed. But that is discussion for the another day.
